Best garlic naan that I've ever had! Went today for lunch to Chutney's to check out the buffet before their full menu is available in the coming weeks and we had such a good lunch. They've done a great job decorating the space and the servers were so kind and happy to be there. Not everyone in the group is very familiar with Indian cuisine, so having a buffet meant getting to try a little of everything to discover new favorites. Surprisingly, the zucchini dish and okra dish were some of the top favorites. Loved the butter chicken as well! But seriously - it's worth going just for the garlic naan. The food had various options in veg and non veg. The ambiance is really nice and well maintained. The location is really convenient in the Murfreesboro downtown with ample of parking spots. The food really needs an improvement. Hopefully the management will give a closer look on it. read more

It is great to have a solid Indian restaurant just a few blocks from downtown. Chutneys has moved into a former pizza place in a c. 1990 shopping center. The owners transformed the interior to a welcoming, comfortable spot. Service is spot on and attentive too. As the owners opened, they have leaned on a buffet which is nicely arranged and full of many tasty items. The chicken tandoor, the butter chicken, and spinach with cheese come recommended. Garlic naan is excellent. I look forward to the full dinner menu and more lunch choices coming this month. Very promising start. read more

Quite an enjoyable experience, Stopped in for lunch at 11 on a Sunday. The service was excellent and the food delicious. Good taste and consistency and when there was heat it wasn't there to hurt - just to provoke the taste buds a bit. We came here after buffet hours because we just wanted some comfort food to order and this was the only halal Indian restaurant we could find nearby. We weren't looking for buffets or anything. The service was amazing and the waiters and workers were very nice and sweet and that is the only reason I'm giving this place a 2 star. The food should not be considered south Asian food because it does not taste even the slightest bit authentic or good in general. We ordered tandoori chicken, chicken biryani, and beef kebab. The tandoori chicken was dry and tasted so old (tandoori chicken is usually dry but this was on another level). The chicken biryani was the worst, this was not biryani, this was seasoned rice with some random plain chicken curry on top (I don't even think they used any sort of biryani masala). The beef kebab was actually decent but portion size was super small. Honestly speaking, we came here around 4:30-5ish when they open later in the day, the food tasted like they used whatever was left over from the buffet and just reheated it and plated it and that may have truly been the case. I absolutely love Indian food. I've tried it in many different cities across the US. Based on the reviews, I was so exited to try another buffet in town. My husband and I were greeted and seated. Ambiance is nice. Tables were clean. We went up to the buffet and the first thing I noticed was that none of the food was labeled. I tried a few things that looked familiar...but I was disappointed in the flavors. I'm glad to have another family-owned business in town and I'm so glad so many people like it. We decided to stop into Chutney's on a whim, based on some good reviews we had read. Our family really enjoys Indian food, so we were looking forward to trying a new restaurant. It's currently a buffet, with al a carte coming in the next few weeks. We enjoyed the buffet, as it allowed us to try many different dishes. Rice and naan were brought to the table and they were very generous! Simply the best naan I have ever eaten. It was pillowy soft, with a perfectly crisp bottom, and the perfect touch of garlic. The rice was so flavorful that it could be eaten on its own, The owner is delightful. He was our server, and he was extremely friendly and attentive. When we complimented the rice, he explained the spice mix that made it so good, and then brought out some of the whole spices for us to see and taste. Whenever I am traveling for work I try to seek out something different and Chutneys seemed to fit that well. However, when the website didn't (and still doesn't work), I should have seen that a a sign. Based on the food photos I wanted to give it a go. Did not realize that the buffet was the only option. As it was later in the evening (7pm), I was a little disappointed with the freshness of some of the dishes. The oils had settled a bit, but after a quick stir they were a little more appealing. While the food was enjoyable it just did not leave me with a great experience. The Naan bread was by far the show of the meal. Lastly, the place is well decorated and seems very clean, the final bill was also very reasonable. While I had hoped for more from my dining experience, if you are hungry for Indian food this place gets the job done. read more

First impressions are always difficult. That being said, I wanted to try this place out. We came about an hour before closing time. I would've thought we get our food and finish before closing. Sadly it was not my experience. We ordered and it took a while for our food. We ordered our app and drinks. The drinks came out without any ice. That wasn't a good sign. Because it's summer time and it was still hot outside. We ordered and the waitress informed us that they ran out of a couple of popular items. I ended up ordering an alternative dish. By the time we got our entrees, there would only be 20 minutes until they "closed". That and they ran out of rice. It's customary for Indian/Pakistani cruisine to be accompanied with rice. Long story short, I asked for the food to be taken to go. I had rice at home. Because they didn't give us rice, I asked for a discount. They gave it to us. We ended eating it at home. My husband and I tried Chutneys for the first time today and it did not disappoint! First off the ambiance of the restaurant is so pretty, clean, and homey. We went during lunch time which is when their buffet is. There was so many options for vegetarians and carnivores. We have tried several different Indian food places and this one is the best! Their naan is phenomenal and a perfect combination of soft and crispy. We met the owner who is just an amazing person and so genuine. The recipes are from his late mother. Such a gorgeous interior. Everything is authentic and beautiful. The aroma when you walk in is like a warm hug and the owner welcomes you himself and tells you about his passion. Decided to try this Indian fusion restaurant for lunch. They offer a lunch buffet. The food was delicious. All of the dishes tasted like someone's grandparent cooked each one. The flavors were distinct and the food quality was top notch. They do not use as much heavy cream in their curries and sauces so overall the food feels lighter and doesn't leave you as heavy as other places I've tried. The naan was a little denser than others I've had which really supported the 'made from scratch' feel that I got from this food. You can ask for no spice or heavy spice so don't think that this place will just be hot spicy food, it's not, unless you want it to be. The owner was waiting on folks and was really friendly and wants to make sure everyone is satisfied. Lastly, the ambience is really nice and warm. Some places feel almost sterile and fast food like, Chutneys has more of a comfortable feel that would be excellent for a romantic evening dinner or casual meal with business colleagues or a comfortable family dinner. The owner has installed a place near the back that looks like a comfortable coffee lounge or book store, without the books. Just had the best dining experience at Chutneys. My husband and I enjoyed the buffet which offered a salad bar, 3 different chicken dishes (one was butter chicken, unsure of the other 2 as they were not labeled), tandoori chicken and about 8 different vegetable/vegetarian dishes. Everything was well spiced and flavorful. The anise seasoned rice was the best Indian rice I've ever had! The garlic naan was also very delicious and obviously made in-house.
