Stylish , upper scale restaurant. Nothing here will blow your socks off but the prices might. My haddock empanada lacked flavour and was oily. No bueno. I will say the chips and guac were good but for $19?? the street corn was flavourful. . Overall , the GTA has a poor selection of Mexican options but Chuuk does its best to serve a more authentic option with very little competition. We went recently this Friday to Chuuk for dinner They are located near the Pickering Beaches on Liverpool Rd We got reservations for the evening and I would highly recommend doing so given that they were very busy for the night Inside the restaurant it has a very upscale but casual vibe We dined indoors for our meal but they do have a small patio seating area We had two starters to share We had the guacamole which came with chips and the cassava fries that came with a mildly spicy chipotle sauce Both were very good and especially liked the cassava fries as it was my first time trying deep fried cassava For our mains I had the sikil pac salad which was a beet salad that came with both red and white beets It was good ...I liked how they cooked the beets and the charred lettuce was a nice touch.....the sikil pac sauce had a grainy texture to it....wasn't a fan of it My husband had the achiote chicken and he loved it and I tried some pieces of his chicken and the achiote rice it came with along with the plantains It was really tasty and I think I would likely order that the next time I go..... Before I get into the negatives, I want to give Chuuk its flowers. Chuuk is easily one of the most upscale and stylish restaurants in the Durham region. It would feel at home on any street in downtown Toronto. Unfortunately, the food and service don't live up to the ambiance. I arrived late in the evening, but the staff failed to mention that the kitchen was nearing last call. In fact, they initially assured us we could order more dishes later, only to cut us off later. As for the food, it's some of the weakest Mexican cuisine I've had. Not only was it underwhelming, but the cost made it feel downright insulting. The Tuna Crudo was bland. I'm really happy that I went to Chuuk. I've been there before in the past but haven't been since I started writing reviews for Yelp! only due to time constraints and not being in the area. However last night I had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant on a Tuesday night and it was a packed house! Service was excellent, going above and beyond to welcome me at the door, take care of me throughout the evening and our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the entire menu. They were happy all night, a pleasure to interact with and be around. The food was delicious, I had an assortment of Tacos including the Baja fish tacos and Birria tacos which I recommend. They were delicious, well portioned for the price and packed full of flavour. I really enjoyed the Baja fish overall, they were fresh, seasoned, tasty. For the main course I had the Pescado Maui Maui. It was savoury, and it lit up my mouth with each bite. Rounding out the meal was the dessert, which were churros and Tres Leches cupcake. I found the cupcake to be better overall but both were sweet and scrumptious. The churros were a bit stiff and not as doughy as I thought but they still delivered. I'm glad I've been back to Chuuk and I'm glad I'll be going back to check out their patio during the warmer months. read more

Really enjoyed this spot which is kind of tucked away in the middle of a residential neighbourhood! Beautiful ambience, the staff are very friendly and offered good suggestions for the food and beverages. We ended up getting the guacamole, corn and cassava fries for apps and then I ordered the octopus for my main. Oh my goodness. This is literally the best octopus I think I've ever had in Toronto. It was perfectly cooked, great textured not too chewy and the sauce that came with it was just amazing. I really enjoyed my dish. They also have great options for cocktails- the la Mora was delicious!! I've also had the pink jaguar before which was also very good. my go to restaurant for a fancy dinner in Pickering. it's by the water. I always get the beef tacos.

We visited Chuuk Wednesday evening around 7 pm. Lots of parking available in the lot. The interior is really nice and aesthetic. It was a weekday and we made a reservation so there wasn't any wait time. Not a super loud restaurant which I liked. There is seating available inside and outside. The server was very friendly and was really attentive. What we ordered: -Vegan tacos - okay - $21 (for 3) -Achiote Chicken - liked this a lot - $36 -Churros (dulce de leche, chocolate sauce) - not a fan of the chocolate sauce. - $12 -Pink Jaguar (tequila, cointreau, prickly pear, lime, hibiscus salt (2oz)) - $15 - loved this I enjoyed my experience at this restuarant. It was nice and clean inside the restuarant and in the washrooms. The food overall was solid. I haven't been to Chúuk for a long time and I had forgotten what I was missing. Besides their delicious Mexican cuisine, they have great cocktails, fantastic premium choices from their bar, a sophisticated ambiance, and great service! My friend and I started with their Cassava Fries, served with a chipotle mayo. It was a good start. Our cocktails arrived shortly after - Caribbean Punch (secret rum blend, pineapple-punch, nutmeg) for me and Thought Bubble (gin, soursop, prosecco cordial, avocado leaf, lime) for her. Both drinks were really good and it was our first time having Soursop Rum Liqueur. I never even knew this existed! For our meal, we had their Baja Fish Tacos and Campchano Tacos. I'm not generally excited by Mexican cuisine, but I very much enjoyed our dinner at Chuuk. All of the food was delicious and the service was welcoming and prompt. We asked our waitress for recos and these didn't disappoint. Started with the street corn and cassava fries as appetizers, followed by fish, pulled pork and braised beef tacos. Dessert was churros with ice cream. We liked the beef the most, all of the tacos were very good, though. My wife enjoyed her banana-infused old fashioned. We went for a date night but asked if they have a kids menu, our waitress replied that they offer a number of dishes for kids, just don't show them on the menu. read more

Pickering doesn't have many trendy places to go to but this one usually tops the list. However, it was such a huge huge huge huge huge disappointment. For a taco spot, their tacos weren't good and instead come here for the cocktails. They have great drinks here which is why it gets an extra star. But the tacos really lacked in flavour and taste. Additionally, what really irked me about service was after putting in our order the server would come by to our table and drop off a street corn dip that we didn't order but made it seem like it was on the house. And next thing you know it was on our bill. It's a little deceptive and I continue to read reviews that this is just what they do. I'm not too sure about those kinds of business practices. Love the tropical wall paper in the side room and wooden tables. We got the baja fish tacos and Birria tacos. I would have to say I have had better tacos for a cheaper price. The flavour was bland and was only okay. But the real winning dish of the night would have to be the Achiote chicken, the chicken was so tasty and tender. Perfectly cooked that it's still juicy. Really good! We went for lunch and had the empanada entree that is only available on the lunch menu. There are 2 large empanadas, I couldn't finish! The only negative about the entree is the green sauce becomes too much after a while, I'd prefer it served on the side or drizzled over as opposed to pooled on the bottom. We also had the guacamole and chips to start, the guacamole was delicious! The serving size was very large. I'd like to try dinner and cocktails here some time! This was our first in-person dining since lockdown. Social distancing is maintained very well, with lots of space in between tables as well as barriers. All the staff are masked and following protocol. This was our first time to this place and all I can say is it is beautiful and bright. Their decor is very nice. Food: We ordered the cassava fries (must order), guac and chips and sweet potato tacos. The cassava fries are a must have! They were the hit of the meal! The guac was ok- nothing memorable. The sweet potato taco were good, but the portion size was very small compared to the other tacos. These tacos were pre rolled and stuffed with sweet potato, so not the tacos you would be expecting. (We happened to see a nearby table get another type of taco and the portions were much more). For dessert, we had the tres leches cake and it was delicious! We gave this place a try during the final winter blast as we had early dinner while it still was relatively not busy. Our server was friendly and helpful and the food came out in a timely manner as well. Here was what we ordered: Apps: Street Corn- $13 & Queso Fundido- $18 - the street corn were corn niblets with some sprinkled goat cheese of sort and herbs as well. It serves well as a complementary for taco topping and such, but the price is a bit much for a small plate of corn. - the queso fundido is basically melted cheese with minced meat inside and you can 3x pieces of tortilla you can place your fundido & corn on it. Although the dishes are separate, but you can pair it all together. Tacos: 3x Fish Tacos- $24 & 3x Birria Tacos- $24 - You can pick two or three tacos and the price is basically $8 per tacos. Hard to say which is best, but they're both decent options. Main: Pulpo- $40 - Comes with 1x decent size souvide grilled octopus with arugula salad and puree of sort tomato consomme of sort. This was probably the best out of everything we've ordered, although a bit steep on pricing, but the quality and taste was very good! Dessert: Churros- $8.5 - When you go to a Mexican place, you have to give this a try, and to our surprise, this one wasn't that good. It tasted doughy like slight undercooked and comes with cameral sauce which didn't help much. Overall this place is nice and has some good options of food here. read more

My go-to spot in the area, this is a real gem in Pickering. I always come for the Birrira Tacos but everything from the apps, desserts, and mains was delicious! Their drinks are amazing, I personally love the Pink Jaguar. The atmosphere makes it the best place for a chill dinner night out, right by the waterfront too. Amazing! Definitely a hidden gem! When first walking in, you are greeted with a beautiful atmosphere; very clean and modern. We ordered the guacamole and street corn as an appetizer. Guac was amazing and came with a very large portion. The street corn was delicious and had a great crunch. I ordered the "Chúuk Margarita" and it was delicious! Average margarita in terms of ingredients though they used freshly squeezed citrus which added a delicious fresh taste to the drink. Our mains were three of each taco: Birria, baja fish, & pollo pibil. All were extremely delicious with generous toppings and portions. All the flavours completely complemented each other and the tortillas were absolutely delicious! Definitely more authentic Mexican food, if you are expecting watered down Mexican cuisine that is not the case. Side note: our waiter was absolutely wonderful and very very sweet! read more

We went there for brunch and ordered a pitcher of Pink Jaguar, the guacamole and chips, and the Queso Asado grilled cheese sandwich with fries. I absolutely loved the drink - they have in-house made pink salt that's infused with hibiscus flower, I think they said, for the rim of the Pink Jaguar. The guacamole, and sandwich were SO good. The only thing I thought could be improved was the fries - they were good, but not great. I'd probably get the vegetables for my side next time. when i say this is the freshest food i have ever had, i mean it. the food tastes whole and clean , not processed. the service is lovely, my server Tyerra was so kind to my mom and i, along with my support dog. the host who sat us greeted us so warmly and was also kind to my puppy. they even brought out some water to him! the food came out super fast, i was shocked with how soon it was set on the table after ordering. i had the 2 birria tacos and my mom had the 2 empanada's. the tacos were on the smaller side so if you're hungry i'd suggest the 3 instead of 2, but we're somehow filling and again just so fresh and yummy. tried a bite of the empanada's, they were so flavourful! and the presentation was amazing. the patio was very nice and quiet for us to sit on, the vibe and food is very authentic! i also had the pink jaguar margarita, with the hibiscus salted rim, which was ever so refreshing. for dessert i had the churros with the dulce de leche, and my mom had the flan. the flan was smooth and delicious with a kick of spice and fresh strawberries, while the churros were perfectly golden brown, and the sauce was perfectly sweet. just enough sweetness after our savoury entrees. I will 100% be coming back for more of the amazing food, top tier service and lovely atmosphere, and i'll be telling my friends and family how enjoyable my experience was as well! Drinks were delicious and we ordered a handful of small plates to try out and we'll definitely be back. Do yourself a favour ... order the guacamole + don't skip the ceviche. A trendy Mexican restaurant in Pickering?! Thanks for Chris C's recommendations to give Chuuk a try. Cocktails anyone?! A real crafted cocktail offering is almost impressive outside the Downtown core. We tried Maya Mule($11) and Old Fashioned ($12) both with a Mexican twist! Guacamole ($12) The house made nachos was tasty. The guacamole itself lacked that kick and small in portion. Empanada ($6) and Tsiik Tacos ($14) chilled beef salad were so so. Both tasted flat but adding the house made hot sauces did add more flavours to both. The food at Chuuk did not wow me but I did enjoy their cocktails. I have to say, living in the suburbs we don't have as many unique dining options as those available downtown in Toronto. I was happy to see an "authentic" Mexican Resto opening in Pickering. Each order of tacos comes with 3 palm sized tacos for $20+. I took a friend here for her birthday. The inside has a great vibe. It's very chic and modern. You definitely don't feel like you're right off of Liverpool road. We ordered the Mexican corn, guacamole and chips, fish tacos and chicken tacos. We got a pitcher of hibiscus and prickly pear sangria as well (or whatever the pink drink is called). The corn was amazing. Well spiced and the sauce was perfect. The guacamole wasn't anything special, I could have smashed the avocados myself and put them in a mortal and pestle for presentation. The saving grace is that dish was what I assume is house fried chips. The tacos were good! But as mentioned they were super small but well dressed. We also got the brownie for dessert. We let our server know it was my friends birthday (they didn't offer to bring out anything complimentary). It was possibly the most disappointing thing way to end her birthday dinner. It was like an over cooked boxed brownie mix. Between the 3 of us we didn't even finish it. I've been waiting to try Chuuk since it opened, and I'm beyond disappointed. First off, I placed my order at 7:25pm, the server said it would take 20 minutes (by phone) and I got there at 7:35 and waiting till 8pm before getting my food. If the food was delicious, you usually forget how long you waited. Mediocre Mexican food, and that's being generous. Mexican Street Corn: Chewy corn and COLD! Topped with tons of cheese. This is the first time I have Mexican street corn that's almost ice cold. Not a fan. Birria Tacos: Birria Tacos have hit the net and I was so excited to try it. Now my food was kinda cold when I got it but these tacos... what an insult. Besides them being cold, it tasted so so so plain. No sauce to dip them in and the tortilla was chewy and had a weird taste. Deluce de Lece cupcakes: WTF. Obviously not fresh, because it tasted like it came out of the icebox. This was the worst item.
