San Diego Transplants Approved: We Finally Found Our Taste of Home! If you are from the West Coast--specifically San Diego--you know the struggle of moving to Upstate New York and trying to find real Mexican food. We have been searching high and low for that authentic taste of home since we moved here, often leaving disappointed. The search is officially over. We found it at Chuy's. This isn't "Mexican-inspired" or watered-down Tex-Mex; this is the legitimate street food we grew up on. The tortillas were warm and fresh, the Al Pastor had that perfect marinade, the carne asada had a perfect char on it, and the salsa had the genuine kick and flavor depth we've been missing desperately. Let me talk about the Chipotle salsa, 100% off the chain! The Hospitality What truly took this experience from great to unforgettable was meeting the owner, Jesus (aka Chuy). He is the definition of hospitality. He took the time to chat with us, welcomed us to the city, and made us feel like we were regulars even though it was our second time in. You can tell he pours his heart into this place, and it shows in every single bite. Highlights for SoCal Natives: The Carne Asada: Proper seasoning and char. The Vibes: Unpretentious, friendly, and focused on the food. The Salsas: Legit Salas from scratch, from mild to heated specialities! Thank you, Chuy, for bringing a slice of the West Coast to Rochester. We will be back, and we're bringing friends. If you want the real deal, this is the only place to go.

This place serves some of the best Mexican food I've ever had on the East Coast. The staff goes above and beyond--friendly, attentive, and quick to help. The beans and rice alone are worth the trip; they're packed with flavor and honestly unforgettable. There's plenty of seating, and the inside has the relaxed, colorful feel of a coastal taqueria, which makes it just as enjoyable to sit down and stay awhile as it is to grab a quick bite. Don't miss this spot--it's the kind of place you'll want to come back to again and again.

Service, food, location. Everything went well. I came for a second time for the Torta. Oh boy, what a sandwich ", Al Pastor'. The toasted bread, the savory filling of the pork & pineapple, fries. The chips & salsa at the beginning are addictive. The Aguas fresca of Hibiscus is so refreshing. Every time I go, I try a new dish.

The owner was there and checking in on everyone. His mother was there too, in and out of the kitchen. I always appreciate a place with house sauces that you can serve yourself. Very clean, and bright setting. Good food, the burrito with plantain inside was my favorite.

Fresh, Flavorful, and Unexpectedly Fantastic! I was looking for a quick bite and stumbled upon Chuy's Taquería (pronounced "Chewy's," in case you're wondering)--glad I did! With solid reviews and a cozy location in Rochester, I figured I'd give it a try, and it did not disappoint. I started off with their chips, salsa, and guacamole. The guac was very fresh, like they had just mashed it up seconds ago--full of flavor, great texture, and perfectly seasoned. The salsa had a nice little kick that kept things interesting. For my main, I ordered the veggie burrito--a good-sized wrap packed with mixed veggies, cheese, white rice, and black beans. There was a sauce inside I hadn't tasted before--super flavorful and made the whole thing come alive. Alongside that, they brought out four different condiment sauces--two of them were fiery (a bit too hot for me), but the chipotle sauce was a standout. The interior was clean and comfortable (photos below). Everything had that fresh-made vibe--no shortcuts here. I didn't try the tacos this time, but they looked amazing at nearby tables. Definitely worth a return trip. If you're craving Mexican food that tastes homemade but packs restaurant-quality presentation and flavor, Chuy's is the spot.

If you want high enthusiasm and customer service, this is the place to be. Chuy (if that is the boss's name) makes you feel like you're the long lost kindred to his family and he's here to welcome you home. Serious. if you need a friend and a place to belong com there. Booming voice, giving you complimentary dessert, and passionate, come here. It's a clean joint that fuses clean cafeteria but with excellent hospitality. This is my first Mexican food here in Rochester as I have been wary of most places that wind up being Mex- Tex (don't love the peppers and onions), or American Mexican (too much lettuce and weak sauce). I would say, this place is the real deal. Fantastic flavor, amazing presentation- you really feel like you went to Mexico here. I highly recommend the Shrimp taco, the verde Chile. Fantastic clean bold flavors that make you want to come back tomorrow once your full belly is full. The chef on the house gave our party this melted cheese thing. Very nice of him but a little too heavy/greasy for us to be eating a whole place of gooey cheese. Support chuy's and swing on by. I don't think you'd be disappointed. I am proud that an ethnic food is thriving and proud of their heritage without americanization.

Pretty good! Lots of parking and was not busy at all on Tuesday night. They serve various of sauces on the side and gave complimentary chips and salsa. I had the Al pastor torta which had really great flavor and awesome bread but the meat portion was on the small side. My friends enjoyed their food as well. Will come back for the birria quesadilla!

Absolutely fantastic food! I stopped by Chuy's Taqueria and was blown away. The food was genuinely delicious, and the carnitas were seriously some of the best I have ever had--tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The whole meal was excellent. I will definitely be back soon. Highly recommend!

You step into Chuy's and it is immediately hard to not dance to their music! They create the perfect vibe for the service and the food. The people work as a team and are extremely kind and patient. They have some amazing Birria!! Be sure to also try their plantains. I was thrilled to see they have almost every Jaritos flavor stocked up along with their delicious Horchata. Remember to go easy on their chips and salsa so that you have space for your entrée. This place is right down the street from me and I am sure I will be spending a lot of my salary here.

Ok this spot finally opened up so I swung by to pick up some lunch for us. It's bigger inside than I expected and you can eat in, the color scheme is hyper lime green and lots of streamers about. Staff is nice but a slight disconnect. Also the Apple Pay was weird. I usually have to use my face to scan it and where it was it was underneath/side of the POS system. So I had to get out a card first world problems but sometimes getting out a card is a mess. Than I asked for my order was TO GO. Half of the order came for inside.. they fixed that. Whatever I ordered some Chicken, Beef and Pork tacos, they were good but needed a bit more of flavor I used my consommé from the Birra Quesadilla to give my beef taco more flavor. The lime added a nice fresh hit of acid and I liked that in the to go box the fresh radish and the grilled onions. The other tacos were good as well but needed a punch of something I tried one of the salsa's that came with and it helped. Also with my to go order they put chips in the bag a nice touch. That birra quesadilla was really tasty and dunking it into the consommé just yum. I would come back and try other things, everything is fresh and tasty but like I said needs a bit more umami. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant. Give it a whirl.

First, there is a large parking lot for off street parking. It's bigger than it looks on the outside. There are several tables if you want to dine-in. I had looked at the menu earlier and was planning on getting lettuce wrapped tacos but that is no longer an option. While they do have assorted bowls on the menu, a low carb option or the option to make your own bowl would be nice. The tacos were ok. The sausage was not something I'd get again but that's my personal taste. Next time, I'll ask for sour cream on the side too. The birria quesadilla was really good and I'd get that again (and it's def not low carb but I digress). I tried using Apple Pay which wasn't working for them for some reason and that was slightly annoying. As I don't always carry my wallet these days. Def a nice addition to the neighborhood overall.

The service and the tacos were excellent. I've already been back twice. I hope having the Taco Bell across the street doesn't sap their business.
