Casual setting with friendly service. We stopped by Chuy's Taqueria after visiting highland park. We were dressed casually and this was the perfect setting for us. Small fast/casual. You order at the counter, but someone brings it out to you and cleans up the table. Food was warm, fresh and delicious. My husband loved their tamarin drink which he absolutely loved. Considering I am from San Diego, Chuy's Taqueria had high standards to meet. The service was excellent and take out orders were neatly packed. However, sauces are not automatically included, so be sure to ask for them on the side. Side dishes are often an afterthought at many restaurants, but Chuy's offered several tasty options. *Tacos de Asada y Maduro: featured high quality steak with fried plantains. The plate included three tacos, Mexican beans, and rice. While the meat had a good char, it was slightly dry. Despite the menu listing chipotle crema, the sauce was not included on any of my visits. Its spice and creaminess would have tied the dish together. The plantains were perfectly golden brown and sweet. The beans and rice were both flavorful, though I wished the beans had a more consistent texture, as they varied between watery and refried. *Horchata: top tier cinnamon rice beverage that was nicely sweetened and well spiced. *Flan: was dense and creamy with a sweet, rich caramel sauce. The custard had a beautiful body and was a must order. I have never had a bad meal here, though consistent inclusion of sauces would easily push this spot into five star territory. Fresh, Flavorful, and Unexpectedly Fantastic! I was looking for a quick bite and stumbled upon Chuy's Taquería (pronounced "Chewy's," in case you're wondering)--glad I did! With solid reviews and a cozy location in Rochester, I figured I'd give it a try, and it did not disappoint. I started off with their chips, salsa, and guacamole. The guac was very fresh, like they had just mashed it up seconds ago--full of flavor, great texture, and perfectly seasoned. The salsa had a nice little kick that kept things interesting. For my main, I ordered the veggie burrito--a good-sized wrap packed with mixed veggies, cheese, white rice, and black beans. There was a sauce inside I hadn't tasted before--super flavorful and made the whole thing come alive. Alongside that, they brought out four different condiment sauces--two of them were fiery (a bit too hot for me), but the chipotle sauce was a standout. The interior was clean and comfortable (photos below). Everything had that fresh-made vibe--no shortcuts here. I didn't try the tacos this time, but they looked amazing at nearby tables. I come from the central coast in California and grew up with migrant workers from Mexico. It's been hard finding a place that had authentic Mexican food since moving to Rochester but this place can not be more authentic. First off, the food at Chuy's is incredible. If you haven't been - get down there and try it. But this review is more about the service. On Wednesday, April 22 I was in Henrietta for an appt and decided to place an order at Chuy's to pick up on my way home. I paid and received my email confirmation. My mouth was already watering... I arrived to the restaurant early, hoping it would be ready. They were closed. A sign hung on their door stating they were "Closed Wednesdays and Sundays until further notice". Nothing on their site indicated this and my order went through with no issue. I was a bit upset. Not only for the inconvenience but also because I was hungry and wanted my burrito! So the next day, I had to be back in Henrietta anyway so I stopped in and asked about the order. They immediately apologized profusely - apparently there was a glitch that allowed several orders to go through. They assured me that I would be refunded. I asked if it would be possible to just give me my order instead of a refund (I was still dreaming of that burrito). They said of course and even offered me a free drink which was not expected (I was happy to pay but they insisted). The burrito came out in less than five minutes and they said they would still refund me - even though I assured them it was not necessary. I wasn't even mad when I came in; I didn't make any scene or demands. I just wanted to ask about my order assuming it was an accident, and give them a chance to see what they could do. They went above and beyond anything I would have expected. They more than made up for any minor inconvenience it caused. Even if they didn't refund me, I would have still felt the same way in how I was treated. So yes, the food is incredible, but it is matched with a masterclass in customer service which feels increasingly rare these days. You step into Chuy's and it is immediately hard to not dance to their music! They create the perfect vibe for the service and the food. The people work as a team and are extremely kind and patient. They have some amazing Birria!! Be sure to also try their plantains. I was thrilled to see they have almost every Jaritos flavor stocked up along with their delicious Horchata. Ok this spot finally opened up so I swung by to pick up some lunch for us. It's bigger inside than I expected and you can eat in, the color scheme is hyper lime green and lots of streamers about. Staff is nice but a slight disconnect. Also the Apple Pay was weird. I usually have to use my face to scan it and where it was it was underneath/side of the POS system. So I had to get out a card first world problems but sometimes getting out a card is a mess. Than I asked for my order was TO GO. Half of the order came for inside.. they fixed that. Whatever I ordered some Chicken, Beef and Pork tacos, they were good but needed a bit more of flavor I used my consommé from the Birra Quesadilla to give my beef taco more flavor. The lime added a nice fresh hit of acid and I liked that in the to go box the fresh radish and the grilled onions. The other tacos were good as well but needed a punch of something I tried one of the salsa's that came with and it helped. Also with my to go order they put chips in the bag a nice touch. That birra quesadilla was really tasty and dunking it into the consommé just yum. I would come back and try other things, everything is fresh and tasty but like I said needs a bit more umami. First, there is a large parking lot for off street parking. It's bigger than it looks on the outside. There are several tables if you want to dine-in. I had looked at the menu earlier and was planning on getting lettuce wrapped tacos but that is no longer an option. While they do have assorted bowls on the menu, a low carb option or the option to make your own bowl would be nice. The tacos were ok. The sausage was not something I'd get again but that's my personal taste. Next time, I'll ask for sour cream on the side too. The birria quesadilla was really good and I'd get that again (and it's def not low carb but I digress). I tried using Apple Pay which wasn't working for them for some reason and that was slightly annoying. As I don't always carry my wallet these days. Finally found a Mexican spot in Rochester that has some great food. Salsas are amazing, tacos looked amazing, I ordered the chilaquiles which were very tasty, well- seasoned. My only complaint is the excess amount of cheese on the chilaquiles, but I'm excited to come back here and try more things on the menu. read more

We finally got to Chuy's on a Thursday evening, after wanting to go for ages. The first thing I noticed is how clean the front of house looked, from the spotless tables to the organized sauces and salsas neatly organized in a fridge. The service was friendly, efficient and informative. Obviously, we started with chips, salsa and guac. The chips themselves could have been better (a few may have been starting to get stale), but generally they were above average, strong enough to take heaping scoops and not worry about snapping in half. The salsa roja simmered with smoky flavor and a lingering heat, while the bright, creamy guacamole was nearly the best I've had locally. The camarones with spicy Diabla sauce features a bounty of plump and tender shrimp, with a fiery and rich sauce. A good portion of rice (good) and beans (excellent) accompanies the dish and might give you some needed relief if you make the mistake of putting too much habanero sauce on top of the already spicy dish. There is also a garlic sauce option, which I look forward to trying. We also ordered a pair of tacos; the Al Pastor had just the right amount of citrus sweetness to balance the smoky pork. The pork maw (stomach lining) taco is certainly an acquired taste, and while it wasn't our favorite flavor profile, it was cooked tender and seemed to taste like it should. I appreciated the sweet wedges of grilled onions accompanying the tacos, as well as the classic radishes. Finally, the Torta with carnitas. I could eat this forever - and not just because the sandwich is huge! The bread itself is soft, but held up ruggedly despite the mixture of juicy pork, guac, cheese and onion. We've all had a torta fall apart on us, it's a sad moment that Chuy's avoids by choosing the perfect bread to handle a tough job. Everything melds together into bite after bite of savory, tender goodness. Interestingly, it's served with a side of fries - which were good but didn't stand out amongst the rest of the meal. First visit to this nice little restaurant. Arrived at about noon and waited in a short line to place order. Woman taking orders was very nice and helpful. Typical Mexican fare offered, but you have to order and pay for chips and salsa which we did with a side of guacamole. Guac was very good but chips were out of a bag and salsa was non descriptive and very smooth. My son's burrito the AM PM was very good with a choice of meats, rice, beans, cheese, scrambled eggs, french fries, and his choice of steak. Think it weighed 2 pounds! I got the quesadilla with carnitas and lots of cheese, but it was dripping with grease. Really not appetizing. Came with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes with too much cilantro and not enough sour cream. You get a number when you order and an older woman delivers your food then comes to clean up when you're done. I assume it's family run. I had a Starry and my son had Horchata which was excellent!
