We decided to try a new place and i saw a pic of the Chili Relleno online and had to try it. The place is medium sized. The server was very helpful and attentive. The food was hot when it arrived and it did not disappoint. The chili was prepared differently from other places in town. The chili was un battered and placed on black beans in a bowl. Stuffed with cheese and topped with sauce. It was great. My partner got the carnitas and they came with grilled cheese and onions. They were pretty good too. Highly recommend trying Mecate. The chips & salsa, homemade hot sauce, and chili relleno entree were good! The Diet Pepsi was flat. I switched to Iced Tea and was given warm tea and never got a refill. The service overall was pretty bad and the tip was automatically added to our bill. We were a large group and didn't call ahead but there was no one else there and they still couldn't handle us. A small local chain with mole? That's good? I couldn't believe the recommendation I was getting but my companion insisted and off we went. I shouldn't have doubted. Steer clear of ordering anything that looks designed for meeting expectations of the hard shell taco set and you'll wind up with something delicious. I'd recommend the tamal - it was just enough uplift after what has felt like a series of disappointments in local dining. Carlos explained the contents of each dish, and even provided suggestions of dishes containing main ingredients we asked for. Our appetizer-"Nachos Locos", was piping hot and made to order....with an exceptionally large serving size, more than adequate for a party of 4+. I ordered a seafood burrito and a soft shell chicken taco. Sadly I was unable to even try the Seafood Burrito, as I had filled up on nachos and my soft shell taco. My boyfriend ordered Camarón Veracruzano (grilled shrimp cooked with a medley of fresh vegetables w/ side of rice/lettuce/guacamole/pico de gallo with warm tortillas.The portion sizes were very generous. Went for an easy quick lunch with colleagues. Saw three parties total in the space. Got the tri fajitas- shrimp, steak, chicken. Now- the steak and chicken were seasoned incredibly well but they only put three shrimp on the entire platter. So either add more shrimp or call it a garnish. The service was a bit of a struggle. The waiter was perfectly nice but several times we had to get up and look for him. I don't need copious attention but it would be nice to get a check in as we were finished with plates and cups and whatnot. Was in Rochester and found this place in a shopping area. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the decor was bright and colorful. They have about seven doors that you need to walk past in the cooler months to find the active one but it's worth the trek! The house margarita was tasty with a spicy salted rim. The agave cosmo was a bit light on alcohol. They provided complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was too mild and a bit sweet. I ordered a frontera burrito which was quite flavorful and a nice queso sauce inside. The carne assada and barria tacos were also tasty. Worth trying if you're in the area. read more

We went to Mecate after a RIT hockey game. We were seated right away. The restaurant was as authentically decorated, clean and comfortable. Just wish they had a place to hang coats such as hooks on the back of the booth seats. Our waitress came right over and took our drink orders. She was a very kind attentive waitress. Made suggestions and clarifications with our orders. We chose this restaurant due to location and vegan options. All our food we ordered was excellent!! Upon arrival, we were seated promptly by our friendly server who quickly brought warm tortilla chips and a thin but delicious salsa/picante sauce in a little pitcher with two individual bowls . We ordered the shrimp ceviche appetizer to share. We were not sure if it was ACTUALLY ceviche, but there was plenty of cut up shrimp (pictured) and avocado. We were looking for a little more marinated lime/lemon flavor, but it was still a delicious, refreshing appetizer. For dinner we ordered the Burrito Frontera and our server recommended Pollo Veracruzano. The burrito was HUGE and was covered with 2 delicious sauces and had excellent flavor (wish I had taken a pic). The Veracruzano had a generous portion of seasoned and sautéed zucchini, pepper and onion that covered the two thin chicken filets. (Pictured) along with 3 small flour tortillas (there is an option for corn tortillas). We did not order a dessert because we were quite full. This was my second time here and we were seated very promptly and greeted by Elena, our server. She was fantastic; friendly and very attentive. It was super cold outside so the host was so kind and seated us as close to the heater as possible. The chips and salsa were great to snack on while waiting for our entrées. Ok my chimichanga could fit in my pocket. To be clear, I am wearing women's jeans which can't even fit my AirPods case in the pockets. But for real, you guys are really skimping with the chimichanga. Many of the reviews I reviewed suspiciously had the same profile picture but different names....so I gravitated to the people I knew or had a good history ofmultiple reviews There's literally 10 doors to get into the place but you can only use the ones on the courtyard side hmmmm. We sat inside cause Canada is on fire, we asked if "it would be a problem" to sit in a certain area and were told it would be a problem hmmmmm. We avoided the "problem", our server was nice, had a good sense of humor, and was fairly attentive. There were probably less than 10 tables that were being served, I'd be concerned about service, bar tender, and kitchen keeping up if there were more. Everything we had was pretty good. The la grandeza margarita was fantastic. The guacamole was good, but the sizing seemed weird small is like a small side dish, and reportedly, the large is like the size of the chip basket. The chicken burrito was pretty bland, the chicken enchilada was ok. The poblano was probably the smallest poblano pepper I've ever seen served. The flan n churros were delicious. read more

Second time at this place first time was shortly after opening and was very good food and very friendly. Second visit recently for lunch with a friend and still friendly helpful staff (Emily), was early in the week so out of my first 2 beer choices so opted for water as did my friend. I had a lunch fajita that was decent but ended up with ample fillings and no tortillas to fill with it, only received 3 with my order, meat was cooked to rubber so an ok choice but wouldn't get again, my friend had the cheese quesadilla, beef enchilada, bean tostada lunch combo and liked it. I would say it was an ok lunch but nothing to brag about compared to our first visit, they say the first 6 months a restaurant is the best then they slack off after the get their base clientele and of course there's always the RIT kids that aren't too concerning. read more

Love this new edition to park point! With limited places to eat in this one time busy area this New Mexican restaurant is a great must stop. The owners are super nice and even treated us to our first beverage at the bar... margaritas are delicious! Bar was the perfect spot for our group to hangout at. Bartender was funny and helpful. I've been hoping for a good Mexican restaurant in the Henrietta area. This place just opened by RIT. Nicely decorated, very clean, and very comfortable seating. Fresh warm chips and salsa to start with, the salsa was very good and house made. If they sold it in jars, I would by it for everyday use. The menu is fairly large and lots to choose from. I got the chicken ENCHILADAS DE CASA. Everything on the plate was hot, fresh, and beautifully seasoned. By far, the best enchiladas I've ever had. My friends chicken quesadillas were also very good with a nice rich and balanced flavor. Overall I'm very impressed and happy to have a local place to go to. My boyfriend and I tried to place an online order but for some reason it was rejected and the website told us to call the restaurant. The first call, somebody had picked up and instead of actually speaking to us left the phone off the hook and had my boyfriend essentially talking to himself. Then they hung up he tried calling back again and was sent to a voicemail box that wasn't set up twice. I waited about 10 minutes and I tried calling from my own number only to be met with the same answering of the phone and listening to other people speak all around the phone but nobody actually saying anything back to me after several "hello?"'s. The place is super nice inside. Staff was exceptionally friendly. I ordered the lunch combo #10 for $9.99, which was a cheese quesadilla, a beef enchilada, and a beef tostada. It also came with complimentary chips and a salsa type dip. My coworker went with the same. The cheese quesadilla was underwhelming bland. The enchilada was pretty dang good, but could've had more sauce on it. The tostada was a delicious work of art. The chips were nice, and I thought whatever the salsa/sauce it came with was phenomenal. A lot of things on the menu look scrumptious, so I will be back to try more things. We come here often and always have a good experience, until now that is. We came in tonight about 8:45 pm, figuring that it would be okay since they close at 10 pm. We ordered two soft drinks, guacamole, and a taco combo.since the restaurant was empty except for us and two guys at the bar, it came out quickly. Before the food came out, the music was turned off - it was just 9 pm. We had been eating under 10 minutes when the waiter approached, slowly set the bill on the table, then slunk away. As We left, I asked if they were open until 10 pm. Oh yes, but with the storm coming was the response.......I asked what storm, it's winter, we live in upstate NY, it snows. My guacamole was bland and watery. I had to get my own box for the chips. And one of my pet peeves is having the check put on the table while I am STILL eating. If the staff want to leave early, then CLOSE THE RESTAURANT. DONT LET PEOPLE IN, TAKE ORDERS THEN PUSH THEM OUT THE DOOR BY TURNING OFF THE MUSIC AND GIVING THEM THE CHECK. We have been here three times and every time the food has been phenomenal as well as the service. The burritos are the size of a new born child and the pork is next level. The margaritas are also really good with less sugary bs ingredients. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and there is a full sized bar if you are in a casual mood. I came here with a work group for lunch and we all had a great time. The place is very nice inside, lots of cool decor, clean, and comfortable seating. They started us off with chips and salsa, which everyone got their own little dish of salsa too. The salsa was very tomatoey tasting but was decent. We all ordered different things from fish tacos (which I got), to burritos, fajitas and chimichangas. My grilled fish tacos were very good and filling. They were a tiny bit dry but the salsa was actually very good on them. Everyone said mmm with every bite and left quite satisfied.
