We arrived at around 6:30 on a Saturday and were seated just a little after 7:00, which I thought was pretty good. I did later notice 9 empty tables and people still waiting, so something didn't add up unless they were hurting for employees. Wasn't my business and we were there to enjoy a meal with our youngest granddaughter. Our server was at the table in a reasonable amount of time and we placed drink orders. Their drink came very quickly and they brought a water since my margarita wasn't ready yet. We ordered some queso to enjoy with the chips and salsa. It came out after a bit and we were having a good visit. The server came back by and refilled our granddaughter's drink. After a bit we had eaten most of the chips and still no margarita. I mentioned it and she refilled the chips and said she would check on the drink. It finally came maybe 5 minutes later, shortly before our food started coming out. Margaritas aren't like red wine. The glass out to be filled to just below the salt and not an inch below the rim. But, it was at least finally there. My wife's fajitas were there, our granddaughter's burrito was there, my rice and beans were there - but my quesadilla wasn't, so i mentioned it to the person that had brought our food. She acknowledged that and left. Everyone else was finished with their food and I had finished most of my rice and beans before I could flag down our server and mention that they had not brought my meal and I had mentioned it when they brought everyone else's food. She acted a bit surprised almost like she didnt remember me even ordering, but clearly my rice and beans were there, just not the entree. She left and didn't come back to update us at all until she showed up with a plate of something - not a quesadilla. It was poorly made tacos with chicken and a few sprinkles of unmelted cheese. When i mentioned it she claimed that was the way they made their quesadillas. I've had the chicken fajita quesadillas at Chuy's before and that's not the way they were made. If they had bern, then I certainly would not have ordered them again. This Chuy's is relatively new, but they have been open more than long enough to have their act together. This is very disappointing service and even more disappointing food. My assessment of this Chuy's and of Chuy's in general are that they are pretty much hit and miss. You might have a great visit, then a couple bad visits. That's not a way to build a successful business. Chuy's was recently bought by Darden Restaurants. They need to figure it out pretty quickly or Darden will close their doors. I hope they get it together; but i will likely be without my business. read more

Finally a good clean place for texmex New Mexico style food. The creamy jalepeno and salsa Fresca is a great start....and the queso is amazing. Employees go above and beyond. An easy review, NOT impressed. Chuy's in Abilene has been open a couple of months, but there is still always a line. We went for a really late lunch, and only waited about 15 minutes. I must say, I loved the chips and salsa. Delicious! Glenda got the King's Memorial Combo. It looked great , and she loved it. I was in the mood for soft tacos. Definitely not impressed. Finally!! Chuy's is one of my favorite chain restaurants, so when I heard there would be one in Abilene I was thrilled. It didn't disappoint! They always start off with their creamy jalapeño dip and their salsa, which resembles more of a pico de gallo style. You can always count on their food having flavor and heat if you're looking for spice. I recommend their steak burrito, their boom boom sauce, and their tres leche cake. I've ordered to go and eaten inside. Wonderful service both times! I will say it's on the smaller side compared to other locations and usually busy. Chuy's is a well known Mexican restaurant chain that is finally getting ready to open its doors tomorrow. We were invited to attend the soft opening this past Friday. Atmosphere: Quite a spacious area. We sat outside on the patio which happened to be a gorgeous evening. The patio faces East so in the evenings you are shaded the entire time. 1 Star Service: It was the soft opening and so of course everyone was overly nice. But it absolutely felt genuine. Our waitress (Kaitlyn) was fantastic. She was vibrant and she was not afraid to admit that she was still learning and she did great! The manager made his way to our table as well and introduced himself and made sure we had all that we needed. 2 Stars Food: With the soft opening, they had many different menus that they handed out as you checked in. Each menu had about 5-6 items on it. You were given 3 of each menu at random. So what you got to try was just a lottery. Some tables got menus with fajitas, tacos, and particular appetizers, while other tables got enchiladas, shrimp tacos, and flautas. It was a nice experience. This allowed the staff to prepare and serve a wide variety from their menu rather than everyone's "usuals." We opted for queso, panchos (their version of nachos), and flautas for an appetizer. Queso was great! Flautas were maybe a little bland (could have used some diced green chilies or more spices in them), and the panchos were fantastic! I ordered the Big As Yo' Face Burrito and it lived up to its name. I could barely manage ¼ of it. I got the fajita steak version covered in queso (because it was so tasty). The wife ordered the Shrimp Tacos and loved them. Overall, everything was great! 1.5 Stars Overall: 4.5 Stars. Food was great, atmosphere was fabulous, and the wait staff was phenomenal. As longtime Chuy's fans from Austin, we were beyond excited to try the new Abilene location--and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, the energy felt just like the original, and the team here is clearly doing things the right way. The entire ambiance had the Keep Austin Weird vibe down to the fake Picasso and Elvis paintings. The food was absolutely phenomenal. We started with queso (creamy and addictive), then split the Chuychanga and steak enchiladas--both cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. Our friend ordered the flautas, and they disappeared just as quickly. Everything tasted fresh, nostalgic, and exactly like the Chuy's we grew up with in South Texas. The drinks were equally impressive. Shelby, the bartender, made margaritas with the perfect ratio--balanced, refreshing, and dangerously good. Our server Callie was incredible as well: warm, attentive, and on point the entire night. Between the food, the drinks, and the service, the whole experience felt seamless. It's rare that a new location captures the heart of an iconic brand, but Chuy's Abilene nailed it. This isn't just a Tex-Mex spot--it's the real deal, the kind of place that makes you want to bring all your friends and family. Tuesday night, obnoxiously loud. MANY empty tables, still waited 15 minutes for a seat. Then 31 minutes for food... The food of course was really good. We are Chuy's fans from our visits to San Antonio and Fresno Ca. This was not the same . We used a gift card which was bought at your restaurant for happy hour. The bar waitress was good. When we were seated for dinner we attempted to use the remainder of gift card at our table for our meal, but it was denied although there was over $36 balance. We waited 30 minutes for our waitress to deal with problem with NO help from management! When management finally arrived they did not even attempt to call for balance (plus the bar waitress said we had $ left on card). We were just told we had to pay balance. They were rude and made no attempt to resolve this issue. Basically we felt Chuy's had stolen our money. We will never eat at the Abilene, TX Chuy's again! read more

I know I have reviewed Chuy's before, but the service we got from Amanda was over the top. She had refills before our cups were empty. Chip refills. She checked in on us. Now the place was busy, she was getting things done quickly. There was a wait for our food, but no one at our table minded it since we had chips and good queso. Dinner was great as expected. We didn't even get to eat there tonight because the hostesses were very rude. We walked in to get put on the waitlist and asked about the wait time and when we said we had a larger party they made an annoyed face and had a very rude attitude when talking to us. As we were walking out my friend heard them say some rude comments towards us and when we called back to talk to a manager about it they were very rude to us again. When we asked for a manager, they said they would redirect us and they sent us to another person working, who was not a manager, and refused to send us to one. I've never had a bad experience with Chuys food or service before which is why this is very upsetting especially for a newly opened store. read more

New to Abilene, first time Chuy's customer. Ordered the boom boom chicken enchiladas with mexican rice and refried beans. My immediate thought after trying everything was Stockholm syndrome. People at work talked this place up like it was a golden palatial cuisine of kings when they heard it was coming to town. The truth is Abilene needs to step up their food game cause this shit is cheap trash. Beans were incredibly salty and bland, enchiladas were tiny, hollow little tubes with a grand total of 2 oz of chicken, then smothered in salty "boom boom sauce" which is just salty queso with green shit in it, maybe verde salsa? Idk man, not a fan. Hella disappointed, esp considering the hype. I'll stick to Abuelos for now. The carhop was nice, they did give a shit ton of chips with some (maybe) ranch? read more

We moved here from Fort Worth and loved chuy's. First visit wasn't too bad and we knew they were still working out the kinks. However second visit we sat at the bar and was a disaster. The bartender should have never been left alone without major supervision. Had to read recipes for drinks and they were awful and inconsistent. Totally hosed up our order to the point my wife just said take it away. Even screwed up our appetizers. We left and will be quite a while before we go back. Had to ask over and over for just. Chips. We got to Chuy's 10 minutes before it opened and there was already a line of people. We were seated as soon as the doors opened. Music playing in the background with a full house. All the staff were great. Spencer was our waiter. He took our drink order and brought our chips and salsa. We also order guacamole. I had 3 tacos with rice and beans. The wife had Green Chile fried chicken with rice and beans. Food came out fast and hot. It was delicious. Spencer made sure our drinks and chips were never empty. He checked on us throughout our meal. When you come to Chuy's make sure to ask for Spencer he is a great server with a great Ora and pleasantness about him. I understand change over and not having servers but a bunch of people bunched together is not pleasant, on top of too many people too close together my food came out cold to the touch, I ordered the deluxe chicken enchiladas and the chicken was hard enough that I struggled a good bit to cut it with the butter knife, the only redeeming thing about this establishment that I can mention is that we came a few days ago at lunch and it was truly day and night, service was great that afternoon as well the food being hot. won't be returning again for the nighttime.
