I've been to all the local Tex-Mex joints in the NOVA area and Chuy's is by far our favorite spot to visit. All the food is prepared fresh from scratch every day and the quality comes through in the flavor and the presentation. Dishes I highly recommend: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Chile rellenos stuffed with some tasty stuff, steak burrito (swap the spicy Hatch green chile sauce for some queso and a fried egg if you're feelin' froggy), Baja fish tacos, and anything else with QUESO on it! The Tres Leches cake is the best dessert you'll EVER order in any restaurant, so save room and quit choking down chips y salsa like it's your job, pigs! You can try all the many homemade sauces for free to see which you prefer on your burritos, chuy'changas, or even your mom, etc. If you're a first-timer, then try many sauces, but if not, then... Don't ask for the "sauce Tour" 'cuz then they know you're a regular and you'll get judged... Harambe! For the most part, the staff is overly friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the menu and the inner workings of the restaurant's origins dating back to a small, hole-in-the-wall joint in Austin, TX. I've never been to Austin but I'm sure the original Chuy's has a story or two behind it's decor and ambiance, if this location is any indication. The Elvis shrine in the lobby sets the tone for the restaurant's atmosphere. I think they got their start way back in 1978? But don't quote me on that... I've had quite a few servers since I started eating here when they opened way back when, and they all had their own style and panache. Ask for Kurt if you're heading for the dining room, or Carin if you're gonna spend some time in the bar, and you can't go wrong! NEVER AGAIN! OFFENSIVE to anyone who respects religious freedom and diversity. When spouse-dude and self were shown to our table, we both immediately noticed something peculiar: a somewhat rumpled, badly printed paper sleeve (he thought it was trash at first) reading "This silverware has been SANITIZED for your protection," with bad clip art of a flower in a vase, in hideous yellow and green ink. Reminiscent of the ugly paper strips that motels used to place around toilet seats. BUT WAIT -- IT GETS WORSE. MUCH WORSE! After extracting our tinny tableware from its ugly protective device (and after spouse-dude scraped some crud off his knife), we discovered that the back side of the paper sleeve was printed with PRAYERS! THREE PRAYERS, in fact: your choice of Protestant, Catholic, or Jewish versions of the pre-meal ritual. Here in the DC area, those denominations probably account for less than half the population, and we were personally offended that a restaurant felt compelled to provide religious materials to its clientele. There is a mosque walking distance from the Fairfax location, and I wonder if its members aren't offended. (They should be.) We only chose this place because we've driven passed by it a lot and seen another location when we are traveling. Also it had 4 stars on yelp, which is very misleading, by the way. Now I have yelp trust issues. Finally decided to stop in and try a new place. Don't think we'll ever be returning again. The wait was 20-30 mins. The food is salty. Nothing special. The service was terrible. One of those no point in telling a manager terrible. Just wanted to eat and go. As a server I always like to be served the way I serve others. My 3 year old daughter who is a very good eater barely touched her plate. Her kids dish was very salty. The rice was really hard I wasn't sure if it was under cooked but all of our rice came out the same. We did go in with the intentions of having a drink, but never got a drink menu. I did see a table order one of the famous margaritas but our server was barley stopping by our table. We did have to keep asking other servers for things we needed. Which is ok team work makes the dream work. But I was really looking for the 4 star experience. And looking forward to 4 star food. I dined here today and found my overall experience to be quite satisfactory. The interior had a charming decor, featuring colorful wooden fish hanging from the ceiling and numerous pictures and paintings of puppies and other images on the walls. The vintage diner chairs and booth added an interesting touch. I chose to sit in a booth, which, while cushioned, felt somewhat rigid at a 90-degree angle, making it less than ideal for extended comfort. The food portions were generous and reasonably priced. While the flavor was decent, there is potential for enhancement--particularly regarding the freshness of the guacamole and lettuce served on the side. Ive eaten here several times now and I just love the atmosphere and great margaritas. My fav is the Texas Martini because its a margarita in a martini glass with jalapeño stuffed olives. I've ordered their enchiladas a lot and am never disappointed. The portions are really large so make sure you ask for a to go box. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star is because the staff needs some improvement. They aren't bad, just a little slow and forgetful. We got in and got a table quickly but the server took a while to come. Once he came he didn't look happy, took our order and never came back. We had to constantly get up ask for drinks, napkins, sauces it was a mess! The food was your normal chuys food the steak fajitas were so chuy and full of fat I almost chocked I wouldn't recommend it. On a busy Saturday night, I had dinner with my family and experienced a short wait time and a very welcoming service. Karla, our server, was hilarious and attentive! I thoroughly enjoyed my Rockin Rita, and the chimichanga is absolutely delicious, thanks to her excellent menu suggestions. It was so considerate of her to get us some chips and salsa to go.
