It was nearly two years ago I tried to visit the del ray location but it was raining and at the time they couldn't be open in those conditions, so it was fitting to visit the mosaic location and eat comfortably outside, as it rained. The decor is vibrant and inviting. We tried a variety of food: sharp dressed man, Baja taco, walking taco, and half pound pork ribs. The margarita was good and he liked the beer selection. My favorite parts were the cinco de mayo specials for drinks and the sharp dressed man. Didn't love the total price at the end but would certainly do any specials or HH. read more

Awesome service and enjoyable food make Hi/Fi a unique and enjoyable stop in the Mosaic District. They have a unique BBQ & Tex-Mex menu and they offer both BBQ and Tex Mex items or some items that are the best of both worlds. The chips and guacamole was enjoyable. Nothing special about the chips but they did the job, The guacamole was very tasty and a large enough portion to fill all the chips. The tacos here are a must try! The Taco El Vis is a tribute to the King himself. It's a unique taco I've never seen anywhere else and is smoky bacon, peanut butter, sweet and sour habanero and smoked crema. It might sound odd but it all works together perfectly for a unique and very enjoyable taco. The Sharp Dressed Man is also enjoyable but not quite as unique as El Vis. It has homemade smoked brisket, homemade queso, pico, and crema on a corn tortilla. The sides are worth a try as well. The plantains are perfectly seasoned and freshly fried. The black beans are also hot and fresh though I don't think we got the cojita and pickled onions Drinks are also a hit here. The Tommy's margarita is a tasty basic margarita while the Al Pastor margarita has mezcal, rum, pineapple and smoke bitters for a unique and enjoyable smoky taste. Service is very friendly here and they have a record/music theme with amps in the back and classic rock hits playing. They have a few shuffleboard tables and a vintage Golden Tee machine if you want to play some golf. This place isn't cheap (welcome to Mosaic) but it's an enjoyable spot with tasty food/drinks and awesome service and I'll come here again. read more

I stumbled into this place as it used to be the red apron. The owners are the same but this is their new concept. I love tex mex but many places are not good. I came for lunch and got the brisket nachos and a margarita. The nachos were huge portion but the brisket was moist and tender. The margarita was tasty but small for the price tag. Since I came on weekday, there was only a few people inside. The server behind the register was very helpful and even bussed table. Went here to eat with a few friends. It's limited and uncomfortable seating if there are more than 4 adults as some of us had to sit on bar stools at small tables. I had El Miguel which is 2 tacos and a cheese enchilada with a side of rice and beans. The beef tacos had the freshest ingredients around but lacked a sauce which made it dry. The shell was tasty. The enchilada was flavorful but half the size of the tacos. (I finished it in three bites.) Unfortunately service was subpar. My wife didn't get the sides she ordered and we had to figure out on our own that we paid at the front after nobody came to our table to give us a check. Finally, the price was too high for the food, the quality of service, and the amount of food. These are the reasons I gave it 2 stars. So, your first decision is ... what type of food do I want to try? My wife and I decided on the BBQ ... and we were quite happy with our choice. She had the Sliced Prime Beef Brisket and I went for the Pork Spare Ribs. When the food arrived, you could tell from the plating that this was going to be an elevated experience. All the meats were very well prepared and were seasoned in a wonderful way, offering some interesting flavors. And the side dishes of rice and beans were also well prepared and a great accompaniment. A group of friends and I came here around 5:30 on a Thursday evening. The girl that runs our dinner group had tried to call in advance to make a reservation since we had roughly 7-10 people coming in our group. She was put on hold before someone hung up on her. When she called back all the person could give her was an "I'm sorry." The service started off okay and when we placed food and drink orders it came fairly quickly. After our food and first round of drinks arrived, service went down hill. In the groups opinion, they seemed overwhelmed hence the poor service at the end. Food and cocktails were great! Dinner on the early side, so the restaurant wasn't crowded yet. It's an order-at-the-counter kind of place, then pick a booth. Tables have a refillable water bottle and a few cups, as well as a stack of napkins. Ambiance is fine. You can see the food prep area and there were some counter seats along that area. Service was friendly and fast. I asked for some recommendations and as the worker shared his favorites, it hit me that I was in a bbq place but couldn't smell a whiff of it. That seemed really odd to me, like maybe the meats were smoked elsewhere? We ordered the chips and queso ($9), which was lukewarm although it had good flavor (hotter would have been way better). I had the 1/4 lb. chopped brisket ($21) that came with rice, beans and three corn tortillas, as well as pickled peppers and onions, a creamy salsa verde, and crema. The beef was fine, nothing amazing and again with no bbq scent. Rice and beans were smoky and had a lot of flavor. Portion size is average, not overly generous but not wasteful. The Caesar salad is the best I've had in a long time. I asked for it with a few anchovies on top, and they obliged. I used to work in a nice French restaurant, and I made the Caesar salad dressing there, so I have pretty high standards and the chef met and surpassed them. Well done Hifi! read more

The tacos are really good, not your regular taco stand, think of traveling to Texas and having Tex-Mex around San Antonio. You order at the counter and someone brings your food. We had the tacos, chips and quesadilla, high quality ingredients. Very clean, I really like the decor, very modern mex style. Zach has served us more than once and is always spot on to what we need. ​This restaurant was recently mentioned in Arlington Magazine's Bargain Bites edition so we decided to check it out tonight! We love bbq and Mexican food so it sounds perfect! When we walked in, we were greeted by a gentleman behind the counter. We sat down at the last remaining booth and decided on our entrees. Hubby ordered the pulled pork platter (1/4 lb.) and two Night In America tacos at the counter. They didn't have iced tea (bummer!) so we just drank water. The pulled pork platter came with rice and beans, all of which were delicious. However, the best part of dinner was the tacos. I liked dinner more than hubby but I didn't care as much for the atmosphere. It has a dive bar feeling, with not enough seating. By the time we left, there wasn't any seating left. They got my friend's order wrong but managed it very well by correcting it, apologized for the mistake, great attitudes, and actually taking it off the bill. All our food was cold so that was unexpected, with the exception of a hot Birria burrito. It was surprising that the rice, beans, and consommé were cold too. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. The fries were hot, crispy, and salty. Chips and queso, chips are on the thicker side, a tiny bit stale but edible. Not something you can't stop munching on. The Birria burrito was warm and pretty good. Overall nice experience and would probably get better as they get more into the grove. read more

This place is amazing! Wound up trying four tacos even though we ordered three. We got Sweet Potato Al Pastor, Sharp Dressed Man and El Vez. Due to a mix up they also gave us the Taco Night in America, which may be the best ground beef taco I've ever had. Tried the sweet potato and El Vez because they sounded different. They were, in the most wonderful way. The El Vez had such an interesting combo of ingredients (including peanut butter) and it was delicious! Leaving what might be the best for last, the Sharp Dressed Man. They said their specialty was brisket, and they were not lying. I'm going to dream about that one. Wanted to try the Del Ray location, but this worked out better and I love that we could park in the garage right next to it didn't have to search for street parking! Staff was super nice and attentive, the vibe is very cool, and the food is outstanding. Wife and I had the margaritas (definitely make it a Cadillac!) which were delicious, and I'm really picky (I juice my own limes when I make em at home). She raved about the turkey in her Yardbird Taco and our nephew loved the cheese enchiladas. I got the half-pound plate of chopped brisket and had them half-and-half it with the carnitas. The meat was perfectly smoked and seasoned and the rice, beans, pico and peppers were a nice compliment. And the warm corn tortillas were surprisingly tasty...they're normally a disappointing afterthought at a lot of places, but these were the best I've had at a Tex-Mex place in the DMV! Ordered ahead for a 5pm pickup before the superbowl. Got six tacos, 2 each of Sharp Dressed Man, Orange Soda Carnitas and Taco Night in America + the 3 meat combo with sides of greens and creamy cole slaw. It was our first time, and we were excited. Walking in to pick up the order, it was empty and looked like a bar. Did not smell anything barbecue-y in the place. Hmm. Staff was fairly efficient and pleasant putting the order together and I left right on time with our food. Got home quickly and ready to dig in! Tacos were somewhat different, of course, but none had a flavor that was remarkable. Brisket is indistinguishable from pulled beef, and nothing tasted smoked. Sliced turkey in the meat platter was the best part--peppery ring on the outside of each slice. Brisket was the same--not smoky, just a moderately small cup of dry, pulled beef. Carnitas was serviceable, not remarkable. Greens were turrrible and the slaw was very sour. Did we eat it? Yes. Did we love it? Nope. Would I recommend? Probably not. read more
