Came here on a Thursday night to a pretty packed house. The service was superb (one of the best I have ever experienced in Vancouver) with a down to earth, knowledgeable server who was comfortably attentive. The staff even remembered my friend (and details about his last visit) who hadn't been to the restaurant in 5 months! He was super impressed to say the least. The decor is classy and modern, with large funky artwork to give it a youthful edge. The food? Great. We had the tagliatelle pasta, the sidney island venison and the pheasant salad. All three dishes kept us very happy eating from each others plates : ) The boys ordered some form of 'man drink' and we were all impressed to see the skewer of FRESH big green olives. Now that is a nice change from the standard mushy (but still tasty) olive. Cibo is a great place to take a date and you'll get treated like a million bucks! It's been on my places to go list for a year now but now made it to the top with all the recent hype since it was named EnRoute's best new resto in 2009. I agree with John K's comments - it was definitely good, but I suppose I was expecting a foodgasmic kind of experience :) I was meeting a girlfriend for dinner Sat night and was the first to arrive. I sat at the table for over 5 minutes before the server came by to ask me if I wanted anything to drink while waiting. OK wine list. Service improved after that and there were regular check-ins during the meal. I went with the pre-theatre menu and she ordered a la carte. Bread service included an herb and an onion focaccia which were nicely flavored and didn't need olive oil. My butternut squash ravioli was very good. Mussels were average in a creme and white wine sauce - I wouldn't order them again. Their chocolate nemesis cake was delicious - lovely taste and texture and the side of creme fraiche went perfectly with the cake. I like the freshness and use of local ingredients. The prices are very reasonable. ($35 for the pre-theatre 3 course meal until 7pm, and a la carte choices are about 15 for appys and primis, 20-25 for secondis, and 10 for dessert). Wow! I've been much too lazy to Yelp for much of the past year, but wow. I think I'm in love. I've been to Cibo once when they were first opened and started winning all the restaurant of the year award in 2009? I thought it was good but didn't really blow me away. This year I was invited to a stagette at UVA Wine Bar which shares the same kitchen as Cibo. I showed up late as I had prior commitments. i had had dinner already but noticed all the incredible dishes coming out. Being the Little Miss Piggy that I am, of course I didn't think twice about ordering a second dinner. Octopus Bolognese Spaghetti. Oh My GOD. It was such a revelation, the pasta was cooked at dente so perfectly, the sauce, oh the sauce was rich and fresh and had the sweetness of the octopus. I almost wish they didn't change their menu daily so I could have it again and again and again for breakfast, lunch and dinner! So with the Octopus Bolongese haunting me, I decided to plan my best friend's birthday at Cibo last week. Six ladies who could eat! I lied and manipulated my friends telling them the servings were really small so we could order more dishes. Muhahahah! Right away everyone wanted to order their Agnoli stuffed with roasted suckling pig and duck. I remember it was served with pan juices and some sort citrus. So good and wayy too much food. Of course before all that was the appies that I made every single girl order one of. I chose the Crispy pig head warm salad with crispy bone marrow. I tell you those pieces of crispy head. I can still taste it when I close my eyes. The olives were so fresh and succulent and juicy, the prosciutto was melt in your mouth, heirloom tomatoes were so plump. I seriously cannot say a bad thing about Cibo. As the meal drew to an end, and each girl forcing their last agnolis down their throat, we decided to all share one dessert for just a sweet taste. We ordered a Vanilla panna cotta which was sooo rich and creamy and indulgent served with some seriously boozy cherries. Everyone left the dinner happy and thanked me for the great choice. The food was A-OK. It wasn't anything too impressive. I did dinner here with my boyfriend for new year's eve since most places were packed. Cibo was relatively on the quiet side, nothing too crazy. It made the dinner nice and comforting. So on the night of NYE, they had a special pre-fixed 5-course menu. The only thing I really enjoyed out of the five was the cod spaghetti. It was light and different than the typical spaghetti. My boyfriend had some risotto loaded with parmesan but it didn't look very appealing. It actually looked really disgusting, but it tasted great! We had a nice experience here, but the food didn't wow me enough for me to want to revisit Cibo. read more

Let's start at the top... I made a reservation a few days ago for 6 people on Saturday night. The morning of the reservation my brother mentioned he'd like to join us so I called and asked if they could up the reservation to 7 people. The guy on the phone said no problem at all and that was that. A few hours later they called me to confirm the reservation for 6 people, and I told them I'd called earlier and updated it to 7 people, the guy said that they had no record of that, and they had a lot of groups that night, and it would be difficult to accommodate 7 but they'd try their best to make it work. So we get to the restaurant, it's nearly empty. They have us sat at a round table that could easily hold 9-10 people, with 7 chairs around. The entire time we were at the restaurant there was at maximum 4 other tables seated with a total of 2 customers per table, no other groups. Not sure what the reservation fuss was about... but that was just the tip of the ice berg anyhow. I ordered a bottle of wine for the table, specified by name, and they brought out one that was nearly twice the price. Fortunately I caught it and they brought out the correct one shortly after. So far it was just a couple of minor hiccups, and I was still optimistic. They brought out appetizers, including our charcuterie board which was described on the menu as "daily selection of smoked meats and artisanal cheeses", but it came out without any cheese, just a few pieces of bread and 3 selections of meats. We asked where the cheese was and they brought out 2 small cubes of parmesan. Nearly an hour and a half later (while the restaurant is still 80% empty), they brought our entrees. Yep, we waited over an hour for our food to arrive. The wine was long gone, my mom has some joint problems and was having difficulty sitting for that long. "Fortunately" for us (sarcasm), we had both ordered the ravioli, which was absolutely the worst ravioli I had ever tried. Neither of us finished it, or even bothered to eat much of it at all, and so I was able to take my mom home so she could be more comfortable. The ravioli was described as being in a sage butter sauce with ricotta cheese. My mom asked the waiter when she ordered if the ricotta cheese was in the ravioli or on it, he just nodded and walked away. There was no ricotta cheese, it was essentially slices of either undercooked or dried out lasagna slices (read: hard and stale) on a plate, scattered with corn and slices of parmesan and drenched in melted oil and butter. A few of the pasta sheets appeared to have maybe a half or quarter teaspoon of something sandwiched between them, but I couldn't tell what it was, it definitely was not ricotta. It seemed to have the consistency of tuna? I'm not sure. The other group members said their food was just okay, my husband had the tagliatelle, which he said the noodles had the consistency of thick rubber bands and the meatballs looked like they may have not been cooked through. Of course they tacked on an 18% gratuity for making us wait around for an hour and a half for our terrible food. Fortunately one of our party members spoke up about the ravioli and they took it off the bill, though of course not before trying to get them to settle for free dessert (even though the two of us who ordered the ravioli were long gone). 1st went to Cibo Trattoria with a Travelzoo deal. Then 6th Restaurant Dineout Vancouver 2012 $38 per person Started with the pasta. Ravioli stuffed with pumpkin & ricotta, with bits of amoretti cookie and leaves fried sage on top. The stuffing for the ravioli is sweet & creamy. Quite good. Pasta cooked to perfection. I liked the fried sage leaves, crispy and after frying the sage did not taste bitter Entree we had the roasted suckling pig. Tender slice of pork + crunchy skin (not much fat attached) Honestly I was never a fan of pork but this is different. Meat is juicy and tender and did not have the strong fridge 'pork' taste. The slice of meat was well rested on a bed of canelli beans (kinda mushy but good beans) All surrounded by roasting juices. Dessert I had the Panna cotta with preserved plums. The plums were a tad on the sour side but the panna cotta was so creamy (taste like 1000 calories) You can see specks of black vanilla within the panna cotta. So silky smooth. Best panna cotta I've ever had, this dessert being one of the few great Italian desserts. Along with La Terrazza, Cibo are 2 of the best Dine Out Restaurants this year. Service is great. Parking is not a problem as long as you are willing to pay. read more

So I finally had a proper dinner at Cibo instead of cheating in the wine bar next door! We had a lovely round marble table for our group of six ladies before heading to the Fuse event at VAG. The table is right in front of a blazing hot fireplace though, but you can ask them to turn it off. It was so nice to be able to dine "family-style" in a Western restaurant. Makes it so much more comfortable to be able to share all the food! For starters here's what we had: Duck leg - phenomenally tasty, fork tender and very substantial appetizer! Winter greens - with beets, balsamic, goat cheese Veal tonnato - thinly sliced, mayonnaise and capers Onto the pastas, we tried everything on the menu except for the gnocchi with rabbit (sorry, I just can't do it anymore with a pet rabbit..) My favourite is still the wild mushroom risotto, but I also really enjoyed the butternut squash ravioli and the agnoli with lamb (they look like little won tons). I wouldn't recommend the spaghetti nero with octopus - a bit too fishy tasting for me. The cardoon (sort of like a broccoli) gratin was cheezy and creamy, without being too heavy - thumbs up to that. Really good restaurant all-around - good food, service and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. I had 2 glasses of their special red blend (which is a super Tuscan style done in collaboration with the La Stella winery in Osoyoos), which is a very hearty wine that drinks well and is a touch acid on the tongue, so a perfect accompaniment with food. A $39 prix fixe menu was what I chose. First came out their fish soup, which was a tomato soup with a strong aroma of what almost seemed to be grilled sardines, with a piece of crusty bread topped with a garlic relish. The soup had a great savoriness with even the tomato sweetness accented just a touch. As such, it was very hard to eat it and not think of bouillabaisse, though this definitely had some of the hallmarks - a fishy aftertaste, with a strong condiment on dry bread. Second on the menu were some extras I ordered at $2.50 apiece, an arancini (deep-fried risotto ball stuffed with mozzarella cheese) and panelle (polenta fried hard as well). The panelle was crusty and hot on the outside, but the smooth creaminess of polenta soon shone through. Seasoned simply, it was a perfect little snack. The arancini had a great balance with a nice citrus coating on the outside, with a very mild mozzarella in the center so as to not bog one down. The main that I chose was a grilled skirt steak with horseradish creme fraiche. It was wonderful - the steak was done rare to medium rare, which contrasted nicely with the strong accent of horseradish. The whole dish, when combined with wine (and actually a bit of the arancini and panelle) made for a harmonious presentation of the ingredients where the sum was better than the parts. Finally came their chocolate nemesis with a creme fresh dollop, which was very smart. The nemesis is THICK - rich and smooth, it almost reminds one of mousse except it's nowhere near as creamy so it's actually really overwhelming on the tongue. Beautiful chocolate taste, though. The creme fraiche added a bit of tartness to help take some of the weight off the chocolate. I also found that my choice of having the house sparkling water (made with some kind of carbonator instead of bottled) also helped because the acid in the water helped to clear up some of the richness. The service was very good, constantly refreshing our glasses and giving a good chat about various things as we needed. I was very pleased overall with the restaurant! Though it could stand to have less hipster dance beat music in the background. It's across from the Orpheum - use some other inspiration! read more

Cibo is a fancy restaurant with frequently changing menus. They serve Italian food with smaller portions, but I just feel that when we ate in part of the Liguria Regional Dinner, the meal could have used some more acidity all around. read more

I felt like Italian but didn't want to break the bank and go to Cin Cin. I trawled the net and ended up choosing Cibo on the back of the best new restaurant award and some other internet love. Overall I had a enjoyable night but after the buzz wore down I really can't give it any higher than 3 stars. Food We choose some specials including a black pudding with a bio dynamic egg. The presentation was poor to say the least and the dish really lacked another element. It did not feel like an appetizer and much more like a breakfast dish. The black pudding was nice enough but overall the dish didn't work The second dish we choose was the roasted marrow with a parsley and pickle salad. I love marrow and parley is a great match and the pickle was a very nice touch. However, I got two piece of marrow and one had only a tiny teaspoon of marrow inside. Poor quality control rather than a bad dish. Another criticism would be that all the flavours worked well together but you couldn't put them in one mouthful. You had a teaspoon for the marrow and a fork for the salad. The pasta dishes we had for mains were good but not outstanding. One highlight was the tangerine and meyer lemon tart which was one of the better citrus tarts I have had the pleasure of eating. Service The service was great from the aspect that we were very smoothly transitioned from UVA next door into the restaurant. Our server was friendly and courteous and really made us feel relaxed. A great job from him made the night enjoyable. One gripe was that we left him to choose wines but once chosen there was very limited explanation of the wine and none as to why he thought it would match. Ambiance A nice dining small sized dining room that was nicely lit with some stylish design features. I have heard complaints that it was too loud for some but I thought it was more lively than loud. All in all I like others are unsure of how this restaurant won a best new restaurant award but don't doubt that it will always be appealing to some. read more

To be fair we had been Yelping a few places and some of them gave us a bad vibe just walking in to them so we ended up here. The service was okay, but there wasn't much in terms of menu options, especially for vegetarians. While my meal was fine it was sad because of the limited option. The husband had an okay meal, some of the dishes didn't really have amazing descriptions but luckily we enjoyed them. Nothing really stood out, so I'm not sure it could withstand the price tag on a normal day. This place probably would have been a lot better for us if we drank wine. I have a feeling the food plus wine would lean to a much more harmonious experience. read more

I took my wife here for a special birthday. The menu changes daily and today's was a wonderful summery combination of light, fresh ingredients. To start with I had slices of lamb tongue that were crispy on the outside and juicy and rich on the inside served with amazing lard-roasted baby turnips and balsamic. My wife had a wonderful salad of fresh leaves and pecorino cheese. The pasta courses in particular were outstanding. All home made, my tagliatelle with firm, fresh porcini backed up with parsley and sorrel in a delicate lemon butter was fantastic - all the flavours were distinctly present but worked together perfectly to create a harmonious whole. The rest of the meal was also superb with only a slight reservation about the cheese platter which wasn't as imaginative and varied a selection as I had hoped for. The service was outstanding throughout - friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The recommended wine was just right - even more pleasing as I would never have chosen a rose myself. A friend and I went to Cibo after a number of recommendations. After my meal, I was surprised... as my general impression ended up being that it was "okay"...but that's it. For the price tag ($45/person without the wine), I have had much more flavourful and better presented meals in Vancouver. Perhaps it's because we ordered all vegetarian options... but the food was just "not spectacular". Herb and spice use was very minimal; in fact it seemed like salt was the addition of choice (twice I noticed my friend making a comment about the amount of salt in his food). The exception to this statement was the buffalo mozzarella bruschetta... the mint in this dish really made the flavours pop. There was not anything wrong with the food per say, it was more that I was expecting some "pizzaz" that just didn't happen (perhaps this expectation came from the price tag). I should mention though... a definite strong point of Cibo was the service! Our waitress was exceptional. She recommended a great bottle of wine, and was very attentive and knowledgeable. She was also very accommodating to offer a replacement when I found one of the side dishes (fiddleheads) to be prepared in a rather bitter sauce. Overall - it was okay, but my experience was definitely not in line with some of the other reviewers. read more

This restaurant was once listed as one of the best restaurants in Canada by Enroute. Sadly, those days are long gone. We keep trying it, because the room is beautiful, the wine list is great, and the pasta is fantastic. Our latest visit was another disappointment. 2 people in our group had meat and vegetables and while good, they were just ok. Nothing special. The mushroom ravioli with blue cheese is very good, as is the bolognese, but the caprese salad was very sad for an Italian restaurant. We probably shouldn't have ordered it, given that this is not the best time of year for tomatoes, but even the cheese didn't taste fresh and the arugula was tired. The Tiramisu used to be the best in the City - but clearly that has changed as well. It was just ok and the chunks of brownie didn't work. It would be great if they could bring back the old Chef and take some pride again. read more

Recently I had an awesome dining experience at Cibo's. I went thee with eight of my closest friends to celebrate my birthday. We opted for the family style dining. When I made the reservation, the manager Edward advised me about the dining options. Since they use only the freshest ingredients, we didn't know what would be on the menu until that day. I love suprises. I told him about some of my guests dining restrictions and what I didn't like to eat. We ate in the private dining room. I didn't know that even existed!! The dining room had a classic modern style to it with bottles of wines that were locked up. Too bad I couldn't help myself to it. A server was assigned to our table for the entire evening. Basically it was a four course menu with several selections in each course. Higlights of the meal: 1) soup of pumpkin, porcini & chestnuts - very rich and tasty. had the right consistency, could really taste each of the mentioned ingredients. surprisingly it wasn't too sweet since it used pumpkin & chestnuts. a very autumn soup!! 2)fritto misto of artichokes - not greasy at all, artichokes are nice & fresh, not mushy 3)tagliatelle w/slow cooked sausage ragu - I like pastas that aren't overloaded with sauces. however we had problem taking pasta from the serving bowl to the plate because the pasta were so long. overall it was tasty and sausage had a homey feeling to it 4)roast suckling pork roasting juices - sounds simply but very delicious. the skin was crispy and the meat had intense flavour. I guess this is what you get from organic meat in the Fraser Valley. Oh sooo-yummy. It even tasted that good when I ate it two days later!! Overall, Cibo offered me a wonderful and memorable dining experience. Great food, great ambience, and great service!! read more

I'm currently eating my leftover fresh pasta with venison bolognese and chanterelles. Not the most conventional breakfast, perhaps, but almost as good as it was last night. Cibo was exactly what we were hoping for on a cool, dark, rainy Vancouver evening: a cozy place with comfort-but-not-heavy food, good vegetarian options, and some nice red wine. We'll be back. My husband is vegetarian. He had multiple options. Unless you count a we'll-make-it-bigger salad, there are surprisingly few Vancouver restaurants where he has choices. Even better, they weren't all cream and/or egg-based. He actively enjoyed both his starting salad and kuri squash ravioli. I had the broth before the pasta. The soup was what I was hoping for: with a parmesan base that was nicely balanced by garlic and wild onion and other flavours, it felt rich without being heavy. I'd prefer something a little less spicy, and would have appreciated it had the menu prepared me for that. I tend to order 1 star at thai restaurants, though, so my personal scale is very sensitive. The wine selection includes many expensive bottles, but if you want a more modestly priced drink you can find it. We had one of the more obscure wines I happen to be familiar with, one of the cheaper bottles (by their scale), and it did the job well. It makes me want to check out their other "Adventure" wines and suggests their other less expensive wines may also be well-chosen. While we didn't order cocktails, they come from Uva and the Uva bartenders are great. read more

Beautiful room, exquisite food & warm service. Yup, I'm a fan. I love this restaurant & it's sister bar UVA. It is always elegant, yet relaxed, high end but not pretentious & they are serious about their food but never frivolous. We went for an early Valentine's dinner on a quiet Tuesday night, starting with cocktails: a Earl Grey martini & Jim Green which were both unique & delicious. The restaurant was quiet but allowed for a relaxed, familiar rapport with our fantastic server, Ken. The burrata came highly recommended so we started with a half order. It was one of the most delicious, creamy, lightly oiled & slightly salted with picked peppers. This was my date's first encounter with this famous cheese - flown in weekly from Italy - he was thoroughly enamoured. Our mains were equally spectacular - the Pacific cod was perfectly flaky and simply seasoned over a bed of bok choy while my date opted for the grilled steak & fresh greens. We were far too full for dessert, but the panna cotta was tempting. My only complaint is that the wine list, though impressive, is too expensive. We chose a very good value Valpolicella, but most of the wines were in the stratospheric range. I would love to see more week day value on the wine list, and make it more approachable for those not as familiar with the Italian wine. read more

Food was good however very overpriced for such small portions. Service was average. The male server was arrogant and made several poor taste jokes. He also lied on the spot about charges on the bill. HUNGER MAN was is a decent mood and also on a hot date so he didn't want to blow up the spot. Waited for 1hr and 15 mins to get the main course. Would never recommend this place nor ever go back. There are so many better Italian restaurants out there. HUNGER MAN likes good service especially in a fine dining restaurants. That was not the case here. The food and wine here were outstanding. A great deal of thought went into the menu and we were delighted. I would highly recommend checking this place out. I had a risotto which was cooked to perfection and my partner had a clam linguine with excellent flavour. There was only one, truly unfortunate thing, that made this experience less than perfect: our server was the only person in staff and was attending to the entire dining room. The size of this place warrants at a minimum, two servers and a host. Our server did her best to help everyone at once the best she could but I felt terrible that she was in that position. read more

I know, offal is not everyone's cup of tea (forgive the pun), but even for those, who like a more sanitized version of italian food, this will be a good choice. All food is organic and the ethos is that of the 'slow food' movement.... this has nothing to do with slow service, which is anything but, very attentive and swift indeed. But those, who like offal, they will find a choice of at least five, six dishes, under the heading: odd bits. And Tuesday's they go: Head-to-Tail. An event that I sadly missed, as I was only in Vancouver for six nights. I really should have frequented the place every single night (apart from the Monday, when the Restaurant is closed). This is my first time coming to this play for a b-day party. I didn't know they had an elegant private room for parties. The waiters were attentive and impecably attired. Every food was divine, from the pumpkin soup to the fritto misto of artichokes, to the ravioli of rainbow chard to the cioppino. Not to mention the dessert platters which were heavenly decedant. Although the price is on the high side, it is worth coming too. read more

First visit was marred by having taken our reservations then revealing at the last minute that the restaurant was closed for a special event. So, we had to eat in the bar. Food was great, service excellent. Thought I'd found my new neighbourhood spot. Second trip, the worst dinner in recent memory, years. No one met us at the door. The hostess and waiter were too busy having a tête à tête around the corner from the dining room, behind the fireplace. After a full four minutes she came back out to the restaurant. Slowly sidled up to us like she hadn't had a care in the world but for us bothering her. Her apathy was not what one would pay for in a Hostess I think. The appetizer risotto balls that were excellent the week before came out of two same size balls and 1/2 the size. They tasted like they were left over from the week before. My friend had the fish and said it was good. I had the carbonara again. The week before it was light and Airy and delicate and we raved about how exceptional it was. The carbonara I had the second time was lukewarm and a gummy pile overwhelmed with I swear at least 20 half inch cubes of bacon. In fact all the meals came lukewarm. What's the prize me since there were only a table for six and a deuce when we arrived. The waiter never brought pepper to be ground. After waiting for a couple of minutes I actually walked up to the bar hoping that I would be able to find them behind the fireplace again. By the time he came out I could have gone to the bar and gone back to my table and round the pepper and returned it 3 or 4 times over. When I saw him I explained that I was just looking for ground pepper. He switched me away and said in a minute. He wasn't doing anything else. He wasn't picking up or delivering food. When he bought a map set of stainless Grinders I explained that I would like a large pepper grind from a large pepper grinder. He huffed off to the bar to get it and returned to grind much finer pepper than I had asked for. When I was looking for a glass of wine he had no comprehension of what the bar liquor list was. First of all I ordered a cosmo which came in a tiny American champagne glass. A comprehensive Bar menu and no martini glasses? At the end of the day I can understand that the kitchen could have an off-day. But the hostess and the waiter that day and the hostess it took my original reservation that sent us to the bar were beyond apathetic. When I am in a restaurant that probably seats 50 and there's only 9 of us in the restaurant I expect to get at least some decent service. Did not happen. Unfortunately, this will not become my new neighborhood spot. And I wouldn't recommend it to anybody at this point because the food and service is so uneven. My mom and my brother were with me and we were in the mood to just share everything so we ordered about two dishes from each section. Started with the local pickled herring salad and the crispy pig's head terrine. Both were good, not outstanding. Pastas, we ordered the squash ravioli in a chili lemon butter sauce and the gnocchi's with walnuts and gorgonzola - both were outstanding. Entree's were scallops with cauliflower (the scallops were good but I've had much better for $25). but the cauliflower was oven roasted to perfection. Skirt steak was a little tough and I wouldn't recommend it. Sides were a complete failure: crispy polenta dusted with dried oregano flakes was over powering to the point that it made the polenta fragrant, but bitter. The mustard green we ordered would have been delicious if they didn't top off the dish with panko breadcrumbs which created the texture of grit in my green which I hate. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely. The service was outstanding but definitely stick to the pastas. One last thing - portions are small. Each plate was the size of my palm (salad plate size) and average dish price was $10-14. We walked out of there inclusive of tax and top for $176 (includes three drinks). read more

I wanted to like this place because we enjoyed the service and the overall ambiance of the place. Unfortunately the food just wasn't very good and it's difficult for me to give anything over 2 stars when I go out and pay significant money for a meal that tastes subpar. I ordered the prix fixe menu which was a salad, a ling-cod dish, and a flour-less chocolate cake. The salad was relatively OK, albeit a bit dull. The cod was extremely salty, as were the greens it sat over. Most of the people in my party all commented on over-salting on at least one dish in their meal. I enjoyed the flour-less chocolate cake and the accompanying creme fraiche. Again, I really wanted to like this place. The manager selected a great BC wine for us and was attentive and friendly. Our server was also friendly and attentive. But I just can't go higher than 2 stars with the food falling short. read more

Service? Great. It's exactly what I'd expect at a joint like this; professional, knowledgeable, and just attentive enough. The menu is expansive without being overwhelming but not so big that the food isn't fresh. It is. Very. And there are some crazy things on it you may or may not be bold enough to try. All in all the food was quite good though I did have a couple of things to pick apart. I ordered the roasted chicken with garlic aioli... It wasn't roasted, in fact, it seemed like panfried dark meat chicken or squab. It was decent, but not what I was expecting and it was plated quite poorly. My bf had the veal which, on the other hand looked beautiful and I don't even eat red meat. He said it was fantastic. The potatoes had a lot of mint... Not the pesto I was expecting. But they were ok. The berries were fresh but they were chincy with the mascarpone.... What was there tasted divine, though. I would try a different main course next time, but the risotto and zucchini flowers are truly delicious. read more

It was time for our obligatory fancy dinner date while on vacation. The Moda hotel has a few establishments on the first floor, including this establishment. At the time, I was battling a cold. Nevertheless, we dressed our fanciest and walked inside. Our waitress seated us a short while later. The service was the highlight of our visit. She recommended what became my wife's favorite wine (We literally could not leave the country until we bought two more bottles) and some green chartreuse for me (PROTIP: I don't know if she was messing with me, but that shit'll clean you right out). The restaurant wasn't particularly busy that night, so she spent a good chunk of the night interacting with us. My wife ordered the skirt steak, and I got the chicken. The portion size left a bit to be desired considering the price tag, but it tasted great. Cibo puts a lot of stock into the presentation of their food, which is strange, because their lighting is kept lower and more intimate. If you're staying in the Moda hotel, Cibo is a nice, convenient option for a fancy dinner. read more

What a joke! They were promoting a special Mushroom "Event". So my friends called the restaurant to confirm that they were offering the mushroom special dinner, they were told "absolutely". Reservations made we arrived on time only to be informed by the server that the chef did not have all the items to be able to offer the special event dinner. Although the chalkboard outside was still promoting it. We went along with the flow and the dinner was adequate. With only two servers in the entire restaurant on a Sunday night, the servers while polite, were quite overwhelmed. The real kicker was when we ordered a pistachio gelato. Fifteen minutes after placing the order the gelato had not arrived so we flagged the server to ask her and she said they had to go to their "other restaurant" to get the gelato since their fridge is small. From five dessert items on the menu, how can they not have one of the mainstays (the only ice cream on the menu) not in stock. My guess is that they sent someone to Nesters to purchase it! So the promotion was non-existent, the food was average, the service was marginal at best and the final straw was the lack of a dessert. Furthermore, the staff made no attempt to console us. There was no offer to get us another dessert on the house, or a cup of coffee on the house - Nothing! Not sure I would recommend this place to anyone. Definitely not going back again. They need to fire the GM and get a new one who knows what he is doing. read more

A small cozy trattoria, great decor and friendly staff make this place an enjoyable dining experience. Their menu changes daily as everything is locally sourced. Started the dinner off with a great choice in red wine: Gaja carmacanda promis 2008 Italy - leather and prunes on the nose, earthy with a peppery finish ....v good! Misticanza - salad of wild foraged leaves and herbs, toasted hazelnuts and ricotta - fresh and clean. Ricotta adds a creaminess and the roasted hazelnuts ties it all together for a warm finish. - tangy dressing :) Black pepper potato gnocchi, wild boar slow cooked with red wine and tomato, ricotta Zapata - smooth, almost melt in your mouth gnocchi - I like the pepper, gives the dish a real pop - delicious wild boar done in red wine & tomato sauce...not gamey at all! -used the herbed focaccia to soak up the rest of the sauce, it was that good. - pairs well with the wine Grilled free-run veal, new potatoes, mustard greens, anchovy and rosemary sauce - veal was grilled to perfection, rosemary in the sauce brings an earthiness to pare down the tanginess of the anchovies, mustard greens add just enough of a bitter bite. When deciding between the halibut or trout, we leaned on our server's strong recommendation for the "Roasted Halibut" made with spinach, radishes, and ramp aioli. He was right when he likened it to bass, and assured us it was the more stunning of the two in presentation. My first bite was a little crispy from the end of the fish, it flaked off easily and tasted like butter. The aioli and vegetables were the perfect pairing, as gentle and mild as the halibut. I am not a big fan of fish but I would order this again. Though had I not shared it and the cost, $33 is a little steep for this dish. We were hankering for a little sweet after all that savory, but their dessert menu was the traditional Italian fare, and today the likes of tiramisu just didn't cut it. Would I come back? - Yes, considering this is my third visit. I would consider this a pretty solid go to for fine Italian dining. The service was impeccable, enough that I took the time to fill out a comment card to recognize our sever. He single handedly took care of the front house, (Not that there were any other customers to attend to). And he knew the nuances of when to approach, when to fall back, and when to engage in light hearted conversation. Would I recommend it? Yes. I enjoyed all that I had, and the menu had something for all those folks with dietary restrictions. It is easy to get to, with ample meter parking in front of and to the side. And if all Sundays were like today, the restaurant was quite and you were truly made to feel like the "only guests in the house". Don't deny your cravings. read more

Hit and miss with the orders and service wasn't really what I expected for the price category. I ordered the Octopus for starter, 'Spaghetti alla Vongole' as first, the duck for second, ad finally the tiramisu for desert. The octopus was underwhelming at best. The spaghetti was great. The duck was the highlight, perfectly cooked. The desert was also better than I expected. The main problem was the service. Ambiance and service are great however the food is really just meh. We had a prix fixe meal as part of a group event so I'm certainly taking into consideration the fact that each course was prepared in large quantities. Had the salad - my vegetarian friend said that the quality of the salad was very good. To me, the dressing was not "present". I could feel the oil but not the flavour of it. The gnocchi was nicely sauced in a Gorgonzola cream with chunks of roasted chestnut mixed in. Portion was small Sent back the rib steak to be warmed up, they brought me a new one but it was also lukewarm. The side of kale was limp and not tasty. My partner had the sea bass which he said was okay. Again, the service is wonderful, they addressed the needs quickly but not completely to my satisfaction.
