We actually had a Groupon deal for this restaurant, so we went here for supper while we were in town. What a great find! The pictures of the meals looked like generous portions, so we skipped appetizers and salads, although many of them looked great, too. They brought some bread with tomato bruschetta sauce to whet our appetites. For the meal, I ordered the pollo al toscana and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The sauce was unique and very full of flavor, with spinach throughout. The chicken was tender. The veggie medley of squashes, peppers, and broccoli was just barely warmed, so it was delightfully crunchy and fresh. A little bit of spaghetti rounded out the dish. My husband got the pollo al marsala and also had nothing but good to say about every bite! Our server was an energetic Italian who took care of our every need. The restaurant was partly open, and had several spots outdoors, which is where we chose to sit, since it was a lovely evening. Our table was ready at the set time and our server(s) attended to us immediately. We were given bread and tomato salsa - the bread was pretty bland and meh. I ordered the eggplant - the dish was flavorful and delicious. Most everyone enjoyed there food - penne with vodka sauce, cioppino, and spaghetti bolognese. One order was wrong and had to be sent back. We then waited, but it didn't arrive until the others had almost finished eating. This place was recommended by a couple of friends who enjoy a good happy hour. It's located directly across the street from the bridal salon (Posh Brides), where my daughter was trying on gowns...so this was the perfect option. We arrived at 4pm and was able to grab the one large high top in the bar. HH is only served at the bar or at one of two tables located adjacent to the bar. No HH service on the patio or in the front dining area. We ordered a few things on the HH menu for our group of 5 to sample and it was all spectacular! Bruschetta, meatballs, pepperoni pizza, artichoke stuffed with parmigiano, topped with melted mozzarella and shrimp (my personal favorite!), and penne with marinara. Our gluten free gal had their GF pizza from the regular menu and she gave it rave reviews. Plus we enjoyed several alcohol options including draft beer (x3), house cab (x2) house pinot grigio (x2) and a peach martini. Service from Nick was prompt and attentive! Will definitely make this a regular HH stop. Note: Be aware of 3% credit card charge, no fee if paying cash. I was totally ok with this but I know some people would be annoyed. Our family love eating here, whenever we're in Carlsbad; we bring our friends and family here. We always get pappardelle pasta, bucket of meatballs, surf & turf, and risotto ai funghi porcini. However, the last time we ate here, the lobster in my wife's surf & turf had a bad smell, so she didn't eat it and put it aside. We didn't say anything because we were being treated by her cousin, and we didn't want her cousin to feel bad. Why still give 4 stars? Well...out of countless of great meals here, we only had 1 bad experience and, if we did say something, I'm sure the server would have made it right for us. I wouldn't call it authentic Italian, but if you like American-style Italian food then you'll probably be happy here. This is a chicken alfredo and a spaghetti-meatballs kind of a place, not that there is anything wrong with that. However, if you're hoping for the kind of meal you would actually have in Italy, then you might want to look somewhere else. It's great that they give you complimentary bread before the meal, however to me it tasted like regular white bread, and it did not come with olive oil. The salmon ($42) is submerged under a gooey sauce of lemon/artichoke/capers, which generally works for chicken, but not for this. It came with a side of spaghetti noodles and a big stalk of broccoli and some squash. I guarantee you will never see this meal anywhere in Italy. Two entrées, two glasses of the cheapest wine, and one dessert to share will run you about $80-90 before tip. read more

I gave this place a 4/5. I took away a star because I truly felt what they offer doesn't warrant the price point of their menu . I had a martini , cioppino added a lobster tail, tiramisu, took home a cannoli and my total bill came to $167 for one person. They added lobster tail was market price which turned out to be $25 The cioppino broth was delicious. However, I found all the elements of the fish shrimp calamari scallops to be somewhat of an offputting texture. . The tiramisu was delicious . The cannoli was OK at best . There was a server in the dining room that was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, doing a pretty decent job, but it still took time to get his attention and the ticket time in my opinion was a little long. I had asked for a cup of coffee with my tiramisu , I turned to a gentleman who was busting a table next to me, I asked him if he could get me the cup of coffee he told me directly no ask your server that's his job. I would think that a customer service talks busting a table for a couple minutes . I really want to give this a lower score so that it triggers leadership to take a look at it because I think sometimes they don't look at these if they are four and five stars . I don't think I necessarily would seek out this place again simply because of the other server best person's attitude , the ticket time and the price point. read more

Two words - Espresso Martini! This place has the best espresso martinis in Carlsbad. They are perfectly balanced in texture, appearance, and taste! Great as an after dinner drink or pre-meal cocktail. Pairs great with their antipasto platter, if pre-meal! Speaking of pre-meal, two of my fave appetizers were the carpaccio and the pizza with cream sauce, Gorgonzola, and red onion. Another was the artichoke hearts in garlic oil sauce - you just get bread on the side to take in all the sauce - delicious! I am still working toward tasting everything on the menu, but so far no complaints! Also, the service is great! - staff is attentive and efficient. The food is delicious. We had for starters "2 polpette &ricotta" , it was very tasty, and tender, they can be addicting. I ordered "Filet Mignon", It was cooked perfectly and it came with Gorgonzola cream served over it! It won me over, from my old restaurant favorite to this restaurant! For the starch it came with Gnocchi (potato dumplings) in a green pesto sauce , with a touch of cream; soooo yummy, I could see myself ordering a plate of just this next time. And it also came with a side of fresh lightly grilled veggies. I had one of the martinis, it was sooooo good. I only needed one, they know how to make 'em! My friend, ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo pasta with chicken added. I tried it, and it was Devine; can't go wrong with fettuccine Alfredo. Everything was really great. I mistakenly posted this review for a different Cicciotti's. However, If they are from the same family you shouldn't have any problems going to all of them. However THIS CICCIOTTI'S at 595 GRAND AVE., CARLSBAD has CIBO DELIZIOSO (delicious food) and PERSONALE PIU GENTILE (friendliest Staff) I agree with the reviews that say "If I could give it a 6, I would!" This was our first time at Cicciotti's. My date and I reserved a table for 6:00pm not knowing if we needed one or not at this time and I'm glad we did! (got a great table!) Eduardo and Fabi are a great team. They know what the other needs and run the restaurant like a beautiful symphony. Both greeted us with that Italian warmth you feel when you're in Tuscany. As for the food. I wished I had thought to take a picture of the appetizer we chose- Antipasto Italiano ( A plate full of different cheeses, prosciutto di Parma and other delicious delinquencies. but the olives were missing..) We had a great bottle of their house Chianti (Colle Nero) and after seeing the huge portions of food, we decided to share a house special "Cioppino Lobster" which is subject to availability. Most likely because it was so delicious I wanted to lick the bowl. Fabi and Eduardo continue to work the room making sure everyone was happy and served well. There was a great musician (piano) and singer to entertain all while we enjoyed our dinner. We were going to try a dessert but I couldn't put anymore into my stomach. This place was outstanding! No reservation needed, we were able to be sat as soon as we arrived on a weekday night. It's a pretty small and cozy place, with outdoor seating as well. The menu is very large, and can accommodate all tastes. We were immediately brought over complimentary bread and this tomato sauce that tasted like the topping of bruschetta and it was incredible! The flavors were really great. My friend and I also ordered a bottle of wine and the caprese to start with, both were excellent choices. Service was 5 stars all the way. Fantastic service. For dinner I ordered the eggplant parmigiana which was one of the best I've ever had. It was cooked so well with amazing flavor and the spaghetti that came with it also was incredible. The food was so good! I had the Pappardelle special and Oysters. The oysters were fresh and delicious with or without their sauce. The Pappardelle special was sooo good. Definitely worth the price! I personally am picky with lobster, and it was okay but the scallops were so melty and the shrimp were so juicy... Too delicious! My hubby and I went to Cicciotti's for the first time for our 38th Anniversary yesterday and were very disappointed! We arrived at 3:45 for our reservation and were the only ones in the restaurant, other than the bar area and it took quite a while to get our waiter's attention to take our order and longer for our food to arrive. We started with an appetizer of artichokes which was ok but the bread served on the side was horrible and tomato sauce served cold. Hubby got a calzone and it was terrible, the sauce tasted like a can of diced tomatoes, no flavor and watery and the crust was no better. I got the ziti with seafood which was just ok, scallops were pea sized, meal was certainly not worth over$100, will never go back! read more

I have had my share of delicious mussels and clams in wine sauce in the past, this particular oder however did not live to my expectations. Few of the mussels and clams were closed which of course I discarded. The wine sauce had more garlic and salt than anything but the side of bread curved that flavor a bit. ( Bread was amazing- had a fresh out of the oven taste!) On to the Linguine ai Due Golfi. This plate delivered what I was hoping for...An authentic Italian seafood dish. Flavors of the shrimp and crab combined with a small torso of linguine was delish. Garlic in wine sauce wasn't overwhelming, flavor was well balanced. The delivery service was great. All our orders came in hot and delivered well within time frame. I would have given 5 stars but the Bordetto just fell short for me. read more

As locals, we have been here on previous occasions and it was a great experience. We left the area for 3yrs and relocated back, so of course we wanted to go back for a meal. I wish we hadn't. While I can't say for certain, I'm fairly sure my pasta was microwaved or at the very least not properly prepared. I've never once in my life used table salt at a restaurant--until today. They just opened as we dined and the bathroom trash can was overflowing and there was dust on fixtures, the menus were dirty... they need a deep clean of the entire restaurant.
