This review is for Luie. Went into Cielo for the first time on Friday, for a conditioning treatment and blowout, and left a happy girl! Luie was so warm and welcoming, making me immediately feel comfortable. In fact, everyone at the salon was friendly and gave off a nice vibe. I've been in a lot of snobby salons and this wasn't one of those. There was virtually no wait time and my appointment started and ended on schedule. Luie took his time through the appointment and made sure to thoroughly blow dry my hair. Due to having long and thick hair, a lot of stylists lose patience and do a half-hearted job. He stuck with me until it was done and complimented me on my long hair, rather than making me feel bad how much work it was. The salon is cute, well-decorated, and cozy. Definitely living up to the boutique name. Although I'm not positive, I believe I was initially welcomed by the owner, who was also a total sweetheart. I haven't even had service at this place yet and i'm already incredibly irritated. I purchased a Formosi voucher (which, after reading other reviews I now realize was a fatal flaw) from a woman in Target who asked me if I was a model and when I told her yes she said she would cut me a deal on the voucher to share my experience on social media. Come to find out EVERYONE pays 65 bucks for the voucher ha. This was three months ago and I've been calling, emailing since then trying to book an appointment and no one has ever gotten back to me. Finally last week I went in and asked to schedule and the woman at the front was extremely rude to me. she asked why i had on so much makeup (i just returned from an estée lauder video shoot-sue me for having on makeup) and then said i needed to call to book the appointment. I told her I had been trying to call for three months and not only did no one ever answer but no one returned my messages... (why does your voicemail say "we will get back to you promptly? in WHAT WORLD!!) She then told me to "just keep trying" because someone should answer. I...i don't even understand how this place is still in business?? Like i was able to book all of my LA Laser services (also on the formosi voucher) the same day and everything was great. Anyway. I literally never leave negative reviews or negativity anywhere but this is more of a warning to those of you debating coming to Cielo. So, there I was...just browsing around my local Kohls store when I'm approached by a woman selling Formosi packages for a $65 holdiay special. I NEVER buy these type of things, but she caught me at the right time. I hadn't had a hair cut, facial, or spa treatment in over 9 months due to being pregnant and I desperately needed all of the above. Sound to good to be true? Yes. I took a chance and bought it on the spot. I called CIELO and scheduled my cut. Christina did a great job! I didn't have to wait as I scheduled as one of their first clients at opening. I was offered a beverage. I just wanted to freshen up my current cut and keep my bangs and layers long. She listened perfectly. She was friendly and laid back. The whole shop was in good spirit. I will definitely be back to get my brow treatments and other deep conditioning treatment. May also throw in the additional highlights. Lord knows Mama needs it! Parking: Can be a pain if not a weekday or early morning. Pay meters so you only have 2 hours. Don't get a ticket! read more

I was cornered at Whole Foods six months ago by this blonde girl to sign up for a Cielo Spabro package: Shimmer & Shine (Conditioning treatment) and Head Turning Hair (shampoo, haircut, blowout & style) for $60...good for 6 months. She was good cause she knew exactly whom to target...and I was such a sucka. She had a wad of certificates in her hand and got a lot of unsuspecting customers there to sign up on that same day! I actually waited up to 6 months prior to booking an appt. with Cielo., couldn't let that expire on me. First off, parking was a nightmare...understandably it was located near Manhattan Beach. I walked in and was greeted by a nice gentleman and offered me water, coffee or tea. I sat down and waited...the place is very nice (chic & luxurious). I was greeted by Catherine (my new hairdresser). She was very patient with me since I was so particular with the style of the cut I wanted. She made her own recommendation and I went with it....and extremely satisfied. She didn't push me to buy their products however I pushed her to recommend the product she used on me (which was moroccan oil). That stuff is amazing! I actually came back again a few weeks later for the conditioning treatment which I couldn't do the first time. Again I am completely satisfied....so much that I made another appt. for a brazilian blowout next month. I just feel bad I'm actually cheating on my previous hairdresser :-( read more

I started off wanting black on the top and gray blended toward the bottom . The end result nearly 800 $ down the drain and nowhere near my goal. The stylist said it could be done. Why tell a customer that you can reach their goal and 4 sessions later be nowhere near their vision ....I would not recommend this place to anyone they damaged my hair and I waisted a lot of money. I want my money back it was a rip off I honestly never bleached my hair before i went in for a total of 4 Sessions and paid almost 200 dollars each session to get this on my hair disappointing... It was my second time at Cielo today. Its tiny, but so cute. Everyone is very friendly. The receptionist kept bringing me magazines to read, and a cup of tea. Octavio was great. Very complimentary, but still gave me his honest opinion. There isn't a lot of parking, so give yourself a couple extra minutes before your appointment. Its good the meters in Manhattan Beach take quarters and credit cards now. I never have change. read more

I'm def not high maintenance and haven't cut my hair in more than 4 years. I colored it myself from a box. I guess that's what happens when you have a baby, everyone else becomes more important. So I was out of the loop for who to go to or where; so I posted a request in my neighborhood email group and Nikki at Cielo came to me as a recommendation. After "yelping' her, I gave her a chance. And I am soooo happy I did. The boutique is super cute and the staff were very nice. Parking was ample but you need to pay for it; but where in LA is it free? I came in prepared to do a full makeover. I gave Nikki a pic of "Gone Girl" and said, go for it. She proceeded and cut off a braided pony tail 14" to donate, then an added 3" for styling. I gave her full reign for length and color. I wanted to darken it up more towards my natural blonde verses bright blonde. I walked away a new person and strangers approach me asking me where I got it done and they love it. My husband really loves it too. So all together a score! I have bone straight hair so it is a wash and wear style but if I want to add a little volume just blow dry it (which now takes 5 min vs 20). read more

I truly never thought I'd write a review for a hair salon =0) but after the experience I recently had, there's no way I don't write what you're about to read! So in my life I'd never had a hair cut at a salon, and only a handful of times at a barber. As a youngster, my mom, who was quite adept at cutting hair would do mine twice a month. When I was finally old enough to drive she said she'd had enough of this slave labor I was subjecting her to and told me I could either drive to a barber or she'd teach me to do it myself. I opted for the latter. Using buzzers I did a good job for a solid 20 years, thinking I was pretty cool for cutting my own hair, problem is that I was stuck with a 16 year old's haircut all that time. Fast forward to last month. I had been experimenting with growing my hair out long but finally had enough, it might have been my wife making fun of my natural middle part (think Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World) or the inconvenience of long hair. I could have cut it myself again, but this was an opportunity to do something different. I work nearby Cielo (for that matter about 19 other salons) and they were one of the few in the area who weren't charging two arms and both legs for a men's haircut. I really lucked out by getting Nikki, the owner... I tried to impress by saying I usually cut my own hair and of course that struck up a natural conversation about her craft. She was working on a couple of us simultaneously and cruising around the salon like she was on roller skates. Truly impressive because each person got as much care and attention as humanly possible. I asked, and some stylists had recently quit, so that's not the norm, although she handled it like wonder woman. Anyway, back to me, and the reason I felt compelled to write the review.... Nikki asked me if I'd like some pointers on cutting hair since I'd been doing it myself all this time. She literally gave me a lesson on the spot, answering my questions, showing me shearing technique, etc. She was basically teaching her way out gaining a new client, but I couldn't let that become true so I've been back since and now my wife goes here as well! She has equally amazing things to say about the service. The ambiance is great, and as far as salons go, which admittedly, I'm no expert, Cielo is awesome. I was very apprehensive after reading the reviews about the Formosi package. From starts to finish my experience was pleasant. I had no issues booking and i was called for confirmation a few days before. My stylist was Jennifer and she delivered exactly what I wanted. I also opted to get color and it was perfect. The only issue I had was with another stylist. I don't know her name but a conversation occurred and I felt she was a tad rude and i acknowledged my feelings with Jennifer. She respectfully apologized but I just think that stylist is just immature. I will be returning to finish out the other services in my package. read more

Do not buy the Formosi package you will be disappointed like everyone else who bought it. The salon is not nice at all. It is very tiny and outdid. The chairs are all stained and dirty. The sink where they wash your hair is extremely uncomfortable and hurt my neck. I don't remember the name of my stylist but she was very rough while working with my hair. The haircut I got was valued at about $120 but was just a wash and trim. Nothing special. Probably worth $30. I felt obligated to tip on the original price but it only deserved a tip of a few bucks. read more

Patricia was amazing and customer service was great. Without the package the price range is out of my range but maybe I'll change my mind but I had a great time. Parking is street Parking only. This has got to be the worst salon service I have ever experienced. I was aggressively approached by a lady selling a Formosi package to this salon, and she convinced me to just give it a try. I thought, Manhattan Beach, what could go wrong? Boy was I wrong. From the time I walked into the salon to when everything was finished, it took a total of 30 min. I'm not even exaggerating. The service I went in was supposed to include a shampoo, a head massage, a conditioning treatment, a hair cut and a blow out. The only thing I got was a shampoo, as the cut was nothing more than a trim and everything else was not delivered at all. I think this may have been a ploy to get a $20 tip on a $30 service since the package was valued at over $100. I was assigned to Nikki but for some reason they switched my stylist to Patricia (I don't know if this was because I bought a pre-existing package), but she rushed through everything. No conditioning treatment, no head massage, and she kept stabbing my head with her 1-inch long clawed nails as she was frantically rushing through my service. I told her that my hair was a little fried and I wanted to get rid of the split ends. She said she would take off an inch and a half and refresh my layers. She ended up only taking maybe an inch off of the base layer, and instead of cutting my other layers, she picked at them with a pair of shears vertically so that the ends were all uneven and only pieces were cut. I've watched a real stylist do my hair enough times to know that this is NOT how it's done. What's worse, my hair is still fried, and with no heat protectant or anything, she starts curling my hair with a 3/4 inch iron. HELLO??? where is the blow out?? Maybe she was trying to hide the uneven layers? Long story short, I ended up with looking like I was ready to go to an 80s prom, and she was going to let me walk out of there like so but I requested some anti-frizz cream, which really didn't help too much. When the girl who checked me out at the front, Natalie, asked how my service is, I mentioned that it felt rushed and instead of trying to make it right, she said, well that depends on the person and tried to tell me how amazing my hair looks. I can read people well and can easily spot insincerity. When I got home, I discovered hair dye on the back of my sweater because Patricia did not put a towel around my shoulders while she was washing my hair. Great, just the icing on the cake. I am really going to try to see if I can return my package because I am afraid to come back to this place. read more

That Cielo has such great reviews is mind-blowing to me. There is a total lack of the "Be All that You Can Be" in the quality of the hair service here, at least in my experiences. I have been here multiple times, as a I bought 2 SpaBro packages that allowed me to enjoy 4 very inexpensive services. But I guess I get what I paid for. - 1 Star - Male receptionist. I don't know if he is there all the time or even anymore, but he was always so snooty to me. I know that I am not a rich Manhattan Beach wife, but please be polite. Not supercilious, actually genuinely pleasant. + 1 Star - Female receptionist. Sweet gal. Tries hard. - Many Many Stars - Male stylist, I think his name is Octavio (?) was an arrogant, incompetent jerk. I cannot bitch enough about the cut he gave me. And his attitude was so poor that I felt intimidated and humiliated through my cut experience. It was so bad, and I was so unhappy, that when I came back for my Shine treatment, the front desk girl realized that she had booked me with him (um, helllllooooo? I told you last time that I hated his attitude and treatment of me - and my cut!) and quickly re-booked me immediately with someone else. - 1 Star - Parking. Parking is a nightmare. You will have to park at some meter somewhere and keep feeding it (though you can use your credit card) as the time limit is 2 hours. - 1 Star - Call back procedure. I left 4 messages - yes, 4 messages, to book my shimmer and shine (the 2nd treatment). It should not have required that many calls to get a call back. + 1 Star - Cute Salon. The salon its-self is nice inside. - 1 Star - Tiny salon. There are 4 stations crammed in here, and if you come on a busy day, you might get claustrophobic. - 1 Star - Beverages.They'll offer you coffee, tea and water. Meh. + 1 Star - Female stylist, I think her name was Kim? She was new - from New York originally. But she was not there the next time I went back. Which was too bad, as she actually was good. Note: The color and stylist who I went to on the first trip, named Kelli, ended up just down the street at a place called the Loft. I wish she would have called and told me but apparently she's not allowed to do that (??!!!). I just happened to run into her on the street and was so happy to see her! She didn't say anything bad about Cielo, just that she had a new opportunity and she took it. I asked her where she was and she told me the Loft, so now I go there to her. Happy Ending! Again, everyone's experiences are different, and they depend on the stylist. The seemingly revolving door here at Cielo makes me uncomfortable. Also, having a nightmare experience with one stylist sours this place for me for life. I won't be back, even with another certificate. It's not worth the risk of hating my hair for 6 weeks. read more

Girl working on me seemed as if she was unhappy and did not enjoy what she is doing, antagonistic. Left my hair looking & feeling worse. I agree completely with the other review and wish I had read it and not bought the deal. After the first experience, I gave a good tip and hoped I would recieve better treatment the following appointment. The next appointment, there was no scalp massage, my hair was not thouroughly washed and I felt no deep conditioning. The same person took care of me and still never smiled. Three and a half stars. I'm another one of those SpaBro suckas but the timing was actually good. After my stylist of several years left, I've been looking for a new one ever since. So I thought, $60 bucks for a $125 treatment wasn't a bad deal. The first thing I noticed was how tiny the salon was. The decor totally played up on its name as everything was white and frilly. The receptionist desk was a bit jammed but another girl walked up to help me. She turned out to be my stylist. I was glad that someone was able to help instead of me just standing there. I simply asked my stylist for something different & to keep the length. She was very friendly and personable the whole time which I appreciated. The cut came out beautifully. I was very happy with it. I have a regular stylist in Torrance but I know I can go here to treat myself every now& again. If I had to judge based on solely the stylist, this would get a 5. The male receptionist at the end did offer me products but didn't push me to get them. What I found a little unsettling was he already booked an appt for me. I bought a Formosi package (it seems from the reviews that most unsuspecting people first come here though that sales channel, probably should have done my homework and read the reviews first). I wanted to get what I already paid for, the hair cut and style, but they kept upselling me on a color service. Fine, so I get the higher priced color service (highlight), then they wanted to upcharge me for even higher priced ombré which I did not ask for nor want. It did not turn out well and made my hair so dry. There are some nice associates working there, it's a hit or miss. There are not much parking options available. Andrea is a doll and really transformed my lashes and brows. I get compliments all of the time. The same goes for Octavio where my hair actually makes me happy. The only reason I visited this salon is that I got a promotional voucher which sounded like a good deal. The lady that did my hair was not very friendly, didnt even tell me her name considering its my first time there. I asked her opinion as a stylist aboit the cut that I wanted but she doesnt seem to be interested enough to tell me her view. Its almost like she is scared to get blamed it if my hair didnt turn out great. The whole place left a bad impression. I was approached by a women a few weeks ago while shopping about a promotion a local salon and med spa were doing (the promotion company was called Formosi).  I just moved here and didn't really know where to go for a much-needed haircut, so I figured this was a good way to try a new location and I purchased it. I called and scheduled an appointment for the following week (I don't know why there's a review about people not answering the phone....I got through the first try). When I arrived I was greeted warmly by the front desk, and the owner even introduced herself (so sweet!) and offered me a coffee or water. My appointment started on time with my stylist Luis, who was a great listener and did exactly what I wanted - clean up the ends and put some life back in my hair. We had great conversation, and the blowout my cut was finished with was fantastic! I was heading to work afterwards so I couldn't wait to show off the fresh look! I have a deep conditioning treatment and two eyebrow visits left, and I can't wait to go back! I was really impressed with the marketing approach, and I've been recommending Luis to all my friends and coworkers. I'm so excited about finding a 'forever salon' - it pays to take a chance! I am another Spabro client who came in to utilize the "free hair cut". Staff was very friendly, offered water, no complaints there. However when it came to the actual cut, my hair came out UNEVEN. She had styled my hair after getting the cut so it looked great but didn't have a mirror for me to see the back. I trusted that she knew what she was doing so I didn't ask (my mistake). It wasn't until I got home and looked at the back of my head myself, and found my hair was really crooked! I parted it down the middle and brought both sides forward for measurement and sure enough one side was longer. I had to go to my usual hairdresser the following week to get it fixed. I actually thought the whole thing was a scam but I was happily surprised that I was able to get an appointment within a day. I upgraded my "Head Turning Hair" and added a root touch up with Kim. We talked for a few minutes and she actually listened to what i wanted. She gave me her ideas and I ended up with amazing color and a super sexy haircut! Because I used the SpaBro certificate, I got 20% off the color and the products. What a crazy bargain---still can't believe it was for real. I have been going to the same hairdresser for 8 years and am EXTREMELY PICKY about color, cut, products, etc. I get 2 or 3 Brazilian Blowouts a year, put in tons of different highlights and low lights, and play around with cuts and style. I love this salon! It's got a very clean, cozy interior. The staff is incredibly friendly and really has the teamwork thing down pat. Nikki is so sweet and Connie did an amazing job! I would totally recommend this place to friends and family. Any time my water glass was empty one of the staff was there asking if I wanted it filled. They definitely make you feel like an important client. My appointment was at 5:00 pm and I got a metered spot nearly in front of it right off! Total bonus for the meters taking credit cards. I am also a SpaBro sucker, though so far, it's been a pretty fantastic purchase. I had my first visit at Cielo two days ago for the Shimmer & Shine treatment (shampoo, deep conditioning, blowout). My appointment was at 5pm and I found parking right in front. Most of downtown MB has the amazing meters that accept credirt cards, so that's definitely a plus. The interior is very light, airy and feminine. I was greeted by a receptionist right away, who then took me back to shampoo and condition my hair. She was really pleasant and offered me water or tea. For the life of me, I can't remember his name, but he was an olive-skinned, dark-haired gentleman who was perfect. I don't like a ton of conversation when I get my hair done and he let me read in peace while he did my hair. And in the end, my hair was beautifully blown-out and is still really soft two days later. I went to Cielo today using my Spabro certificate. Katherine was my stylist. I only got the haircut package (with the shampoo, conditioner, blowout, and style). General thoughts about the place: - Very friendly and professional staff. - Clean. - The salon is cozy and nicely decorated. - They do try to sell you some of their products, but they aren't pushy about it. Also, they don't try to sell you extra services that you don't want. My roots are clearly showing (about 4"), but they didn't try to talk me into a partial or full highlight or any color services. - The parking can be a pain, especially on the weekends during the summer. It is practically adjacent to the beach. - I checked their prices online before I went so I wouldn't be surprised in case I wanted to order another service. Although they are not cheap, they're on par with Humberto in Beverly Hills (I went there with my friend recently). And like another reviewer said, you have to pay for good hair! I am really pleased with the cut and style I received. My hair is incredibly shiny and looks great, especially compared to what it looked like when I walked into that place! Perhaps my review is biased since I only paid for gratuity (plus the product that I purchased at a discount), but there were other clients there and they seem to be pleased with their results. However, I have only paid for haircuts a small handful of times in my life and I've never paid for my highlights; my aunt is a stylist and she does it all for free. So, I think I can be fairly objective about it given that I paid so little. Ha ha. This review is for Dez! I, too, was approached in Target by some Formosi girls. I don't normally go for stuff like that but I was actually right in the process of desperately searching for a new hair salon. So I pulled up Cielo's Yelp reviews and agreed to purchase the deal. The girls had actually mentioned Dez as being a great hairstylist, so I was happy when I got her as my stylist! I'm very apprehensive when it comes to hair stuff in general, even when it's not with a new stylist, because I've had some pretty bad mishaps in the past. This time I was hoping for a trim that would help fix how thin my ends were thanks to my previous not-so-great haircut (in a different country) and give my hair better shape. I really felt bad about my hair and it looked so unhealthy. I wasn't sure how it could be fixed while still keeping the length I'd finally gotten back recently, so you can imagine how nervous I initially was going to a new stylist at a new salon. But I decided to relax and go into it trusting Dez and I'm so glad I did! Usually I get so anxious that I over-explain and pull up a dozen pictures of celebrities' hair, but I kept my explanation relatively simple and she TOTALLY understood what I wanted. I don't think I could properly express to her how great of a job she did on that day because I never know until I get home, wash my hair, and let it air-dry as I normally do. So Dez, I'd like you to know that it came out EXACTLY as I wanted! The ends look way healthier and fuller but the length is still there. You hit the nail on the head, and I have to say that can be hard to come by! Thank you soo much. She was really sweet and easy to talk to, too.
