El sagundo Manhattan Beach areas that could cut layers into long hair without losing hair. A lot of length. And Maggie is extremely attentive. Excellent at cutting hair and a joy to work with. I have been looking for a hairdresser who knows how to cut and color. My experience with hairdressers is that if they can color, they are not talented with cutting hair. Have only gone to Maggie twice, but so long as I can, I will be a customer. The first time I went she was honest with me about the style I was getting and made suggestions to modify it to better shape my face. This second time, I went in for a very basic bob. She was showing a new hire/apprentice her techniques. She was very patient, she even admitted the apprentice might be better at a particular aspect of the cut. I always get nervous about going to a new salon but I moved so I had no choice. Maggie is great. It was super simple to make an appointment. I explained to her that I have mixed hair (I'm half black and half Asian and most salons don't know what to do with me) but she explained how she's worked with all types of hair. Score! All I wanted was a trim, no styling. She really took a look at my hair and showed me how much she was going to trim off. I'm extremely happy that she didn't cut more than she said she would. That's always a worry of mine. She trimmed about 3 inches. My hair looks noticeably healthier but not much shorter. Woot! Her prices are very fair and she does not try to sell you crap you don't need. I wear my hair curly most days so she advised me to use oil and leave-in conditioner. That's when I knew she has worked with my kind of hair before. A LOT of salons have given me products that are for fine, oily hair when I have the complete opposite. I've been to most every hair cut spot around the south Bay, I'm born and raised in El Segundo. City cuts is genuinely the only spot that's ever given me a consistent cut and I really appreciate that. First time it was such a great hair cut. I was so impressed with the price and quality due to the location 6 months I went for a trim and I came out very disappointing. I scheduled my appointment 2 weeks before and For my luck on my appointment she had another client dying her hair (highlights) with her daughter in law helping her. She apologized for the delay and after 30 mins she was cutting my hair very careless and fast. Maggie had an urgency to cut my hair because every 2 mins she was checking on her hair coloring. She may be a good haircutter but based on just calling to get a price on haircuts, she's extremely rude. First time she hung up on me, so I thought maybe she didn't hear me so called a second time on a different phone and she just hung up the phone without saying anything. I saw she had a website but since three other salons which had websites did not list the prices I decided just to call. She's expensive (don't mind if cheap places have surly service as they compete on price only but at HER prices she should be QUITE a bit more courteous) she reminds me of the haughty clerk in Pretty Women who put down Julia Roberts thinking that she couldn't afford her. She probably assumed that if I asked I can't afford her (I can) doesn't want or need new customers, so if I were you I wouldn't patronize her if you had a problem with her, she wouldn't be a person I'd want to deal with. read more

Sad to say I went from a super fan of this place when it first opened, to not so much. Apparently as she gets busy, she will have her assistant cancel the appointment last minute and then say she's not taking appointments for a month on the phone for a family situation. This morning I cut (or attempted to cut) my own hair to get rid of my split ends. I had been wanting to get a cut for awhile, but couldn't find anyone close enough or that I trusted enough to touch my hair. I usually drive an hour to hour and a half to get my hair done.
