I recently moved back to the area & desperately needed a haircut. SO glad I stumbled upon Salon 1085 at the recommendation of an old friend. Upon arrival, I was met with smiling faces and kindness (not the usual "what do you want" that I'm used to), and offered a beverage. Luckily Kate was free and able to take me! Kate, hands-down, made the experience for me! She started with a wash (& the best head massage ever), listened to all of my concerns with my hair, and gave me the best cut I could've ever hoped for as a salon first-timer! This place is the worst place I've ever seen,when I booked my appointment, I briefly explained what I want, Which was full highlights including baby lights and root touch up for dark hair. They set me up for 4pm, Carly Kane was my hair dresser and she was lazy and told me she can only do partial highlights today and she said the receptionist doesn't know how to book an appointment, even tho I'd explained what I need to book an appointment for!!!! My first visit here was on opening day, when I happened to have an appointment with my hairstylist, Melissa Ivy, for a coloring & keratin straightening appointment. She had raved about how beautiful the salon was and she wasn't kidding...absolutely gorgeous and has it's own parking lot! But I digress...I first went to Melissa about a year and a half ago when a friend recommended her. Extensions had destroyed my hair, pulling out much of it (not all the hairstylists' faults, though! My fragile hair just wasn't meant for permanent extensions and my work bag strap kept pulling them out at the root so I had a massive bald spot on the right side. It was just...all bad). Since I had unceremoniously cut out my remaining extensions at home (don't try that at home, kids! It's a TERRIBLE idea...) I walked in to Melissa's then-salon coiffed like a Chinese-Crested crawling from a bunker post-nuclear explosion. My hair was DESTROYED and totally see-through. Melissa had her work cut out for her and the job she did mitigating the damage was UNBELIEVABLE...WOOO-HOOOO!! She made it look GREAT, not to mention very cute and stylish as I've been growing out...a year and a half later, it's in better condition that it's EVER been. I believe a lot of that is because Melissa is the very rare stylist who really UNDERSTANDS my specific hair type: exceptionally silky, fine, fragile...like fiberglass and how to treat it to make it grow long, strong and healthy. She's the ONLY stylist I've been to who really "gets" challenges of baby fine hair (doesn't try to layer it because it will "make it look thicker." NO, it WON'T! On fine hair, less hair = less hair!! Melissa get this and won't try to sneak layers in you will spend months cursing in pictures and trying to grow out). Last but not least, she is an AMAZING colorist. Perfect multi-dimensional blonde highlights...she nails it, every single time. She never disappoints! *Frankly, all Yelp reviews start to sound alike after awhile so, I will summarize by saying this: I willlingly endure the festering cesspool known as "the 405" for cuts and color with Melissa, and Angelenos know that is absolutely THE HIGHEST compliment you can pay here in Los Angeles. I have been to this salon twice with two different stylists since moving here a few months ago. I had r gently booked an appointment for a cut/gloss with one of the stylists I used previously. I was booked at 4pm and the receptionist stated she would be leaving at 6pm that day so that was her latest appointment. The day of my appointment I received a text in the morning stating my time had changed to 30min later, 4:30pm. While pulling in the parking lot, I got a phone call from the front desk stating I was late and my appointment was at 4pm. I told her about the text I received and they stated she had already left for the day and would call her back to see if she could take me due to the system error. I then walk inside and the manger was on the phone with the stylist. She hangs up and tells me she has someone after me and she cannot take me now. I stated I was going out of town and really needed a hair cut as it was a simple dry cut. She said sorry but we will have to reschedule you. She was completely rude and defensive acting as if it was my fault. Highly disappointed in the lack of professional curtesy to at least offer one service on their own screw up. Also, even more frustrated through all the lies to cover up the fact that the stylist did not want to come back and lied saying she had another customer after me when she first told me she left! Get the story straight. They have lost a loyal customer. read more

First off, Carly gave me the best cut and color of my life. I never write reviews but after receiving so many compliments in the first 24 hours I had to share. This was my first time going to Salon 1085. The salon itself is beautiful, simple and incredibly clean. Carly was so easy to talk to about what I wanted. She looked through all my Pinterest pics and asked question about my hair and made me feel so comfortable that we were both absolutely on the same page and how she was going to get to that end result before we started. From there she was totally meticulous and took her time to make sure my hair was perfect. Besides the perfect cut I cannot get over how beautiful and natural the color came out. I wanted her to match the darker parts of my hair to the naturally lighter bits and she did it flawlessly.
