Very good and authentic fast Mexican food. It's a little ballsy to move in kitty-corner to Velvet Taco and a few blocks from Chipotle, but all three have different offerings. I was surprised to see a chile relleno on the menu, which we ordered - not a typical offering at a fast casual restaurant, but it provides a great veggie option (it is spicy, to my gringo palate). The horchata was delicious and tempered any spice. Otherwise, my main critique is the lack of a good veggie option for tacos - it is really just rice, beans, and lettuce so I could have built my own with the sides. That's where the other spots have Cilantro beat. My other big criticism is the use of styrofoam and individually packaged plastic utensils - this is unnecessary and frankly demonstrates ignorance in 2021 when it is universally acknowledged how harmful these are. I don't typically write follow-up reviews, and not for any particular reason. However, considering the fact that I come here often and after reading a very negative review, I started to feel this obligation to say something positive about this family-owned restaurant. Making a comparison between Cilantro and Chipotle I feel is a huge insult to the owner, who I have never met, but seems like a genuinely nice guy. Although I do like myself some Chipotle, I am well aware of the fact that it isn't authentic Mexican or even actually Mexican at all (I consider it a place to get a good meat and rice bowl to be honest). I can also understand why a business owner would be mad if they got real-time positive feedback, only to be given a negative review by that same person a few hours later that day. I'm of the opinion that if your going to say something obscenely"negative" you should say it to the person's face instead of hiding behind a computer screen. With all that being said, I really think this place is a great addition to the Lincoln Park restaurant scene. Unlike the negative review, I disagree with the notion that there are better places for Mexican food in this area. In fact, the north side of Chicago (particularly Lincoln Park) is mostly depraved truly good Mexican flavors (unless you want to consider Chipotle "authentic" like some people....). Cilantro is a great spot for good taco's, tortas, burritos, and a variety of other Mexican offerings. My usual order is the chicken burrito with a side of rice and beans. The chicken is extremely flavorful and pairs well with everything else that comes in the burrito. I particularly like how they toast the tortilla, which gives it great texture. Outside of the food itself, I find that the staff here is very pleasant and willing to answer any questions about the menu. The price is also quite fair when you consider inflation these days. I also think that it's really nice they give a student discount to Depaul students For a family-owned restaurant in a neighborhood of Chicago that lacks authentic Mexican food, this spot certainly meets the bill. I don't think that the few negative reviews are a fair representation of this restaurant, especially those making comparisons to the likes of "Taco Bell". If you're in the area, looking for some good Mexican food, and want to support a locally-owned business, Cilantro checks all the boxes. One piece of constructive criticism/feedback I'm curious about pertains to their other Old Town location on North and Sedgewick. I am wondering if there is a difference between the ingredients and/or the way things are prepared here compared to the Lincoln Park location. I don't come to this location as often. When I do, I've noticed it doesn't seem as consistent and some of the things I've gotten have just tasted different overall. I don't know if maybe I've been there on a couple of off days, but it seems to be a notch below the Lincoln Park location in terms of how flavorful the menu items are. Again, this is not meant to be a demerit by any means and I still plan on going to both locations going forward. I'm just wondering if there's a difference between these two locations that I'm not aware of as of right now. read more

I enjoyed the carnitas tacos that were perfectly seasoning. The only thing missing was a lime! Tacos were $3.60 each and amazing!

I usually love the place and the people who work there. However I went in today and a young lady was on her phone then she took my order,I tipped her and waited for my order. When I got my order she asked if I wanted salsa but I didn't hear so she repeated with an attitude and I said yes, she basically threw the salsa at me which I let slide but was definitely upset and wished I didn't tip her. This young girl always has an attitude though and multiple people have noticed it. Its very unprofessional of her and gets on peoples nerves. read more

I'm a small business owner as well and know how important reviews are. It's beyond frustrating when you ask a customer how everything is and they say "good" and then leave a one star review. Anyways - this place is delicious. Ordered on Uber eats and loved. They had a delicious vegetarian burrito and a plant based taco that was *chefs kiss* ... ordered my husband the pork tamales and he loved them too. We had a couple burritos. The overall flavor of the meat was pretty tasty but I'm not sure if it's because the burritos have tomatoes and lettuce but my burrito had a puddle of liquid falling out of it. It was literally pouring out of it from the bottom, I had to stop eating it once I got past the mid point. If you go here I'd probably recommend a taco instead. read more

I just try a pastor torta was ok but the meat doesn't have any flavor at all, I get some trips taco and the taste like rotten meat, I get lengua taco was ok, any of this meats has any salt on it I try I burrito of lomo and was like 80 % veggies and 10% tortilla and literally 10% meat, finally I get the elote they have it on special, the corn was totally cold and all the salt form the meats probably they pouted on it, I get in to the local again to tell them about that and one of the cook guys just said " oh wow" the cashier was very friendly the place was nice, but no the best experience for me and prices was no cheap for the portions. read more

Where do I begin? I love Cilantro Taco Grill. I have visited the location in Rosemont which is has been my go to location since I was told by a family friend. When I found out the Lincoln Park location opened. I had to get there. Upon arrival, greeted right when we walked. Very clean location with plenty of seats, including outdoor seating which is a plus. Very spacious location. Our food was made to order, came out hot and it was delicious. The staff are awesome and very professional. A top notch team. Actually one of the team members was recognized from the Rosemont location. Very comfortable area, the corner location is perfect. It is easily spotted by either public transit, driving or walking. If I had the choice between chipotle and cilantro I'd choose chipotle for sure. I'm not sure quite what is was specifically but after eating their burrito I was sure I wasn't going back. Also it gave me a stomach ache which further confirmed my decision. Kind of a shame since it's such a great location. Ordered delivery for lunch today since they were doing sharebite for my office and I've been wanting to try this place since it's near my apartment. The horchata was great did not disappoint, the tacos were decent, the salsas were a little too mild for my taste and the tamale was dry. I will try again given the delivery may have caused the food to go a little dry and maybe the tamales are better in person, 3 stars feels too harsh and 4 stars seems too high so I would give them a solid 3.5 stars bc the tacos and horchata were good read more

Let me start off by saying I absolutely love Cilantro and visit almost weekly. It's my favorite fast Mexican place by me. It's so flavorful and delicious. Their tacos are fantastic and I love their churros too! I would 100% rate them 5 stars if it wasn't for 1 thing. They are SO stingy on their small cups of salsa. It's kinda ridiculous. If you ask for more than 2 they are rude about it and act as though you are burdening the business by asking for more. I've had an amplitude roll their eyes at me before for asking. When I say small the cups of salsa are literally like a table spoon in the container and most the time they only fill them up half way. I recently started noticing that the small salsa cups are also watered down! So not only is it hard to get the tiny cups of salsa it's watered down. Please fix this. The last 3 times I have visited I've had problems asking for the tiny salsa cups. One time my boyfriend and I visited not too long ago and they told us they would only give us 2 salsas (literally a tablespoon) FOR both of our meals. Cilantro I love you but please fix the salsa problem. Your meals are already expensive so asking for a couple of small salsas shouldn't be an issue. read more
