I was pumped last week when I had some cash (normally low on physical cash on hand) and decided to treat myself to this cash only Mexican spot for some really tasty dinner. I'm normally an Al Pastor gal, but decided to also try their Carne Asada as its what they're known for. I got one of each of those tacos, a side of rice & beans, and a side of guacamole. I thought the guacamole (small, not side) came with chips, but I didn't realize they weren't included until I got home. Not a big deal as I had a bag open I wanted to use up. But something I'll keep in mind next time to check before I leave. (You can always dine in, too, but at peak times it'll probably be busy. There are a decent number of tables with booths, not unlike a diner.) I think I'm a convert (here, at least) for the carne over the pastor! The guacamole is super fresh and really tasty. I liked the pastor but the carne was better. Oddly enough, I really liked the side of rice and beans with cheese. Simple but so comforting! Keep in mind: CASH ONLY! P.S. The lady at the register is always smiling with a happy greeting. Had two Carne Asada, which were very flavorful. The pineapple really comes out in the flavor of the meat is perfectly cooked with a few burnt ends that make it stand out 8/10 The chicken taco lacked flavor. It was all white meat and they give you plenty of it, but the flavor was a 4/10. The steak taco was a little tough giving it a 6/10. Free chips is always nice. Awesome green sauce. We came here at around 11pm on a Friday night. They were pretty busy with a lot of takeout orders. We decided to dine. The crew here was great. It was late at night, they still had smiles and the kitchen was bumping some good music. Don't forget it is also CASH ONLY. I ordered a carne Asada taco and a lengua taco. Both were very delicious. They use skirt steak of their Asada and fill the tacos up with meat. The lengua was cut thick, and was cooked perfectly. Very tender and flavorful. I put some red salsa on the Asada taco and green salsa on the lengua. My wife ordered an Al pastor taco and it was just as delicious. They also give you chips and salsa when dining in. I was craving tacos and this came up as highly recommended as a hole in the wall taco place in the north side. So we made the drive over and walked up to the register to order. The lady at the cash register was very kind and helpful. The place seemed very busy and portion sizes seemed large as well. Ambiance is a very hustle and bustle type of place. The food overall was decent. I was impressed with portion sizes, but I believe the food lacked that tang of flavor. If the meat was seasoned well, this would easily be a 5 star hole in the wall taco place. If there's anything that can be done with that it would make the world of difference. Also, the chips and salsa were extra which isn't always ideal. Chips were kind of hard and cold as well. I also appreciated the water cooler for anyone to fill up for cups of water. Although, it would be great if there were napkins there for anyone to grab rather than having to ask for extra. Overall, not too bad, quick service and decent portions. Super quick efficient and super friendly service. I wish they gave lime with the tacos but in today's times most places don't. The salt is a little heavier on this taco which is why I think lime is a necessity. Frying the flour tortilla (or using corn) a little would elevate this taco to 5 stars but that is a personal preference as flour tortillas have a distinct aftertaste to me. This use to be my to go for my torta de carne asada and al pastor taco fix. I came by a few days ago and the torta de carne asada was on point. But the tacos al pastor are still good but personally they should scale back on the pineapple. Or at least give you the option not to add it. The meat was a bit to sweet for my liking. I went in when there were only 2 other people who already had their food. I ordered a steak burrito without onions and without cilantro. So only with tomato and lettuce. (They only come with these 4 options.) Burritos are $15.00 so when they are not busy, one would expect that was not a difficult order to get correct. The counter guy was nice and on the order stapled to the wrapper, it said (in Spanish) only lettuce and tomato. So he got it right. But when I opened the wrapper and bit into the burrito - lo and behold it had onions and cilantro. I don't do so well especially with onions so I couldn't finish the burrito. One would think that for $15.00, it wouldn't have been so difficult leave off onions and cilantro. On the positive side, the steak had a lot of flavor and the burrito was very large. read more
