I ran into a situation where I needed some work done at my home, and I could not continue to foster the FOURTEEN foster pets that I had through them at the time. Rather than work with me, help me, and have empathy for my situation, I experienced a lot of pushback, and negative reactions to needing a break from fostering. My phone calls and texts were not being returned. When they were returned, I was met with attitude and a complete lack of understanding or compassion. After much resistance, they finally took the fosters back. They don't supply their fosters with food or supplies as they claim. Not once was I given any supplies for the dozens of animals that I fostered through them, even when I expressed that the puppies I was fostering were going through more food than I could manage. They also don't spay and neuter most of their animals before adoption. Now that I am back in my home, neither Regan, nor Jaime, (the founders of PORT), will return my messages asking about the well-being of my former fosters. If you bend over and break your back for them, you'll be great. But God forbid life happens and you find yourself unable to help, because you then mean NOTHING to them. Proceed with caution should you decide to do any sort of business with PORT. Don't expect a lot of help. Definitely don't expect compassion and empathy when life happens. Edit in response to PORT's reply: Port requires a minimum of 5 days notice for return, except in cases of emergency. I had an emergency. I explained this to you guys over and over and over again and your response was, "that must be tough." I had a dog through you that was being aggressive with a child. But you guys didn't consider a threat to someone's safety an emergency and were of no help. In some cases, I waited more than 5 days for you to help; I waited literally weeks! Not to mention that that dog was pregnant, and when I took her, you never advised me that that was a possibility. So I ended up with eight puppies, when I agreed to one. It was never "clear to you" that our foster relationship had come to its conclusion and that I wished to step away. I quite literally told you that once I was back in my home, I would take the animals back if they still needed placement. I notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the puppies. You did not take them until July 18th, and that was only after I showed up to get their shots and microchips, and had to PLEAD with you to help me. I notified both of you that Rusty was a safety risk, and you literally did not care. Even after notifying you of the unsafe circumstances, it took you two days to take her, and that was only after I refused to give you any more leeway. That was also after I had notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the animals that I had. You did not take Rusty back until July 31st. I let you know on July 28th that I was having trouble getting the kittens adopted. I notified you on August 4th that we needed to move the kittens. You did not take them until August 15th. As for the spay/neuter, it's irresponsible for a rescue not to spay and neuter before adoption, regardless of any contract. I also asked, several times, about getting my fosters fixed, and you never followed through. Don't gaslight me. You did enough of that when I was actually fostering with you.

Immediately coming in we were ignored , not greeted & simply asked what we were looking for. No problems there if you want to get straight to the point . Upon seeing the beagles I asked how much they were and she said $800. She then proceeded to ask where I live as in apartment, town home or home and I said the puppy was for my mother ( for her birthday) and she lived in a town home. Let me add my moms house has a big yard in the back , and plenty of great walking trails nearby. She then tells me well no you can't purchase the animal, they are a " barky, loud" breed and can't live next to other people if it's not in a home. I have NEVER in my life heard anyone create a random rule that you can't purchase a breed because it barks ...ALL DOGS BARK , especially puppies like wtf and i mentioned she lives in a town home, as well as her neighbors having a dog. Her attitude wasn't pleasant at all and I feel like she just didn't want to sell us a dog. Even if I lived in a home, next door neighbors can still hear a dog barking wether it's inside or out. She was just quick to dismiss and shut us down. The puppies are overpriced and the customer service is TRASH. I pray they get a new owner some day, I've never liked that lady anyways.

Last night, she got up from laying down and was hopping, using only two legs. Yesterday was Easter Sunday and I left a message about the deer. By 8am, a sweet woman called back and said a warden would come see the deer today. By noon, Deputy Mastin was here, evaluating the deer. Deputy Mastin said she was using three legs today! He said she can definitely survive like that. He was wonderful to talk with. I wasn't able to sleep at all last night, thinking of the deer suffering. The reassurance from Deputy Mastin means everything! Cincinnati Animal Care, thank you for being there.

Even if we already have dogs, we will make room for one more, because the shelter is over-full; or because the dog is deteriorating there; or even because the dog is sick and needs a place to convalesce. (Those of you shopping for dogs like they are merchandise may be surprised by this. Yes, people deliberately take home old and sick dogs!). This does make it harder to adopt the dogs in fosters, but *it is better for the dog*. It also allows for a bit of distance between abusers and dogs. Post Script for people who want only bred dogs: read about inbreeding, and then if you still want a dog with genetic problems, go pay a breeder.

The last straw and the reason I'm never going back is this time I ordered and my cat snacks and food was expired. Chewy has same day delivery too! And let me add the grooming issues for my cats... it's 1 girl that does cats and she never comes to the phone . The 5x I called I just sat on hold for the cat groomer that has no cats to service. Why can't she respond, why can't an appointment be scheduled in the app for this service as well as for dogs... this is a pet store, not just a dog store. So bias

We were happy to learn that part of the adoption included a complimentary visit to a VCA Animal Hospital for a wellness check. The next day, I received a call from the VCA location in Cincinnati, wanting to set up the appointment. We live in Bright, Indiana, and this location is the closest to us (which is still about 40 minutes away). The appointment was made for May 15 at 4:20 p.m. On the 15th, when Oscar and I arrived at about 4:15, the waiting room was empty. We were told to have a seat, and just a few minutes later we were taken to an exam room. The girl said that Dr. Smith would be in in a few minutes. THIRTY MINUTES LATER, another girl came in, asking some questions about Oscar, and then said that she was taking him in the back to weigh him and to take his temperature. TWENTY MINUTES LATER, a different girl brought Oscar back, and said the doctor would be in in a few minutes (for the life of me, I can't imagine why it would take twenty minutes to weigh a dog and take it's temp; especially since the girl said he, "did great"). Oscar and I sat there for ANOTHER TEN MINUTES, and I finally had enough. I picked up my dog, and on the way out I told the girl, "I'm not waiting any longer". It's pretty obvious that because this was a free visit, the doctor just kept pushing us to the back of the line. The way I see it, my time is just as valuable as his. Remember, offering the free visit as part of the adoption process was THEIR idea, not mine. Calling to set up the appointment was also THEIR idea, not mine. My guess is, because the visit was free, and because I didn't buy into their $50 a month (or higher) CareClub plan, they figured they weren't going to get a bunch of money from me, so they schlepped us off. Truth is, we're actually looking for a vet for Oscar, so it's their loss. I drove 40 minutes to get there, they kept us waiting an hour, we never saw the doctor, and it was another 40 minutes back home. If you want to honk me off, all you have to do is waste my time...and these people did; I don't give anyone who treats me like a second class citizen a dime of my money.
