It's been a while since I've eaten here. I want this local restaurant to be successful, but they need to work harder to care for the things they have control over. Our table surface was blistered and flaking off. The wall at our booth had food or drink splatter. My husband ate from the buffet and was satisfied with the options. I ordered a taco salad that was supposed to be ground beef with sour cream and guacamole. The bed of the salad was bean soupy. Very little lettuce and no guacamole. Honestly horrifying. There are no menus online, so in order to order takeout I had to show up there. Then, as a vegetarian, there are usually more options, but this place did not have a ton. I ordered a cheese quesadilla with beans inside of it, and it was OK. My partner ordered the spinach quesadilla. This is where the horrifying part comes in. In the middle of his vegetarian quesadilla was an uncooked chicken wing. Also, we both ended up getting very sick that night, and needing the next day to recover. read more

Stopped by on a Friday evening for dinner with my boyfriend and we were ready for some margaritas! We were seated right away and restaurant was quiet. There wasn't a drink menu on the table so we asked for one, however our server told us they didn't have one. I thought that was a little strange, no drink menu? So we just ordered a regular margaritas... and they tasted more like sour mix (sad face). I ordered chicken fajitas and they came with rice and beans. They were sizzling and delicious! Went here for taco Tuesday since they have $0.75 tacos. The meat quality was high and they did NOT skimp out on the amount the provide for the price. These tacos are on the smaller side but I ate 6 of them and was extremely stuffed (I usually eat enough food for a person and a half). So first of all let me say that to be fair this is not a high end restaurant. You have to realize that but I would say with that in mind it did not even live up to others in its class. Food was fair at best. Service was pretty good, not great but good. Food was very bland. I ordered chori pollo which is supposed to be chicken and sausage and cheese and I don't think there was any cheese at all. I most likely will not be back unless I have no choice. read more

Excellent find! We have been on the hunt for generous reasonably priced Mexican food and we hit the JACKPOT!!!! The hubby and I ordered the shrimp fajitas for two only 19.75 and the amount of shrimp n veggies were INSANE! We also each received our own side plate of deliciously seasoned refried beans; very tasty Spanish rice and lettuce, tomato, sour cream and Guacamole for the fajitas!!!!! Our friends with us had tacos which they loved and our daughter had shredded chicken quesadillas which she said was the best she's had! They start you off with fresh Salsa and warm fresh chips with just a hint of salt! We finished it off with Sopapillas served warm and yummy! Our waitress was attentive stopping by often but too much where it became an interruption to ensure our drinks were filled and any other needs I always after ordering go to the restroom to wash my hands and the bathroom was clean and well appointed. This was by far the best tacos I have ever had. I have had a lot of Mexican style street tacos but the these by far were the best and they are on special on Tuesdays. Hands down the best pork I have had. The staff was very friendly and checked back on me often. I know where I will be going for tacos when traveling in the Charlotte area. read more

Have been here a few times. Usually it's pretty decent food, service was amazing the first visit. The second visit the waitress couldn't stay off her phone to even notice anything. Food was brought out cold and was really off. We decided to give it one more chance since it may have just been an "off" night for them. The cook had no gloves on and was eating right over the prepared dishes he was setting up in the window to send out. Running his hands through his hair and eating and spitting all over people's food. Omg! This is one of my favourite Mexican restaurants in Charlottee. Their position side is HUGE and it is all fresh made and super delicious. Visited NC from NYC and I stopped at this place TWICE! Both times were excellent. I didn't get pics of everything but I will share my opinion on why I gave it only four stars. The waitresses on both nights were very warm and welcoming. They held conversations and made us feel welcomed. On the first night I ordered a margarita, the (Texanos?) nachos, and a steak burrito. The margarita barely had alcohol in it. It was mostly syrup and ice. Way too sweet and not worth the money. The steak burrito was huge! 14 inches! Quite delicious with all of the fixins. The nachos were amazing. You get shrimp chicken and steak with tons of peppers and onions over queso. I've visited a million and one Mexican restaurants in NYC but Cinco in Concord has the best nachos hands down! On the second night I ordered the nachos again, but with soup on the side. The shrimp soup was very fresh and tasty with a lot of shrimp. I feel like most people won't order soup from a Mexican restaurant, but don't knock it until you try it! Overall this place is nice, very homely and welcoming. Anytime I visit concord I will be at Cinco de Mayo's!!! read more

It pains me to say this because for years we have eaten here at least once a week, but this place has really gone down hill. Not sure if it's under new ownership or management, but something has changed the last month. All of our favorite staff have left and now all new people have taken over and the service has gone way down hill. Yesterday we watched 2 tables get up and leave before getting their food because it was taking too long. We were given a quarter full basket of chips and then upon getting a refill (another quarter basket) told they are almost out of chips so this will be it. Food still tastes okay, but we have decided to search for a new favorite Mexican restaurant as we see the restaurant continuing to decline every time we go in. This is fast becoming one of my favorite tex-mex restaurants in this area. Being a native Charlottean I think I've eaten at about all of them at one time or another. This particular restaurant has a buffet but I'm not real crazy about it. Where this place shines is ordering off the menu. I've bounced around all over it and have yet to have a bad meal. As an example, I had their version of pollo con crema, which is one of my tex-mex favs, over the weekend and it was outstanding! They do it a little different than most by grilling the chicken first and then applying the cream sauce. They also use poblano peppers instead of bell pepper which gives it a much better flavor! My husband and I stopped here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. A few others were in there but we got seated right away. Our waiter was super friendly and the chips and salsa are probably the best i've had since moving to Charlotte! The food came quick and was so delicious. We just moved from Arizona a few months ago and we've been trying to find a good mexican restaurant and this one is by far the best we've tried since moving out here! 10/10 would definitely recommend! I'm pretty sure management or ownership has changed within this time because we have noticed differences. A lot of the familiar face servers are gone, and there's a ton of new faces. We are still huge fans of the fajitas, and that's what we get when we visit here. The price for fajitas for two is still $18, three years later, and tasty. Lately they have been even fresher tasting and enjoyable! The charro beans are absolutely delicious! We get those instead of refried every time. A nice tucked away gem. The staff is nice and attentive. The food comes out fresh and hot. The food is cook to order so there is no issue with tailoring it to your liking. The portions are ample. I had the mixed fajita with steak and chicken. The chicken was moist. The steak was tender. Everything was well seasoned. It came with rice, beans and salad plus tortillas (corn or flour). No complaints with the food or service here. The pile of veggies I got with the veg fajitas borderlined ridiculous, but they were so fresh and tasty I somehow managed to eat the entire skillet. Husband's tilapia/scallops/shrimp dish wasn't as healthy as he hoped. The bacon and butter sauce wasn't listed in the description. Regardless of the calories, the flavor and preparation were great. The scallops were tiny, but there was a lot of seafood on the plate for $12. The service was significantly above average. Found a new-to-us Mexican spot in Concord and loved it! They have about 10 different fajita variations and that makes me happy. Like super duper fajita happy. I had the Fajita Mexicana with beef, chorizo sausage, jalapeños, dried chili peppers, mushrooms, bell peppers, and onion. Not the best Mexican food in the area (and certainly not super "authentic" Mexican but also not the worst, and Cinco de Mayo is very cheap. There is a lunch buffet everyday from 11-2:30 or 3 that only costs $9.50 and all of the entrees are super cheap as well. The service isn't bad but nothing spectacular either. Basically Cinco de Mayo is your average Mexican restaurant, nothing more and nothing less. The lunch buffet has some meat entrees: fajita beef, chorizo pork with onions, pork ribs, and some chicken con queso. They were all forgettable except the corizo which was very good. They have beef and chicken enchiladas, chicken taquitos, cheese quesadillas (very cheesy and very good), chicken nuggets, fries, and ground beef & chicken along with soft and hard shells to make your own tacos. Everything was average quality with nothing that really stood out. The rice and beans were not very good at all either- and it's not just the buffet quality, my girlfriend ordered the chimichanga which was okay but her rice and beans were also really mediocre. If you're in the area and need a Mexican fix for cheap, this is better than Taco Bell, or if you really want to chow down the buffet is all decent quality stuff and super cheap as well. If you want really good or authentic Mexican food though, I would venture out to other places in Concord/Charlotte to get your fix. read more

Well I am new to Charlotte and went here after seeing the reviews thinking it had to be atleast fairly good. But as much as I tried to like it I really really didnt. I had the nachos supreme- with no jalapeños and with beef. First off- it came out looking like a mess- but that's okay it's the taste that matters! I think the real issue here was the cheese. It was hard to explain. Because I would say it looked and had the consistency of cheese wiz from a can but I could also clearly see some was actual shredded and sprinkled. But it was liquid like- it didn't pull like cheese. I hope this makes sense. It was also really bland. The only good part was the guac which I asked for. I also got a sex on the beach- no ice or anything wasn't even cold. So, unfortunately I won't be back. But I'm uploading a photo just so people don't think I'm a liar lol read more
