We tried Cinco de Mayo in Athens, and unfortunately this visit was pretty disappointing from both a food and service standpoint. The chips were very thick and had almost no flavor. The salsa was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. Service was probably the most frustrating part. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We received our waters, but the other drinks we ordered -- a soda and a blended margarita -- didn't come.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress was also extremely inattentive. She walked past our table several times and stopped to ask other tables how they were doing or whether they needed anything, but repeatedly passed us without even making eye contact. It was difficult to get her attention when we actually needed something. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the service. The kids' chicken had breading that barely stayed on the chicken and basically slid/fell right off, and the fries seemed barely cooked. The cheese enchilada was even more disappointing. It was smothered in what tasted and looked like melted processed American cheese rather than the type of cheese I would expect on a Mexican enchilada, and the tortilla itself seemed raw or seriously undercooked. I can overlook one disappointing item or a server having an off moment, but between the forgotten drinks, lack of attention, undercooked food, and overall quality of the meal, there just wasn't much about this visit that would make us want to return. read more

After reading reviews, I decided to give this restaurant a try. I ordered the tortilla soup and flight of margaritas. I asked the bartender to choose the flight based on his favorites. They were all delicious. The chips and salsa were also delicious. The only reason I gave 4 stars was due to the saltiness of the soup. It was too salty. I've been drinking a lot of water after eating the soup. I would try this restaurant again and order something different. read more

This is the first time we ate here the guacamole was served with chicharrones much was a first for me. The tastes was very good. We had street tacos with barbacoa for the meat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tropical margaritas were also good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress was really nice. read more

So we tried this place twice. First time my friend and I were seated then a party of 10 came in after us and and they proceeded to take their orders before us... We got up and left. Second time we found the chips to be thick and tasteless and the salsa truly tasted like it was spaghetti sauce -no spice or peppers... just tomato paste. The dinner wasnt any better with the Chicken burrito being what looked to be a rotisserie chicken chopped up and put in a flour tortilla with nothing else and a sauce poured over it and heated .. The most bland food I have ever had... Sorry but a third time wont be a charm... Wont be back. read more

First time to visit yet another Mexican food restaurant in our area. Having said that, I was impressed! The food was wonderful and detail kept. The Margarita flight was an awesome idea. I will definitely put this in the rotation of places to eat at locally! read more

We came here for the first time tonight. This place only has 6 reviews and a couple are pretty harsh so I figure I'd better add one! No expectations when we came here. I ended up getting two street tacos with pastor and a margarita while my husband got a burrito with beef. For both, the meats were very well seasoned. The chips and salsa are made in house and the salsa had a good kick to it. The owner came by our table a couple of times to make sure everything was good and thanked us for coming. He also let us know that they are working on doing specials for each day including a pizza they are working on. Everyone working here is very kind. Definitely one of those "family-owned" places. One of the other reviewers had a lot of comments about the environment being dirty, but nothing about the food. I want to update that although it's clearly an older building, the sanitation is exactly what you'd expect. I haven't seen a single bug and all of the other tables around us are clean. All of that being said, give this family business a chance and come see for yourself! read more

First time here ..Food was GREAT and music was awesome!! Love this place. I will definitely be back .

We tried this place for lunch. The service was fast but sadly that is pretty much where the good stopped, filthy floors in fact 3 huge Texas water bugs two dead on alive and running. Table was sticky and gobs of stuck on food. even an old building can be clean, at least the food did not make us ill. I will NOT be back This is so sad that we can not support a local business. I really like Athens but this place really should just close its doors. read more

New Mexican restaurant we tried for dinner. Service was excellent & friendly. My wife ordered the street tacos & thought they were outstanding. The margarita was also outstanding. I had the chicken flautas that were very tasty & were very generous with the chicken. The lunch specials were very reasonable for lunch time. We were so excited about having another Mexican restaurant in Athens. It's been open a couple weeks, so we thought they would have the system down. Wow were we wrong. We went in at 530 on a Sat night. Most of the table were full of food and no one bus the tables. Five wait staff were standing behind the counter doing nothing. The worst part was the karaoke going on. Now this is 530p in the afternoon. Two intoxicated people were screaming at the top of their lungs. One fell on the stage and the other just kept singing. It was horrible. Needless to say, we left and went to another restaurant. read more
