Returned to The Whistlestop for the first time in a long time. This was my first visit since finding out I am allergic to gluten. The staff was incredibly helpful with finding things that I could have on the menu. Our server was very willing to ask the chef any questions I had about ingredients and sauces. You can get any of the pasta dishes they can make them with gluten free pasta upon request along with getting any handhelds on a gluten free bun. I landed on the Poke Bowl, I subtracted the aioli and ponzu because they were not gluten free. I removed the picked ginger out of my personal preference. To replace the sauces I removed I asked for a cup of their apple vinaigrette and it paired incredibly well with everything in the bowl. read more

Best chicken fried steak!! Their grain bowl is so incredibly fresh and I recommend going early so you don't miss out on their fresh fish specials! Great New stop in Trinidad. Small menu but they execute well. Awesome ambiance and quite frankly one of only 2 decent places to eat within 30 minutes. As has been mentioned in other reviews they do have some execution issues with being out of ingredients and wait times (more waiting for food and drinks now more than waiting to be seated). I choose to rate them positive because I want them to continue working these issues out and to succeed. There are not other options nearby and if they work on their issues this can be a local gem. read more

Felt like they might finally be hitting their stride as a consistent dinner option, but our most recent experience would suggest not. New fall menu. Ok. But it's not a Michelin restaurant. Can't they just keep the items on the menu that people like? It's cedar creek lake for goodness sake. Seated right by the live music after specifically requesting to be seated at one of the several open tables further away. The hostess just shrugged her shoulders and said "Sorry". And the wait staff? Distracted. Very social with other workers. Not very attentive to customers. We're really not high maintenance. Just need a check in every once in a while. read more

We eat at the Whistlestop frequently, and have been there on relatively slow nights and extremely busy nights. On our visit tonight (the day after Christmas) the restaurant was packed with multiple large parties. I've seen this overwhelm countless restaurants in my travels. However Taylor (the manager) had the place running like a well-oiled machine, and our waiter (Caleb) was attentive, even though he was serving multiple tables. The food was fabulous as always. I made a reservation for 9 people. I confirmed that morning the reservation was good to go but when I arrived, they only had 6 settings, then pulled up 3 extra chairs so we were all crammed together. There were extra tables that were available around us, but when we asked to have a table added onto our table, the management said no that they couldn't. The hostess was precious, and I felt bad for her under that management. The waiter was great, good attitude. Honestly, the restaurant was nicely decorated. They had live music-- not too loud or obnoxious. She was actually a good singer. The food was good. I just couldn't get over the fact that we had reservations and they weren't willing to reserve the appropriate amount of seats for us. If it's too big don't take the reservation and then they weren't even apologetic about it whenever we addressed it with them. Didn't get any extra seats- they could've moved a table. No apology. We have eaten here several times. Tonight was ridiculous. We had a 6:15 reservation. By 7:50 we had received our drink order only. When asked how much longer for our meal, we were told they hadn't even started because there was a '12 top' before us! FYI, we literally ordered 2 salads and a fettuccini!! We will consider going back when weather is cooler & we can sit outside & just order an appetizer. Our first experience (on our 39th anniversary) was a nightmare. Horrible service. We ordered fish. 1hr 30 minutes later we got fish which was not close to being even warm. My husband took 1 bite & pushed his away. I tried 2 tiny bites. It tasted funny so I was done. We had shared the wedge salad. It was just OK & we were hungry so we ate most of it. They didn't seem concerned, but removed charges. This next day I was sick for most of the day. Don't think I ate enough fish for it to be the culprit. Lettuce and dressings can also make me I'll if they are tainted. Ambiance is very nice and the place was packed. Some of the food ordered was a bit cold for my liking ( not warm enough). I gave it 4 stars because it is a bit pricey for the type of food you get. Our fault for making reservation at 4:00 (next available was 8:00) BUT they did not explain on phone it would be lunch menu. We were NOT told between 4:30 and 5:00 you can only order appetizers and salad. We ordered soup and salads and the very nice waitress came back and told us we could not get the soup. Keep In mind - restaurant was pretty empty of customers. We told them we'd like to just pay for the drinks we ordered and the appetizers we had eaten. They charged us for the soup (which they came back saying we couldn't order) and salads we ordered but did not eat. Sorry, Whistestop. This place is awesome! I've been multiple times and every time the food has been fabulous! My husband always gets the beef stroganoff and I've had the chicken stroganoff, grilled shrimp and shrimp scampi! All very good. And they let you bring in your own bottle of fine wine with. $15 corking fee. Very nice atmosphere and you might even catch the train going by blowing its horn if you're lucky! read more

My husband and I decided to try this place out for dinner. If you don't have a reservation you are pretty much treated like a 2nd class citizen. The waitress handed us our menus and told us to find a seat at the bar. Neither bartender on staff greeted us or even acknowledged we were there. AMAZING! Have to go! My husband and I dined here when they first opened and had such great potential just lots of learning in the process for them. We've continued to go and have spent many date nights here. We absolutely love it and is our favorite spot to go to for date night and to have brunch. The drinks are perfect! We had the watermelon shuttle and margarita. We've had a variety of items from the menu but the stroganoff, salads, and fried green tomatoes are our favorite.
