This place is a hidden gem! The food was amazing and the atmosphere is great. We had excellent service.

What a great place! The food was so good. I had the brisket omelet and she had the pancakes. The service was great and prompt. The atmosphere was unbelievable. If I ever find myself in Trinidad again I will make a beeline for this place.

This place is a true gem hidden in a small town! Excellent, excellent food. Great service. Clean, with good ambiance. I came for a late lunch and will definitely come back soon for dinner and maybe a game of corn hole!

Great New stop in Trinidad. Small menu but they execute well. Awesome ambiance and quite frankly one of only 2 decent places to eat within 30 minutes. As has been mentioned in other reviews they do have some execution issues with being out of ingredients and wait times (more waiting for food and drinks now more than waiting to be seated). I choose to rate them positive because I want them to continue working these issues out and to succeed. There are not other options nearby and if they work on their issues this can be a local gem.

This place is a dreamboat and so are the people that work here. As the eloquent Billy Bob quote goes, "A ten.. a fu*king ten."

Wife and I really enjoyed our night out here. Decor is unique, place was clean and service was great. The filet mignon was the best I have ever had and reasonable priced. The brisket queso was also amazing. Will go here again for sure!

The Whistle Stop was a must visit on our recent Texas visit. The service was great, food outstanding and the ambiance was cool and comfortable. Sampled a wedge salad, chicken fried chicken and the steak. All were great and well prepared. Every night has a different special, Thursday night was seafood.

Service was nonexistent and they blamed the kitchen. Even the slow drinks were blamed on the kitchen. ‍

Our app came quickly but the drinks and food came so slowly. Also between us asking for waters while we look at the cocktail menu was a lot of elapsed time. Food: the steak frites were very salty (and I love salt) but definitely the best meal ordered. The "Mac attack" tasted cheeseless -- literally tasted like water. The chicken Alfredo was "mid" but also a super tiny portion. Both pastas looked like kids meals. I guess they were priced appropriately at least. Not pictured was the Donny burger -- described as "eh it was fine". All left more to be desired. We really wanted to try the cinnamon cake but decided against since service was sooooo slow. The peach tea was bad. The oasis marg was okay. When we asked for wine, we were told "I don't know what we have let me show you" and were shown the screen that listed: white, red, rose, and sparkling. The wine should be listed on the menu with the beer and the cocktails. I'd maybe come again to sit at the bar and have a drink or two if there's live music, but otherwise, this is skippable for a full meal service.

I had the carbonara, and honestly, it was almost too pretty to eat. The service was a little slow, but it actually gave us time to soak in the atmosphere and admire how beautiful the restaurant is inside. The vibe? Absolutely check. The cocktails were not our favorite, but that definitely won't stop us from coming back to try other drinks on the menu. What makes this place even more special is that it's a true mom-and-pop restaurant sourcing food locally. You really can't beat that. Supporting local while getting an amazing meal is always a win.

Nothing flashy, nothing trying too hard just flavor that knew where it came from and didn't apologize. The arugula salad came sharp and clean, green with intent, that bitter edge that wakes you up a little and reminds you you're still alive. It wasn't there to impress you. It was there to balance things out, like a deep breath between sentences. I drank Earl Grey tea, steam rising slow, bergamot drifting up like memory, like train smoke somewhere far off. It felt right. The kind of tea you drink when you're not rushing anywhere, when the world can spin without you for a moment and that's okay. Fern in the Wild isn't trying to reinvent eating. My friend and my girlfriend both ordered their espresso martini that my friend claimed was the best espresso martini in town, while I got the bartender's recommendation of the Animal Style, a pineapple and jalapeño infused tequila with strawberries, cardamom bitters, and a lemon peel garnish. Normally, I hate any drink that is spicy. I cannot stand a Bloody Mary because I don't believe drinks should be allowed to be spicy, but this one, for having jalapeño, is not spicy at all. If anything, it's slightly savory with its tropical flavor. The bartender was great. They have appetizers and tapas as well and as my girlfriend sat down, she really wanted just one of their fresh oysters. I ordered her just one to try and it was $4.25. They gave us the smallest one they could find. The tiniest oyster of all time. I guess size really didn't matter because according to her it was very good. I would go back and have a few more cocktails, but it is a nice place to hang out on the square on a Friday night. A good time to be had by all. RIYL: The finest, most $15ish cocktail you can find.
