Inside of a pork dumpling
Mallory S.

Mexican AND Thai food? Together? At the same restaurant? Now that's a wild combination! I finally put on my adventurous eater pants and tried Cinco's special menu for the 2025 SB restaurant week in July of 2025. My boyfriend and I got to split an appetizer of pork dumplings (5 are included) and got our own chicken fajitas for our main for a total of $35, tax and tip not included. He also tried the limited time mango pineapple vodka cocktail ($9) while I got a mango margarita mocktail with a tajin rim ($6). The pork dumplings needed more than just a solid lump of pork in there, his drink was way too basic for the price, and the guacamole should have been the chunky kind (so basic in its smoothness!) but our fajitas were fantastic and my mocktail was delicious, despite being alcohol free. I was pleased to learn that they offered tajin as a rim seasoning! Is that common and I just don't know it? Idk, but it is one of my first encounters having that offered! The corn tortillas were blessedly warmed up as well. We were "trying" to eat healthy, hence the fajitas, but I want to try their pad Thai on my next visit! So bad for me but so, so good.

When my go-to Mexican restaurant was closed, I asked the hotel staff for a recommendation. Cinco was recommended, and it was within walking distance! Upon entering, I was surprised to learn it's a Thai/Mexican restaurant. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. The staff was friendly and helpful with menu ideas. I did get it to go, and it was out in less than 5 minutes. I ordered a burrito with everything and the "Diablo" salsa. Though the burrito was tasty, the side of rice had an Asian fusion taste that was throwing off the meal. The Diablo salsa was wonderful on the burrito and strong enough to cover the odd taste of the rice. All in all a good meal. I was satisfied, but will likely not return.

Cinco's food is always fresh and delicious, and the customer service is top notch you're always greeted with a smile, and the staff is attentive and friendly. It's wonderful to see this restaurant thriving in the heart of downtown South Bend!

Guacamole

Had an excellent and tasty dinner here with my father. Critical: the guacamole absolutely stole the show. Some of the best I've ever had in the world - creamy, flavorful, fresh. Chips were great too, but you can tell they are super fried/greasy. We enjoyed our entrees (Thai and fajitas) too. Service was friendly and I actually liked the ambiance but some might find it odd... cheers!

Good time catching up with colleagues in South Bend. Laid back casual family friendly dining. The margarita tower requires a table of 4 or more. Mexican and Asian fusion at its best.

We had dinner there on Saturday night, and I wasn't sure what to expect because the menu is split between Thai and Mexican, but isn't fusion. We decided to try Thai and it was good overall, but I was kind of upset at the unannounced upcharge from chicken (which is standard in each dish) to beef...which ended up being a $7 upcharge per dish. Im ok with an upcharge, but $14 extra is a little over the top. We were able to explain to the waitress that unless she explains this big upcharge to people; her tips will surely be affected, no matter how good her service was. The restaurant theme is weird, too, because there really isn't a theme. I don't know whether to be happy because the food was good or upset because the overall price was extreme compared to what the menu said. My Pad Thai was $21 with beef, which was way too much, in my opinion, when there is an even better Pad Thai option up the street for $12.95.

Steak Arracherra fajitas, keto style (no tortillas)
Douglas H.

Interesting Thai-Mexican fusion menu from Cinco 5. Everything from Red Curry to Quesadillas. Tried the steak arracherra fajitas for lunch. Full disclosure, I am a HUGE fan of arracherra from my time working in Mexico so my expectations were very high going in. Final verdict: it wasn't arracherra, at least not what I know as arracherra. But it was good. Very good. My colleagues tried the red curry and a shrimp quesadilla and both were very satisfied with their meals. Service was good and ambiance was OK. All in all a perfect lunch after a long morning of travel. Would certainly come here again.

We started with drinks and my friends and husband were down right giddy to learn you could order a 40 ounce Bud Light bottle. We ordered the cheesy garlic bread as an appetizer. It came with two different marinara sauces, plain and with sausage. They were delightful. We ordered two pizzas: one with sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom; the other had green olives, onion and green pepper. The sauce was not acidy, none of us got heartburn as we sometimes do depending on the sauce. The sauce had a sweet taste. The owners were great and kind, talked with customers including us. It's a great place to stop if you want great pizza and a great atmosphere. They even have a jukebox!

It seems to be a staple within the community, so I suggest you support. Super friendly and welcoming staff. They are known for their pizza, so we gave it a try. I really wanted to like the pizza, but to me the sauce lacked flavor. Maybe salt, herbs, garlic, onion something may have made it taste somewhat better. I added Parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, and a sprinkle of salt so that the pizza wouldn't go to waste. I didn't want to send it back, so I figured I could spice it up on my own. Overall it was a great experience and atmosphere. I would be willing to give it another try and choose another crowd favorite. The menu had quite a few options, so no need to limit yourself. If only I had room for dessert. I did take my pizza to go and became a late night munch at the hotel.

We didn't have reservations, but luckily it was only a 10-15 minute wait before we were seated. Our server was hustling and did a great job (never mentioned her name). The salad and garlic bread came out right away. The bar was a little backed up, but we eventually got our drinks. Just a glass of chardonnay for me and the hubby opted for the cinnamon maple old fashioned - definitely a miss with overly artifical tasting syrup. Our entrees came out quick, but were only warm not hot. I ordered the chicken carbonara, but it is not a true carbonara - it was a garlicky, heavy cream sauce. I had to ask for parmesan and pepper. There must be a shortage since salt and pepper were only on some of the tables and then another server came and took the parm and pepper before we were even done with our meals. My husband ordered the baked mostaccioli which came with meatballs and he added Italian sausage. The sausage was just sliced with no browning or coloring. The dish was definitely not baked, in fact the shredded mozzarella on top was barely melted. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert which was not good. It was layers of a thin spiced-like sponge cake instead of lady fingers and lacking in any sort of flavor. Overall, it was fine, but there are so many better options for amazing Italian in the area.

For $24/$25 a person, my bf and I ate like kings! If we were smart, we would have saved some for leftovers but we weren't, and ate everything. We left feeling so full! FYI, Sunny Italy Cafe is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year! First things first, I want to mention the fabulous service we received from our waitress, who has clearly worked here forever. She was kind, funny, and made us feel like family. When we were checking in for our 6:30 reservation, the man behind us was called by his name and given a big old hug by the elderly lady behind the hostess stand. He is clearly a beloved regular. I got their special cocktail, the $7 "Italian Wedding Martini," which is not a Martini at all, got me super tipsy. It was like the long Island iced tea but tastier and with amaretto. 10/10 would recommend. My boyfriend's pinot grigio wasn't my favorite but it was only $7. So I got the broiled chicken, salad with garlic sauce, the spaghetti as my side, and the bisque tortoni as my dessert, all for $24. My bf got the salad with french dressing, the sausage ragu, and pistachio cannoli for $25. The starter salad was basic but I enjoyed my homemade garlic sauce dressing immediately. Definitely not low calorie! FYI you can buy their dressings to bring home by the quart. Our waitress was excited to tell us that their complimentary Italian bread is supplied by a Chicago vendor called Gonnella's, which is also 100 years old. It was warmed up and incredible. One of the best free breads ever. The chicken was a massive portion, drenched in the most delicious herb-y oily sauce. Their famous spaghetti, which was my side, was clearly a very large portion for being a "side," but their famous sauce was fabulous. I'm very glad our waitress suggested I choose it as my side. My boyfriend, who has been to Sunny Italy before, ordered the sausage ragu for his main. Piled on top of a large pile of spaghetti were two massive sausages. It was yummy and filled him right up! Lastly, we indulged on our two Italian desserts. My bisque tortoni was an amaretto flavored rum ice cream and my boyfriend's cannoli was large and covered in pistachios. We are happy we basically got our desserts for free with this restaurant week special. All in all, for about $80ish dollars with tax and tip, we were very happy with our dinner here. I can't wait to come back and support this wonderful 100 year old family business!

I went all in Pepperoni Pizza, Cheesy Garlic Bread, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Shrimp Diavolo. For a packed lunch rush, 15-20 minutes wasn't bad at all. Now... the pizza. I wanted to love it. I really did. But it just didn't show up. It was pretty bland overall, and most of the flavor came from the cupped pepperoni which tasted like something you'd grab off a store shelf.
