My last review of Dr. Yu was in 2020 and since then, the staff continued to be wonderfully helpful and responsive to our family's needs. Dr. Yu has recently retired and although I will miss her, Dr. Bui seems to be off to a great start with our family! He is knowledgeable and patient in explanations and open to our specific needs. The staff continues to be helpful, by phone, in person, and occasionally by text. We will definitely stay with Prime Care Optometry and Dr. Bui. This business is fast to respond to your calls, unlike Kaiser Pemenente where they ask you soooo much questions. VERY RECOMMENDED

I'm afraid my one (and only now) experience with Ms. Yu was extremely unsatisfactory. I went to her because: 1) her office was in my hood; 2) she was in my plan; and 3) I was interested in maybe trying Ortho-K. The first disappointment came in learning that the Ortho-K procedure is just about as expensive than a surgical procedure. This along with the prospect of many office visits, and the treatment itself, left me looking for other options. Perhaps Ortho-K would be helpful to children, but it doesn't seem logical for this adult. The second frustration came when I was informed *after* my exam that the doctor was no longer in the plan that I was under, meaning that I was now responsible for the full cost. This was especially incredulous because I confirmed that they were under this plan the day I made the appointment. The main motivation for this poor review is that after all this, when I called the office to ask that my contact lens prescription (which was confirmed by the doctor to be the right one during my exam) be sent to an online vendor to fill it, I was given the run-around. I finally had to speak to the doctor directly and she pretty much refused to provide it. Perhaps my experience was an anomaly (based on these other reviews), but I would make sure you outline expectations and get things in writing when dealing with this one. read more

They were great! Close to my hood, affordable, friendly & fast. Plus they convinced me to go with a pair of black rimmed glasses. I didn't think I could pull them off, but apparently I was wrong because everyone loves 'em. I never would've been able to justify getting the pair I got without some positive reinforcement that they were "me". If you're looking for a new optometrist, YU gotta see Cindy. Cindy's the best! I'm an Ortho-K patient and my contact lenses were JACKED; they were at least 5 years old and traveled with me for probably 30,000 miles as I used the wrong solution for them time after time. Needless to say, after spending time in third world countries and lack of facilities, the last thing I did was visit an optometrist. Needless to say, it was long overdue, however Cindy not only helped me with my check up, maintenance and all that jazz, both her and the lady at the front desk helped me figure out my eye insurance crap that I just hate dealing with. They gave me all the necessary information about my eye insurance and also all the forms I needed so I can fill out the reimbursement with my company. This aint a dentist where you can lie with "suuuure I've been flossing..." If you don't take care of your lenses, you might get a friendly earful from Dr. Yu. I guess it's good since if you lose your teeth, you can still eat, but if you can't see you'll eat sh*t... Brilliant, fantastic, awesome! read more

I am a 10 year patient with Dr Yu and had the most unpleasant visit today. I drive about an hr and 30 mins to get to her once a year bc I live in Berkeley. After my checkup I went to the front desk and was cleared to leave after the transaction. However, half way back home the nurse at the front desk called me and told me I left my contacts. I understand it was somewhat my fault for forgetting them, but it was in the nurses hands (for cleaning purposes) and she told me I could go. I explained to her that I was already half way home and asked if she can mail them to me. THE NURSE SAID SHE COULDN't MAIL MY CONTACTS. They send me yearly prescription via mail for the same contacts and they couldn't send me these? In the end I had to drive back and when I finally got there, the nurse handed it to me. NO apologies, NO smile, NO hi. She handed to me and waited for me to walk out without saying a single word Dr. Yu needs to improve hiring PROFESSIONAL nurses. read more

Dr. Cindy Yu is nice and professional. The only complain is her staff. She does a fair job but was pretty green and cold. I will only do Optometry but not buy any eye glasses there. read more

Hubby and I are now, officially, patients of Dr. Yu's. Hubby has been seeing her for quite some time. She is the first eye doctor to ever tell hubby that her qualifies for "necessary contacts"- that is, his eyes are SO BAD that glasses just don't cut it for him. I saw Dr. Yu today and really enjoyed my experience. She agreed to not dilate my eyes as I had an important meeting later in the day. She also prescribed me some glasses to use for working on the computer- and the frames I got are really cute. So, you must go SEE Dr. Yu!! read more

Wow The staff is very kind even though I finally do not need to take an eye exam and buy new contact lenses. I definitely would go this place when I need to order the new contact lenses in the future, or I have any issue with my eyes. I am so happy to find out this places. I feel bad after reading some of the reviews about Dr. Yu, so here's a positive review that I feel she really deserves. Dr. Yu is really one of the best optometrists around. She's such a sweet and knowledgeable lady who will answer all your questions properly. My sister has been seeing Dr. Yu for many years for ortho-k lens and we are very satisfied with her care. Her prices are also very reasonable compared to other places, and we really don't mind paying even more for quality service. Note that her office tends to be pretty busy on Saturdays, so try to make appointments for weekdays if possible. And honestly, Dr. Yu's a smart lady. She wouldn't write a review using her own name now, would she? That's a little bit too obvious. Jee-Ae, I'm sorry to hear about your experience there. However, I really believe Dr. Yu is not out to rip people off as you have mentioned. I hope everything works out for you. read more

Dr. Yu failed to diagnose me properly when I went to her with some eye pain issues. It was written off as a dry eye. After a week of extreme discomfort, I was finally diagnosed by another eye doctor with a severe case of iritis. I've been a patient of Dr. Yu's for a few years now but I will definitely not be going back. My new eye doctor was pretty astounded that the iritis wasn't diagnosed immediately. read more

Dr. Yu really cares about her patients and is an overall very sweet kind lady. I would never say anything bad about my optometrist! She knows what she is doing, always tries to explain everything clearly, and is always concerned about her patients no matter what. My sister and I have been her patients basically all our lives and we have never had a complaint! read more
