I visited Golden Vision Optometry in April and had a highly concerning experience. I strongly advise people to avoid this clinic, as the entire operation felt unqualified and shady. During my exam, Dr. Pearl Shih, OD alarmed me by suggesting I might have glaucoma and pushed for further testing. This left me incredibly nervous and confused, especially since I get regular eye exams and have absolutely no family history of this serious condition. To make matters worse, Dr. Shih wrote me a new prescription for glasses. When I asked for my physical prescription, the older gentleman assisting me seemed a bit put off that I was taking it to buy glasses elsewhere rather than purchasing them directly from the clinic. I purchased a new pair elsewhere using their prescription, but upon receiving them, I couldn't see clearly far away or up close. The prescription was completely wrong, and I was forced to fall back on my old glasses. Because of these red flags, I canceled my follow-up appointment at Golden Vision and booked an appointment with a medical ophthalmologist instead. My new ophthalmologist requested the exam results from Golden Vision to review the glaucoma claim. However, when I contacted the clinic, that exact same gentleman flat-out refused to provide my medical records to me. Thankfully, the new exam results with my ophthalmologist confirmed that I do not have glaucoma. Between the grossly incorrect prescription, the unnecessary alarm over an incorrect diagnosis, the unprofessional demeanor regarding my glasses purchase, and the refusal to release my medical records to another doctor, my trust in this practice is zero. Save yourself the stress, money, and risk to your eye health--go somewhere else. read more

After I posted my review, the office reached out to me and offered to address my concerns. I called them back and it was a 15 minuted hold but I spoke to one of the managers who listened to my concerns and promised to address the customer service issues and made me an appointment to g back and meet with Jake, another office manager, to look at frames. Jake was helpful and showed me different frames and provided feedback on what I should purchase, for e.g., that I should get lighter lens etc. I put aside some frames to think about and Jake offered to hold it for me for a week. They do have a great selection of frames. I would recommend making an appointment before going over. Put aside time for parking since Main Street tends to be busy at all times of the day - whether a weekday or weekend. read more

Highly suspect that they may be using fake cheap knockoffs. Got some raybans, they started peeling after a couple of years. I've had multiple raybans, they never had this issue even in pairs I've had over a decade. Plus, none of their lenses came with the Rayban logo on them. These have coatings that are peeling after a short time without logos. Service was sub par, a lot of waiting around. When I went to pick up my glasses, had to wait, no one seemed to care to help. People at the front desk seemed occupied playing with their phones, and the sales reps would make eye contact and go about their business. When picking out glasses and lenses, there wasn't the level of expertise there you'd expect, they just told me to go on the website for the glasses manufacturer and pick what I wanted and they'd order it. read more

Went in for an eye exam which my health insurance covered, but was offered a retina exam for an additional $60 which isn't too bad. I showed up 30 minutes early and was seen right away, which was nice. Had an eye exam with Dr Nguyen, who was super helpful and super social which made my appointment fly by. I'm not sure who the front desk person was that helped me, but he was really helpful too with my initial eye examinations before Dr Nguyen. The Doctor had recommended that I pick up a few things for my eyes to help dryness which I ended up purchasing when I was checking out and getting my prescription form/finalizing things. I normally don't buy glasses here because a lot of it is designer and too expensive for my taste, but I do like being able to use my health insurance here for eye exams/prescriptions. They do good work here, and they have been for many years! Worth checking out if you're looking for a new eye doctor. read more

Every single staff member acted like I wasn't there. I walked towards one, and he turns around to go to the back. The other lady I walked towards (after she was done talking to a customer) even walks to her coworker to talk and then starts ignoring me. Not a single person greeted me, and I will never be a customer to any business that doesn't at least acknowledge their customers. It's hard to not feel discriminated towards when they only have Asian employees and they are only acknowledging the Asian customers. I just walked out and left. Worst place to get glasses. I would not recommend, staff is rude and incompetent. Dr Shih is great but the staff is just terrible. Asked to buy some contact lenses, they were charging almost 30% more than most places and when I asked them about it, the woman over the phone just laughed and didn't say anything. She offered the $100 MFG rebate, but then she said if she matched the Costco price she wouldn't give me the rebate. Which she wasn't able to explain to me why this was the case. Just avoid this place honestly. They are also in some litigation with VSP and no longer accepts VSP patients, which would have been nice to know when I made the appointment honestly. Would have saved me this headache and infuriating experience. read more

My wife and I went here to get my wife some glasses. We found a pair but not in a color we wanted. The male manager who was in a rush and acted very anxiously told my wife he could order her a pair she wanted and asked for $100 deposit which she payed him. That was March 29, 2025. Few days later that male manager (we assume he is the manager) called my wife and told her that pair we put a deposit for was discontinued and said he had a different pair she may like, so we went there earlier today April 5th and that other pair he recommended did not fit so naturally my wife asked for her deposit back but the male manager (who later told me his name was Randy which he may have lied to us) told her that he wasn't going to give her the deposit back, because he said their policy had changed and suggested she leave the deposit with them and in the future it would be like a balance under her name for future purchases. She came back to the car where I was waiting for her and told me what had happened. I urged her to go back and ask for deposit back that we really didn't want to have a balance with them so she did go back and ask for deposit and again that man brushed her off so now I decided to go and confronted him by the entrance door. They work with their front door locked and they want you to ring the bell in order for them to allow customers in. So I'm standing there by the front door and this man comes up and I told him my wife was there just now, I was the husband and we really wanted our deposit back. He was very rude and in a rude and aggressive way said: "I told your wife I can't give her the deposit but I will try next week I have to talk to my manager (female name). I said next week when? He said I don't know Monday or some other day. I said why don't you do it now? My wife paid you for a product you said you couldn't get it please give us our deposit back. Now he became even more rude and said I already told her I will try next week but his English was so bad I couldn't understand what he was saying. He was loud, barely spoke any English, was talking fast and in a disrespectful and aggressive way. Then he said I don't want to talk to you anymore and was trying to push the door on me. I told him, listen, not only I don't want to talk to you, I don't even want to be here, please give us our deposit back and you will never see or hear from us again. I could not believe how rude how low grade how disgusting this man was. I think he was Chinese who barely spoke English. After that I called my bank and desputed that deposit and they gladly helped me out after I had told them what had happened. Please protect your dignity and your sanity and never go to this disgraceful dan of thieves. I can't believe there are people out there who will go this low for one hundred dollars and treat a female from the same race in such an unfair, aggressive and thuggish way. He would never do that to me but my wife, who is the nicest person he had no respect for. What a thief, what a low grade human being, what a rude, unintelligent criminal. This place is so well organized with a wide variety of options....from super high end to more affordable brands that fit most price ranges. I was helped by Owen who was very easy to talk to, friendly and courteous. He explained everything in details and was very patient with multiple questions I had about the different options and filters etc. Despite the crowd, he took his time with us and didn't make us feel rushed at all. I had an overall good experience and will continue to visit Golden Vision for all my needs related to optometry. Also highly recommend connecting with Owen - he is super knowledgeable and patient and will help you make the best choice. He is also not very pushy or salesy types. Well, I've been a golden vision patient for several years now and have had both contacts and glasses prescriptions filled as well as frames for glasses. I've purchased at least 3 different frames from them in the past. My past experiences with Golden were unremarkable, nothing to rave over, nothing to complain. This year I made a last minute appointment before an international trip because I finally ran out of contacts. I called them to ensure that they still have my vision insurance (VSP) on file to which they confirmed before my appt. After my eye exam and contact fittings, I was told that they are out of network with VSP at the cashier's desk and I had to pay $180 out of pocket for the eye exam and fitting! Frustrated I asked them why was I NOT informed that they are out of network to which they just apologized for not informing me beforehand. We paid and left with a few trial pairs of contacts of daily's and a pair of bi-weekly. I had to go back for a follow up in 3 weeks to check the fitting of my contacts and that appt lasted less than 3 minutes and I was on my way with the new contact prescription. Yesterday I called the office and requested that the doctor to add bi-weekly contacts because daily ones are super expensive and I want to have options to switch between daily and bi-weekly. First, I was told I had to pay an additional $20 for adding to my prescription. Frustrated but okay I'm willing to pay just revise the prescription. Then they texted me that the doctor needs to see me again for another fitting. I really don't have the luxury of going back to their office for another visit, perhaps I was going to get charged again for this fitting... I don't know. Ugh, so I told them that I've been wearing contacts for 30+ years and they already had me try a bi-weekly with the same prescription during my last visit so no fitting is needed, please! Now, complete radio silence! No response at all. Well, looks like I won't get that additional bi-weekly prescription so I guess I'll just buy more daily contacts until next year and I'm never going back to Golden again! You have been warned!!! Neglectful behavior not informing customers. Neglectful service on not responding to clients. There are sooooooooo many places to choose from these days and I'm done with Golden forever! read more

Profits over patients. I guess that is the trend towards eye care these days. My previous optometrist of 30 years passed away (RIP Dr. Fujimoto) and I had to look for a new doctor. I went off the Yelp reviews and decided to book an appointment. The doctor was very good, but she's clearly the employee of a bigger operation, and it's the operations is very sketchy. Are there any optometrists that own their own practice anymore? I checked off some eye dryness, and after the exam, some woman tried to talk me into three procedures to "treat" my dry eyes...total cost would be $3000...Would I be interested? Um, no thank you. Then it came to billing for services....they said the needed two fittings for my contacts ($140 each)...um that should be part of the service, no? My old optometrist would have me put my new contacts in, check a couple of things, and I would be out of there in 5 minutes. Even with insurance my total OOP would be a whopping $503. That just didn't seem right and I just got a bad feeling. Note: when your gut is trying to tell you something, listen to it! I called the next day and said that I would not be utilizing them to order my contacts and wanted a refund. The lady asked me to come back with the credit card to reverse the charges....So I went back and the receptionist couldn't do it so the store manager helped me and said "store credit right?" Ummm, NO. I wanted the charges reversed. He then credited my credited card and I walked out. BTW, if you don't speak Mandarin, prepare to be talked about and talked around. I understand some but really rude to speak a different language in front of the customer. read more

I have gone to this business for over 10 years and since Valerie and Owen left... customer service have gone DOWN sooooo much. You feel so rush and if you don't speak their language, they seem to not care about you. They help out others first while you are the current customer with an appt. which makes a simple 45 min. - 1 hour appt turn into almost 2 hours. I have noticed this for the past 4-5 yrs and I have finally decided to take my business elsewhere. They just don't seem to value LONG TIME patients unless you speak their language.
