I was nervous coming to Plum because my hair is sacred to me and few people are worthy of cutting it. Turns out I worried for nothing because Evie did a fantastic job with my long hair! She did a dry cut then washed my hair after - which meant my hair wasn't too short! I was so relieved and happy when I looked in the mirror at the end of my cut. Few day-to-day things are more shocking, disappointing and devastating than getting a terrible haircut so I would definitely recommend heading over to Plum and getting your hair did by Evie! I took off a star because there was someone else's hair on the floor when I got into the seat. Not a huge deal but definitely a little off-putting. PS She also has a really simple system to book online which I really appreciate as it's often difficult to connect with stylists on the phone:)

Her normal price is $25 for wash, cut, and blow dry - which is very fair. But I got just a cut (no wash or blow dry) and I was in and out in 30 minutes for less than $20. Awesome! The salon just opened last year, so everything is still new and very clean and Rebecca is very nice. Bonus: it's right next door to Avenue Bread on James Street. Edited to add: I also wanted to mention that they carry local and organic hair products. I can't remember the name of the company, but they were made in Washington and smell fantastic.

My 4 year old nephew was in the salon yesterday evening for a haircut. His hairstylist Debbie is…read moreamazing and so good with him. The other staff member (didn't catch her name) that was in the salon however could use some lessons on compassion. See my nephew is autistic and he has a hard time with getting his haircut. His way of communicating his anxiety is sometimes by yelling. The other staff member was loudly making rude comments to her client about how noisy and misbehaved my nephew was being. My sister repeatedly said (loud enough for everyone to hear) that he is making noise because he's autistic & that's how he communicates and he is encouraged to do so by his therapists. After they were done my sister took the kids (her 11 year old daughter was present and heard everything being said too) out to the car and came back in to talk to the other staff member about how rude and hurtful she had been by making comments about her son. My sister said that she should learn to be more compassionate and not judge people when they don't know the entire story. The staff member said that my sister should announce when she goes into establishments that her son is autistic because there " didn't look like he had anything wrong with him"...implying that he has something wrong with him? My sister left feeling very upset, hurt, and sad. I'm writing this because she absolutely LOVES Debbie and was afraid that bringing this up to the salon owner may result in a negative action against Debbie. However, after much discussion with her we decided that it would be best if the business owner was at least made aware of the behavior of one of her staff members. Its okay to not understand, but when you are in a business serving a diverse clientele its best to try to be compassionate first and not make openly hurtful or judgemental comments about others.
