it's hot, it's chicken, there's even a Dave (but possibly just in a marketing sense at this point…read more I dunno...) came in for a little something between work and the coffee thing later in the day because nothing says relaxifying like bird chunks and fries. dining room looks clean so the pungency must be the guy ahead of me in line... order on the right, pickup on the left, wait outside sitting next to traffic because it's better that way. my #4 (slider plus fries) is ready pretty quick so I grab it and hasten back to the great outdoors to examine my bounty in the warm fresh air. longish slab o' crunchy chicken sticking out both sides of the bun and topped with slaw, pickle, and saucy sauce with more pickles and sauce on the side alongside a respectable pile of hot, crisp, and too salty crinkle cut fries that ate pretty well regardless ;-) slider is almost a chicken shooter; dip the ends in the sauce, bite of chicken, bite of pickle, repeat as necessary until you're holding a chicken sandwich... overall a fair meal at a reasonable cost. all freshly prepared and served piping hot and crunchy; dine in, dine out, carry out, however you wanna do this it'll get you fed and it might even set Peter's eat-o-meter to whirling.

When they say sliders, I was thinking they would be small, but no, sliders are full-size chicken sandwiches! The sliders come with coleslaw and pickles on them and a side of fries. Drinks are a separate charge.. One slider with fries was plenty big for a meal! The mild was not spicy at all, and the medium was a little spicy . The seasoning is what makes the chicken!

But no, this cookout gave me quite the opposite. I went to the doctor after and they diagnosed me with PTSD. From now on whenever I hear the phrase, "cookie dough milkshake", I break out in cold sweats and get light headed. But anyways back to the story, I went through the line asking very little of the employees; 3 burgers, 2 trays, and 3 milkshakes. Pretty easy right? Apparently not. The food comes out in surprisingly good time, so kudos to them for that. But when we got our food and left we realized something was gravely wrong. The milkshakes - they were... it pains me to say this but, they were vanilla. I thought I clearly specified the flavors of my milkshakes. But apparently this cookout has other plans. I will give them credit because the rest of my order was good. So the moral of the story is don't get the milkshakes form cookout. Side note: when my doctor diagnosed me with PTSD she also diagnosed met with type 2 diabetes and short bowel syndrome. She also said I'm true leading cause of obesity in America. I'm not sure if that's related to cookout but take it how you want.

I ordered their pulled chicken sandwich on Texas Toast meal with Mac & Cheese and fries. My husband wanted to try more of the sides so he ended up getting their 3 side plate (fried okra, baked bean, and corn pudding). Their Special on Tuesdays is their bone in ribs. There was anything that we tried and didn't like. City BBQ is now our go to spot when we're in the area or if we can't decide what we want to eat.

Do not EVER rely on City Barbecue for an online order!…read more My recent experience with City Barbecue left me genuinely shocked. I placed an order for what was supposed to be a special New Year's Eve dinner, only to find out that when we went to pick up the food at 7:45 pm, they had run out of food, and the manager, Kendall, could not have cared less. I had an order number and confirmation text, and to quote the manager, Kendall, 'Sorry for the inconvenience'. Really? That is the extent of your apology? It was much more than an 'inconvenience' to find out at 7:45 that we were not going to have any food for our guests. When I asked why we weren't notified earlier, Kendall blamed the online order system that he said didn't work properly. That didn't make sense because I ordered it from their website. When I said if they had notified us, we could have planned something else, he said they didn't have time to look at the online orders, even though I placed the order TWO HOURS PREVIOUSLY. So, if you plan on ordering from them, you now know they aren't checking the orders, and if they run out, you won't be notified. Kendall did offer to substitute pulled chicken, but I would have to pay for it. It seems like some offer of a discount would have made sense. But in keeping with the entire experience he didn't care enough to bother. I was informed that David Steiger is the Regional Director. He should be aware of the customer service provided by his manager. Don't make the mistake I made and EVER rely on City Barbecue for an important occasion.
