When ordering by phone for "take out," after being on hold for 6 min. 33 seconds, they told they didn't offer baked potato as a side with hamburger steak. Then said "they would," only to find they decided to charge $5 without informing me at the time of order. The steak was ordered with gravy. Rather than providing it in a separate container, they wrapped the steak (and gravy) in aluminum foil which was a mess trying to undo the foil while most of the gravy dripped from the foil wrap while unwrapping. Random middle of nowhere restaurant in North Carolina. The blue ridge parkway had a detour and we were hungry. So we were very happy we stopped at this place to eat. We came right before closing (2pm) and were greeted with friendly southern hospitality. We ordered the burgers, hush puppies and fried pickles. All so delicious!!! And dirt cheap. We found this place while my wife and I were on a Saturday drive. Very inviting atmosphere. We both ordered an 8 oz burger and a side of breaded mushrooms....the burger was really good but the mushrooms were the star of the show... these were sliced and had a homemade breading. Was told today that this place has been around for 50 years. Been coming to Sparta for 3 years & never noticed it. Stopped tonight & so glad we did. My husband had a ribeye steak sandwich with fries & it was actually a real steak. I had a hamburger steak with salad & baked potato. We love wings, so we ordered those & they were delicious. Didn't order the cold, hard, broken bun but it was called up off the bench for this order. Don't let the humble appearance fool you. This place has some really great food! I am new to the area, so I've only been a few times. So far, I have been going on either Friday or Saturday in order to get seafood. This is the real deal! The fried oysters, fried scallops, and crab cakes are on par with what I've had at Atlantic Coast restaurants in several different states, including Maryland! The hush puppies are great, but I wish they were bigger and there were more of them (not a complaint, but a testament to their taste). If you can get a baked potato, what a bonus that is. I can usually stretch one meal into 3 or 4, depending on whether or not I can control myself. I'm looking forward to trying more items, but not until I get tired of fried oysters (probably not anytime soon!). read more

You would not think this was much of a place until you see the cars in front during lunch and dinner every day. I come up from Charleston, South Carolina where there is great fried seafood and Circle L has the best fried flounder and seafood platter to match anything in Charleston. Burgers are great too and you get the family style atmosphere. read more
