So when you check in do not bring your gear to the check in shack just go there and pay the 20$ daily fee which is more than reasonable and they will instruct you from there. Place accepts cash only! So make sure you have cash before you get there and ATM could be mikes away! Great location, I am not sure if it's truly a hidden gem but for us who live in Marin, this is the closest public range you can go to. Easy to find and drive there is beautiful. once you pull into the parking lot, the Range Officer desk is located inside the rifle range. Leave your stuff in the car until you talk to the RSO (or RO) sign in and pay your $20 fee, the first target is free, and not sure how much each additional target is since I bought my own. He will lend you his stapler if you don't have one. The older gentleman is friendly. After you pay the fee you can then proceed to bring your firearms to the bench (but not during cease-fire). If you are not sure, just ask the ppl around the area to see if it's ok. The older gentleman will let you know 2 min before cease fire and once he calls it you will need to open your slide and step away from the bench. The good It is an inexpensive, easy, no membership needed place to shoot in Sonoma county. There are varying distances up to 300 yards. Beautiful setting. The bad The overhangs are too low! Especially on the right end of the range. You have to crane your head close to the bench just to catch a peek at the target. On the pisyol side i have to bend my legs quite a bit to sight the tatgets, snd 25 yards is too far! They take a lot of money in everyday ( always busy) but dont put much back into keeping the place up. Happy the place is there, just wish they had a little motivation to make it s little nicer. Pistol range gets packed early. And can be a bit difficult for beginners because the targets are all set 25 yards away. (Little too far to practice for a newby) gorgeous location though. No membership required and a flat $20 for the day. Range staff can be a bit grumpy depending on the day. But all in all this is my go to shooting range. Never had a bad time here. The rifle ranges are fantastic. They've got a short, medium, long, and insanely long range for rifles. Bring water and snacks if you plan on spending the day. But if you're in the area and want to get some range time in, this is the spot. read more

I'm not talking about the fellow shooters (they were generally great), but the RSO. Hey, I get it that firearms are dangerous and safety is important, but come on... there is no need to be such a rude as*hat to you customers. Best place ever as a certified rso and certified sled instructor and police officer for Chester city pd. there's no better range. It's the best range you can go to and you're surrounded by beautiful scenery. That this range hasn't been destroyed by marin county is amazing. it's bar none the best place for shooting. The only downfall is you have to shoot from the bench and cant practice shooting in the prone position. If you follow the rules and are gun safe the range master is nice. Its hard to shoot to 300 yards off of a lead sled because of the roof overhang over the benches . Other than that a great place in the country side . read more

Not much space to setup targets frames are dilapidated. The ranges for short/mid range pistol, shotgun and rifle aren't that great. Most are probably used to shooting at trash this is the only place to practice without driving hours. If you want to shoot at nothing or have a long range scope to test/zero in this is an ok spot. Seems like 12pm and after is a good time to setup not many people here. I prefer this to BLM land where people can be idiots with guns. read more

First time going here. Seems alot of reviewers are upset with the strict rules or range officers. I however appreciate the strict rules. Firearms are obviously not toys, can be dangerous if mishandled, so the rules are strict accordingly. I did make the mistake of being at the bench when ceasefire was called and was not yelled at. Range officer just told me to step away from shooting bench and i learned not to do it again. His patience was appreciated. I imagine people getting yelled at cant follow rules or are breaking rules that could potentiate a dangerous situation. Knock one star only cause i didnt know where the paying desk was when i arrived and the range officer responsible at front desk didnt say anything when helping me. Needless to say he didnt welcome me or say hi or anything. Just took my money. Get the vibe he doesnt want to be there, and/or doesnt appreciate the customers. But it is a shooting range and i went there to shoot, so the lack of interest was mutual. read more

Why is this place getting a 3.5 starts out of 5? This place is great.... inexpensive and I'll say about 80% of the people know how to handle themselves with a weapon. Compared to going to some other spots where you feel like you'll get shot on site by accident. Very nice area, isn't super hot or anything outside, beautiful site. Me and my son were approached by some cocky know it all range RSO that could have greeted us nicely than proceeded with his power trip. Instead we got, hey you've never been here before huh? I said yes been coming here since the early 90's. There was no super pressing safety concern that he noticed but probably saw I was a combat veteran and had to f*#@ with me. Went there this Friday after been here three years ago and was surprised that price is still the same. Potable outhouse was one large one and clean! They might add more as season picks up. Only gripe was they were not using any kind of a PA system to notify everyone when range is clear. Best place to go if you know your way around guns and respect the rules of the range. If your new to shooting and come here best to come when not busy and ask for help from someone there (. It's the only outdoor range in the area. For the price you pay per shooter, this place should have better upkeep. The target frames are always run down, could have cemented walkways, loud speaker, etc. There are a couple Range Officers that have an attitude for no reason. Can't even greet you when they take your money. I've run many ranges in the Army. These guys are wound tighter than a cheap watch. I've seen them yell at guys for policing their brass during a cease fire. What other time are people supposed to collect their brass that is in front of the firing line? Not being able to lay prone is foreign to me. Rifle shooters have to shoot from a bench... how is that improving your marksmanship for real world scenarios? read more

DEAR MANAGEMENT: FIRE THE AWFUL STAFF!!! One particular "range master" is a short, sad, old guy with a white mustache, tattoos, and a veteran hat on, and he has a MAJOR attitude problem. He definitely needs THERAPY and should NOT be around guns. I brought targets that had multiple targets on one paper which has NEVER been a problem before with other range masters, but THIS old crotchety geezer yelled at me (instead of politely coming up to explain while everyone was putting up targets) saying that I could only use THEIR paper targets and if I didn't, I'd be kicked out.‍ I didn't understand, and when I asked for him to explain why I could use THEIR paper with 1 target but not 1 of my own same-sized paper with 5 targets, he got all grumpy and mumbled, avoiding eye contact and pointing to a list of range rules. The only rule they had there was to "center your targets on the back boards", but there was no rule about using paper with only one target per paper. I said "What if I just shoot at the center target on my paper?" He wouldn't explain and just grumbled and had a major attitude problem just saying "If you can't listen, you have to leave". I'm never going back with staff like THAT ruining the entire event with his power-tripping, antisocial, mentally unwell nonsense. And the range is a dump. It's just rickety wooden frames, there were no new pallets (just scraps of half pallets that fell over in the breeze) and the staple guns they have there work poorly. People pay $15 to shoot, and there are tons of people per day. PUT SOME OF YOUR PROFITS IN TO IMPROVING YOUR BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop scraping the bottom of the barrel with the least effort possible just because you're the only outdoor range nearby. read more

Y'all like guns? Well hell yeah tiger, this is the place fer yew! It's less than $20 per person, and you can shoot all day. You get about 30 minutes per round before the rangemaster stops the clock and lets y'all pick up your targets and try again. They even let you borrow a staple gun so that you can post photos of your favorite terrorist to shoot at! It's a very uptight, professional environment. Once the bell rings, put your guns in the rack, step away from the bench, and do your thing. Very safe, and tight ruling. The benches are a little wild and worn out, but you can prop your gun up in whatever you have. They've got ranges from 50-300 yards. I can't even hit a target if it were right in front of me, but we had a good time anyway. read more

It's the only range in Sonoma County. That being the case it's not a bad place for some fun shooting or sighting in a new riffle. You will get your fair share of wannabe gun experts but that happens at any range. The range masters are a good group with a couple of real strict jerks, hence the 4 star rating but strict is better when gUns is involved. My only complaint is that riffle must be shot of a bench. I don't like not being able to shoot different positions while sighting in a riffle. There is no store or supplies or sale on site. Bring what you need. read more

Knowing what other gun range is out there, It's the best for 50 to 300 yrds and 25 (I think) for pistols etc... Range master is who you would expect being out. Kinda reminds me of my Navy days. Keep within the rules you're gonna have a great time. Shoot, chit chat, enjoy your whole day at the range. Bring along your lunch and bring your gear for the range and you won't go wrong. Items: Staple gun, sticky targets, hat, eye & ear protection, spotting scope, ammo (no store available). restroom is a porto-let - all expected at a country range. You can move to 25 (pistol), 50, and 100 (which includes 200 and 300) just double time back after you put your targets on. Don't let the others wait for your fat @rse. Shooting range wasn't the best but got the job done. Range master was helpful and explained all the rules. Not a bad setup, had the distance. Target props could use some investment, but worked fine. $15 for a day of shooting. The place is a bit run down but I can care less. The target stands need some love or just re made every few months but you can't complain considering there is no where else to shoot around here. Overall had a great first time experience there. You get what you pay for. $10 for an all-day permit to shoot at targets. The only real rule is (other than obvious rules) is leave your weapon with the chamber open and step away from the table during cease fire. I think that cease fires are every 30 minutes. There's a 2-minute warning. This can be annoying, but it can also be more relaxing than other places. I didn't really feel safe here because when you get here, you sign a paper that looks like a plain sign-in sheet that doesn't have any other words on it. You do have to a read a rule list which looks like it's from 1960. Overall, I think the range is cool since there's not too many rules, but then maybe you won't feel safe. If you have a group of 6 and maybe 2 people only want to shoot 1 or 2 bullets, you could probably get away with only paying for 4 people because the range master never really checked. Like I said, it's pretty relax and not many rules, which is good and bad. There should be a PA system. read more

I haven't been to Circle S Ranch in years. I took my wife (retired LE) and 17 year old son. We had a great time. Range Master was professional which I very much prefer. I like this place. I've been to several ranges around the greater bay area, yeah this may not be the prettiest, but it still serves its purpose as a decent shooting range. I've never had issues with the staff there, they're actually pretty cool, and helped me a few times when my AR had issues. The pistol range can use some upgrading though, but it is what it is. The rifle range is pretty good, but it can get muddy out there after it rains, bring boots! read more
