I recently moved here from San Diego, where all of my fishing experience is. I fish in Baja as well, off the rocks, cliffs, and my surfboard. I wanted to get hooked up with the proper crabbing snare equipment and advice, as well as what to use for rockfish and other species in Bodega Bay. The staff was very helpful. The owner chuckled when he saw the pole I brought needing spooling. It was more for lake fishing. This was not my rod so I knew it was going to be difficult to do anything with. They had a sale on Competitor Spinning Combos so I snatched one up as well as the snares for all of my poles. Luckily I was told my crocodiles work well here as well. I'm heading out tomorrow. I told the kid I would be back with my swim baits needing dozen new jig heads, came in today to do that and wind on some suffix 832 braid I had from before but never used,on my new reel, he said we don't do that service and don't do braid on spinning reels, but I checked before and they sell suffix 832 and do all reels. This place is a constant disappointment, Last time I purchased $100 in gear but wanted to return $30 worth, the chain smoking owner, didn't know how to do returns on his own machine, Not coming back! read more

I called in to ask if they had live shrimp available and they said yes so I was super excited and on my way. I bought $16 worth of shrimp there which is half pound, one major mistake is I didn't check them in the store. I drove to black point which is 10 minutes away from the tackle shop and upon arrival I realized that 99.9% of shrimp were not only dead but also very tiny. Dead shrimp and tiny is a no go,wasted my money and time here and this isn't the first but sure will be my last here. read more

Owners Father and son and their staff person, Sam, operate a small, family owned business with a pretty substantial inventory of rods, reels, and tackle. The Dad, a former commercial fisherman, is teaching his son the business with the plan that Junior will be taking over something in the future. Sam, well, she's quite something. Clearly, Sam knows about fishing, and like the owners, really loves it. What's wonderful about the three of them is they love sharing their love of fishing with their customers, and will spend as much time as needed to help their customers get the equipment they need, while if asked, will explain how it's all used. I don't make the trip up to Nor Cal as often as I used to but when I do, I always went to Scotty's Bait and Dive as well as the awesome gun store next to it. I wasn't going to leave a bad review but man - do you not want customers? I bought some shrimp and much like the previous reviewer, I wish I would have checked before I left. Most were dead and stunk. I can understand things like this happening but a friendly experience would at least make it not so hard to swallow. The old owner, Grey haired guy who I can only assume was Scotty, was at least extra friendly and offered helpful advice. These guys seem more concerned with getting you out the door so they can smoke. Needless to say, we won't be back. Not sure who else does this up there but there HAS to be someone better. read more

I love this tackle shop. Great selection of live bait for freshwater (hard to find minnows elsewhere) and salt water. Also since covid began it's been hard to find specific tackle as dicks and big 5 often have sparse inventory. This place has everything you need, sinkers of every shape and size, good quality hooks and lures, sabikis you name it. They don't have as much selection for reels, but what they do have is fairly priced and good quality. I bought a Daiwa reel here and was very pleased. Lastly they are really knowledgeable about local fishing spots and you can get great advice. Highly recommended. read more

I typically never leave bad reviews and I support small business wherever I can. That being said, I would rather go to a big box store and have no customer service than endure the poor customer service coupled with high prices that this place offers. The prices went up but the service went down after the last owners sold the place; the service is a hit and miss now, happy to catch the younger kids. However, the guy who I think is the new owner is not nice at all, bad service. Never coming back there. You should be nice to the customers when you run a small tackle and bait shop like this to retain loyal customers, why would I go here when I can go to the Outdoor Pro Shop instead? read more

I've been to bodega tackle many times and every time I go the staff has been knowledgeable and helpful. I've purchased grass shrimp and ghost shrimp 4-5 times now and haven't had issues with them. Most of the times I end up with a shrimp or two extra that they throw in. I find it super helpful to have an old school bait and tackle shop in town open at 4am during salmon season. Just went in for the first time while I was on my way home from crabbing on my buddies boat.I was greeted right away by the young man tending the store with "How can I help you?"I told him I was looking for this crab gauge that fit into a starboard block that turned it into a crab cleaner.He knew right away what I was talking about and grabbed it.I told him I was gonna look around for a few minutes and I grabbed a beenie with the shop logo on it.We talked crabbing for a few minutes and I was on my way back home.I will be sure to pop in again when I fish up that way and help support a great tackle shop read more

Great tackle shop! Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I've purchased lots of gear and get always 1/4 lb grass shrimp . The grass shrimp is always alive with a few occasional dead ones but they are alive when I get them and if I leave them under the sun or in my car and not keep them cold and wet they will just cook. I've gotten small and large sizes in the mix if they're small then I just and more to my hook and if they die I keep the shrimp in the fridge and use them again it's stinky but I swear I get more bites from the dead ones than when they were alive last week I caught a keeper striper at the river with that frozen grass shrimp And had it out in the sun at treasure island the day before using it as bait .. I guess grass shrimp works no matter what.. again great bait shop, tackle shop and great staff and they acknowledge you . Most tackle shops are snooty, unfriendly won't help . I recommend this place thumbs up - they even tried to help find a 25-50 hp motor for my 17ft runabout .. read more

i have been going to now Bodega TAclke since it was petaluma Sport & Dive i believe ..old owner was a buddy of mine & my kids practically grew up there we have house boat in lake sonoma ...so always get my minnows there.. i was very skeptical when Herb left !!!BUT EXTREMLY inpressed on new ownership excellent knowledge!!GREAT ATTITUDE , great product line... u cant go wrong!!!!!! read more
