Apparently, this is THE place to rent and buy costumes in Fort Wayne. They've been operating in the city since 1949! It's also the place to buy fake poop, fake barf, fake teeth, fake mustaches, fake hair and fake Spam. (The fake Spam is actually a decoy secret safe.) They also sell lots of silly gifts, corny mugs, cringey t-shirts, ironic greeting cards, and a lot of Marvel things, for some reason. Stoner's has three rooms of "things that you didn't know you needed but can't live without," according to the delightful woman who works here. She literally said that while standing behind the counter, and I immediately and covertly wrote it down in the notes section of my phone because it was so great. This same woman convinced me to try on a dress from the costume section that looked like it had the Eye of Sauron on it and was $3, because she said, "You're so small, you could fit into this costume and wear it for real." I mean, if an older woman who works in a costume shop called Stoner's Funstore says that you're small and would look good in an Eye of Sauron dress that used to be a costume, you try on the dress. Unfortunately, the proportions were all wrong, so I had to put the dress back on the rack. The vibe at Stoner's is cool and laid back, the people who work here are friendly and helpful, and the store is centrally located in downtown Fort Wayne, with lots of parking, which is a rarity for downtown Fort Wayne. This is a good place to visit if you're looking for a silly gift or costume for Halloween, or any time, really.

I found a large painting that had two separate price tags for $4. Every other painting in that same rack was also marked $4. When I got to the register, I was told it was a mistake and the price was actually $14. When I spoke with the manager to ask if they would honor the price, given that it was marked twice and the entire rack was consistent, and she refused. Instead of taking responsibility for a clear clerical error, she told me that "customers switch tags" and insisted on full price. It is one thing to have a pricing mistake, but it is another to imply that the customer is being dishonest. To be accused of switching tags when the evidence of a store-wide marking error was right in front of them was insulting. I've always enjoyed shopping here for my home projects, but I won't be back after being treated like a scammer over a $10 difference.

They did have helium, so I put in a balloon order and picked up the weights and helium balloons and all the things at this location. But when my husband picked up the balloons, only 2/3 of the bouquets were there! I immediately called because I was close to tears because balloons for a 3-year-old birthday party are a big deal and we had to leave town right away for the party. The person on the phone told me there was nothing they could do over the phone, and I'd just have to come in another time and request a refund. I finally made it back a week or so later (not a very convenient location to my house) and had to explain the whole story to the confused employees (to their credit, they tried their best) but because everything was missing in 1/3 increments (e.g. 1/3 weights, 1/3 helium balloons from a pack, 1/3 mylar balloons from a set, etc.), it made refunding them very difficult. Also, just curious where my balloons went?? No one ever found them. Anyway, we figured it out. It was super annoying. I hated doing all that work to drive over to get the helium only to not get all of my balloons and have to spend way too long communicating to employees.
