The list of times they have made adjustments to accomodate our needs is endless, and our pooches truly do love them! I urge anyone and everyone to become long term clients! Let's start with our two spoiled princesses, Mimi and Dora, one inside and one outside that we dote-on daily. As we had planned to fly out of town, their care was a huge stress-point for us, and we researched a service for weeks. Add to that is the home-security factor as well. Having Kate's team being so experienced, and secured, we've found that not only peace-of-mind, but an invaluable part of our support system for our kitty-girls. However, even more than that, is the incredible and amazing care and attention to detail they brought to the service, and... AND... connected us with Michelle who unbelieveably bonded instantly with our ultra spoiled indoor kitty Mimi (who warms up to noone). Not only did Mimi bond with her, she loved Michelle's coming over! We have the camera footage, plus Michelle's awesome daily photo's and video's too! It's almost impossible to convey our appreciation and happy stun-factor, but EPIC is probably the best word! 5 Platinum Stars Incredible!!!!!

So for at least 10 years, perhaps more, we've limited our vacation travel to the eastern U.S. so he could travel with us by car. But this trip was to the western U.S. for two weeks, and flying with him was just not an option. We checked the internet and decided to call Dee Dee based on the good reviews we found there and because she's based near us in Durham. Dee Dee returned our call right away and set up an appointment with two of her sitters at our home so they could all meet our two cats and learn about them and their needs. I explained how the two cats would need to live in two separate parts of the house while we were away (due to significant age differences they don't get along that well). So it was a little complicated but Dee Dee assured me it would be no problem. She explained their services thoroughly and reviewed various documents (just a few) that I needed to sign to lock in the dates, then I gave her the keys and a deposit and we were all set. We still worried about leaving our older cat, but we needn't have. The first couple of days he did hide from the sitters under our bed, but soon after that he warmed up to the four different sitters (including Dee Dee) who cared for him and our younger cat. The younger--and much spunkier / former feral--cat was totally fine with them from the beginning. (He worked throughout their time with him on convincing them that he was allowed outside while we were away...NOT!) It gave us such peace of mind to know our two little guys were well cared for in our absence by people who really love animals. And a huge side benefit was that someone was in and out of our home every day, so it looked occupied (we also had multiple lamps set on timers). We had not considered this security side benefit when we hired Dee Dee and team, but really appreciated it in the end. When we returned home both cats were happy and in great shape. The weekend after returning from our two-week vacation, we again used Dee Dee's service for a four-day long weekend trip out of state for a family funeral. This time we took the older cat with us (so he could have a break from the younger cat!) and Dee Dee's sitters took care of the younger cat, again with great results and the wonderful daily text updates. We are so happy to have found Dee Dee's service and highly recommend her and her sitters. We feel it's a great value and will definitely use them again.

Strangest experience. Dee Dee took a disliking to my partner. After the interview was over, she…read morecame back and said her employees found fleas after interacting with our animals. This was a great surprise, so we took all of our pets to the vet, and he confirmed that our pets didn't have any fleas. The problem is that she made a REALLY big deal about the fleas and said that her employees wouldn't sit for us because of the fleas. She lectured us about hard it was to get rid of fleas and that we had to bomb and do follow-up treatment. She was really weird. She first said that one of her employees found 3 fleas on him during the interview. After that, when she came back, she said she was picking fleas off of the other employee and that he told her that he wouldn't pet sit for us. She was awful and oh so strange and the message was that we were lucky to have her team as pet sitters, as though we were the lucky ones to have her, not that we were valued as a customer. Keep in mind that I worked many years as a pet sitter and never would have treated a potential customer the way this very strange team treated us. There are so many pet sitters that are great. Keep looking, please. Thank goodness, our pets don't have fleas, confirmed by our vet. That said, how annoying because she didn't like my partner she made up ugly stories, I guess assuming that we wouldn't check. Very, very weird people, and we're very glad we didn't allow them in our home with our pets when we weren't home.

Bones Pet Care - Brownie gives Christa (owner) a kiss.

I write this review because I would not want any pet owner to experience what I experienced with…read moreBones. Specifically, with the owner, Christa Sharp. Christa showed complete disregard for the wellbeing of my cats and for the safety of my home. She was unprofessional, unpredictable, noncommunicative, and unreachable. My last petsitting from Bones was March 3, 2018. It left me completely distraught over whether my cats were even okay while I was more than 1,000 miles away. I begged Christa to confirm that my cats were okay. She never did. Never. It was absolutely cruel and cold. An overview of the visit is here, for you to make your own decision about whether Bones is right for you. I started with Bones in the summer of 2014. Service was great for the first two years. It went downhill, then uphill, and then downhill again since then. Christa, the owner, did my last petsitting visit in Durham, NC on March 3, 2018. I unexpectedly was stuck in New York City because of a Nor'Easter that grounded all outgoing flights. I booked my Saturday morning, 30 minute appointment through the Bones online scheduling system on Friday (3/2) at 7:30AM. For past visits, Christa had encouraged me to write instructions into the booking system for what my cats needed. (Even though the cats' routine was the same as shown to Bones in 2014 and never changed much.) So, I wrote instructions in the booking for what was needed, including the fact that my house alarm was set and on. I put *** by this fact, emphasizing that whoever did the visit would need to be ready to disarm the house alarm with a certain code in a certain place. Done. Booking submitted. In addition, the online schedule system displayed a note that indicated a pet owner should text Christa if the owner was scheduling a visit for within the next 24 hours. I was close to that cutoff, so I texted Christa about the booking. She texted back "Ok thank you I can do it". Fast forward to Saturday morning 10AM. My phone rings. I miss it. Caller ID indicates it was my security company. I call them back. They tell me that the front door alarm of my house was triggered. I tell them it's okay and they cancel dispatch. I immediately text Christa and ask if she is at the house (10:01AM). No response. I wait. I text again (10:19AM), explaining that I got a call from my security company that the house alarm was triggered. I gave her directions to disarm the alarm. I asked if she could relay those instructions to whoever was at the house. She responds (10:23AM) that she didn't have her phone with her and did not know how to use the alarm. She says, "I am sorry I was not able to turn it off". I text back (10:25AM) that it's okay, since she still should be there she can shut off the alarm now. I remind her that the instructions for disarming the alarm are written out in the note for my booking as well. Her response (10:26AM): " I am not doing a 30 minute visit with the alarm blaring. ... I guess I will go turn it off but this is the last time I can do any sitting for you. Thanks." Think about that text for a minute. 1. She didn't stay 30 minutes for the 30 minute visit. 2. She didn't read the instructions that I left for the visit, which she specifically told me to write. 3. She didn't contact me about my alarm going off. 4. And MOST IMPORTANTLY - she left my house with the house alarm blaring - with my two cats inside, helpless to get away from that distressing sound. !!!!! I, of course, sent a series of texts begging her to confirm that she did go back, that the alarm is shut off, that my cats are okay. (Again - she explicitly states that she does not take phone calls.) No response. No response. No response. The End. This entire experience with Bones / Christa was not just unprofessional and wrong, it was CRUEL to my cats and to me. No one like Christa should be pet sitting. Please, please, for the sake of your pets (children), find a different pet sitter. Find one who actually cares about animals and who will communicate with you.
