I had booked a stay at this hotel during Labor Day weekend - completely paid for (under my name). My boyfriend and I did a road trip from Northern California and about 3 hours into our drive, we realized that my boyfriend left his ID at home. We didn't think it was the end of the world, as long as I have my ID and the room is under my name, it shouldn't be an issue. Well NOPE. Front desk gave us the most difficult time. Front desk (PJ - I believe was his name) was extremely rude and wouldn't work with us. He asked my boyfriend questions like "how did you think it was okay to not have your ID" "What if you wanted to go to a bar? You can't do anything without one" which okay, fair points but who are you to ask personal questions? Our plan wasn't to go to bars. PJ spoke to us in a condescending tone and I immediately cancelled my stay and booked elsewhere in DTLA. We booked elsewhere and got checked with no problems. It seemed as if my boyfriend and I weren't good enough to stay at their hotel. Which is a shame because we both work so hard and wanted a cool stay in LA. Oh well. This is a great, trendy little hotel that is perfect for single travelers on a short stay. The hotel room is tiiiiiiiiiny, but it has a European aesthetic that is extremely well designed and makes exceptional use of every single inch of the space. Everything is very "smart" -- from the way you check yourself in at little kiosks upon arrival to the iPads you use to control the heat, lights, etc. in your room. There's a bar/restaurant downstairs that offers a really great breakfast that I highly recommend. The hotel has a great downtown location that is within walking distance to a number of restaurants, bars, and office buildings. But it IS in downtown LA. So you're also contending with homelessness, dog poop, and other urban challenges as well. But all things considered, this is a great little space that is well worth visiting if you just need a really clean, fun, and trendy space to crash while you're in town. read more

The decor is a bit racy so it's definitely not for children. There is no parking here which is a big downside, but I think the low cost makes up for it. The rooms are super tiny, if you have a lot on the agenda and are only going to be in the hotel rooms for sleep then it is perfect for you. If not you might feel a little claustrophobic. I only stayed here for one night so it wasn't a big deal but I would not be able to stay for longer. They're very strict with the mask policy you will need to have it on at all times if you're in the public areas. I go here a lot and what happened today was a first; a highly unpleasant experience so, I was shocked to see another review by AM and others describing subpar service and hospitality upon entry, just to stir the pot. I have had no issue complying with health/safety policy .I do however have a huge problem being spoken to in a condescending way. I have a J.D. from USC (I'm a local ) and always comply with policy of proof.I have had more vaccinations and negative test than you care to count.But there were 2 individuals who had a chip on their shoulder and threatened to not serve me even after I provided proof, because they didn't like the manner in which I presented my verifications an d claimed not to be able to see them, their feelings were hurt,saying I "threw it"lol! I put it hastily on the table because they had created a toxic environment .They refused to let me finish talking,after interuppting me several times ,and they twisted the events that actually happened, so be careful, they will FABRICATE what they need to. The hotel itself is overall nice, clean, cute. Love the citizen m brand. However this part of DTLA is beyond frightening. The area is a mess, lunatics and drug addicts everywhere. Did not feel safe at all, did not venture outside much, and when I did it was horrendous. The LA government has failed the city. Additionally the bar service was good but daft. They charge upwards of $50 for a mediocre bottle of wine, there is no room service. That is a total joke and if you take yourself down to the bar after a long work day, and ask for a few items to take up to the room they will refuse, or at least the unpolished guy working the bar did. Really Great customer service! The beds are super comfortable we stayed in their "comfy" room and there was not a lot of room to move around but good for a 2 night stay in Downtown. Laundo was fantastic, Drew's really cool and so was Mr. Barry, the manager was awesome--we watched him resolve a high emotional situation and it was a great thing to see. The vibe is very relaxed and chill, with high tech and a modern style. We loved the convenient check in/out process, the bar is really nice too. The gym is small but has an outdoor balcony which I enjoyed while doing my workout. The rooms are small and intimate. Towels and linen are clean, housekeeping is consistent and monitored by you through the room's ipad. The ipad will control media, temperature and the lights. Security is onsite at the entrance 24/7. Only issues are room service doesn't exist, so you can call in an order but will need to pick it up. The menu could've been a little better. Breakfast was 3.5/5 for taste, options, and value. No toiletries provided, tea or coffee which is usually standard. No hotel parking and unfortunately street parking is a mess so try to uber if possible. We stayed for 7 days, checked into another hotel and came back the next day for 4 more days to finish our holiday--we enjoyed the vibe that much! Overall one of my fav hotels so far. read more

I really love this hotel chain. I've stayed in the South Lake Union location and now the Los Angeles one. It is very clean and modern. I wish the bar had more vegan snacking options since I could not get anything but dessert (I wanted fries, crackers, wings, chips, anything). In Seattle, the housekeeping never came even though we requested them to come via the app. In the Los Angeles room, we could not get the TV to connect via Chromecast or Airplay even after following the provided instructions, which was a bummer. I really enjoy the blackout curtains and the design of the room. Everything flows well and the shower has nice water pressure. I always feel very safe and secure. Both of these locations did not offer parking or parking validation, so definitely add this as an expense if you're bringing your car. It was $38 per night in the lot next to the hotel, but hey, that's downtown for you! read more

Second time I visit this hotel. The first time I had a good experience and I was aware of the check in process. I arrived for my second visit and proceed to check in only to be asked by Tai to wait because there were people before me who needed to check in. My partner and I then proceeded to ask how long the wait was and she replied 15 minutes. We told her we would be sitting in the lobby. Time passed and we began to watch as new guest would arrive and be checked in by her. Confused, we followed up to only be given rude responses and no clarification as to why she asked us to wait. Excellent service!! The hotel seems to be on par with what most people would consider quality today, but the only reason I'm writing this review is Lando. It was about 1:30AM and I was walking around the bar Looking for staff and couldn't find anybody. Lando seemed to be working check-in at the time and could see that I needed help. After a polite inquiry from Lando, I explained my desire for a hot water with lemon. He immediately popped behind the bar, poured a hot water and disappeared into the kitchen to briefly return with some lemon. This kind of performance from employees in the service industry today can ironically be hard to find. In recent experience, most places I visit, someone working Lando's position would just tell me, "sorry. I don't know where the bartender is." So, they could get back to doing the least possible until they're shift was over. So, thank you to Lando and all of the other very kind associates that I interacted with at the hotel. Unlike any hotel experience I've ever had. Me and my girlfriend love minimalistic/trendy places, and CitizenM couldn't have been better. The check-in and rooms are techy, the aesthetic is intriguing, and the staff is super nice and helpful. We paid more for the higher room with the view, and it was definitely worth it on the side we got. Looking at some of the other lower reviews, some don't seem to be fond of the Covid regulations, and I can see why; they're pretty staunch on the masks and vaccine documentation. At the same time though, so is most of downtown, so I don't see what all the fuss is about. The only take back I would have is the breakfast; while it's decent, it's definitely not worth $20 a person. Despite that, I would definitely stay at another citizenM again! read more

I love this hotel atmosphere and rooms are very nice, however I've been here for a few days and we've had our room cleaned twice but not once have they changed our sheets I can feel stuff on the sheets and can see hair on the bed I also woke up with a bug bite on my ankle. I saw a black thread in the corner of my bed so I just watched it each time they came in to clean to see if the thread was gone (meaning sheets were changed) and it has been there the whole time! It's truly a beautiful hotel but It does feel quite filthy to have them come in and not take trash out or change sheets. Not to mention I asked for some towels while my boyfriend was in the shower and they took my do not disturb sign off of my door and insisted they were going to bring towels when they clean which happened about 1 1/2 hours later. read more

Great new hotel in the DTLA area. My partner and I stayed here on a Tuesday night. Finding the hotel was easy, but as some have mentioned, there is no signage or anything letting you know where to park to check in or some obvious sort of loading zone if you arrive by car. This is a little annoying given that the intersection it's on is busy leading to driving in circles before one finds a solution. Tip/solution: there's a small alley way that wraps around part of the back of the hotel which had a small loading area (fits two/three cars max) Check in is either done by touch screen immediately entering or there is an attendant that can help. Oh, and if you booked through hotels.com there may be an issue checking in, just make sure that they check the already checked in tab, since for us our reservation automatically checked in to their system and our check in attendant had a difficult time finding our reservation until he checked the checked in inventory. Service at check in is super casual, think buying something at the Apple store. The lobby/lounge/work area is super big and there's so many places to chat, have meetings, eat, sit, lounge, etc than you can think of. It's endless nooks and open floor space. Now the room, note: we stayed in an accessible room on the 9th floor. Was large and well lit, with an amazing city view. The bathroom space was really large and the shower is incredible in that it's really the best water pressure rainfall pressure. Everything is controlled by iPad/their app or a few scattered light switches. The only thing is that sometimes we wanted only parts of the room lit but the switches had a whole room reaction. Super quiet, new, clean, and straightforward. Highly recommended. Let me say this though, it's not a grandma hotel and boomers may struggle with the whole concept, but otherwise super user friendly and fun. read more

First I would like to start off by saying, I stayed at this property in Boston a few years ago and fell in love with the hotel, and all the amenities. So recently I wanted to go to Los Angeles and saw this hotel and immediately booked it, so exited to stay at the same hotel I stayed at in Boston. However things took a huge down fall. My two friends and I checked into the hotel with absolutely no issues, my friends both had to show there ID and vaccination cards as that was a requirement. However the next night of our stay it was brought to our attention you were only allowed to have two guests in a room, after already staying one night, our room was already booked and charged if you were only allowed to have two guests we should have been told that from the start. Then we came home from a night out and forgot one of our room keys so, as any guest does you go to the front and ask for a room key well we were so rudely disrespected by the man at the front desk when he says to us "I know you have three girls in one room. I don't care but if there was a guy in your room that would be an issue. We wouldn't allow that." & I said "that's a very inappropriate comment to say to a young women." What kind of hotel offers this kind of customer service, absolutely horrible. Remind you WE DID NOT KNOW CHECKING IN THAT ONLY TWO GUESTS WERE ALLOWED. So the next day was our check out day however we decided to stay one more night and they allowed us too again with no issues, well by this time of booking another room the staff was horrible so rude so inconsiderate and honestly the worst hotel experience I have ever seen. They were pretty much harassing us by calling the room multiple times to see who was in the room, and if we asked for towels they wouldn't bring it... so needless to say I will never stay again... Then about a night ago I see another charge a month after checking out of this hotel for $500 dollars so as any person does they call and ask what does charges for. I talk to one manager that explains the iPad from the room is missing I quickly Jump to saying I would never steal an iPad from a room that's just not the kind of person I am and he says I will call you back and look into this more. After about five hours no one calls me back so I called back and I speak to a manager named Megan, Megan was one of the rudest most disrespectful person I've spoken to, she explains that the iPad was not found in the room, and I told her once again that I did not steal that iPad I don't need an iPad that only controls one room. She then goes into saying that the guests I was staying with we're not following the rules by only having two guest in the room and that they had it on cameras, and I quickly say that has nothing to do with the iPad as of right now are you accusing me of stealing because I had more than two guest in my room, she fights with me back and forth and then proceeds to give me a refund for the missing iPad. If the iPad was actually missing no place would give you a refund which led me to believe they targeted us for having more that two guests... I then get a receipt of the bill saying she refunded me with an email saying "Regrettably, due to the recent incident reported at the Los Angeles Downtown hotel, we will be unable to honor any future reservations for you or the additional guests in any citizenM hotel." This hotel needs to be trained on customer service and how to deal with there guests. I 100 percent would never stay here again or recommend this place to anyone. Worse experience of my life. 100 PERCENT NEVER STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE QUESTIONED, HARASSED, SEXUALIZED FOR BEING A GIRL AND CHARGED FOR THINGS YOU DID NOT DO AND OR NO... worst experience ever. Two of the best parts of this hotel are the lobby and service. The lobby has seating areas, food, and full bar. Great for breakfast, snacks, drinks, or just hanging out. The very best part of this hotel are the staff. Talk about friendly and accommodating. They we sincerely eager to make sure we enjoyed our 3-night stay. When we left, they asked if they could help with a rental car, reservations, or any other accommodation. The rooms, while compact, have everything you'll need. this is the worst and most ridiculous place i have ever been to in my life . i live in LA and i have some friends visiting in town , so i had ubered from west hollywood to downtown to link with them . upon arrival , they already did not let us in , someone with an attitude had to let us in .. how can someone check into the hotel if the door is locked ? and how are you supposed to use your key card to get in if you cant even get in to check in ? thats doesnt even matter , that wasn't my issue . as we were walking to the elevator , this lady on yall staff came over to me and refused to let me get on the elevator , telling me i had to register to a new room .. i was not staying at the hotel , i very clearly came in with people that were and they saw that . she said only 2 people could go upstairs and i need to register to a room , i told her i live in state and was not staying , i was with the people i had just came in with so they could check in and put their bags down . she told me i couldnt go up and i had to stay in the lobby , i didnt argue or fight it , i listened and said okay and sat down by the bar . after like 7 minutes of waiting for my people to come back down , i had gotten up and asked the man at the bar if there was a bathroom in the lobby (obviously bc they told me i couldnt go up and i wasnt trying to get into no altercation) he respectfully told me where to go and i thanked him and proceeded to go to the bathroom . as im walking out of the bathroom , the security guard had followed me in the bathroom . i walked passed him because i didnt want to assume he followed me there because he was also a black man like myself , but as im walking , i noticed he didnt even go in or use the bathroom , he was clearly looking for me and had no reason to be in the bathroom bc he kept following me when i walked past him . he asked me if i had a key , when i told him i wasnt staying there and i was waiting for my friends to come down from putting their bags down , he started saying stuff about me being suspicious for 'walking around' .. if you were to run the security tape from last night , youd clearly see the only walking i did after they told me i couldnt go up was to the bathroom . i told him all i did was go to the bathroom and asked if that was an issue ,he proceeded to tell me it was an issue because im walking around , which , doesnt make sense for 2 reasons .. the first reason , i didnt walk around , i went to the bathroom after sitting for some time and got followed to the bathroom , and the second reason , if its an issue to walk to the bathroom .. why even have a bathroom or a bar or stuff to look at in the lobby ? its not like the lobby was designed nd decorated for no one to look at it , so whats the issue ? the security guard kept trying to talk to me like i was doing something wrong when i had told him i had heard them the first time they told me not to go upstairs and i had already talked to the people who already knew i was with people from when i explained myself the first time they stopped me . i could understand slightly more if i actually looked suspicious or like i was going to do something , but i all i had on was a tan sweatsuit , dior slides , a dior backpack and my black skin . my face was not covered , i was not snooping around , i was not doing anything but minding my business and doing exactly what they asked me to do . my people had walked down as i started getting irritated with security for this profiling incident that i told him i hear him and just walked out . no escalation or nothing , i walked away not them , security literally watched and followed us out .. it feels ridiculous even saying this , but i 100% feel like i was racially profiled by an establishment when it was almost all black people working . idk if it was bc i came in with 2 white guys and if they didnt think i was with them or something but thats no excuse . if there was really an issue , they should have waited until i left the bathroom to see if i was going to do anything and came up to me respectfully to ask whatever they needed to because all that would have happened was me going to sit right where i was before i went to the bathroom and i would have had no problem explaining again but that didnt happen . yall just assumed you knew what you thought was going on and acted on it. the guy with the red shirt and tattoos up to his neck was the ONLY respectful staff member besides the bartender. 10/10 do not recommend this establishment. go ahead and stay at the intercontinental or marriott if you want to stay downtown or mr c or the edition if you want to stay in west hollywood .. read more

Incredibly friendly staff and fun decor. My partner and I stayed for 6 nights at CitizenM DTLA and enjoyed it from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The staff was warm and friendly, we felt more like a friend visiting than a hotel guest. The lobby and rooms are incredibly cute and you'll find plenty of spots for the perfect Instagram shot. We slept like babies in the king beds thanks to the black out curtains, the rooms were very quiet and peaceful too. In the mornings it was so refreshing standing under the waterfall shower with the perfect mood lighting. The location was perfect as well! PS get an oat milk vanilla latte, they make them perfect at the bar! read more
