I was only in town for one night so it was fine for me.. it was cute and clean. They also had a bar downstairs. Very trendy pop art design in the lobby. Definitely an interesting place to hang out. I loved my stay here. The staff was super friendly and check in and check out was super easy. Definitely recommend downloading the app. It makes everything easy breezy. I love how customizable the room was with the iPads in the room. You could customize the lights in terms of brightness and color, the window shade and curtain, the TV, etc. Also, the iPads have the answer to literally any question you can have during your stay. Down to "Who made that piece of art on the wall?" It's incredible. The bed is huge and super comfy. Not a place to stay with a family but for one or two people, it's perfect. Be prepared to tetris things around if you have a lot of luggage or you have multiple people. There is not a ton of counter space so you have to be efficient if you don't travel light. read more

ROOMS The rooms are very small, filled with only basic essentials. Reminded me of my room on my last cruise I took. Its very cozy and better for a single or couple traveling together. This is not meant for families. Standup shower, not bathtub and a square toilet that is a little too modern for my taste...comes with a toilet brush that you'll definitely need. There is a small safe and a very small mini fridge, but don't expect placing a 2 liter of coke in there..might not fit. Ironing board is not available in the room. You must take an elevator to select floors that has one ironing board thats shared amongst the guests. It has a creepy vibe out of a Stanly Kubrick film. Bring some hangers AMENITIES There is a gym. Its different than most gyms I've been in. They contain 2 Peleton bikes and treadmills. The treadmills are odd and need getting used to. The weights are standard dumbbells up to 45lbs. The benches are odd and I have no idea how they work, so I gave up on them. Lastly they have one of those Mirror exercise wall units, but wasn't working. LOBBY/AREA There's plenty of seating and a small bar that serves food. The service can be quite slow, but you have the Grand Central Market a few blocks away that has lots of great choices to dine on. The overall area is "kinda" sketchy late at night, so I'd avoid traveling alone late at night. Daytime is okay to walk around, just use common sense or use one of those electric scooters and zip around even quicker to your destination. Shout out to Beba she was awesome, funny, and all around great bartender. We stood two nights and enjoyed every single night, the room was unique and super clean. I loved how hot the shower was, I respected the toilet having two buttons to push depending on what you went. It is unusual to have the sink outside of the toilet area. The room reminded me of being on airplane lol the coolest part was the iPad and how easy it was to control everything in the room (lights,tv,curtains) the bed and pillows are so soft and comfy which made sleeping so relaxing. I didn't take pictures of the room which I regret because it's truly a cool place to stay. The staff were amazing, so welcoming and kind. I liked how it was secure was night came you needed a key to get inside and also needed it to use the elevator. I definitely recommend staying here and I know on my next visit I will as well since it's so close to everything. read more

If you are a single traveler or couple, this is definitely the spot for you. The rooms are like the size of a dorm, but in my experience, everything is so clean and modern. Here's the tea: Bed-- A little hard but not uncomfortable. Bathroom--Tiny but AMAZING shower heads. Yup, plural. You get 2. And one is a rain shower. The other, adjustable. The sink is outside the bathroom. Room itself-- there is a curtain used as a separator from the bed to the bathroom area. There are outlets everywhere, a mini fridge, and the iPad that allows you to adjust the light and open the curtain. Hotel lobby--Super chic and cute. There are couches, tables for those who need to work on the computer, a bar area with booths and chairs, offices, very nice public bathrooms, and a microwave!!! Hotel Features-- A gym that includes a patio on the top floor, and a steam room, to steam your laundry. Also, there were offices for meetings, but I don't know how to get into that. After 8 PM you need your card key to get into the hotel because it locks. Neighborhood-- You're near skid row so yea, a decent amount of homeless folks a block or two away from the hotel (keep in mind all of LA is pretty much like that though I'm high tourist spots). You're also right by a Little Tokyo (which was pretty safe!), which is a really cool area filled with Japanese culture. Like any hotel if you come in early, your bags can be held before your room is ready. Breakfast buffet in the morning is $20 bucks (The chocolate croissant is awesome), and there is cute art and books everywhere. I'm originally from New York, and to be honest I really want to stay at Citizen M here in my own town, Boston, and other places I plan on visiting. I really enjoyed my stay! read more

Nice, clean, & affordable. My partner and I like doing mini staycations. We just wanted something nearby and not crazy expensive. The location is great & walking distance to restaurants, bars, and shops. The check-in process is different but was easy to follow. Their main area is a great space to hang out. When we came back from dinner, we noticed a bunch of the guests were just lounging around like they were in their own living room. The rooms are quite small. But for us, we found it comfortable. Everything is controlled thru an iPad in the room or thru their App- which didn't work for us. If you're looking for luxury, this place isn't it. This is like getting a cool little room with bells & whistles. During the week we paid under $200 for 1 night. We just booked for a wknd night and it's $228. If you want the "city views" it's more. This hotel isn't the tallest & surrounded by taller buildings. Not sure what kind of amazing city view that would be. The staff were friendly enough. and the LED lights were neat. read more

I had a great stay at this hotel. I know there are some horrible reviews online about homeless in the area. Do not let that deter you if you have a reason to be in downtown LA because this hotel is great. I didn't think it was worse or different than anything else in the area surrounding the hotel compared to other areas in DTLA. Just be smart. Like I am a solo female, so I got dinner before dark, before heading to the hotel for the evening so I could just stay in. So, onto the actual hotel! I loved my small pod room. I was traveling alone but felt very safe and secure. The pillows were so comfortable. The iPad was fun. The lights, electric blinds, etc. were fun. My heater was a little noisy. My only advice to the hotel is please add a gluten free item or two to your bar/evening menu. None of the items were safe for me to eat because I have celiac disease. The lobby was stylish and had yons of seating to relax, work, etc. They had good snacks for purchase. My stay was personal/business (I work downtown but have a horrible commute so I just get a hotel once in a while for a break). I would definitely stay here again. read more

Very modern decor. Each room is made from a shipping container, so they are narrow and also not very long. The right space is well designed, but still, it's tight. There is little room for one piece of luggage, much less two.... There is an iPad in the room that controls everything, TV, curtains, even the color of the room lighting. Check in is automated with multiple stations in the lobby to sign in. Staff was quite helpful and efficient. Very cool! This is a hip little hotel w/ inexpensive micro-rooms. We stayed here because we needed a place to flop after seeing a show at the nearby Regency Theater. When you know you're not even going to get into your room until 1am and you're driving home the next day, this place is PERFECT. First of all, the hotel is located near Skid Row in a sketchy part of LA so you will see a homeless person or two, or more. I'll start with finding a place to stay in DTLA. We found two hotels. We canceled one because the reviews were downright scary and CitizenM had great reviews. Location is great and the streets are bustling throughout the day; evenings are much quieter. Staff upon check-in were super friendly and informative. The place is colorful and trendy and has a lot of seating. There is so much to see as we sat in 'living room' taking it all in. Rooms are so well appointed. Yes, they are small but they don't try to hide this fact. They're designed for fun and efficiency. The bedding was divine!!!! Loved the window day filters and black out blinds. Bring your laptop or tablet and you can cast your entertainment onto their screen. AC was easy to use with their mini iPad control center. I felt like I was in a mini rainforest in the lovely shower which had nicely scented shower gel/shampoo. They also provide a very nice hair conditioner. Water from the sink faucet is filtered and tastes so good which was nice because we didn't have to keep purchasing bottled water. There are also water refill stations in hotel too. The gym is GREAT!!!! It is also well appointed. I didn't need anything more than what it provided. Everything and everywhere was ...Clean! Clean! Clean! The breakfast is spectacular and will please the vegan to the carnivore. We had cocktails and light bar food first night and no complaints. This was my second stay at a CitizenM my first in NYC and this time in Downtown LA. I was here for a combination work & travel trip. I love the technology CitizenM uses from booking their rooms via their app, ease of check-in - my room was ready before official check in time which was great for me to drop off my stuff, but still be able to head back and take 2 Zoom calls from my room and the Ipod in the room to control the temperature, lighting, TV, streaming no other hotel has this technology. On Friday I also had a long zoom meeting from my room and was very quiet, their breakfasts are great, a wide variety of food & loved the fresh avocado each morning. The lobby is full of activity, lots of people working, socializing, the bar area is hub of activity day & night. Their king size beds are very comfortable with duvet, lots of storage in a somewhat small space - CitizenM is great for solo traveler, couples, but also saw a family with a small child in the hotel. While in the Downtown LA area stay at CitizenM, easy access to variety of activities in town. read more

Really nice hotel in a great location in DTLA. Yes, the rooms are small - but they are extremely clean, and you're also paying less because of it. I'm 6'2" and was comfortable in the bed. There's plenty of common area to work in, and it's very comfortable. Perhaps a secret bonus to the smaller rooms is that since they are small and only fit two people, you won't have big parties in rooms next door and you'll get a good night's sleep! Staff are also great. The only small things you should keep in mind is although there is shampoo in the shower, there is no soap or body wash (so bring some), and there is no iron in the room (but there are locations you can iron). The hotel itself is clean and stylish on the inside and a good budget option However, the area is not safe after dark. During the day it's ok, but after 6pm there are lots (and lots) of homeless people everywhere. The rooms are efficient and fun and the staff is welcoming. However the beds are definitely on the stiff/firm side. It's not comfortable if you're a side sleeper, so just be forewarned. The staff acknowledged this as well when I brought it up. Citizen M hotel was a very trendy and cool vibe! Staff was friendly and available 24x7. It was clean and fresh! The size of the rooms are intentionally compact but you have enough space for everything you need: king size bed, nice size shower, large flat screen tv, fridge, full length mirror. The hotel was on a convenient location. Close to freeways, shopping and food options. The downside was parking is limited to street parking with a number of rules (ex:2hr parking) or expensive parking garages ($38/night). read more

Booked a room with a view weeks in advance. We arrive and were told that all the rooms with a view are booked out, so they ended up downgrading us to a room near the bottom floor. Thankfully, we had a great view of hobos walking around across the street. The receptionist wasn't even sure that we would get refunded the difference, making it seem like it was on us that our booking wasn't honored. The receptionist gave us a very "take-it-or-leave-it" attitude and seemed more annoyed at us than we were at them. No recourse or compensation was offered for the error that occurred on the hotel's part (what a surprise). Additionally, we get to our room and there's a $40 beverage charge for no apparent reason. The room didn't even have any beverages in the fridge, nor any complimentary waters in the room, which is the bare minimum. This is the first and last time we will be staying at any CitizenM location anywhere. Would not recommend this hotel chain to anybody. read more

The only gripe is no attached parking. There are several lots under 500 feet away but most have an out time of 6am. Obnoxious I know but this is the reality we live in. There is one covered lot that offers hassle free overnight parking. My suggestion with this lot is to lose your ticket. You'll end up paying less. Weird advice I know but trust me. Now onto the venue... Amenities are abundant. 24-hour bar. Helpful concierge. Complimentary buffet from 6am-11am. Meeting rooms galore. Lounge seating for days. The room is fully integrated through an iPad. For those not familiar, the iPad controls everything but the water. You can totally set yourself up for a peaceful stay. Highly recommended... read more

CitizenM isn't for everyone. If you're traveling as a family, you're better off staying at a traditional hotel. But if you're a couple on a getaway or solo on a business trip, CitizenM seems to be the right type of hip hotel for you. The first time we stayed at CitizenM in Seattle, I felt in love with the concept of having a tiny space but utilizing every space possible. You get a huge window right next to the bed in every room and overall is pretty clean. I have no complain whatsoever. I love how the iPad that they provided can control every setting in the room. You even get 2 types of shade settings for the big window. The hotel smells great, the bar staff was very nice. For this location, the gym is very small. I first discovered CitizenM while booking a trip to NYC for NYE. Their Bowery location was available for a good price so I jumped on it and the stay was awesome. When I had an event to go to in the DTLA area that was ending late and saw there was a CitizenM nearby to stay, there was no second guessing. Check in/check out is a breeze. Each one should take about 5 minutes max. Concierge said a hiccup occurred when I checked in and he had to fix something. Took about 5 minutes for the resolve and I even got drink tickets for the 5 minute wait. This is a modular hotel. Every room is the same and just enough for one or two people to sleep and shower in. If you get cabin fever there's plenty of space in the lobby to relax, especially with the playlist the hotels have. With all the food available in the area you can also grab something and enjoy it in the lobby or grab something from the kitchen that's open 24 hours. I'll continue to stay at CitizenMs if I ever roam into a city with one. Great hotels! read more

What a dump if you ever been to Europe that's what these rooms are like. It's owned by a European where people live in small boxes. Cheap modern and IKEA in a closet. I mean closet I can stretch my arms out and touch the walls. The toilet and the shower are like an RV practically on top of each other. The whole room is like an RV. I paid $360 bucks( with LA taxes it is over 500) it ain't worth it. Also they don't have any parking. At check-in there's a young person helping you just like when you check your bags at the airport you have to check yourself in It's a dump with a lot of modern stuff sprinkled on it. Never never stay here unless you like to see the future of socialism in the USA. They should rename the place M Comrade. The beds are rock hard, and the heat doesn't work. Welcome to the Soviet union. Whoever thought of this concept is making hand over fist as the price is of a typical hotel, but the accommodations are cheap. My daughter lives close by, and so I was looking for a place to stay while I visited her. My needs were somewhat simple (in my opinion). I wanted a clean room, with a good shower (also clean), which was comfortable and affordable. Well, I guess those weren't exactly simple needs, but definitely the items that were most important to me. I very quickly figured out that decent hotels in downtown Los Angeles are really very expensive. I was willing to accept that fact (expensive), as long as all of the other boxes were checked. I happened upon a listing for this place. It looked pretty good in the pictures, the location was less than a mile from my daughter's apartment, and the price was far cheaper than any other "decent" place I viewed. I figured there must be a catch, so I scoured through the previous reviews. The most common points seemed to indicate that this might be my perfect place. Cleanliness seemed to be a reoccurring descriptor. FANTASTIC! some of the so-called negatives didn't factor into my decision, at least they weren't concerns for me. A few reviews mentioned the neighborhood not being the greatest. Really? You think? I mean, no offense to the locals, but this IS downtown L.A. for Pete's sake! Besides, my daughter lived here safely, without incident for 4 years (less than a mile away), so I felt safe. It's not as if I would be going on a daily hike with toddlers, or cases of jewelry, or anything like that. The other somewhat consistent "grievance" in the reviews seemed to be the size of the room. It's definitely a little smaller than most hotel rooms I've stayed at, but the most important thing to remember here is that this is easily, by far, the most efficient use of space I have ever seen in my entire life at a hotel. The creators of these rooms were most likely geniuses. I'm very serious. They were, at the very least, expert designers who took their craft very seriously. There was not a single worn out, broken, dirty, scuffed, or even blemished item in the room. It seemed to be designed for maximum comfort, maximum simplicity, and maximum use of space. Perfect, because that's all I needed! The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, certainly at a hotel (if management could direct me to the place to purchase one, I'd be sincerely grateful)! EVERYTHING in the room is controlled by a single, very easy to use iPad (even easy for a 53 year old man). Lights, shades, TV, everything, all controlled by a very cool iPad. The room was so dark and quiet that it almost felt like I was in some sort of sensory deprivation chamber (Aaron Rodgers would have been proud). They even designed all the doors for the rooms not to be "slam-able" which was Awesome. I literally never heard a door, a person in the hall, an ambulance, a car horn, any noise from outside at all. This was DTLA, how the heck did they do that?! Also, check in, simple. Check out, simple. Parking? Well it was about a short block away and a little expensive. But jeez, big friggin deal. Certainly not unexpected in a big, major city. Bottom line... remember exactly what the important items are to YOU. Sure the rooms are smaller, but they designed them specifically that way for efficiency, and most importantly, they pass those savings directly on to you! I'm very impressed with this place. Spent a night at citizen hotel with my significant other, the decor is very appealing. Room was clean, artistic, colorful, I loved it! Everything in the room from lights, tv, the curtains, was all controlled by a tablet. I have to say, the room was a lot smaller then other hotels I've stayed at. There was no bar of soap or conditioner provided in the room. All you had was shampoo. Food prices are high for the portions given. I would not recommend buying food from the hotel. Even outside food brought back to the hotel, not a ton of space to set up and eat, very small space. . It was a unique experience. Would give "3.5 STARS" if I could. Additional information: The parking lot right across the street will not allow you to add more time to your ticket. I had to set my alarm for 6am, go down stairs and purchase a new ticket to prevent my car from being towed away. read more

The room was smaller than I anticipated, but I enjoyed the vibe (mood lights!) and the convenience of controlling all the room features from the iPad. Blackout shades were amazing in making the space pitch dark. The lounge area is vibrant with comfy chairs for working on your laptop or enjoying your meal.
