Super exclextic place! Our first trip to DC and we picked CitizenM for our long weekend getaway. The self check-in service was great, we quickly got our room keys as soon as we walked in thanks to their easy to follow tablet system. Our room was super modern and a space saver. Everything was compacted to fit perfectly and be efficient . We enjoyed all the amenities like the different color mood light settings that we could easily control via the rooms tablet. Also, the ambiance room music was a nice touch. The convenient tablet also controlled the TV, dark and light shades and the rooms bathroom and shower lights. It was a lot of fun setting the different moods. The bed was super comfy and luxurious we rested very well in it each night after spending all day exploring DC. I really enjoyed all the art around the common areas within the hotel. It made it feel more homey and less sterile than other traditional hotels. It also had a really nice bar and breakfast area. Overall, we had a great experience and I would definitely come back for a future stay! read more

I've stayed at two different citizenM hotels now, the first being in Seattle - which is what made me book this one when we had an overnight in DC. I have to admit, it was not as nice as my experience in Seattle. This one just seemed a little more rundown, the shower leaked water on to our floor, and there were some stains on the upholstery behind the bed / a broken part of the bed. It had similar / the same amenities as the Seattle one, but at roughly $200 for one night, I would've expected slightly better. That said, the room overall was clean, the bed comfortable, and all the tech in our room worked. read more

99.9% of the staff was incredible (minus a gal that I encountered in the middle of the night when some of our colleagues arrived late). Other than that, the staff, the food, the vibe, the bar, the space, the bed, the room, the property - all above my expectations! Even invited a friend to dine with me for breakfast one day bc the buffet variety was well worth the $20 added to the stay! Everyone was cordial, and the location/proximity to this was great. Just keep in mind traffic getting down to the museums and White House during peak hours, & you'll be fine. You can also take a scooter! S/O to the bar staff. The guy who recently moved from Boston is a treat! And, everyone we encountered there was super kind (even when we didn't know we needed to buss our own dishes - oops)! Cool location in the NoMa area. Two blocks away from a Metro station. I will say there is a lot of movement in the area of business people during the day. But as with DC the homeless rate is high. So at night, depending on what you're use to, it could be a bit much. Typical CitizensM, high standard of clean rooms, facility, and modern. Just wish the lobby was a bit more quiet when you're trying to get work done. read more

Wonderful stay at CitizenM for a quick trip to D.C. From the super nice & helpful security guard, to the lady at check-in, the bar staff (through my entire overnight stay!), the cute room, all the tech amenities...A++ all around. Good luck with parking, but they do valet parking in conjunction with the Hilton across the street - $50+ though. Clean room, but the bed wasn't the most comfortable. High tech hotel within a few minutes of all of the monuments and museums. We had fun with the iPad - you could control lights, music, and blinds. Very interesting decor and atmosphere in the lobby but it was nice. They have a bar that is open until late. They also offer a free water refill there. The rooms were a bit small but accommodating and perfect for us as a couple just using it to shower and sleep. This stay definitely had us interested in sticking with the CitizenM chain and trying out their other locations. read more

I'm shocked at the poor reviews. CitizenM provided a nice comfortable stay at a decent price, especially for a last-minute reservation for me! There was a bit of a hiccup with the check-in as they lost access to the server due to their planned transition to the Marriott system. The staff had us wait in the lobby, gave option for storing luggage, and even offered free food or drink as they began to manually check people in. All the staff were very professional and polite during this ordeal. I did find the iPad control thing a little gimmicky. Because of the tech issues, there were times when the shades came up and down suddenly. There was no access to the room Chromecast. However, this only lasted during the tech downtime during the initial few hours of my stay. The rooms are quite small, but not terrible for solo/duo travelers and with thoughtful spaces built in for storage of stuff. Bed was firm and clean. Bathroom was also clean and well stocked. Shower worked well with good water pressure. No bathrobes but body and hand towels were provided. Little mini fridge and hair dryer worked well. I did end up using the breakfast buffet during my stay. I thought it was good quality for it being fresh and unlimited, open til 11am. There was a good assortment of cooked and cold foods. I loved that the teas, which were whopping $4 via room service, were available as well as brewed coffee. It's worth the $20 if you could stay for a while and enjoy it as a brunch experience. The whole lobby had a great ambiance and plenty of different types of seating as well as access to outlets. I do think the area, while fairly populated with many hotels, isn't the nicest to walk through at night. The hotel is very close to the NoMa metro station and Union Station is also maybe only 15~20 mins away by foot. read more

I stayed at Citizen M Noma in Washington, D.C. for a conference earlier this month. The location is super convenient and the hotel itself is really cute. I loved the décor in the lobbies, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I also appreciated that there's security in the evenings to guard the door--it made me feel safe. The room was smaller than I expected, more like a "cruise cabin" size--just what you need. I did enjoy the iPad in the room that lets you control the blinds, TV, and cleaning services--it was very convenient. My only downside was that there was a stain on the nightstand when I arrived, which was a bit off-putting. Overall, still a solid stay, and I'd give it 4 stars. read more

I like the high tech setting they have. They have a self check in/out system in the lobby when you walk in. The hotel reps are standing by in case you need help or have questions. There is a full bar in the lobby to order drinks a food on one side, and a relaxing area on the other side with couches, seated private cubies, and pillows. The rooms have a college dorm, or cruise ship cabin look and feel. Cute and small, but good size for one maybe two small people. When I opened the door to my room, it had a stale musty smell. If you've been on a cruise ship, then you know exactly what I am talking about. My bed was hard and uncomfortable, but I had tons of events planned and a heavy itenary, so I was only in it for a few short periods of time. There are no washcloths in the rooms for showering, so you must requests some at the front desk. The location is great! It's a 15 minute walking distance to Union Station. There is a couple of grocery stores, pharmacy, and tons of restaurants a few short blocks away. A train station two minutes away. Nightlife, clubs, and bars are a 20 minutes walking distance. I recommend public transportation, or car service when getting around, because parking is challenging and expensive. read more

I stayed at citizenM Washington DC NoMa for my birthday weekend, and unfortunately it turned into one of the most frustrating hotel experiences I've had. The biggest issue was the air conditioning. On the first night, the room became so uncomfortable that I had to move rooms around 2:00 AM. After being assured the issue was resolved, I continued to experience HVAC problems during the remainder of my stay. On my birthday, I woke up sweating because the room once again was not maintaining a comfortable temperature. Having your sleep interrupted multiple nights while traveling is frustrating enough, but it was especially disappointing during a birthday trip that was supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. The hotel later acknowledged that the HVAC issues and room move negatively impacted my stay. While I appreciate the staff's professionalism throughout the process, I was told a 25% adjustment would be provided and found that the credit applied did not appear to reflect the full amount that was communicated. At the end of the day, the issue isn't just about compensation. A hotel's most basic responsibility is providing a comfortable room where guests can sleep, and unfortunately that did not happen during my stay. Between multiple nights of HVAC problems, a room change at 2:00 AM, disrupted sleep during my birthday weekend, and an unsatisfactory resolution, I would not choose to stay here again. read more

I had a great experience staying at this hotel while I was in town for a conference. It was the most affordable option in the DMV (or I would have to go out to Silver Spring). The location is incredibly convenient. Red line metro, two blocks away from the metro. Harris Teeter and Potbelly right across the street and CVS one block away. Numerous dining options in the near vicinity. The room itself was comfortable. A bit compact (think like a NYC studio), but comfortable. The staff were all very kind and helpful. Anybody that rates this anything lower than 4 stars has never heard of the chain Citizen M, or clearly didnt read their description before booking. These hotels are known to be perfect for single or duo travelers because of their size. My boyfriend and I were in DC for 6 days and loved our stay at this hotel. The bed was large and comfortable, the employees were super fun and nice, the lobby was always clean and it was particularly big. Yes the rooms are small but the amount of seating in the lobby makes up for it. When we would eat in the hotel or order uber eats, we would always eat in the lobby and had no issue with that. The NoMa metro station was located within a 7 minute walk. The area is nice and quiet. There is a McDonalds, Moe's, Chipotle and CVS within 5 minute walking distance. This was the most affordable hotel in the area by far. About 25 minute train ride to museums and landmarks. Loved everything about it. Will be using Citizen M in the future! read more

This is my second time staying here and I love the fact that they have a 2 PM check-in and earlier if available. You can you check yourself in on a kiosk upon entry so people that might have social anxiety or don't want to deal with people it's perfect. Rooms are small but it's cute and perfect for solo travel. I love the fact that the rooms are high tech and really nice and clean. They provide a tablet that controls everything. I am a huge fan of the room's features and you can change the lights in the room whatever color you want. Mine is pink currently lol The staff is always very nice and helpful if needed. read more

It's so sleek and modern. The staff was polite and helpful. It smells wonderful at all times. The bed was humongous. You control everything in your room through the iPad, such as lighting, TV, blinds, temperature and more. It has so many nice little touches such as an iron room on our floor, with a traditional ironing board and commercial steamer for your clothes. There's also a QR code for parking that's very helpful. The area is great because of the convenience of the Harris Teeter grocery store, which has a hot buffet in the mornings. Starbucks, a local coffee shop, Ted's Bulletin, a Mediterranean restaurant and CVS are all within walking distance to name a few. Self checkout was incredibly easy, completed through the iPad on the desks in the lobby. There were also plenty of spaces in the lobby, setup like a co-working shared space community to get work done. read more

This place is weird, and probably over priced. Good: - great neighborhood lots to do - great technology. Color led control in your room. Everything through the app/tv was convenient. - clean and modern room with nice lighting and comfy beds - weird place (good and bad) Bad - bar service was poor - bar service is confusing. Are you serving food or not? Til when? - I wanted a coke and the dude at bar told me to by a plastic bottle from the fridge. No soda on tap? - breakfast is not good. Go down the street to any restaurant for less expensive and tastier food. - weird place I didn't think much about the name of this hotel until I checked in. It feels like some book about a distopian government where people don't have names, just letters. Citizen "m" haha. Why do I say this? Well first the rooms are tiny. Like little communist pods. They are clean and nice. But still very CCCP vibe. Everything is controlled via computer. You get exactly what you need; nothing more or less. It's quite efficient honestly. So what was crazy was the elevator voice. It had an accent that was out of place, all things considered. Which, is fine. No problem. It's just weird! And fit the citizen "m" vibe perfectly. Haha all in all it kinda felt like I was being programmed or something. Just creepy. Would never stay again. But no concrete gripes other than it seemed like wall-e mixed with demolition man (the movie). Also check in and checkout were kind of annoying. The hotel smells nice upon walking in, I loved that! I went to the bar in the evening and Nia was my bartender. She made a few drinks including strawberry lemon drop that was well balanced with flavor and alcohol. I also ordered the nachos which were the perfect late night snack. The 4 stars is because I think the menu could benefit from a few more options. Also, there was a patron playing her music loud from her pjone which kind of messed up the ambiance as it seemed to be a quiet classy setting. If there was a zero , I would give it a zero . Small tiny rooms with no privacy. This hotel is for hipsters. Will never book with booking.com . Rather pay extra. Room service was delayed. Had to wait an extra hour. Than you have these ghetto hood rats talking loud in the lobby in their phones . The front desk morning person who worked in the front was useless. She and house keeping delayed our room service. This morning I went to get coffee and when I came back , the front door was locked and there was issues with the elevator. I liked it so much for a work meeting, in my attempt to book a Society M conference room I found the hotel and staff unable to even respond to my inquiry for a booking. I was told to write an email to the hotel, of which was never replied. Upon asking staff three times, and receiving three different answers I was then told "well it must be booked." The inefficiency and ad hoc nature does not seem optimal, therefore will not recommend this hotel for functions. read more

DON'T COME HERE EMPLOYEES ARE THIEVES. Worst customer service ever. I left my jewelry in the room, called 24 hrs after checking out, and they said they found my jewelry. I came to pick it up; they had all my jewelry but a gold heart necklace I have had for 3 years that was very sentimental to me. Obviously someone pocketed it!!! The manager was no help and did not care. I kept telling the manager I left it in the SAME PLACE as the other ones, and she was not cooperative!!!! Absolutely IRONIC how I got my $8 Amazon earrings and a necklace with my initial on it but not the nicer one!!!! I traveled all the way back to the hotel out of my way for absolutely nothing. A bunch of BS! *** And yes, it's my fault for leaving my jewelry, but why say you found my jewelry if you're gonna pick and choose which one you gonna steal. absolutely insane. Don't even stay anywhere else, seriously! So affordable, all you need, and great location. We have a young one and we don't normally sleep on beds so it's really unnerving to sleep on one as we're afraid she'll fall off the bed (which has happened before) but the way this one is set up, there are three walls all the way around the XL bed! It's really comfortable!! Also flooring throughout, we take our shoes off indoors wherever we can but usually don't in hotels as the carpets are so gross, BUT not a problem here!! It's so nice to be barefoot and have your floor area be clean and nice. Also if you happen to spill something, a simple wipe and boom, clean :) One thing we were worried about was if there was a microwave or not and how their system is set up (bare minimum to keep the cost low) it's impossible to call ahead and reach a staff member. However when we arrived at this particular citizenM there was a microwave for the guests to use in the dining area!! So nice when you want to heat up a snack or something :) Breakfast, yeah sure it's $19, but it was really good, like plain but tasty regular items. Plus nice touches like avocado, smoked salmon, thick cut bacon, and even little glass jars of ketchup and honey! Also if you get the breakfast it includes a drink, so you can essentially save $6 for a morning coffee :) also they have a water dispenser that is free for the guests that dispenses both still and sparkling water, you can access it 24/7 too :) they really thought of everything at this hotel :) Location is great you can walk there from union station or just catch a cab/Uber. The NOMA metro station is a short 7 min walk away, a grocery store just a stones throw away, and a CVS too! There's even a fairly nice gym on the basement floor! Staff were great, like just regular human beings, they're not there to make you feel bad for not tipping, just genuinely nice enough :) hard to find these days You might think, "oh what a small room" trust me it's totally big enough, it's really well thought out and laid out, honestly, you're in DC, you're there to be out and about anyways!! But you can totally chill there and have a great time :) it'll make you rethink about how much space or things you really need, minimalism for the win!! read more

Really enjoyed my stay here. Rooms are small and cozy (not a problem; very obvious in photos so not sure why the other reviews are so bad), the place is fun and clean. Not a traditional hotel experience, feels more like a hostel downstairs where you can meet others and then private rooms upstairs. It's a European chain which explains the concept of the rooms. This is probably the first time I really disliked a hotel (unless I was staying in a Motel 6). This place is expensive for what you get. Before you even get to the room, you have to check yourself in. Don't expect to find a check in desk - there is none. There may be someone there to help you work the computer to check in if you need help. Next, the room - it is very narrow, kind of what you would get on a cruise. The bed was surrounded on 3 sides by walls and window. Thankfully I wasn't sharing the room with anyone because if they were in bed with me, they would have literally had to crawl over me to get out. The bed was comfortable however the pillows were those very long pillows and about 10 inches thick. It was impossible for me to get comfortable. The shower was also incredibly small - toilet and shower with no room to move around. Everything worked with an ipad - room temperature, TV, etc. I suppose if you're Gen Z you might like it. However I think it's much easier to pick up a remote and just turn the TV on rather than messing with an ipad. In addition, my last morning, I could not turn on the TV. Maybe they program the ipad that way. I wasn't checking out until 1030 a.m. and I would have liked to watch the news while getting ready. Nope. No can do. I tried to call the front desk to complain with my cell phone (ha, ha, there is no front desk) and I ended up getting the other CitizenM hotel in DC. It wasn't until I was about to leave that I saw a phone imbedded in the wall (black wall, black phone - it was easy to miss). The shower stream was weak, the towels were like sandpaper however I was excited to see there was an iron right across from my room except the iron was so high tech, I couldn't get it to work. read more

The weirdest hotel I've ever stayed at. Felt like a college dorm that everything is controlled by an iPad that lags every time you try to do something. Plus this weird ass chucky doll that blinked at me. So I put that thing in the drawer and never looked at it again. Of course they didn't have parking, so I had to resort to street parking. The staff said we can park on the street at night and then I woke up to a lovely dc ticket. Breakfast was not worth $19. Scrambled eggs and gross bacon. The hotel is also not in a great area. I got panhandled every time I left the hotel. It's also mega hood up the block from the hotel. But the worst part was being directly in line with the offices next to you. So the lovely folks in the office got a nice show when I got out the shower because my blinds were stuck open because the iPad wouldn't close them. read more

Rooms are incredibly small. They may be adequate for one person. At the end of our room was a bed that went from wall to wall... and no, that doesn't mean big. The person, in bed next to the window has to crawl over your partner to go to the tiny, not very private bathroom. One small uncomfortable chair. Most things have to be controlled by a furnished IPAD. For example, TV, drapes, room temp. TV channels were very limited with no TV guide or closed captioning. No microwave, no coffee maker.
