This shop had caused unnecessary stress due to finding the unauthorized charges! Our quoted prices for today's services was $157.00, and I left a $40.00 tip...but my big mistake was agreeing to an emailed receipt, not one in hand! When I arrived home & reviewed my bank account & emails, I realized I had been charged $375.00. Looking at the emailed receipt, it shows services $175.00 (wtf) Tip $200.00 (wtf) and $20.00 to some unknown prepaid debit card WTF I wonder how much has been put on that card over the years? Check your receipts!! Of course I was told after numerous texts & calls that at 6:00 that there wasn't any manager to help me. By the time the owner called, that I had to locate, bc no one reached out to me. I had then received an invoice with a $160.00 credit! It makes no sense, how did my numbers of $157.00 & $40.00 tip that I input into that bank terminal, with my PIN number become $375.00 out of my bank account?? See below! Beware...they skirted around trying to explain, but the receipts below tell the truth. I'd never return to this establishment & I certainly don't recommend it to anyone else that expects transparency & honesty. I then receive the refund email with the attachment below! Ok citrus let's cover up your shops misdoings with the fact that my $40 tip was entered as $200?? Would it had been too much to ask to get a simple invoice stating.., Service $157.00 Tip $40.00 Total. $197.00 Charge to you debit card is $197.00 That pretty basic I believe! Citrus Salon is wonderful, but the real reason I keep coming back is Karalynne. She is the best colorist I have ever seen, and her haircuts are just right. Karalynne is thoughtful and meticulous, which means that my super thick, fast growing and unruly hair actually looks salon fresh even after 8 weeks. I have dark brown hair that was not graying gracefully, until Karalynne. She has been able to dial in just the right color so that my grays somehow look more like highlights, while keeping my hair from going all brassy. She is a miracle worker. The salon is really nice too. The rinse stations are actually comfortable. I love the Aveda tea, and they have a great selection of Aveda products available. read more

The salon is clean and has an open concept. It's one of the nicer salons and is located in a prime location for Martinez. The stylists at Citrus are "Aveda trained" with what appears to be continuing education, but nothing spectacular. The staff are young and friendly enough, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. I've taken my mom in for a basic trim, color, and style costing $300-$400. Her hair doesn't even reach her shoulder and when I say it's a basic cut, I honestly mean basic. We kept returning because of the proximity and hoped to have a better experience since I got a different hairdresser each time. However, paying this much for a barely cut service on hair that short is insane. When it's time to settle up, the stylist will hand you an iPad to complete your transaction and hover over you to make sure you choose from the higher percentage of pre-selected tip options. Yes, I said hover because that is exactly what they do. This has happened to us every time. The whole experience is unpleasant, especially when you're unsatisfied with the cut. You're paying for a well-established name brand that claims to be plant-based. Research that farce yourself. While it's better than other well-known brands, it isn't the best. Finding a good hairdresser is challenging for the women in my family. We have long, thick, some wavy-some curly hair. Stylists will usually attempt to thin it out, which is not what we ask for. We all have a simple and clear request, which is to trim the hair, and just give it some layers to keep the shape, but that's not what we get. This seems to be a consistent issue with stylists overall and is incredibly frustrating. I suspect it has to do with the demographics. With that said, if you have thick hair with a curl above 3a, then I would think twice about choosing this salon, but if you have thin, mostly straight hair and enjoy blowouts, then this is the salon for you. read more

Spent the afternoon here the other day as my regular hair stylist has just moved to this location. Place is easy to get to, parking is a little tricky because it gets really busy on the Main Street, but it is free on the weekends so that was a nice plus. I was instantly greeted, and asked if I wanted some tea right away. I felt at home and the place is so well kept. Everyone here is so nice, and welcoming even if you aren't getting your hair done by them. Definitely recommend this salon. read more

Caveat: I've only gone to Aveda salons since I was 22. I was absolutely gutted when Salon Amour closed and figured I would try this one. So far, it's been just okay. Here are some ways they can improve: You have an employee there who has such a freaking potty mouth it's affecting your business. Maybe she is young and just wants to sound cool, but she sounds like an idiot. I don't want to hear the F word constantly (and I mean constantly) during my hair washing. Give me a break. I know we're all post-COVID and everything, but come ON. I'm a client, not your bestie. Be a grown up. Second, she didn't rinse the product out of my hair (I have long, thick hair). Why bother if you aren't going to rinse it all out? The next day when I took a shower the product was all over my shower. I gave her a really good tip, too. She sucked at hair washing. Bottom line: don't charge people over $200 for personnel who clearly don't want to be there. I don't want to do the crappy parts of my job either (hair washing is boring and tedious, I get it), but layering on profanity after profanity is not the way to be an Aveda salon. Be better than that. I'm not a "Karen" who expects 100% perfection, and I definitely use my share of the F-word, but I do expect a professional environment when you claim to have one. read more

Plus I'm really here for the hair wash. Its the best part of seeing a stylist. Karen did an amazing job. She had me up and running in less than an hour. I loved my hair. I was bouncing that du all down the Blvd. My hair was so light and healthy and I'm obsessed with how amazing my hair smells after its done. I was so happy. I have been going to Karalynne for quite some time, and she always does an amazing job with my color, balayage, and haircuts. I have dark hair with very stubborn gray roots, so I go in for root touch-ups every 6 weeks. Karalynne always keeps my color looking fresh and natural. On top of that, I have dry, frizzy/wavy, textured hair, which can be difficult to manage. Karalynne really understands how to work with it, and she respects how much (or how little) I want to cut, instead of over-layering like other stylists in the past have done (which made the frizz and puffiness worse). The balayage always blends nicely, and I love the way the color grows out naturally. Karalynne also cuts my family's hair, including my sons, who also have thick, textured hair, and she handles it with ease. Not only is she very talented behind the chair, but she's very warm and knows how to make even the most nervous clients very comfortable. By far the worst and most expensive haircut of my life. And to add insult to injury, I feel that the "master stylist" was dishonest by curling my hair at the end to hide my botched hair. I didn't ask for styling and I let her know I just let my hair air dry, so it was confusing when she brought out the curling iron. I've been growing my hair out for years. She took off 2-3 inches in overall length which ia fine yard yard i asked for, but since I asked for layers, the shortest layer is now at my shoulders. It's choppy all over and uneven. Even in a pony tail there's a bunch or shorter and longer strands that refuse to blend in. Now to get it fixed I'll likely need to get 4-5 inches of overall length cut off. Not even the bangs I asked for are even. I called and emailed pictures of my hair, I was polite and patient, but when I asked what they could do. They said don't worry, the same "master stylist" will cut your hair again for free. Why would I want that?? I lost my time, my money, and worst of all years of healthy hair growth. And yes, I cried. It's nice inside, it's clearly upscale, so I hoped I'd get what I was paying for. NOPE! Horrendous. I have no idea what happened here because the reviews and pictures they post are good, but when I tell you I am embarrassed to leave my house without my hair in a bun or at least a headband, that's how you know it's bad. I'm not a vain person, but I feel like the dog that got shaved by the new groomer, shaking in its kennel with a stupid little bow attached to it as a consolation prize. The dishonesty is the worst part. It stings to give yourself over to an expert, trust them, chat with them, let them get to know you, and then get this in return. Edit: After a few back and forth emails, Citrus let me know that curls and waves at the end of an appointment are complimentary, but that they will now discuss how a client would like their hair styled during the consultation to avoid a misunderstanding like this in the future. Also, I should add that they very much tried to reschedule me with anyone of their stylists to fix my hair and that if it's beyond repair they might refund me, but that they've never had to do so. Yesterday, March 17, was my first time visiting Citrus -- my stylist was Alitza. Being high risk of COVID because of a genetic disease, I have not had my hair done since 2019. My first call to book the appointment was amazing. Kiely is a gem, I told her my hair issues and we booked with Alitza. I even told her I was high risk of COVID and she asked if I wanted the stylist to wear a mask, she can make a note. Those of you who are high risk understand how nice this offer is. Because this is a luxury service I told her there was no need, I also understand how difficult it is to move around with a mask. My appointment was amazing. Alitza is personable, knowledgeable, and definitely an asset to Citrus. Because I am 42, we did a gray blending with special highlights. I have hairloss from kidney failure and with her cut, you can't tell. Thank you so much Alitza, you performed a miracle yesterday. I wish Brad was still the City Manager, I would email him and tell him about my experience, more businesses and people need to treat disabled people like Citrus and Alitza. Let me just preface by saying: I hate getting my hair cut. Hate. It. I'm an awkward tongue tied mess when it comes to sitting in a chair for an hour and trying to make small talk, that I've always put off going 6 months (and in this case a year) at a time. And COVID had nothing to do with it. Until now. Well, I'm still awkward af but it was a much better experience than what I'm used to. Ha I decided to try out a new salon and cannot say enough great things! Citrus Salon is located in Downtown Martinez on Main St. They carry all Aveda products and customize hair color to your preference. They're also an eco friendly salon which is such a big plus in my book. My stylist, Elle, was sweet, skilled in her craft and knew exactly what I wanted. She put me at ease while in her chair and didn't miss a beat when I apologized for all of my awkward silences. LOL Citrus Salon's COVID-19 response is on point. I called the salon once I arrived and waited outside until Elle was ready for me to come in. Everyone comes in one at a time. They ask you the standard COVID questions, take your temp and have a little stand for hand sanitizer. Every one wears a mask and the stations are all spread out through the salon. I felt very secure with their safety measures. I also ended up buying the shampoo and conditioner Elle used in my hair and was thinking about getting a leave in conditioner, but she didn't think I needed it. I really appreciated her candor and liked the fact that she didn't try to upsell me on anything, like is sometimes done at other salons. It feels good to have found a new salon and stylist, as the stylist I usually go to would hardly ever listen to what I wanted and I'd end up having to ask her to fix it- which always sucks. I met Alitza and she was very personable and sweet. I loved that she had suggestions in addition to what my appointment had me scheduled for.
