When I got there, and their Master Stylist was able to review and get an idea of the style and color I was asking for . He was very thorough and able to explain in detail how they were going to style me and told me they have an opening I. 45 minutes. . Specialty cut and color can take about three to four hours for the coloring part to get the right color and based I. What was explained to me, I was pretty confident that they were really going to do an amazing job with my help. When I got back, I was late for the appointment but they didn't sweat me, since they just got done with the previous customer and needed to set up the station. When my stylist was ready, she was very sweet and really took care of me to make sure I get the cut and style I requested. The vibe of the salon was very personable and easy going. I really enjoyed the time care she put in to working. When she completed my hair, it looked exactly as I wanted. I booked my appointment the night before because I suddenly had the strong urge to get a haircut. My hair had been looking dull and dry, and I really wanted to get rid of the dead ends. Even though it was a bit spontaneous, I'm so glad I went. Elena was really sweet, welcoming, and pleasant to work with. The whole experience felt very collaborative. She immediately understood what I wanted--at one point, I just made a curtain bangs-like motion with my hands and she got it right away. She also took the time to study the reference picture I brought and asked how closely I wanted to follow it. She checked in about the length, whether I wanted it shorter, and suggested soft layers so the cut would not look flat. Suju is an absolute angel! She was able to fit my son in for a same-day haircut and did an amazing job. He has long, curly hair, and she perfectly fixed an uneven cut from a previous salon. She washed, styled, and transformed his hair -- he loved the result and talked about it all day afterward. Two weeks later, I came back for my own appointment after not touching my hair for 2.5 years. I got a cut, wash, full balayage highlights, and gray coverage, and Suju was absolutely fabulous. Sadly, I won't be returning to this salon. Being charged $175 for a toner is absurd, and I was also charged $95 for a haircut that was uneven. On top of that, there was an $8 credit card fee that was never disclosed beforehand. I have never encountered such a high credit card fee, especially without prior notice. A few days after my appointment, I realized my haircut was choppy and poorly blended (see photos below). I was extremely disappointed and initially disputed the charge with my credit card company. I later canceled the dispute and returned to the salon to give them the opportunity to fix the issue. Honestly I wish I can give more than five stars. I walked in here today hopeless with my hair super frizzy and long and just couldn't even imagine that it could look healthy again. The best customer service I've ever received when I walked in the owner of the salon his name is Tooraj, He actually stopped working on the client to greet me and to fill my hair and give me some suggestions on what I could do and then he turned me over to the most amazing girl her name is Candii. I feel so lucky to have come in here today because not only did Candy do a deep condition on my hair in structed me on how to take care of it moving forward but she did some techniques that I've never even seen done and I mean at one point I was almost upside down in her chair as she did this special treatment on my hair with a brush and I can't really explain it all All I can tell you is I've never felt prettier I've never felt my hair healthier and I could not wait to get to my car to do this review. This was my first time at Salon Avalon and I booked Jee for a hair cut/style. I'm 3 months postpartum and dealing with shedding. I just showed Jee a picture of the short bob I wanted. She cut off around 6-8 inches of length and did an amazing job. She gave me some tips for styling and hair/scalp health. I will keep coming back here and specifically for Jee. She's personable and easy to chat with while she does her magic. The salon is nicely arranged. The owner came by to offer coffee and tea. He also gave me a free, travel sized hair masque when I checked out. The price was very affordable, much more than I'm used to from past stylists or salons. I had really long hair down to my hips, I went in for a trim and some short layers since my hair was really think, I made it clear I wanted to keep as much length as possible but just get rid of some dead ends and I wanted the bottom thinned out. I also had bangs that were slightly uneven so I asked her to fix that. The lady who cut my hair asked if I wanted I blow out, I told her no, I wanted to walk out with wet hair to see how it would dry naturally since that's what I do regularly. She was apprehensive but I was firm that drying naturally was what I wanted and that I didn't want to the appointment to take longer due to drying. She cut a good 8 inches off, the left and right sides were different lengths, the layers were super choppy, random, and uneven. The ends were not thinned out how I wanted and she didn't touch my bangs. At the end she said "I know you didn't want a blow out but I'm going to do it anyway" literally. She curled the ends and when I left I noticed the ends were uneven. I don't know if she curled them thinking I wouldn't notice but it was hard to miss. I was really sad to lose that much of my length since it took me so long to grow out and I wasn't expecting to get it cut, only a trim which by the way was $90 (partly because the cut was an hour and drying was another whole hour so I had to pay for 2 hours even though I didn't want the blow out) but I went back in because it was too bad to wear in public and this was less than a week before Christmas. I went back in, I told her my hair was really choppy, she said "well you asked for layers" I told her "but this isn't layers this is random pieces of different length, there are longer pieces on top of shorter pieces. She got really defensive and said I kept "moving my head." No I didn't and even if that had been true blaming the customer is just a really bad way to run a business when I'm just asking it to get fixed. I told her I wanted my bangs fixed as well and because they were uneven, she said "you came in like that" I told her "I know but I wanted you to fix them" during this argument the manager came in and had me sit down, he told me they could fix it and had another girl start working on my layers, he said that he would take care of the bangs. The Second Lady working on my hair in my opinion was really rude, she pointed out some grey hairs and I said "I know I have more of them in other places" she said "how old are you?" I told her 25 and she made a face that seemed extremely judgmental. I also notice while she was cutting my hair, she held the scissors and comb in the same hand and while combing my hair I saw her accidentally cut pieces an inch away from my scalp and I felt the scissors tug as I saw her wave LONG pieces of hair away multiple times. She also kept commenting on how thick and tangly my hair was which felt insulting. As I was in there the second time, TWO other customers came in separately saying they were coming back because they had issues with how their hair had been done, the manager didn't respond with "ok let's fix it" even when I noticed the customer wasn't trying to argue they were willing to pay more they just wanted more done, but the manager was very defensive about explaining "this is how it's done" blah blah blah when in my opinion it would have been better to say "what you asked for is ____ this is what we did but if you want more than that would be ____ it will cost more to get you want you want but we can definitely do that if that's what you want". By the time I was done I had been in there for over 2 hours just with the second time I went. I didn't have any layers when I left they basically just cut my length to the shortest piece the first girl left me with which made my ends sprawl out since I had really thick hair and my hair was about boob length now, my bangs had more heft but I didn't like the way they framed my face, to be honest I just wanted to get out of there, I had clearly made a huge mistake going back. When you go to a hair stylist, make sure you go to a place where you know they will LISTEN to what you want, not do some random stuff or get defensive when you asked for something different. I didn't take a picture of my hair after the second appointment, the length wasn't badly cut it just wasn't what I asked for, not thinned or layered at all, and like 13 inches shorter than what I wanted, I've had it cut since then by a hair stylist who LISTENS to what you ask for. read more

I booked over the phone to get my biannual (jk but not jk... I should really cut my hair more often) appointment. Since my last hairdresser declined in quality, I'd been on the search for a new one. I came across Salon Avalon on Yelp. My hairdresser was Suju. TBH I was relieved to get an Asian hairdresser who would know how to work with Asian hair :-) I showed her a reference picture of high layers and long bangs. My teenage daughter really wanted to dye her hair in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired style. No matter how much I tried to talk her out of it--telling her it wasn't necessary and wouldn't suit her--she wouldn't budge. In the end, I gave in, because it's "just hair," right? When we came to the salon, I was honestly so impressed (and touched) by how professional and caring everyone was. Instead of rushing to do what she asked, they gently but firmly explained why it wasn't a good idea and suggested a much smarter solution: correcting her hair in a way that would grow out naturally, without that harsh, ugly contrast line between new growth and her natural color. I'm endlessly grateful to the stylist, Jee, for taking on such a difficult case (you can tell from the "BEFORE" photo). My daughter's hair had 5-6 different tones and a very harsh transition. But Jee did incredibly precise, flawless work--truly masterful. She stayed after closing, worked on my daughter's hair for 8 hours, and was so kind she even offered her cookies. When I finally saw my daughter's hair, I couldn't believe my eyes. Jee has golden hands and so much patience. She also gave us lots of helpful advice for aftercare and maintenance. I decided it was time to get rid of some length that was bugging me and couldn't get down to Santa Cruz to see my regular stylist. After reading these great reviews for Salon Avalon, I called in the morning and they could fit me in for a haircut in the afternoon. Overall a very good experience with the stylist; from wait time to hair wash, listening to my wants and concerns and then styling. When I was checking out, the owner gave me some advice about shampoo for my type of hair and also sent me home with some travel size bottles of product. Minus one star for the price and for the front left side being a full inch longer than the right side (for a non-asymmetrical cut). Maybe I've been spoiled, but this ($110) is the highest price I've paid for a haircut from a non-celebrity hairstylist. read more

i made an appointment through the phone only a day prior to when i needed it and salon avalon happily took me in. i arrived about 20 minutes early and it was basically empty inside. my stylist, jee, didn't hesitate to come out and greet me when i got there. we quickly got started and began discussing what i was looking for (reference pic attached below). jee was very thorough when describing how my haircut would lie both naturally vs. styled. she also considered the coarseness of my hair and was honest with how i needed to spend a little time styling my hair in the mornings if i wanted to achieve my desired look. she explained what i can do at home using heat and any products i have on me. additionally, she communicated all of the steps she'd be taking and how much hair she'd be cutting off. her attention to detail is so important. it's clear that jee cares about her work and is extremely professional, yet so sweet! jee is a gem. i would absolutely return in a few months and request her to do my hair again. thank you jee! read more

I went to this salon based on the glowing reviews, but my experience was disappointing so I want to offer a counter perspective to those considering going here. I paid over $100 for a simple trim and maintenance of layers, but the result was choppy and uneven. It looked okay when I left because my hair was styled, but after washing it I realized how poorly it had been cut. I eventually had to go to another salon to fix it. What's more concerning is that the team does not seem able to cater to all hair types. I don't have typical Caucasian hair, my hair is straight and thick, but in an area as diverse as ours, a professional salon should be equipped to work with different textures and needs. Instead, my hair was left looking bulky and unmanageable. Other reviews point to the same issue: the salon's inability to accept constructive feedback. Rather than learning from mistakes, the team often responds defensively, and I noticed especially in the Google Reviews they often attacked bad reviewers instead of taking constructive feedback. The bad reviews were mainly about service or the haircuts, so if you're just getting your hair dyed and bleached go for it. This was the worst salon experience I've had, and I would caution others to think twice before booking here. I want to love this place, but it seems like I've been over-trusting of them more than once now and have been disappointed. I have attached the reference photos I showed the woman who cut my hair and a photo of my hair. As you can see it's not nearly the same haircut. I wish people would say they're not able to do a certain haircut instead of taking it on. She tried to talk me out of doing short bangs because she said she finds it annoying to have it that length, she tried to talk me out of have a bunch of layers by saying "I don't recommend that if you don't know how to style it" and I told her although I have curly hair, I don't style too often because I avoid heat but all I care about is it looking similar to the photo when I do style it. The discussion about whether I should do the haircut was way too long in my opinion, it wasn't up for debate. I understand giving your professional opinion but if a client is coming to you with inspiration photos and has said more than once that they're okay with the repercussions of said haircut, then you do the damn haircut. I now have to go to another salon to get them to fix it. I don't want my money back, I don't want to return to fix it-- that's not why I'm writing this review. I'm getting married in a week and spontaneously decided I wanted to go blonde. I searched for salons randomly and made an appointment and within 24 hours, I was in the salon chair about to undergo a major transformation with no room for error. It turns out finding this salon and coming in to see Suju was one of the best decisions I've made in wedding prep! I definitely realize that given the volume/length and dark color of my hair I should've given them a heads up and made time for consultation- but they were able to just go with it on the fly and produce an amazing result. Suju was on her feet with me for almost 7 hours, and shoutout to Brenda for her hours of assistance as well. They really took their time hand-painting all my layers, adding in a root melt, and toning it to platinum perfection. When the salon owner heard it was my wedding he came over to talk to me and gave special guidance and attention all day to ensure I looked my best. Not only are they good at hair, they all had great personalities and I enjoyed hearing about their lives and diverse backgrounds throughout the day. They never made me feel like too much of a "project", even though the job kept them working long. Given the technique that went into my hair, mixing balayage and ombre and lifting from dark brown to platinum, I feel like the price was extremely reasonable at $450. I will put up pictures once I get some wedding shots. I feel like I went from overstressed bride to carefree blonde bride in a day with her and I'm ready to get married.
