I had my car there a week and a half and still didn't get a quote. Jerry, the owner, was very friendly at first and then his whole attitude changed. He wouldn't call me with updates and when I called him, he couldn't keep his dislike or distain from me. I don't know if he didn't like me or because I was female. I finally just told them to stop and I got my car back. My car still needs work. I will have to find somewhere else to take it. City is and has always been the place for reliable service and fair prices. My family has been going there for more than 15 years. They are always willing to help no matter what the issue. Engine fire, blown radiator, oil changes, breaks, etc. He will even drive you home and or to work. Also when the car was not available he even offered me his own to get work! Who does that type of service nowadays. City always goes above and beyond. Jerry, Amelia, and the rest of crew is like my extended family. I recommend them to anyone. I'm not sure what planet these other reviewers are from, but I suggest you not be duped and make the mistake of going to City Automotive. I was referred to City Automotive by my (former) smog guy, because my '93 Olds Cutlass was not passing smog. Jerry, the boss, talks really well, he said he would "thoroughly" check out my vehicle to find the reason it was failing smog test. I was fairly confident in him, he sounded good. After almost a week, I hadn't heard from them, so I called and the secretary said she would find out (I never heard from Jerry from again). She didn't call back ,so the next day I called again, this time I was a little more assertive, saying I needed to know what is the story with my car. She said it needed an oxygen sensor, for $230, and I said fine, do it. I got a call from secretary the next day, she said the car passed smog and I could pick it up. Great! However, even though the car was smogged, it was still stalling, worse than ever. It stalled three times on the first trip on the freeway. Not good. I took it to a mechanic I know (which I should have done in the first place) and he pointed out that the AIR FILTER HOUSING was totally wrong. It was all loose, the end of it where it connects to engine was Mickey Moused with some kind of half-ass locking ring (see photos) and was not connecting right to the engine. Now, Jerry from City Automotive wasn't the one who put that piece of crap housing on, BUT HE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST TOLD ME ABOUT IT. That is the sin of omission. My other mechanic said that the air cleaner housing MUST BE CONNECTED FIRMLY or THE CAR WILL DEFINITELY STALL OUT. Jerry released the car to me as if it was fine. or worse yet, he didn't notice it at all, even though the oxygen sensor he replace was inches away and in direct line with the air cleaner! I took it back to Jerry and asked him about it. He tried to downplay it, saying the air filter cleaner housing doesn't need to seat firmly, and no way does it cause stalling. He said to bring it back in and he'll try to correct it. I said "no thanks". My other mechanic is now on the case, searching for a proper housing, which are hard to find (probably why Jerry ignored the problem). Jerry somehow got it to pass smog (by the same smog guy who referred him to me...hmm...maybe some collusion going on?). But it stalls terribly! I also found a wrench in the engine area that was left by Jerry or his careless employee. Not a good thing, another sign of their half-ass work. I definitely would NOT recommend City Automotive. I spent $230 and the car came out worse than ever. Stay away! read more
