City Barbeque (not sure which location in Dayton area) catered my daughter's wedding reception on July 4. The food was great, and the staff serving it at our venue were right on top of things. Everything looked and tasted great. Guests commented very positively to me on both the food and the serving staff. The leftovers were all put neatly into containers in the frig at the venue, and the servers made a "to go" package for the bride and groom, as they knew they wouldn't get much chance to eat at the reception. The only concern was the "phone and email tag" that my daughter had to deal with during the ordering and confirmation time. But we did get exactly what we asked for. We went for the "plainer" rather than fancy serving set up, and it still looked great. read more

We had such high hopes for City Barbeque. You could smell the smoke walking in and the menu was a hit list of the best BBQ items. They were busy so it took a bit of time for our food to come out, but we were happy to wait. Unfortunately, this BBQ is not worth waiting for. Everything was super dry. Brisket, turkey, pulled pork, burnt ends, just dry and soulless. The sauces were just sugar with no flavor. I enjoy eating here! It's a little pricey, but it's always a good experience for our family. The inside of the restaurant is always kept well stocked and clean. I typically get the pulled pork sandwich with Texas toast instead of the bun. My favorite sides are the potato salad (best I've EVER had on this planet) and green beans. I enjoy the corn pudding as well, but it's typically too large of a size for me to eat in one sitting. Our kids enjoy the macaroni and cheese! The cornbread is decent as well. Seriously, back to the potato salad- I've never had a better potato salad. It's the perfect texture and seasoning. First time to city BBQ. I knew i was taking a risk with the turkey and brisket. I turkey was excellent. It was moist and not at all overcooked. The meat was also very lean, nice job. The brisket was a little uneven. Some pieces were very good and moist and others were a little dry. The green beans were also very good, they had a fresh and not frozen quality. The service was great and fast. You order from a counter and the attendant was great. She patiently guided a first timer through the options and was super helpful. I love good BBQ. Overall, City does a nice job. We used to go all of the time, but recently the quality has dropped. Specifically, they changed the Mac and Cheese recipe, not for the better. The BBQ is good, but takeout is inconsistent. There is usually something missing. The peach cobbler is gross, but the gigantic chocolate cake is amazing. Swung by for lunch. Ordered just the brisket and two sides: corn pudding and collard greens. The corn pudding was AMAZING. I think I could eat myself sick in corn pudding. The collard greens were a bit salty for my taste. You walk-in and order your food and then they call your name when it's ready. The bbq sauce and silverware are on the side. So are the drinks. We had take out today for 16 of us at work. As BBQ goes, it's all very good! I tried the beef, chicken and pulled pork. The smoky flavor with bits of crispy ends was just what the Dr ordered! Nice job! The BBQ sauce was great, just the right mix of flavors! The beans. They were way over cooked with undercooked bacon. That I could do without and that's why it's a 4 not a 5. I'm in the area for training at the air force base and stopped in here last tuesday. I mean the food isn't bad but it's nothing to write home about either. BBQ should be good on it's own and sauce should accentuate it and make it better but even with the sauce it was meh. The 3 rib bones were small, not really juicy, the brisket was very tender but didn't taste like anything but the potato salad was probably the star of the show but I didn't like the huge chunks of onions. Also everything was ala cart which made it quite expensive for what you get. The young lady who took my order was super friendly but the gentleman who put my food together was quite rude, I don't know if he was the manager or what but I didn't like how he handled me. So frustrating - Multiple Times getting wrong order and they will not resolve the issue. Go in person, do NOT order online for pick-up. Consistently order comes missing items, not just side items, but sandwiches, and whole meals. If you call the helpline they will promise resolution and do nothing. Recently drove 30 minute return to the restaurant for promised resolution (after multiple issues with previous orders where promised refunds/rewards points never materialized) was told by the "manger" "we don't do that. When directly asked same person stated there was no manger present at the store. Great first experience so recommended my company cater for 15 of us working around the clock. We were shocked when the order showed, very small amount of brisket for 15 people, they said 2.5 lbs is what we get with horrible shredded chicken, but forgot our buns to make sandwiches, the utensils, plates etc. We called to complain but they argued that's what we got for 256.00 and put us on hold three times while our food got cold. First off, I am from visiting from Texas. Just plan and simple, Texans know how to BBQ. The meat flavor is ok, but there is too much fat in the meat. I couldn't eat half of the meat. Green beans were good. Hush puppies need some help, to dry and the chocolate cake is dry. Needs to be tossed out, I had 3 bites and that's all I could stand it. While the service is not always as friendly as the locations in Columbus, the food is as good and in some cases better. At our most recent visit, the flood helpings were very generous and tasted great. The sides here are not over seasoned as we have found at other locations. My favorite dish here is the two meat sampler with two sides. Although I usually get the Greens and the Green Beans, I also sometimes get the Hush Puppies that are really tasty. I like to see the smoke ring in my BBQ and its there now! This is definitely a place that the hubby and I go to on a regular basis for a BBQ fix. The brisket is well done and not dry (at least the last couple of times we have been there). However, the winner - the ribs, hands down are worth a trip.
