How have I not reviewed City Barbeque yet? I have visited this location and the location in Centerville multiple times. I actually prefer this location in Beavercreek because there is more parking and it does not get super crowded like the one in Centerville. There also seems to be more seating available here as well. You can either choose to sit in the dining area or the patio outside. I love sitting outside on the patio when the weather permits. I am always satisfied when I dine here because the service is wonderful and the staff is friendly. It is very low key and casual when eating here. When your food is ready, they will call you to pick up your delicious plate of bbq. When I visit this establishment, I tend to always order their beef brisket. I am a creature of habit. It is melt in your mouth and delicious! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu but the brisket is my go to choice. You can also order sides to go along with your meal for an additional cost. Sides include macaroni and cheese, green beans, potato salad, corn bread, corn pudding, french fries, gumbo, and hush puppies. I always order the potato salad because it is probably the best I have ever had! I also order the green beans or the fries. Similar to the meat selection, you can't go wrong with choosing a side as well. Decisions, decisions... They have a condiment bar in which you can get your own jalapenos, red onions, pickles, and bbq sauce. There are 3 bbq sauces that you can choose from. I like to get the original sauce to put on top of the brisket. It is yummy! If you are feeling extra hungry after eating your meal, you can always order their banana pudding cake or chocolate cake! I love city BBQ. Any time I'm traveling through Columbus or southern Ohio I usually have to stop in for some of the best BBQ around! Tried this location for the first time this weekend and it did not disappoint! Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating including an open air patio and a covered enclosed patio. I almost always order LoLo's pulled pork sandwich, it is the best! My family members all enjoy the More Cowbell sandwich as favorites. Verdict: Don't let the menu distract you. For a very reasonable price, I was able to get pulled pork, turkey, a salad, corn pudding, and baked beans (with brisket)! Yes, there is no kidding brisket in that side of beans. I found good size chunks in there so it's a good side. That's not taking anything away from the surprisingly good side salad or the corn pudding that offsets the healthy benefits of that salad. As for the meats, the secret was to just buy those by the quarter pound. The price is reasonable and you can add your sides with the 3 Side Plate menu item. Neither of the meats were the best I've had in their category but I was happy and I had more than enough to try each of the BBQ sauces. I've tried other BBQ places in the area. The aromas are mouthwatering! I had the lunch special. I had pulled pork, pulled chicken with cornbread and mac-n-cheese. I was satisfied! The pulled pork and pulled chicken were tasty. The staff moves the customers fast. You place your order, pay for it. Move to the next station, collect your order and cup for your drink. (Sweet tea is really good!) We went here with some friends while on a visit, and the only thing I regret is that I didn't have left overs to take home. This place is really good and pretty quick for BBQ. We had Brisket, Pulled Pork, and the BBQ Chicken along with a host of sides. My favorite is the brisket with the collard greens!!! The only negative on the food was the fried pickles....and i love fried pickles! They cut their pickles on the thin side for their chips, and I just prefer it a bit thicker. I like to get the Judge's Sampler if you want a little bit of everything - Ribs, Chicken, pulled pork, brisket, two cornbreads, and two sides. Maybe I'm boring, but my favorite side is fries. My favorite meat by far is the brisket. Just be sure to ask for the fatty cut because that's the good stuff - super tender. The brisket and ribs do have quite a thick bark to the point of being overwhelming. The chicken is also good - super tender and juicy. I find that the ribs and pork really do need sauce. But that's fine because they do have quite a few to choose from. I've never tried a dessert here. I know they offer banana pudding. The service was very friendly and helpful! read more

Okay I just ordered from this place a few days ago and already ordered again tonight... oh MY god. I've been craving genuine bbq food for a while now and this place gives me the nostalgia of a family barbecue (without the anxiety of my family gatherings). Both trips I have gotten a platter so I've tried almost (if not all) of their meat now. The turkey, the sausage, the brisket, the ribs, the chicken... all phenomenal. It all tastes so fresh and is so tender. They have a few different sauces; I've tried the brush fire and sweet city. Both are incredible. The sweet city is a nice sweet bbq sauce and the brush fire has an extra tang to it. I also ordered the 3-cheese baked mac and cheese, and the green beans. Both were just to die for. I haven't had one bad item, or bite for that matter, yet. Just make sure if you're planning to go, you have some money. The sandwich prices didn't look too bad from the menu, but if you're wanting a sampler or platter, they do run slightly on the pricy side. But it's definitely worth it read more

This restaurant is located about 17 minutes from downtown Dayton Ohio. It is in a restaurant strip mall on the left-hand side. The inside had a great country feel but the seating was very limited. Moreover, there was almost no seating inside for a group larger than four. The restaurant was clean but there were many tables that needed attending. During lunch, this restaurant was absolutely packed and so tables were at a premium. There weren't any waitstaff per se. Your interaction with staff are the people behind the counters and the few that are walking around cleaning tables. The ones behind the counter were very helpful and made good suggestions. For the food, as anyone who has read our reviews in the past they know, we're from Texas and hold barbecue to a high standard. Unfortunately, City Barbecue fell pretty short. Most everyone ordered sausage and brisket with various sides. We also had one person that got brisket and shredded chicken (the chicken was dry and didn't have a lot of flavor). The sausage tasted something similar to the vacuum sealed smoke sausage package you could buy at the grocery store with very little smoke. As you can see with the pictures (please reference) the brisket was falling apart and almost shredded (also lacked smoke flavor). I personally ordered a variety plate so that I could taste all the different sides they have. There was a green chile sauce, the corn bread and the collar greens that were all very good. The green beans had no salt, the mac & cheese was dry, and the other sides were not very good. On a very positive note they did have Shiner Bock which I thought was only sold in Texas (it was ice cold and delicious!). If you look at the picture with the Shiner Bock (my food), you will notice that I also put the receipt in a way you can see it. I paid $20 for lunch, which I thought was extremely high. City BBQ is a place I've visited many times before, but I hate doing a generic review. So here goes. We went this time on a Sunday afternoon during the Bengals and Steelers game. Despite the game the late afternoon was not busy at all. We were first in line to order and got our pick of seats in the dining room with only a few exceptions. I was able to order entirely dairy free with the allergy menu online. I ordered the bbq chicken (leg and thigh), baked beans, and texas toast with no butter. Hubby ordered the "More Cowbell" sandwich, which has won a few awards in the area as best sandwich. The cook was so cool about the dairy free order that they even asked me if I wanted the texas toast for the sandwich with no butter too. Seating was great, staff asked if everything was ok, and the environment was great for a late lunch. Experience however has taught me a few things. First, this place is not great when they are very busy. The order first then find your own seat can leave you hanging with a plate full of food and nowhere to eat. (Trust me, its happened to me.) So, if the dining room looks crowded and there's a line, do yourself a favor and assign someone in your party to go hold a seat or come back when it isn't so busy. Secondly, when its busy the parking lot is a nightmare (especially if Graeters next door is busy too!). But the gravel lane across the road is a lot better. Otherwise, enjoy a wide variety of good bbq, awesome sides, a wide array of non-dairy choices, and an enjoyable relaxed atmosphere. read more

In a area filled with chain food restaurants and fast food places, City Barbeque is a change to the mediocre chain food restaurants. (although they have five restaurants: Cincinnati and Dayton). As others have stated, BBQ is prettty good, I had the three sampler sandwich of pork, sausage, and chicken, along with two ribs (you can purchase individually). On Tuesdays, it is $1 ribs - I will have to return on a Tuesday for the RIBS plus four biers for $10 (they actually had Lone Star bier - kind of funny to have Texan bier (although not brewed in Texas) in Ohio). Side dishes are great! The atmosphere is best exemplified by the pictures taken and posted by Katie F...the pictures were from the male latrine (Army talk for men's room as opposed to "head" which is Navy/USMC version). I wonder what the women's room sign state? Probably something just as poignant. Under the mirror in the male latrine was a something like, "and you wonder why you go home alone..." Our eyes were definitely larger than our stomachs because in our version of MAN verses FOOD, FOOD WON... and we were hungry...so I do not know about the We went on a Thursday evening, it was not too crowded. My first visit to a City Barbeque caused me to unfairly view them as a mediocre BBQ sandwich joint. We weren't expecting cafeteria style ordering and such long lines, so we hurriedly ordered the first thing we seen which were pulled BBQ pork sandwiches. Well, we finally did some research of their menu online before visiting again and this time...ta-da!!!! Magically delicious. This time my husband ordered the City Sampler meal, which came with beef brisket, pulled pork, sausage, turkey, Texas toast and 2 sides (he chose baked beans and hushpuppies). I ordered the Pick 2 Meats meal and chose pulled pork and turkey with 2 sides (I chose the corn pudding and hushpuppies). I was truly shocked -- both meals were absolutely amazing! Super large portions for decent prices. I got a large mound of pulled pork with lots of the "burnt" ends thrown in (my favorite!). The turkey slices were all white meat that were moist and perfectly smoked around the edges. My husband loved his brisket and sausage as well. With the hushpuppies you get 8 little puppies which weren't super onion-filled like most, and the corn pudding was to die for! So creamy and sweet, I was in Heaven. Add on top of that the countless BBQ sauces waiting for you at each table OR the warm sauce options at the condiment bar and we're talking barbeque perfection here!!! The Texas toast was really the only disappointment (besides the cafeteria-style ordering, which I always despise). It was large and grilled yet still soft and chewy, but it didn't have much flavor at all. It was just like eating a big flavorless pillow or something, so totally not necessary in my opinion. Could absolutely be perfected, though, with more garlic seasoning and of course more butter, but I guess you're not coming here for a side of free bread so who really cares?! The staff at this Beavercreek location were all super friendly and everyone had a smile on their faces despite the popularity at lunch time, which I always appreciate. I ordered from Grubhub, and it took an excessively long time to get my food. When it arrived I noticed I wasn't given a fork or anything (I'm in a hotel so I had to go find one), and I was given the wrong kind of bbq sauce. All of this wouldn't usually bother me that much but I just really didn't think the food was all that good. I'm from South Carolina so I wanted to try their "LoCo mustard" sauce (which implies SC style sauce) and was given something else. I ordered the pulled chicken, green beans, and peach cobbler. The pulled chicken was unlike anything I've had, and not in a very good way. Off somehow. The green beans weren't gross but nothing to write home about, and the peach cobbler was ok. I hate writing "negative" reviews, especially knowing I'm picky about my bbq. But it was just kinda disappointing for me. I'll save ordering bbq for when Im back in Charleston. read more

I don't like the ribs but I wish I did. I've had them twice. The first time I was a little disappointed but it was a while ago so when that old ribs-monkey got on my back I just had to go back and try them again. I got the full slab which is insanely huge; they don't mess around there. But the ribs were tough with a lot of bark and skin and weren't very tasty. I tried dousing them with barbeque sauce but they still didn't hit the mark for me. Now the good stuff: I do like the people who work there; they are very friendly. I like the atmosphere. I really like their green beans and gumbo. I have tried the pulled pork barbeque and remember it being average, but better than other places around here. So all told, three stars for effort.
