The brisket and pulled pork were so good; the meat is smoked and you can add whatever sauce you'd like, but the meat doesn't need anything added. It was mouthwatering!!! The slaw (vinegar and veggies without nasty salad dressing), potato salad (the perfect consistency of creamy and chunky), macaroni n cheese (the best Mac n cheese I've had in a long time), & sweet corn bread! My picky eater kids loved it all, that's how you know it was good! There was a great selection of beer and bottled soda! I was happy to find this place while passing through. I ordered pulled pork, corn pudding and hush puppies. The pork was moist, tasted great and went well with the vinegar sauce I topped it with. The corn pudding was delicious and left me wanting for more. The hush puppies were tasty though I do prefer a sweeter puppy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Ugh. Wish I could give this place a better rating, because I like the food and the prices are decent. But they NEVER have our order ready when we place the order online . Like, NEVER. Inevitably, the sequence goes like this: 1) we place the order on their website 2) we show up to pick up the food 3) wait at the counter for 5 minutes while they free up a resource to wait on us 4) "you have a pick up order? Is your name Danny? ... Andrea? ... Jason? ... Callie? ... What is your name?" 5) panic sets in as they realize they don't have the order ready 6) any one of a number of excuses is given as to why the order isn't ready (yesterday, it was that the fax machine was out of ink) 7) wait 10 minutes to finally get the food 8) take it home and enjoy it, while lamenting that they are so inept at the online ordering process What am I supposed to say when this happens every time? The service here is very friendly and helpful when you are trying to decide what to order. After you order your food you can walk around the ordering bar and find your drinks and all you will need to dress up your meal. We ordered the pulled pork and the chicken. I went with my mom and we had a lovely time together. You can sit wherever you want after you get your food, and there are many choices offered with the size of the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and we were able to eat and talk with one another. The BBQ is pretty good, the sides were mostly just "okay," and the service was what you would expect at a franchise restuarant. All in all- I'm sure this is a restaurant we will visit again at some point. With all of the options in the area I don't see myself banging down the door to get in and get my BBQ, but it's not a bad choice. read more

I'm so glad they are still open and serving food for take out. The food is always fantastic. They're always friendly and helpful. I'm a big fan of the brisket. Whether in a sandwich or just a big tray full, it's spectacular. I hear the different sauces are good but I personally wouldn't want to cover up the smoked goodness they've created. All the side dishes taste great and complement any protein you decide on. If you haven't tried City Barbecue, you're missing out. If haven't been in a while. The BBQ is really very good and authentic, best of the chains by a long shot. Add to that live music on certain weekend nights, and you have a place to eat that is a notch above most other restaurants in the Eastgate area. The only thing I don't care for is the stand in line to order your food, get your own setups and drinks model. It's not like their prices are any lower than other BBQ joint that is full service (other than the Montgomery Inn chain, but that's not real BBQ anyway.) 6 friends and I drove to Cincinnati from DC to run the Flying Pigs Marathon or Half Marathon. On our way back to DC post race (5/6/12) we pulled off the highway for lunch. A friend and I decided to go to City Barbeque. The women behind the counter were pleasant and very helpful. I ordered the pulled pork and a side of hush puppies. The BBQ here is not pre-sauced so you get to select your own. I got the original and the sweet, both of which were wonderful and the combination of the two was even better. The pork was tender and tasty even without the sauce. The hush puppies were a little hard but still nice. I would most definitely stop in here again the next time I am in Cincinnati. read more

Eating these ribs felt like I was eating a tire. Horrible taste, and rough as granite. No tenderness at all. The packaging was also very inconvenient. All items were just rapped in paper opposed to being in a container, or even a to go box. On top of that they charged $10.00 more than any other Rib joints in the area. Hmm.... I was expecting more. I got a 1/2lb brisket sandwich, fries, mac and cheese, and 2 rib bones. I got this to go for lunch with a 5ish minute drive back to my office. Let me start positively. The staff was great. Very friendly, helpful, and courteous. This is really the only thing that would have earned a star. The building/atmosphere is pretty good, and well designed inside. It certainly smells great! Brisket sandwich: This had almost no flavor(a consistent theme with the rest of the food). I had to douse it in sauce to make it taste like anything. The texture was pretty good, though. Moist, slightly crispy on the ends. Ribs: The ribs were ok. Mushy and fatty, but they did fall off the bone. I'm glad it came with sauce, I don't think they would have held up at all dry. Sides: This was absolutely the worst part of the meal. The fries had a great texture/crispness, but just had an off/sour flavor to them. Maybe it was old oil? These could be great fries, but fell very flat. The mac and cheese was bland, and flavorless. I had to add salt/pepper to get it to even remotely taste of 'cheese'. Very, very mushy pasta as well. To top it off, there was a hair in it. Yuck. I usually like to give restaurants a second try after I have a bad experience. I'm not sure I can bring myself to come back, though. Sorry City BBQ, but I would recommend you stay away. read more

I am not a BBQ sauce fan. Saying this I love pulled pork, chicken, brisket and everything associated with bbq joints haha. Their brisket is always good and I enjoy their chicken and pork but definitely prefer the brisket but sometimes it is a good amount of fat. Sides- the fresh cut french fries are like Penn Station but IMO better and the cheese sauce they have is awesome! Green beans - these are my favorite. Have to get them everytime! Boyfriend always gets the greens and loves them. Service is always great at any City BBQ we go to so this one is not any different. This location does not have mashed potatoes which is the only bummer. read more

I dined at the Florence location Saturday night and the food was just fantastic. I got lucky and got there between rushes, so we immediately placed our order and were eating within a few minutes. Score. About 10 minutes after we started eating, I noticed that the line grew to about 20 people, but they've got the ordering/delivering down to such a science that the line goes down pretty quick. We ordered the City Sampler that included turkey, sausage, pulled pork and brisket. While we could go on and on comparing different restaurant's styles of BBQing, City BBQ just flat out does it right. All were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection - there was not a dog in the bunch. I especially liked the side dishes. We had the mac and cheese (my daughter's fav) and gumbo. You rarlely see gumbo served at a BBQ restaurant but they really do a great job with it. I've eaten there before and I can also vouch for the beans, corn bread and corn pudding and they were delicious also. After ordering our lunch specials the manager also offered us samples of additional sides to try. All of the food was very good, including the pulled pork and the brisket sandwiches, but what impressed me the most was the excellent collards (possibly best ever), slaw, and baked beans with brisket.
