Service was excellent at our table of 5. Friendly and professional with solid recommendations. The ambiance is really a mixed bag. I was expecting white tablecloths but, no. It is a very family friendly restaurant though there is a bar area that has a different vibe. There are multiple seating areas including an upstairs. The food was on point. Lamb chops for Little Mister and he opted for a side of fries instead of a healthier option. I tried a couple of his lamb chops and they were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Delicious. My Caesar with grilled salmon was very tasty. Nothing over-the-top amazing though. The salmon was cooked with a bit of crisp outside and not overdone inside. This is a celebrated Cincinnati restaurant for over 70 years. Located in the heart of old Montgomery. Parking can be an issue, however they do offer valet parking. We had reservations for a busy Saturday evening and were seated after a short wait. The decor has a good deal of local sports memorabilia- both high schools and professional sports. The interior looks a little tired but it was very well maintained and clean. I ordered the ribs and fries. The full rack was very generous and will make a couple more meals! I think the sauce is the star here. It is truly delicious. The ribs were okay. We also tried the Mac and cheese which was creamy and delicious. Service was fairly quick. read more

Particularly enjoyed the super kind and patient valet service who helped my older relatives get in and out of the vehicle with care. Where to start..... First off why is there only valet parking?? I can park my own car.. and it's not that fancy of a place. We went to the bar first to wait for a table ... there was about a 15 min wait and the bartender barely acknowledged us before they buzzed us I ordered the Salomon maybe a bad choice for a "bbq" place but it was the blandest thing ive ever eaten. I only ate a bit bc i just couldn't do it...I told our waitress she knew i wasn't happy yet she didn't offer me anything else, didn't take or off the check, didn't have a manager come out, the bare minimum would have been to offer free dessert. All things that I do at the restaurant I work at off someone isn't happy. Bc no customer is going to come back if they leave upset about paying for food that they didn't eat bc it was terrible. The ambiance was amazing live music with a projector playing sports, there's jerseys hanging in frames all around so cool to look at. The parking was difficult I would say though. My family and I came here last weekend. I brought my boyfriend to my hometown and since it was his first time in Cincinnati, I wanted to give him a taste of all the Cincinnati staples. Especially Montgomery Inn, since he is a big barbeque and ribs fan. Montgomery Inn holds a special place in my heart - it was where we would go as kids after football and basketball games. However, our last visit was lackluster. We had a reservation for 7:00 pm, we got there 10 minutes early, and were not seated until 7:30 pm. The food was just okay. I think the quality may have gone down over the years. The positives: it is a really cool environment. While we did have to wait a while for our table, we were able to explore and look at all the sports memorabilia. It was also nice that they had college basketball on. Overall 4.5 rated experience for excellent foods, dining ambience, friendly service and local memorabilia. If ordering Ribs, expect to pay ~$28-35pp for an entree, but their menu is extensive so plenty to choose from meats to seafood etc. Recommend reservations if coming on weekend nights or with a group. Started with a cold beverage, they have a local Ted's "red" craft brew that's on tap, or full bar options. Munch on their house-made Saratoga chips and/or Onion straws (get a combo) with famous BBQ sauce dip - fantastic and crispy! Other starters available as well. For dinner, I ordered the "full" slab of 12-13 Ribs (1/2 slab 6-7 ribs), slow cooked to perfection! My eyes were bigger than my stomach because I could only finish 1/2 my order ... amazing, flavorful, sweet and savory BBQ melts in your mouth. And yes, leftovers cold or re-warmed are great! i haven't been there in a while, but I remember it as being better. My wife and I both got ribs, but they were overcooked, even burnt in some areas. My wife took a couple of bites and wouldn't eat any more. I don't know if this is now typical, but a place should be able to do better on it's signature dish. We went to Montgomery Inn last night for the first time in several years, and it brought back memories. Unfortunately, they were memories of how good MI used to be and how far they've fallen since then. I ordered the pork chops because of how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were in the past, but last night they were overcooked, dry, and tough. The Cantonese shrimp appetizer was also overcooked and not even close to how good they were in the past. Even the sweet and hot dipping sauce was almost all sweet with very little hot mustard. My wife had the ribs and chicken and the Ribs King salad. As with the pork chops, the ribs were overcooked and dry (a far cry from the way they used to be) but at least the sauce came to the rescue to add some flavor and moisture. Her salad was missing its croutons and barely had a touch of color with only a small sliver of carrot. At least the blue cheese dressing was still as good as we remembered. I speculate that our ribs and pork chops sat under the heat lamps way too long after they were prepared given that we didn't get our food for well over 30 minutes after we ordered it. As for cleanliness, the edge of our table (the vertical edge facing me) was sticky - most likely from someone spilling BBQ sauce days, weeks, or months ago. It probably would have taken a knife to scrape it off because my napkin had no effect on it. Perhaps we could blame MI's poor performance on it being Greater Cincinnati Restaurant week, but whenever we have gone to other restaurants during a restaurant week event, those restaurants shined - but not MI last night. read more

Montgomery Inn - what I like to call wealthy old people food at its finest. It's a classic Cincinnati staple, but it's also way overrated. My dad used to work here in the kitchen, so I've been coming since I was little. We had gift cards so my husband and I came and splurged. I don't love BBQ, so I typically go for something non barbecue when I go to a bbq place. My husband got the full slab of ribs and loved them - they aren't bad, just not my thing - and the mac and cheese, which reminds me of what grandma would bring to a potluck. Flavor was ok, but noodles are overly soft and the sauce has that weird kind of sentimental flavor. I had the filet mignon which was excellent with onion straws. I normally wouldn't pay that much for a steak, but it was definitely tasty. For an appetizer we had some breaded shrimp which were mediocre, and the dipping sauce was literally just jelly with a splash of spicy mustard in it. I also had a paloma which wasn't bad although a bit heavy on the alcohol. If you are looking for classic food this is a good place to come, although it won't be a regular for me. read more

Husband's green beans looked fresh and he said they were great. Daughter got the burger which she said was great and other daughter got a salad which was basic but she was good with it. Sliced bread was served in a basket with the meal - if I were giving advice, given the "nice restaurant" feel of the place I'd suggest they should upgrade the bread offering above slightly stale sliced white bread, but maybe this is a "thing" for them? Waiter was attentive but also gave the vibe that we were very unimportant- customer service must not be his thing. We got our food and our glasses were filled, so...good enough I guess. Ambiance is 80s hotel lounge. There is valet parking at the back of the building but also plenty of free parking nearby within walking distance. All in all, the ribs won the day for us. read more

I'll start with this though, the staff and environment is great, and clearly there is a long history of service and experience here. What got me was the quality of food. The food really lacked flavor and for the price and reputation I really expected more. The ribs were average to below average at best, and I'm not sure I'll be back. The table next to us came in after us, ate, and left before we got our food. We all got ribs and they were all dry. My baked potato was cold. I asked for butter and napkins never got either. It's amazing to me how populated Montgomery Inn became on a Saturday evening. Based on my dine-in experience, you are better off purchasing the BBQ sauce at Meijer and cooking for yourself! As a long time Cincinnatian, Montgomery Inn fails to delight over and over again. While the food is consistent, the ambiance is lacking and the service is inconsistent. They really try and be upscale (their prices certainly suggest it) but you leave always saying, "that was ok". When we went there last, on a Tuesday night nonetheless, the food took over an hour to get to our table with no update from our waiter until we asked for one. He shrugged us off and said "good things come to those who wait". Really?! With no manager is sight, we ate our food once it finally arrived, paid our bill and left....likely for the last time. I had guests visiting. So, I decided to treat them to MI iconic ribs. My friends are from Asia where ribs are cooked completely different. They truly loved the ribs and sauce. The different sides were also excellent. We were too full for dessert. While the price is expensive, they said it was the best ribs they ever had. read more

We ate at this location on 4/15 to celebrate my aunt's 70th birthday. Appreciated the private room for the 14 of us gathered. No water was placed on the table, we had to ask for water throughout the meal. My mother was unhappy with her dinner choice (pork chop - not seasoned and baked potato was cold to taste) and asked for it to be removed from the bill and taken off the table. As our waitress complied she failed to offer to have another plate made or offer my mother a choice from anything else on the menu. How disappointing! I had to send back as it was tough {never had tough fat until last night). The returned item as marginally better. I thought returning it again would be beating a dead horse. the meat was toughest I'd ever been served and seemed microwaved vs. slow roasted and no taste. Server was pleasant and efficient. Visited the original while in town for Christmas, what an experience! We accidentally made reservations for the night sports commentating for a college game was going on. It would have been great if that were mentioned, because we would have avoided that time. Our Server Patrick was awesome. His section was busy but friendly and on top of everything! We started with the onions, the ones on top were great.... However they were served in a bowl, they weren't drained and there was nothing to soak up any grease. (Even if there are or probably wouldn't have helped) There was a HUGE puddle of grease in the bottom, like someone ladled them straight from the fryer rather than a slotted straining utensil. At least half weren't edible. The way they were severs there was no way for whoever delivered them to see this. They are served with BBQ sauce... not sure if that's normal in the mw, but thought it was kind of weird (ketchup, ranch, or remoulade are the way to go). Dinner was pretty good, everyone enjoyed their ribs, they were tinder. The bbq sauce was a bit more vinegary that I prefer for a sweeter sauce but that's just personal preference. The Mac n cheese was pretty basic, nothing to write home about (reminiscent of old school KFC or frozen dinner stuff). I ordered the 1/2 chicken with a sweet potato, only thing I would change is the chicken needs salt (badly). It's well coated with a rub but either the rub needs salt or their birds need brining! There are a few dessert options including various Graeter's flavors but unless you order the 3 choice meal they are way over priced ($8 for two very tiny scoops). If you're looking for an salad and something sweet the choose 3 is definitely the way to go. Overall, if you're in Cincinnati and really want ribs they are good. Came here on a Saturday night for dinner. Our server was new, so service was very slow. The time between sitting down and getting our food was probably a little over an hour. Despite that, he tried his best and did a good job considering the circumstances. I got the pulled pork bbq sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The sandwich was just okay.
