We are from Illinois and visit relatives in Londonderry several times a year. A couple of years ago, we came to Circleville to go to the Pumpkin Show and passed by City Barbecue. Our intentions were to stop here for dinner after we left the show, but everyone was too tired to stop. I was out voted and we ended up going home. After several more trips to Ohio, I made it my mission to get here. I'm glad we finally made it. The first thing I noticed when we pulled into the parking lot were the three big smokers with all of the split wood out front. When we walked inside, the restaurant is really nice, wood decor and butcher block tables, and very clean. Walking up to the register to place our order, the smokers we seen outside were on the left and they all had names. Ted, Winky, and Tiger, lol. We got to the register to place our order I told the very nice lady we have never been there so she helped us through the menu. We decided on the Judges Sampler. This dish included brisket, half slab of St Louis style ribs, pulled pork, we took the choice of chicken leg and thigh, Texas toast, and our two sides were coleslaw and corn muffins. The food was wonderful. All of the meats had a very nice smoke ring and great smoked flavor. The brisket was very moist and tender and had a perfect bark. The same with the pulled pork, you can see the wonderful smoke ring on the pulled pieces and it had incredible bark pieces mixed in. I love the little bits of the crunchy bark with the moist pork. The ribs were fantastic! I personally prefer babybacks but that wasn't an option. These were the St Louis style ribs and again, they were fantastic! Very meaty, great tasting, and easy to eat. We had a choice of chicken breast and wing, or chicken leg and thigh. We chose the leg and thigh. I loved the crispy skin and the moist smoky flavor of the meat. Chicken tends to be a little dry, but not this chicken. It was smoked perfectly! The Texas toast was good, I loved the corn muffins and the coleslaw. The coleslaw was creamy and was a vinegar based slaw. Very tasty. The absolute best thing I loved about our Barbecue was that none of the meat came out sauced. The sign of great Barbecue is served unsauced. It shows they are not trying to cover up poorly cooked food. However, they do have several different sauces available if you like. I didn't need it for our meal. I tried a taste of the original sauce, the sweet city, and the brush fire sauce. They were all very good, but like I said, I prefer my Barbecue without sauce. It's my personal choice that I like. I'm glad we were able to find the time to make it to City Barbecue in Circleville. It was a great experience, with great staff, and great food. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Ohio. read more

Thanks for not throwing any bbq sauce in the bag for our half rack of ribs had to take it home and use reg sauce . And the burnt toast just really adds to the flavor . Someone knew when they wrapped the bread up in the paper it was burnt . Thanks. read more

Three of us had lunch this morning. One had 1/2lb of pulled pork with a side of green beans. One had a pulled pork sandwich and one had chicken tenders with mac and cheese. We each shared fried pickles. The pulled pork was good juicy, but loaded with salt on the initial bite. The chicken tenders were crispy, but one that my daughter had was not cooked all the way. She tried cutting it and the color just wasn't there. The fried pickles seemed to lack breading and were flimsy. It's almost as if the fried pickles and chicken tenders were rushed as the rest of what we had cooks longer and ready-to-serve. It was as if the chicken tenders and pickles were hurried along. The bbq sauce is very tasty! I'd definitely go back and give it another shot, just not go with the tenders or pickles. read more

First time trying City Barbeque while traveling to Ohio for school, and my husband and I absolutely loved the food! The sauces were delicious, and everything we ordered was great. I almost did not go to this barbecue restaurant because of all the negative reviews. But I'm glad I stopped by and tried it for myself. It was on a Tuesday and it was Rib day, so that's what I had a large rack of ribs. The ribs were tender fall off the bone, moist, and had a good smoke flavor all in all a very good rib. Also had the baked beans which have chopped brisket in them, and they were really outstanding And for dessert I had some peach cobbler I believe which was excellent. I absolutely love their roasted turkey and the macaroni and cheese is the BEST from any restaurant I have tried. We order their large catering meals often for the place I work and it's a crowd pleaser for everyone. Food is always fast and hot. First time I've had a subpar meal from any City Barbecue location. The employees were nice enough, but it seemed to take a long time to get my food for a City Barbecue. Collard greens were on point and delicious. Banana pudding was on point and delicious. Brisket tasted good, but was very dry and worse, came out room temperature. Pulled pork had no flavor of smoke, not a ton of flavor of pork, and was lukewarm at best. On the plus side, City Barbecue's sauces are good enough that they make even bad bbq pretty good. On the downside, even though the pandemic is over they still haven't brought back half of the different flavors of bbq sauce they used to have. City Barbecue is not cheap. If the food had been on point I would've thought it was worth it. But the food was not on point. read more

City barbecue was amazing! Got it in Circleville this evening and brought it home after the ball game. Spent about $100 to try almost everything they had to offer and I'd give it a good 9.2! Baked beans need a little work but the rest was amazing. read more

Horrible service, outrageous prices for the offerings and the worst DoorDash experience in Circleville. I understand that the restaurant is not responsible for the conduct of the delivery service but that is not an excuse to treat me like it is MY PROBLEM either. Unless they get better people, I don't see them lasting in Circleville for very long. read more

Enjoyed our visit today. This is our 3rd time here. I think they've only been open a week if that tells you anything! This time we are in the outside eating area. There was a beautiful sunset! We had the Judge's sampler. It had a chicken breast wing, Baked Beans, Potato salad, 2 Cornbreads 2 Texas toast, Sweet City Barbeque sauce, and 2 soft drinks. I can't report if the food was worthy or not. I couldn't get past the lousey service. Not one but two cashiers said they would be right with me. Didn't happen! They were more interested in doing side work than customers. I was the only one in line with only two people inside the restaurant and no business for take out. You would think they would be rolling out the red carpet. What a huge missed opportunity to give a customer a good experience. Now it's doubtful I will ever go back. Who needs to be ignored, made to wait and be treated poorly. Just go ahead lock the doors go home and call in the bulldozer.
