BBQ good - sides not good at all Green beans were sour to the point that 3 kids nor 4 adults would eat them. Oddest taste i have ever had with green beans. Tasted downright awful. It's almost like they were going bad. Smashed potatoes (lumpy, skin on smashed taters) - I love potatoes done this way and do it at home this way frequently. However, these had an odd sour aftertaste and very dry. no one would eat them. You think of mashed potatoes you think savory, butter, salt etc. these were dry and had a sour aftertaste but not like sour cream, an off putting bitter aftertaste. To my knowledge they weren't supposed to be some form of potato salad. I suggested to toss them in a pan and try to fix them up and the consensus was, skip it, if you have to cover it up maybe we shouldn't be eating it. The BBQ itself was good, had ribs - pulled pork - brisket. Again with the inconsistent thing though. Spent close to $90 for food to bring home to family and visiting friends and even though the BBQ was good, the meal was disappointing. I had to do some quick cooking to make some veggies for sides because what we got was not good eats. I have eaten food here before and can tell you the green beans and potatoes did not taste anything like previous visits. what I have come to realize is, it's hit and miss. Going to the same restaurant for lunch (Hyde Park) and dinner (Florence) was a first for this guy. On the way home we noticed a new City BBQ restaurant that had a huge line hanging out the door. I asked a guest that was walking out of the building what was going on, we ended up talking about barbeque for 15 min in the parking lot. He had said they finally opened one of these cool little places in his home town, he had been driving to West Chester for years to get his BBQ fix. Well this time it was my wife & kids along with my grumpy father-in law.-The line was long but moved quickly, the building was nice,real nice. We ended up getting a couple of sampler's-I got the half chicken, and we all got desert on the house from a very nice cashier. The ribs were OH MY great- I have had ribs in Texas and they were not as good as these. The chicken spurted juice when my father in law cut into the breast, he siad it was the best pc of chicken he ever had- he's 73 years old. We proceeded to fight over the 4 pc of corn bread that was just out of the oven. Our sampler platter had pulled pork & brisket, both items were not served with sauce on them, again reminded me of Texas, both pork and the brisket were melt in your mouth, try the hot sauce, its perfect. I can not tell you the last time I had a better meal- the place stayed busy the whole time were were there, most of the times when a place just opens it has those new employee blues, but somehow City seamed to have great employees at ever turn, come to think of it the Hyde Park restaurant employees were also very nice. there must be something in the sauce. I'm picking up my mom an dad tonight to show the place off to them, he grew up in Forth Worth, we will fall in love with City. Thanks City, I have a new favorite restaurant. read more

We were there during a very busy time. We didn't know what to expect so they could have had a employee at the door with menus. You go down a long line and at the middle of the line they had menus. The line went fast and I was at the ordering section before I had decided what to order. I took the three small sandwiches where I got three different meats. All three were very good. and also tried different sauces that had a wide range of flavor. We have been there again and you don't feel like cattle being round up to to place your order. I think they were overwhelmed working with all new employees. Give them a second choice and if your food is bad, take it back and for a new one. read more

Passing through and wandered in on a whim, I was drawn in by its clean and welcoming marketing. The inside was warm and friendly, lovey quirky decor (I especially liked the tool box as a lid and straw station and the six pack boxes as condiment organizers) the food was great, the fried pickle chips were amazing, possibly my new favorite. They don't really have too many options for those who really like spicy sauces, but if you're fond of molasses the sweet city sauce is perfect. Would go again in a heart beat. read more

I finally made it back to City BBQ. All I can say is that I was WAY impressed! Now that they've had time to settle in, they've got a great place with really good food. I'm still not sold on the sauces and they can't touch Famous Dave's sauces, but the meats make up for it. The pulled pork was tender and delicious. The corn pudding is unbelievably good. Imagine meat smoked so perfectly that no sauce is needed, and you have the delicious basis of this casual and fun eatery. I ordered a full rack of ribs with no additional sauce ... the moist meat was falling off the bones (for 3 meals I might add!). Others' portions of pulled pork and brisket were equally as amazing. The sweet potatoes (possibly seasonal) were sinfully delicious, the collards and pork were cooked to Southern perfection and frankly we didn't have room to even think about dessert. Sooooo we tried this place out as we are visiting Cincinnati for the weekend and this place got rave reviews on Yelp. Mind you I trust Yelp with my stomach and my life and they never let me down. The service is fantastic, everyone was pretty friendly and being the token black guy, the kindness made me feel at ease lol. Before I talk about the food let me first state that I am from the south, so bbq is a big deal to us. The pics from the yelps pages got me so hype, my stomach was like "yes Mario, let's do this shit!!" So I get my food and it is very blahhhh. We got the chicken and ribs and my wife got the turkey. The ribs didn't have much flavor but the sauce saved them from being trash can city. The baked beans were decent. The Mac and cheese was clearly made by a 7th grade home economics student. Very bland to be generous. I guess with being located on the cusp of Kentucky and Ohio, I expected more of a down south flavorful bbq, and I didn't get that. Price was kinda steep but the norm for bbq places so I wasn't trippin off that. All in all I probably would never come back here.... Well maybe if the walking dead happened in real life and I needed a meal to sustain while I kill off zombies. Nice presentation but bad execution food wise. read more

The line to get food was at least a half an hour wait. The time to find a table afterwards, ten minutes. Time it took me to get fed up with the cramped, loud, stinky restaurant and TERRIBLE, dry food, 5 mins. For 3 fridays in a row I have gone to eat at 8:00pm to 8:30 pm and this store has been out of ribs. What the heck? I like the food and everything about the place but cant they get it together. I see the ribs wrapped up in plastic when they get them out of the hot box, why cant they make more, I'm sure they would keep overnight.I wont be returning. Let me start with that I'm mainly a pulled pork BBQ person and it's usually with a sweet KC style BBQ sauce. I didn't really get into brisket until I married a man from Texas. Now, for reasons I don't remember, the first two times I went to this City Barbeque location, I ordered the brisket and it was pretty darn good! Now, this past Saturday, we stopped by again and I decided to try one of their premium salads with pulled pork (much like the Sassy Salad I frequently get at Famous Dave's). The actual salad was really nice with spring greens, sliced cucumbers, grape tomatoes, dried cranberries and just a little grated cheese. The pulled pork came separately so it could be added to the salad. It was dry and overcooked. Even adding both BBQ and honey-mustard salad dressing couldn't overcome how dry and overcooked it was. And there was no real smoky taste to it. I was really disappointed and, if I hadn't two much experiences with the brisket there, I would have rated them much lower. read more

You have to try this place; you will love it! The service is top notch and they really pay attention to you and what you want. Been here a few times over the past year. The food is 100% amazing, especially the fall-apart -tender ribs and the beef brisket sandwich, which have been my 2 all-time faves. A co-worker and I tried their huge salad with turkey (you choose your own meat) one day during the summer and it was incredible! They wrap the meat separate and it stays warm until you add it to your salad. The portions are generous and excellent in quality every single time I have visited City BBQ in Florence, KY. My co-worker said the collard greens were the best she has ever had. I tried the french fries with cheese and bacon today and it is definitely over-the-top! The bacon is like none you have tried before since its real pork pieces from pork and not a packaged commercial product. The corn pudding is da-bomb! So I'm a Southern girl with a craving for BBQ. So read the reviews and decided to try City BBQ. The parking lot was full so I thought, must be something to this!! I was amazed at the selection so I went for the ribs. A half rack was just enough for my meal with leftover snack. Tasty, tasty, tasty. I also got the potato salad. Great!! So many restaurants offer potato salad but the mayo is overwhelming and the potatoes can be too hard. But this was really good. I'll definitely go back to try it again. Maybe the brisket. read more

They stopped providing warm sauce which is a bummer but now show up more than two hours before they close and they are almost out of everything including ribs, pulled pork and brisket. Came all the way from California and I must say this is the best bbq I have ever had in my entire life and trust me I eat a lot and I have been everywhere !!!! Everything is smoked to absolute perfection! I got a two item meat plate with ribs and a brisket and the ribs fell off the bone and the brisket was extremely tender! I wasn't going to use bbq sauce at first because the flavor of the meat alone was perfect but then I decided to try the sweet and the original because it everything else is this good the sauce has to be just as good and they are both ridiculously delicious ! For the sides I went with Mac and cheese, gumbo, beans , coleslaw and the cornbread casserole! Mac & cheese was great homemade didn't have any of that fake cheese like you get sometimes and are disappointed with. Gumbo was amazing had sausage in it and a bit of other meat and was spiced to perfection even made me sad when I finished it because I wished there was more !The Cole slaw wasn't like your typical Cole slaw that is drenched in mayonnaise instead it had true flavor and wasn't all soggy they didn't have to coat it in a bunch of nonsense to make it taste good ! The beans had their own special sauce to them that was like no other and the cornbread casserole you can tell was made with love like your grandmothers cooking would be! The service also was absolute outstanding! Beth took great care of us! Pretty good place to eat. I've heard some people say this place is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Food is great, fast service, and they have fired pickles!!! My suggestion, if you're dining with two, split the 3 little sandwich sample. It's probably the best way to go your first time. The sampler is just that a sampler. You get your choice of 3 different types of sandwiches plus two additional sides for 15$ (I think). Anyway you go here, you can't go wrong. One of my fave lunch spots. The brisket and pulled pork are wonderful. On Tuesdays, you can add a rib bone to your meal for $1.25. The corn pudding is heavenly -- don't miss it. The team here is alway friendly and helpful with requests. We asked for the brisket to be cut off of the point, no problem. When we were trying to figure out side dishes,they figured it out so that we got the best deal for the money. They are always knowledgeable and courteous. We once had a large group on another occasion and they set aside seating for us and brought everything that we needed to the table. The food was spot on too. My wife and I judge bbq on the Memphis in May (MBN) circuit , so we know good bbq. In a retail restaurant, these people make a great product and we will certainly be back again and again! read more

This used to be my favorite place to go for a quick lunch during work, but not anymore. The food was always delicious and the service *was* polite and fast. After my experience about a month ago, however, I doubt I will ever set foot in this City BBQ location again. My friend purchased a car from Kerry Toyota and was excited to see that City BBQ was included in the rewards program. The next day, I picked up lunch for her, another coworker, and myself. When I tried to use her rewards card to purchase *her* lunch, the cashier was incredibly rude. She called me a liar and a thief, saying that I was trying to steal money from the restaurant and what I was doing was "so so wrong." I was so shocked at how badly I was being talked to that I didn't do anything, but I should have asked for a manager. How is picking up someone's lunch for them stealing or lying? How is using a coupon that the company put out immoral? My friend went in a week later to address how I was treated. She not only got the same cashier, but the woman remembered being rude to me and was *proud* of how downright mean she had been. We would eat here about once a week but now none of my coworkers have any interest in being back. We work with the public every day and none of us have ever treated our customers so rudely or called them names like that. I've never been treated so badly as a customer in my life.
