I hadn't been to a City Barbecue in quite some time. It was just as I remembered with a few menu changes. They have really good iced tea which I like to do 1/4 sweet and 3/4 unsweet. The hush puppies and corn pudding are probably my favorite sides. And you can't go wrong with the brisket. Whether you have a big appetite or just want a little bit of something, they've got you covered. Don't forget to try the yummy barbecue sauces. And if you aren't too full, they have a wonderful peach cobbler most of the year, but right now they have a pretty amazing apple cobbler. Definitely a laid-back family friendly atmosphere. Came in for lunch on a weekday, they were moderately busy around noon'ish, but we didn't wait long to place our orders. They have a very appetizing menu, with salads, sandwiches, and then meat & side platters. I opted for their 2 meat platter to try their brisket and sausage. The sausage was rather basic, not very smokey. Tasted like it was seasoned with black pepper and not a lot more. The casing was also on the rubbery side, not very crispy. The brisket's flavor was decent, though not very smokey also. I did see that a new brisket was brought up while they were preparing our orders and I suspect I got the last of the previous one which might have been a little dried out by the time it was sliced for me. I also tried a single rib - very disappointing. Almost had the texture of being baked or made in some form other than smoking and then maybe finished with smoke. Lots of fat and not much meat on it. For sides, I tried their corn bread, cole slaw, and baked beans. The baked beans had some meat in them, but were very sweet and not very spiced in flavor. I added jalapeños to them which spiked them up nicely. Their cole slaw was excellent. Exactly how I prefer it, which is on the basic side with fresh ingredients. Not overly saucy and definitely perfectly seasoned. Their corn bread was OK, but the Texas toast they give with the meal was so much better. Their sauces were ok. I tried all of them and found that their NC vinegar sauce packed the most flavor, while I couldn't tell which was their "brush fire" spicy sauce, as the spice level seemed the same as the others. Overall, I probably should have ordered one of their appetizing-looking sandwiches, as I'm sure all the ingredients come together better like that rather than trying them individually. But I wasn't tasting much smoke in the items I tried. read more

We had the most amazing service tonight. My family and I make the trip from Pittsburgh to Nashville often and we always stop in Florence, Kentucky-because it is about Half way and because of City bbq. Their food is amazing but tonight they really outdid themselves in service. The manager, Cassidy, went above and beyond to allow us to enjoy the perfect bbq dinner. We visited for some Kentucky BBQ. Here's what we found. Good selection and reasonable prices for traditional bbq meats. The pulled pork was better than the brisket IMO. For me the brisket was too well cooked and left dry. The sides were all delicious to include the collards, hushpuppies and potato salad. The sweet tea was spot on for southern flair as were the sauces. Being from NC originally I am particularly fond of a vinegar based sauce and City BBQ delivered. They also had a spicy sweet sauce that was more spicy than usual and for me that was great. So I would indeed recommend city bbq and glad we stopped in while visiting The Creation Museum and Ark coming out from California, where the taxes are high, the weather isn't as good as they say, the food may be better for you, but you only live once,... and yes it's still the land of fruits and nuts and not the type you eat! Ha ... who am I kidding I gotta get back to the south where the food is delicious, the people are friendly and the women are far more attractive. read more

Recently I got take-out from City Barbecue. We have always gotten excellent meals there until this past Friday. I ordered 1/2 lb of pulled pork and a 1/2 lb of pulled chicken, fries and hush puppies. The fries were HORRIBLE, wet with grease, cold and limp, truly gross. I threw them in the garbage. The meat was cold. And they failed to put any sauce in the bag even tho they checked the receipt that it was included. I wasted $40+ Truly disgusted I will say that the hush puppies were good. read more

Was looking for a bbq restaurant to try and decided to prefer take out from City Barbeque because of the reviews. I liked the options in their menu so that made it easier to order. I was between the family pack or the Pick Two, and I ended up ordering pick 2 to try out different meats. I got the pulled chickens and the beef brisket. That came with Texas bread and I got fries and coleslaw. We loved the brisket and the chicken, both were tasty and extremely delicious. The bread was also great. I was not a fan of the fries or the coleslaw, I regret not ordering the side of greens. Deft worth the price for the amount and super cheap deliver too. I will for sure eat here again. read more

If you are looking for great bbq look no further! This place is amazing! The brisket is consistently perfect and full of flavor and so is the pulled pork. If you don't want pork or brisket then they have other options like chicken and this doesn't disappoint either! I had the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and it was moist and had rich flavor. The dining room is a bit stark but the wood furnishings and walls make it warm enough to be comfortable and the nice smoky smell makes it even better! If I have any criticisms it's that I'm not crazy about the actual bbq sauces and the fried pickles were a bit soggy and disappointing. Overall this is a great place with delicious food. read more

This review is for the Nashville Hot Chicken. It's a 3.5 so I rounded up. So I expected some kind of sauce because the breast looks sorta red to me in the pic. It's not dipped but comes with a very flavorful, delicately spicy mayo. I like it. The coleslaw was creamy and perfect. The pickles were crisp! My sandwich was not hot although I arrived at my pickup time, but it was still good. The only qualm is that it's $9 a la cart, which seems on the high end, especially compared to the price of that other delicious chicken sandwich. read more

What a grumpy bunch, especially the young girl running the front end. The tall bearded guy without glasses at the register and the tall bearded young man with glasses cleaning tables..PUT THOSE 2 IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS AND BOOT THE CRANKY CATHYS!! Too bad cranky cathy with the blue nail paint thought asking for 2 takeaway trays for leftovers was a federal crime. Please turn down the heat!! If you are near the Florence, Kentucky area and you are craving some BBQ, you need to stop at City BBQ right off Highway 75. I wanted to try different meats so I went with turkey, ribs and brisket. All three had great flavor, ribs fell off the bone, turkey was moist and the brisket was tender and probably the best I've had. Being from St. Louis and having my share of brisket, that's saying a lot. The sides were good as well. Potato salad, Mac and cheese, baked beans and fries were enjoyed by our family. Yum! As soon as we walked into the building, we could smell the deliciousness of the meat. Ordered the City Sampler to share, and it was just the right amount of food to share. I enjoyed the brisket and turkey while my spouse like the other meat on the sampler. All meats here are smoked and very tender. Recommend the baked beans and creamy slaw as sides. This was the first I ate the creamy slaw because I normally order vinegar slaw at other City BBQ locations, and I was pleasantly surprised. The person at the counter where we ordered was helpful and friendly. Appreciated the staff member who walked around the dining area cleaning tables and checking with customers to see if they needed any extra sauces or condiments. He would go and get items customers needed. This location is doing well with Covid safety protocols. I've been to different City BBQ locations and really enjoyed eating here.
