Basic Chinese owned buffet with a large sushi selection. Definitely a choice buffet for what we have in Davis and Weber counties.

Virtually all the food tastes so amazing! The staff is quite chill. Ambience is basic, a lot of TVs, but the Asian decorations are pleasant. Only loses a star because the bathrooms are a bit dirtier than I'd like and the Sesame Chicken was a bit hard to chew. The other food was great though! Might have been an off day. read more

Really not a fan of City Buffet. They have a lot of items to select from. Unfortunately, most items were not very warm. The beef and broccoli was overcooked and had an odd taste. Same with the egg rolls and dumplings. Rice was crunchy and lo mein was watery w/vegetables mushy. Not sure if it was just an off night or if this was the norm. For $45 (including tip), we left disappointed with the visit. The staff were nice enough, however, a buffet is really about the food; as you serve yourself. We won't be back. read more

The Mongolian grill was the best part of the meal. All of the buffet items were very bland.

Tasteless food. Everything tastes the same. When we got ready to leave, the server stood at the table waiting for a tip (he never provided any service) and would not leave until we left something. All of the food seemed very fresh, the only complaint I have is that the sushi even though it was fresh and couldn't tell anything wrong with it was not fully cold. It tasted good and it smelt good it was just a little and I mean a very small amount warmer than sushi should be. Other than that I was seated and greeted very quickly and all the servers were very nice. The Mongolian grill part was very well done had a good selection of foods to try. My favorite part was actually the egg rolls, spring rolls, and gyoza though very surprised at how good they were. I would give a 5 star if the sushi were held a little colder. My fiancé and I had a date night here and we enjoyed our food. There were SO MANY OPTIONS. It was great! I only wished I had seen the Mongolian grill before I stuffed my face. Next time we go there. I'm going to the Mongolian grill first! I think it's awesome how you fill up your bowl and then they grill it up right there I front of you. Selection is pretty good, we don't frequent buffets often buuuuuuuut this place is worth it! From the kids favorites fried choices: nuggets, fries, crab rangoon to the fried sweet plantanos! The sushi selection was surprising and good (again buffet realms) fresh and clean. All the food was fresh considering we went in the evening on a Friday and the flavor wasnt lacking at all the samples we took and ate, down to the dessert. Charshu pork ribs were my favorite, it fell off the bone so tender. 10/10 for an asian buffet up north. I'd recommend. Plus the service was great! Attentive, nice, welcoming, friendly. read more

City Buffet is most everything you want in a good buffet and has offerings that should satisfy everyone in the family. Our last visit was on a Sunday during lunch and while busy, it wasn't packed and I could get a good feel for the place. The building is nice and they spent a grip on renovations. Beautiful decor and very well lit so you feel quite at home here. The layout of the inside is very nice. It is HUGE and I am sure can accommodate more guests than it would need to. You have several 'bar' choices to hit once you are sat at your table: 1 - Mongolian grill. Fill your bowl/plate with some semi-frozen fixin's and watch them get cooked up on the hot top in front of you. Bring a few singles as there is a little tip jar at the end. 2. Sushi - a fairly impressive selection of nigiri and rolls. Mostly Krab but there were some tempura rolls and other options like seaweed salad that were outstanding. The rice was very well done on everything I tried (usually buffet sushi has extremely sticky rice. 3. Salad / dessert bar - nice little line up on the cold bar with some healthy fruit options, some not healthy dessert options, and some items that were unexpected but nice: peel n eat shrimp and chilled muscles! 4. Four bars of hot food. Four. Quatro. 4!!! Most of the staples you expect are here. The General Tso's, the meat on a stick, the beef n broccoli, etc. There were some good surprises in the amount of seafood on the bar (some good, some not so good) and other surprises I liked. There was a a Thai chicken that may be my new favorite thing and their soups were all extremely well done. Look, in the end it is a buffet. You're not going to get the best meal of your life and it probably isn't somewhere you take a prom date but as far as buffet's go, it is top notch. read more

Really close to my house. I've been there 3 or 4 times. Decent price. The food isn't very fresh unless you do the Mongolian BBQ. The service is good. I can feed my family for less than McDonald's costs, which is crazy to me. McDonald's has gotten expensive though. Overall I am disappointed in the food quality more than anything. My granddaughter recently celebrated her 12th birthday - the day before I arrived in Salt Lake City to visit. To make up for missing her birthday party, I offered to take her to dinner ANYWHERE she wanted for our "birthday dinner date". Did she chose to be adventurous and try an Indian, Italian or French restaurant? Or even an expensive steak restaurant? No. She was adamant that City Buffet was where she wanted to go, saying she LOVED this place. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE CHEAP buffets!!! The Golden Corrals of the world are a godsend for people like me that have cast-iron stomachs and appetites to match. I frequent buffets every time I visit the mainland (because I live in Hawaii and "cheap" doesn't exist here, well at least not as far as buffets are concerned) and I have the experience to know that you can tell right away if the joint you're visiting will send you directly to the Mexican Riviera, if you know what I mean. City Buffet was clean, well decorated, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They offer a wide variety of items including: sushi, Chinese staples, American favorites, a Mongolian bbq and a dessert bar that will satisfy most any sweet tooth. Excellent experience!!! read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! Each item I tried ( Believe me! I tried MANY ITEMS to try and find something edible! ) had a distinctly WEIRD taste... Nothing like I've ever tasted before! I don't eat at a lot of buffets, so I can't compare this to other places. The food and service were good. The prices were incredible! $15 for an adult on a Friday night and only $3 for my 3 year old. Some of the food was hit and miss. It was weird how the general tso chicken was good but then the sesame chicken was just mehhh. Soup selection was great and I was surprised how tasty the egg drop soup was. Lots of fried options: fried chicken, fried scallops, fries, fried fish, etc. Sushi looked less than ideal. I didn't try it, but my husband confirmed it wasn't spectacular. We also didn't even notice the Mongolian Grill, so I'll need to check that back out next time. All in all, I'd come back and recommend it if you want a buffet selection. It's not the best Chinese or sushi you can get in the area, but for the price and selection it's a great option. read more

This place is so good! They have a great variety of Asian cuisine so there is something for everyone. The Mongolian grill had all the fixings I like, and great sauce selection. The sushi bar had all the most popular sushi flavors, and it was nice to have some sushi without having to eat an entire roll of each flavor, the way you would at a place that just does sushi. My personal favorites from the hot section were the sesame chicken, baked oysters (they had this yummy, gooey cream cheese sauce on top), and the cream cheese wontons. For being a buffet, all the counters were incredibly clean and organized. They had just a good solid variety to pick from. My only complaints (which are kind of dumb, but I had to get nit-picky to even find things to complain about) were the following: 1. Some of the items serving sizes were a tad big. There would be less waste if you could take half the size that was portioned (the baked shrimp, watermelon wedges, meat skewers) 2. The iced shrimp in the salad bar had skin and tails still on. It made it a hassle to eat them. 3. I personally did not like the flavor of the BBQ ribs. The sauce was too sweet... it tasted like cherry cough syrup. 4. The soft serve ice cream machine was out of order. I get it. It happens. Luckily they did still have single serve frozen ice cream cups which were yummy. 5. They charge $10 for children 4 and up. This is probably buffet industry standard. But it would be cool if they did something like "pay your age up to $15" or something. It would have also been cool if drinks were included. But I know that's not usually standard either. Overall, it's a wonderful joint. The dining area was incredibly clean, the seats were comfortable. And the decor was really beautiful. This was our first time here, and I know we'll be back. I wonder if they have a frequent diners loyalty club... haha. read more

What in God's name is this? It's supposed to be scallops but it's definitely not scallops! Looks like a rolled up tapeworm LOL. I took the breading off and its some rolled up garbage of some sort. Overall the food was bland with very little spices. I'm not impressed. To get somewhat of my money's worth I went to the Mongolian Barbecue and at least I felt I was eating decent food. We visited at lunch time and yes (!), there are many options here compared to the offerings normal for local Asian food buffets. Some of the stir-fried selections were as good or better -- and nice that everything isn't battered and fried, though there are a lot of battered and fried options all the same. Yet the fish was very, very poor quality (overcooked and fishy tasting); and spaghetti should never, ever be substituted for Chinese noodles (as if those who like noodles won't notice the switcharoo)! The sushi wasn't too bad (for a buffet) but most was maki (sliced rolls). If they make nigiri style sushi (non-expensive fish atop a rice cake) we saw hardly any-- perhaps that's more a dinner thing. The Mongolian BBQ selection also was pretty sad as far as saucing choices, so that unimpressed us even though it wasn't bad, per se. Our service was reasonably attentive and friendly-enough so all was good there. Yet the tackiest ever are the many signs posted around the restaurant stating that if a patron were to take one of the (overfrozen) small, cheap-o ice cream dessert cups home with them they should be prepared to be charged 95¢ each. Imagine them risking reputational damage because they put the squeeze on a child, senior citizen, or anyone else who misses the signs (even if not easy to miss seeing the signs). Yes, it isn't normal to take away at a buffet unless ordering take-out but are the signs really worth the petty aura communicated? read more

I've eaten here a handful of times now and the last time I dined here, I had 3 plates and everything was cold and bland. Everything that is bad and cliché about Asian buffets is going on here. $20 for quality that's well beneath Panda Express just is not worth it, unless you're Homer Simpson trying to gain wait to get on disability. Went here for lunch today and it was really good. Everything was hot and fresh, and had good flavor. The ribs are excellent, and the salmon nigiri was delicious. The portions of fish on top of the rice are huge, bigger than most buffets. They have good crab puffs, baked salmon, clams, gyoza, shrimp, etc. The employees were all friendly and provided prompt service. The only downside was that the soft serve machine was out of service and the ice cream cups aren't that good. Other than that, everything was great and I would highly recommend City Buffet. read more

This is a very good buffet. The only thing it lacks is some varying items. With 200 plus items to choose from you would think no problems here. But if you frequent this restaurant you may find yourself wishing for few missing favorites like honey walnut shrimp, egg foo young or shu mal. Overall I do enjoy eating at this restaurant. When I am in the mood for the missing listed perennial favorites I make the longer trip to Layton. Between the two I can get satisfied. read more

RECYCLED FOOD My family walked into this restaurant excited for some all you can eat Chinese food. We literally walked in the door just as they opened, my wife excited that the food would be fresh. We were quickly disappointed, it was obvious they had taken yesterdays leftovers out of the fridge and they hadn't heated up yet. The food was cold and soggy. I told my waiter, who was great by the way. The manager came to our table yelling at me that my complaint was "IMPOSSIBLE"!! She walked away and then came back to my table telling me "I was wrong", she then, hilariously, offered me some hot water telling me that my body temperature was low and that is why the food was cold and soggy. Someone needs to teach this woman some basic manners, let alone some customer service skills. My family left immediately and we will not return to this dump. The health department will be out to see them soon. read more

The servers and staff were nice, and the restaurant was kept very clean for a high volume place. This is why I gave it at least one star. The food itself was meh to bleh, with the only palatable item not containing a horrendous chemical after taste was the salad and the Chinese fried donuts. The sushi was skeptical because it looked like it would make me sick by consuming it. Some meats were drenched in pure sugar syrup sauce that had little to no actual taste. Fries soggy, meats overcooked, and so much more I could mention but feel I would only be mean at this point. They did get the white rice correct. The cooked noodles had a weird taste that seemed like bad pork or something off putting. For the cost and the quality, McDonald's would have been better. read more

Heard this place opened and we decided to give it a try, they was supposed have awesome COVID-19 precautions, but I guess they didn't understand the rules. Well tbh, i feel like the only thing right was that everyone had to wear gloves and mask. But as far as sitting everyone was bunched together like sardines. Thank God they sat us in the middle and there wasn't anyone near us, so that was a plus, but i don't know if that was because of who we was or not, but literally no one was sitting in the middle but us, and everyone one else was seated on the sides. Anyway, the food was okay, it could really be so much better, But you get what you paid for right? I was really was surprised how clean it was inside. The sushi was gross, i love sushi and I'd never go there for sushi. I really liked the staff, but as far as the food, i don't think I'd return for the food. My opinion. Wasn't aware that this place had opened but spoke to a friend who insisted we try it out. Upon arriving it was easy to note that it was going to be a very busy place as many parking spots were filled. Once we got inside, the visual entertainment began... lots of lights, colors, and artistic patterns to look at. It almost has the feeling of something in Wendover, with all the lights and whatnot, but better. Everyone seemed to be good about masks and the restaurant is laid out as to comply with the 6' spacing but with ALOT of people. They give out gloves that you must wear while serving yourself but be ready for a crowd and alot of close interaction with other people. This place offers a pretty good variety of options, most of which you'd expect at a place like this, including Mongolian style cooking. Disclosure: I'm not overly fond of these kinds of buffets but do try them out in my never ending search to find ones that I do deem good. Anyway, here we go about my opinion of the food. Some of the items were very good and properly prepared. Other items were pretty much what I've come to expect. So, the items that were outstanding to me, the large variety of food options, and the bright and exciting atmosphere were enough to win me over! I will certainly be back!
