I've been seeing Dr. Roybal for about 3 years. It started with a need to replace a veneer on a front tooth and getting the rest whitened to match. Dr. Roybal and his staff were wonderful and even though it took a little longer than I would have liked to get my permanent veneer, they refused to settle for one that was less than perfectly matched to my other front tooth. Since then I have used them for all my dental needs. Yes, they have a very nice office and many of the comments suggest that cushions into your bill, but they also have a wonderful staff of hygienists and office managers that are some of the sweetest and most attentive I've encountered in any office. Most people are afraid of the dentist and obviously there is nothing fun about dental work, but Dr. Roybal and staff are always paying attention to make sure you suffer as little as possible if at all. Today I had my first root canal...no fun. But Sammy was by my side the entire time and was an absolute delight and made what had full potential to be the worst 3 hours I've had in a long time, completely relaxing. Dr. Roybal will be my dentist as long as I'm in Santa Fe and I hope he can keep those lovely ladies around too because each and every one of them has a special and caring touch that takes those dental jitters away. read more

Once Dr. Roybal left and Dr. Gardner and others took over, the quality of dental care plummeted. They did an expensive bridge for me which had to be redone because of a poor design that led to complications. I was told my only option was for them to put in a new bridge. I transferred to a nearby dental studio with better reviews and could Not be happier. I would recommend not going with City Different. Very disappointed, not to mention paying a lot of money. read more

Unfortunately, my daughter was referred to this butcher shop for a root canal. Pretty sure the secretary is doing dental procedures. I didn't realize that they don't have a endodental surgeon on staff and they are a common dentist preforming root canals until after we were referred by Dentistry for Kids. It took several days to get an appointment and then they couldn't finish the job during the first appointment and wanted us to come back months later. I insisted they make an appointment much sooner much to their dismay. Hey also wanted to charge us $1,300 out of pocket without unstanding our estimate of benefits. I argued that they are wrong and I'd like a breakdown of our estimate of benefits, that they could not provide. Finally after they scheduled us a date to finish the root canal weeks after the initial procedure I asked about prescriptions since my daughter has been in immense pain and was concerned about continual infection. I asked about penicillin and the dentist reply "oh yeah I guess that would be a good idea". WTF kind of place is this???? My daughter has been screaming in pain for several nights still waiting for these idiots to finish the job. DO NOT USE THIS FLY BY NIGHT OPERATION!!!!!!!! read more

I highly recommend Dr Gardner and all the staff at City Different Dentistry. I had a tooth infection that Dr Gardner quickly diagnosed and he then performed a root canal. He did an excellent job and it was done pain free! He uses the latest technology and is very thorough and careful. All of his staff are equally skilled and patient. I'm not a fan of writing bad reviews because it is too easy to damage someone's business when angry or upset. That said, I have waited a long time to write this review. I had 2 crowns made at this office and they didn't fit properly. I returned at least four times for bite adjustments and the office was very good about accomodating me. I know it can take time to get it right. However, even with the bite adjustments I suffered with an aching jaw that didn't open and close properly for more than two years. My teeth also shifted sideways from the pressure of the ill-fitting crown(s). I have had other crowns and never had a problem with pain or my jaw. I moved back to CA and a dentist here told me I would have to have the crowns replaced because they weren't "seated" properly and would allow decay to enter. This seemed like overkill to me so I had him contact Dr Roybal to discuss it and was told that he never got a response. I moved on to a second opinion who agreed they weren't perfect but said we could simply keep an eye on them, and also advised using a hydrofloss system to help keep the area clean (which I now do). Today I discovered that the back crown has broken. I have had this crown for 3 1/2 years. 2 1/2 years were disfunctional and painful, 1 year felt fine but held a decay risk. Found this dentist online and was I immediately impressed by the office managers expertise at that initial phone call. She managed to rush me in quickly to get my painful tooth evaluated. Dr Roybal has a super low cost clinic near the Opera House and a regular office near the hospital. I observed the patients at the Discount Clinic being treated with the same VIP concern and caring as the folks at his higher end office. This is a huge service to the Santa Fe Community. read more

I'm so glad I found this place! I am relatively new to Santa Fe (from Albuquerque) and I thought I'd never find a dentist that would compare to my Albuquerque dentist. I tried a different Santa Fe dentist with good reviews about a year ago for a tooth that had chipped and he did a shabby repair job. My tooth has been chipped since I was a little girl, and the ceramic on it has to be replaced every 5-6 years. Well, after the Santa Fe dentist I saw a year ago made it both look awful, and not last even 1 year, I wanted to try someone else. I found Dentist Roybal based on great online reviews so called their office when my front tooth chipped a few days ago. They were SO kind over the phone, understood my urgency to fix that unsightly front tooth, and got me right in. The office is the most beautiful office and all of the staff were so kind and personable. They have state of the art instruments, but better yet, are incredibly knowledgeable and present costs and expectations up front. The best part yet is that Dentist Roybal did an amazing job repairing my tooth. It was every bit as aesthetically beautiful as my Albuquerque dentist had always done, and it just feels good! I can say that this dentist has a special touch with cosmetic dentistry. Beyond that, he is the most kind dentist I've ever met, just like his staff. It's been several years since Dr. Roybal put in two crowns that did not fit, and the subsequent filing down of my teeth he did when he tried to fix it and ruined a once perfectly healthy bite. Now, i have small chips in my front teeth-the ones he filed from behind as my new bite was moving forward. I think he filed down pretty much every tooth in my mouth. The pain and tightness has never fully gone away, but i got great relief when another dentist built up the teeth again. It's a shame. I still wish i had never stepped foot in that office. Before going to Roybal, i had no idea what jaw pain felt like. read more

Not unlike a couple of the other reviewers here, I also had a terrible experience with Dr. Roybal. The crown he put in was a terrible fit, I returned several times to get it adjusted and it never was made right plus the staff and the doctor seemed irritated that the tooth bothered me so much. I have lived in many places and have needed a lot of dental work over my long life and never had I had such a bad experience as I have with Dr. Roybal. The office is beautiful and the staff were friendly enough (if disorganized - I had my previous charts and xrays sent over twice and they still didn't get them in my file), but I would rather have an unimpressive office and better care. Dr Roybal charges for an office visit & separately to actually see him - he made a bridge for me that had a gap - it broke at the gap several years later & he charged 300$ to fix it - one of the teeth does not match existing tooth - I have been wearing a bridge for over 20 years & this was both the most expensive & shoddiest work I have had in all that time read more

Firstly I want to say that Dr. Royball is an excellent dentist. His receptionist is horrible. I have been going to Dr. Royball off and on for 20 years. Off when I wasn't living in Santa Fe. My son went to him and we both have had enormous amounts of dental work done with him. My son when in High School had over $19,000 worth of work and about $25,000 worth for my self... But I have been Very happy with it. But recently I was told at my cleaning that I had to have over $3,000 in work done to repair decay under two crowns .. Ok I wasn't planning on spending that money money... who does. I got to the receptionist and she said it had to be done immediately. I had no pain and I saw the Ex rays they were tiny little black spots on two teeth. She pushed me into an appointment the next week. I was really busy but felt so pressured I said ok. The day before my appointment i came down with a terrible cold ... She told me I HAD to come in anyway. I said there was no way I could go upside down in a dentists chair with my head full ... She repeated that I HAD to come in or I would be charged a 48hr cancelation fee. I said that is just not fair I am honestly sick..you can hear how sick I am. She made a big deal about letting me off the hook this ONE TIME... I also said that $3,000 was something I wasn't really wanting to pay right now... Oh we will put you on a payment plan although she didn't tell me what that was. Between this phone call and the date the beginning of the next week I received 5 reminder calls to not miss my appointment !! The last one came from an UNKOWN caller. Each time I was more exasperated and said I KNOW I AM COMING !! After the last phone call and now 1 day away from the actual appointment I called the receptionist back and told her that I was so upset at being pushed so hard that I was going to cancel all Together and I would find another dentist. Instead of trying to make amends she chastised me and told me I had signed a contract that I had to pay for the appointment anyway and a cancelation fee. That was the last straw ! I told her I quit Dr. Royball. AND I actually think he is a GREAT dentist but she is so pushy I never am going back because of her..... AND.... PLEASE tell Dr. Royball that it wasn't HIM it was HER !!!! I thought after all these years of going to him and my family my ex husband and his son also go to him on my recommendation I would at least get an apology from either the Dr. himself or from her. I haven't heard a word from either of them. I assume she never told him about why I left their practice. I would actually go back if there had been an apology and a much lighter sell. But there hasn't been. In the course of the last phone call I said You are Health CARE providers. There is NO CARE in this treatment of me. Like I said he is a good dentist but his receptionist has no idea how to deal with patients. read more

After moving to Santa Fe from New York fifteen years ago, I tried to find a local dentist whom I could trust as much as my NY dentist. I had a terrible experience with one local dentist who pressured me to have all sorts of things done to healthy teeth and had a very unprofessional staff who seemed focused only on setting me up to spend as much money as possible. So I decided to continue with my excellent NY dentist whenever I could go there. Recently I heard about Dr. Roybal, and I made an appointment. What a wonderful surprise he and his staff were as they provided me a new crown and filled two teeth. Dr. Roybal and all his staff are extremely competent and professional in every way. What a relief to find this dental office in Santa Fe! I will never go to any other dentist in Santa Fe, and I no longer need to go to NY to get dental work done. read more

This dentist was one of two recommended to me by a friend. When I contacted Roybal's office, I never got past the receptionist, who put me on hold for a lengthy amount of time. When she returned to the call, she had forgotten my request, and when I attempted to explain my needs for the second time, she talked over me not allowing me to finish. She was rude, and unprofessional. When I mentioned it might be better for me to contact another dental office she hung up on me before I'd finished speaking. It is unfortunate that I will be unable to say anything positive about Gabriel Roybal's services due to a poorly trained receptionist. read more
