I just got my 2nd new crown with Dr. Rufo and his staff. Excellent work. One visit did it all. No temporary. Crown created in the office while I waited.. Front desk helped me contact my dental charge company to request & receive an increase in my policy to charge the visit. Couldn't be more pleased with the friendly staff and service. read more

I had a crown inserted three weeks ago by Dr. Rufo. Because of all the pain I am having from it I went back to the office yesterday. Dr Rufo barely examined the problem area and reshaped the crown a little and made the pain worse. He recommended I take Advil. I woke up in unbearable pain today and called the office. I am now on antibiotics and pain medication. Why did't he see this yesterday. I have not been able to eat or sleep from the pain, and now my jaw is sore and swollen. I see the other reviews are favorable, but different doctors. I am going to a different dentist to have this corrected. I gave a one star rating because there is no -1. read more

I had a new patient exam with Dr Rufo. I was told that I needed a deep cleaning procedure after he measured the pockets in my gums. He said I had periodontal disease. He sent someone in to go over the out-of-pocket cost of the procedure which amounted to over $900. I have never had gum disease, and I see a dentist every 6 months. I promptly schedule a consult with a different dentist and he also measured the pockets in my gums. The numbers were drastically different! He said I do not need a deep cleaning procedure done and my teeth and gums looked very healthy. Beware!!!! read more

Wife went in to get wisdom teeth pulled. They brought in a contractor to do it. They ripped her filling off her tooth doing it and left the bone spur on the tooth next to the tooth they pulled out. She woke up in tremendous pain. She called for an emergency visit took her ten day to get it. Ten days ago f horrible pain. They don't have emergency slots for patients. When she went back they jabbed her three times to num the area and hit a nerve that made her back and body spasm. And they did the procedure without her being fully numb. read more

I've had a root canal (Dr. Wilson), and 4 crowns (Dr. Wynn) done here, and I cannot say enough great things about the entire crew. Dr Wynn really cares about the patient's comfort and explains everything very well. The crowns fit perfectly the first time, and are comfortable. The root canal and permanent crown only took about 3 hours which is fantastic. In and out quick and very satisfied. read more

This dental practice has some real issues servicing clients at the moment. When I first used them, I was happy with the service. More lately, the lack of a dedicated dental hygienist and what looks like a part-time doctor has been frustrating. I had an appointment some 2+ months ago -- the office cancelled and rescheduled. The second appoint was cancelled again and I was told I needed to be put on a wait list. I have not heard anything in over a month and as I tried to explain, calling me at the last minute because there is capacity does not work for me. I have now found a new dental practice and do not look forward to a call from SF Dentist about an opening the next day that I should take. read more

So I recently received a statement from delta dental for an appointment I had at SF Dentist office in August. The statement shows that my insurance was charged for an exam and x-rays. Problem is I did NOT do x-rays. As a matter of fact this particular appointment was to have my 6mos cleaning which I never got either. I refused the x-rays because I did not understand why I was having to do them every year and it felt like they were just bilking my insurance. I was taken to a room and put in the chair and waited for about half an hour. Finally one of the workers comes in and apologizes and told me the hygienist was on vacation and the dentist would be doing my cleaning but he was with another patient. I waited another 20 min when the girl comes back to polish my teeth. I thought that was kinda backwards since they do that at the end of the cleaning but figured whatever if it would help get me out of there sooner. After she finished I waited another 15 or 20 min. Finally the dentist comes in to examine my teeth. He says I need a deep cleaning and recommended I have my regular cleaning along with the deep cleaning. He sends in a young lady to discuss pricing because insurance does not cover very much of a deep cleaning. I was told my portion would be a little over $700. I told them that just was not in the budget at the moment. The worker told me a few times that because I was refusing the deep cleaning my insurance would not cover even a portion of the procedure for 18 mos. That is all fine and dandy cause I still do not have that money in the budget. She than asked if I wanted to schedule my regular cleaning the following week. WTF?! I had just lost an hour of work for literally NOTHING! I told them I would find a different dentist and that I was NEVER going back there. I am convinced because they are a corporation they are big on upselling. I should have snapped from my very 1st visit a few years back. I did xrays of course at my initial appointment. The dentist pointed out a dark spot on the x ray and said it was a cavity that needed to be filled. I made an appointment for the filling but as my appointment got closer I did not have the money for it so I cancelled the appointment. I never got around to rescheduling. Funny thing is after annual x rays and exams the cavity was never mentioned or seen in an xray again. Things that make you go hmmmm Anywho I called Delta Dental and they are going to look into it and ask for proof of the x rays. Be careful with this company and better yet, avoid them like the plague! read more

I was not told two very important pieces of information when making the appointment: They currently have no dental hygienist and the first appointment is 2 hours long. Also, my insurance pays all dental up to $2,000 a year and they had me personally pay for an extra service when all was well under the $2,000. One hour and 15 minutes of that 2 hour appointment was me waiting in the chair with no explanation. So, for a cleaning, xrays and exam it was two hours. I figured out I have had about 120 cleanings in my lifetime and NONE were two hours long, even for the first appt with xrays. The dentist was kind and it was not her fault that the office is so poorly managed. I had to keep leaving the chair to see if they had totally forgotten about me being there. They would say things like, "The dentist is ready and will be right in to do your exam." They kept saying that so and so is ready and will be right in, but they never were "right in". Each time I had to go find someone. I have had many cleanings/exams in Mexico and Central America and found the staff to be equally competent and much more honest and caring. Also, the staff person at the front desk was the most unwelcoming person I have found at a front desk. Zero communication skills. I will be looking for another local dentist here in Santa Fe. read more

Dr Montgomery is a fine gentle dentist! I recommend him highly! We are currently going through fitting of a lower partial and right now. I have a temporary that the Dr has been trimming to get it comfortable. He is diligent and was thorough and gentle during the extractions. read more

I am so scared of dental work and dentists, due to pass experiences as a kid and growing up with horrible teeth and being told over and over and over your teeth are bad can really damage kid and have them grow into that fear of dental work. There has been only one place that made me feel comfortable that I want to get my checked and now i have found my second place. The techs are so nice and sweet and very patient. I know I come off shy and rude, but the staff were very patient with me. Looking forward to building a dental record here. :) read more

With research at Santa Fe in finding a new dentist, we settled on this one for several reasons, modern, pleasant staff, and easy access. Today I had a wisdom tooth extraction (last one was 25 years prior). We found the receptionist (Kasey) professional and efficient (even though I could tell she was busy). Once I was placed in an exam room the other staff members were most professional and congenial (each one took the time to pleasantly convey each step of today's visit to my satisfaction). Dr. Montgomery was my DDS, I liked him instantly, he was professional and efficient. He made me feel at ease and took the added time to patiently explain all the steps he would make and how they would impact me. After very sophisticated x-rays, etc., and numbing shots, Dr. Montgomery expertly removed my tooth (the extraction was so painless I didn't even know the moment the tooth was actually pulled). I was amazed, and have experienced no pain or swelling so far. Dr. Montgomery is a pro, and his staff are all-stars! Granted this is just an initial visit, but I hope to continue patronage as I have other issues addressed in the future. read more

If you ever need a good quality dentist, check out Dr. Mason. He has been working on my bridge now for a few weeks and made sure that when it was the wrong color he sent it back to be remade, when it was a wonky fit, he worked for hours milling it until it was perfect. He never once made me feel bad about my messed up teeth. He also offered several solutions to fix them instead of trying to sell me million dollar implants. He is a perfectionist and has a great personality. I highly recommend him. Although I tagged the office downtown, he is actually right next to Walmart on Herrera drive. The office staff is friendly and treat you like they've known you all your life. The hygienists and assistants are fabulous as well. Check them out if you need work done. They also take emergencies! read more

Watch your wallet. They overcharge for procedures and refuse to provide the insurance with the necessary information so that they can charge the patient their high price and not the price contracted with the insurance. Moreover I fully agree with another reviewer, they really strip you bare with the deep cleaning by adding all kinds of unnecessary applications. read more

if there were no stars I' d choose that: a Sham and racket. The cleaning is not $59 as they advertise. After 2:40 min, you find out it is going to be $500 if you have super light perio work (4-6 pocket in the mollars only). You try to pay for the useless examination and they don't have cash. read more

I was displeased with my prior dental BUSINESS, Ahh Dental...they are predatory (I felt a little bit like an elderly woman facing an immoral auto mechanic), not to mention a "the-right-hand-doesn't-know-what-the-left-hand-is-doing" syndrome within their front office. Anyhow, I thought I'd try out Santa Fe Dentist Office. I went in earlier today - they are friendly, personable, efficient, and knowledgeable! From Casey, the appointment scheduler (she couldn't be any more flexible and friendly), Erika, the financial manager, up to Greg, one of the dentists, they all were outstanding. I was especially impressed with one of the dental techs/assistants there by the name of "Jolly" - she sure does know her stuff AND she is very experienced, pleasant, and skilled. I'm 61, hard to satisfy in this changing world that we live in, but SFDO has earned themselves a new customer! read more

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. I show up to what was supposed to my first appointment and it takes literally 10 minutes for someone to show up at the front desk to greet me and check me in for my appointment. The lady that finally comes in to check me in is in bad mood and extremely passive to begin with. She presents herself to be very unprofessional. No "hello" and no "sorry for the wait." Then, she proceeds to tell me that my insurance isn't processing and tries to work on it. So I sit and wait. She then calls me up and tells me it's not still not processing. She has no solution. So I finally decided to leave when I should've done that within the first 5 minutes of not being greeted. She didn't apologize for any inconvenience or wasting my time. I didn't even bother trying to speak to a supervisor because this place is obviously incapable of helping their patients. Truly disappointed. Has the potential to be a nice place if they hired better employees. read more
