But compared to Mexico City, Juarez is so much cleaner and nicer looking. Locals I crossed all said that all the violence shown in the news is located in the center of town which is no where near this area. I saw no signs of problems. I didn't venture out a lot, but I did walk to the stores just across the street from our hotel a couple of times. Hotel choices right by the embassy were plentiful. And I do mean right by it. Next door, across the street... within one or two blocks there had to be 20 hotels. Big chain hotels and little hotels. I looked carefully at most hotels in the area on sites like TripAdviser, Google Ratings, Yelp, Orbitz and others before I chose. I chose one a little further away, reasons listed below. A ton of restaurants around including Denny's, Applebees, Wing Nuts, Little Caesars and other familiar restaurants, as well as a million local joints and the oh-so-tasty street vendors. Right across the street there are 10 restaurants. The hotel I chose and why... I stayed at the La Quinta Inn that was about 3/4 a mile away from the embassy. There were a lot of hotels closer but this had some of the better reviews and things I thought important. I chose this hotel because it had a pool, a gym, a hot tub, guest laundry, free breakfast, in room fridge and microwave, free wifi, in room coffee and more. That has made the stay of "staying in my hotel a lot" much more pleasant. Also, I opted to get the suite (a bedroom and living room), it was just $10 more a night and very worth it! I averaged about $80 a night that I was there. Also, the hotel was gated, security guard at the gate 24/7. In addition to all this, the hotel offered a shuttle to the airport, to all of my appointments, the embassy, the border, to DHL/FedEx locations, local restaurants and shopping centers. Anywhere I needed to go, they took me. When I was ready to come back, I called and they picked me up within 15 minutes or so. Having a microwave and fridge with a ride to the grocery store cut costs on eating out, though I ate out a lot anyway just because I love the local flavor. In addition, it cut the need to go out. Then of course, the free breakfast in the morning helped a lot to. The breakfast wasn't just a continental style breakfast, but rather eggs, potatoes, beans, fruits, cereals, juices, milk, yogurts, coffee, quesadillas and more. It also changed a bit each morning. The hotel was clean and nice with daily room cleaning service. Beautiful and well kept with the staff more than willing to help any way they can. They bent over backward for me. They also had room service for dinner with most meals running around 70 to 100 pesos (not a bad price at all considering it was room service and 100 pesos translates to about $6.50 American dollars.) Almost everyone here was staying here for a consulate visit or business with the embassy. A very large grocery store was about a 5 minute walk, 1 minute drive up the street. It was a chain store called S-Mart. Never seen one before but they are all over here. Prices for everything., since it is a border town, were just slightly lower than what I'd pay in Utah but not really a significant difference. The hotel has a small sundry shop with minimal necessities in it and a few drinks, including a limited choice of beer. Rooms also have an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, work tables, plug in and wifi internet (free) and a closet with hangers. A note, rooms with fridges: turn your fridge on as soon as you get there. They turn them off to save energy so don't just assume it's cold and put your goods in it. I had to make some copies, which they kindly helped me out with. Laundry tokens were just under 100 pesos but that included soap, dryer sheet and the washer and dryer. The gym was well equipped, never crowded. I'd stay here again in a second and never look elsewhere. My flight arrived in Juarez at 8AM, knowing that check in time usually is much later than that I called the hotel in advance and asked about the possibility of checking in early. The assured me they would do every thing they could but could not guarantee anything. I was here by 9 AM, checked in at the front desk where the clerk told me no rooms were available yet but I they could secure my luggage and I could help myself to the hotel facilities, including a very much needed breakfast and coffee. By 11 AM, they had a room ready for me. Just amazing service. Especially for a hotel that gets booked solid probably every day, they could turn away people and still be full. Simply, the best service oriented hotel I've ever stayed at. I've stayed at well over a hundred hotels so that's saying a lot. It isn't the fanciest, doesn't have the biggest (or warmest pool), no plush bar or restaurant on the bottom floor; but it has everything you need and service, good service.

They were unable to take us to the airport due to our flight being in the morning. They would take sometimes up to an hour to pick us up or be available to take us somewhere which was understandable. It was convenient having the transportation though. The good thing is that the medical clinics provide transportation as well. They will also provide transportation to pick up the medical exam results. The breakfast was great. They provided a traditional Mexican breakfast with beans along with scrambled eggs and ham or hot dog almost everyday. There was also another main dish served that varied from chili with potatoes and meat from chilaquiles. There was also sweet Mexican bread, fruit, yogurt, milk, juice, coffee, and tea. Having a microwave and mini fridge was also very convenient. There are a few places to eat across the street and Wal-Mart is walking distance. The lady, Carmen,who cleaned our room was very friendly and was great at providing information about the city. We felt very safe in our hotel and in the city. There are many other people going for their visa interview and many of them are willing to share their experiences or provide advice.

Like all Holiday Inn Express properties, this hotel focuses on the basic essentials that help ensure a quality stay and it has a modern contemporary design. The amenities are relatively simple with just a small gym with 3 cardio machines and a set of free weights, and no on-site bar or restaurant. They have a few shelves of sundries and snacks in the lobby that guests can purchase, but were often out of basics like water and soft drinks. That said, there's a solid Tex-Mex restaurant just next door, and the mall across the street has a large variety of stores and restaurants (much like any larger shopping mall in the USA) and also a full-service Total Fitness gym. The TV had a large variety of channels and WiFi was simple to connect to, though during our final day the internet was very spotty and slow - an issue which seemed to plague this entire area of the city, not just our hotel. The in-room coffee maker was appreciated, though this Holiday Inn Express doesn't provide in-room safes, refrigerators or microwaves. Room service attendants were friendly, accommodating and they're happy to offer full housekeeping if you'd like, or just provide things like replacement towels, complimentary bottles of water and coffee packets. The checkout time, which is normally 11 a.m. at most US hotels, was 2 p.m. here. This hotel offers a shuttle to the airport, but for some reason they have no shuttle service from Juarez airport to this hotel. Taxis often park along the street next to this property, available for guests needing a ride. In our experience, however, if you're not lucky enough to find a taxi waiting there and the hotel staff need to call one, the wait can be very long. Likewise, we attempted to use Uber here twice, and both times we cancelled after the app failed to find a driver for us after several minutes of attempts.

Este hotel recibe con gusto el pago completo por adelantado, pero si por alguna emergencia humana o situación fuera de tu control necesitas cancelar o mover tu reservación, simplemente se quedan con tu dinero y no les importa absolutamente nada. Yo pagué por adelantado una estadía de 10 días completos porque tenía programada una cita muy importante en el Consulado de Estados Unidos en Ciudad Juárez. Desafortunadamente surgió una emergencia seria y adicionalmente mi proceso consular tuvo que cancelarse inesperadamente. Al comunicarme con el hotel esperando al menos una mínima consideración, me encontré con una actitud fría, cerrada e indiferente. It strikes me as an older hotel that had a facelift awhile back (not new, but also not ages ago.) Checkin was easy and there was plenty of parking around back. The decor is medium browns and...calming. The room was spacious enough, the bathroom decent, the fridge definitely worked (we used it), and there was a microwave and blackout curtains. The bed was alright - standard med firm (not pillow top or anything), the bed was made nicely and the linens soft, and all the lamps have outlets for device charging. The continental breakfast is what you'd expect - yogurt, muffins, toast, juice, coffee, fruit, and someone was making waffles. (At least it looked like a waffle maker.) Not sure if it was just our bad timing, but the jacuzzi was not heated. Neither was the pool (not really a complaint, just still kinda cold- summer temps hadn't warmed it yet.) Also, no loungers like in their pictures-and the pool area pic is the most flattering angle for the pool area - it's wedged in a corner and even smaller than it looks. If lounging poolside is your idea- this ain't a relaxing kinda spot. My only other complaint was the cable...no channel listing provided, no channel channel so you could see what was on (or soon to be). And the remote sucked (were tech-savvy enough to manage using such things- this one was either worn out or needed new batteries.) Overall, I'd definitely consider coming back but I'd call to check on the jacuzzi (I was really looking forward to that amenity.)

The gentleman working the breakfast area was incredibly kind and frequently checked on guests. The manager (jet-black hair and a big black mustache) was also very friendly and welcoming. There's a Starbucks right in the parking lot. The lobby and exterior were attractive and well-maintained. You can tell someone takes pride in the property's appearance. Unfortunately, the guest rooms told a different story. Our first night was spent in a double queen room where the towels smelled strongly of mildew and the heater took forever to warm the room. For the remainder of our stay, we moved into a king suite with a rollaway bed. Initially I was excited. More space, bigger bed, huge closet, and even a balcony! Then reality set in. The balcony was filthy and the view wasn't exactly something I'd call scenic. The bathroom doorknob was broken, the bathroom door didn't fit properly in the frame, and the ceiling was actually coming down. Every time the door opened or closed it scraped against the ceiling. There was also a leak under the sink, forcing us to use our bath towels to soak up water. The biggest disappointment, however, was the housekeeping staff. Several employees appeared visibly irritated when we declined room service early one morning. One employee became noticeably upset and began loudly speaking in Spanish while looking directly at me. When I asked if there was a problem, the answer was "No." Whether there was a misunderstanding or not, the interaction felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. I reported it to the front desk, but it seemed to be brushed aside. Overall, the hotel staff at the front desk and breakfast area were wonderful, but the condition of the room and the housekeeping experience overshadowed the positives.

I arrived late in the evening and the lady at the desk rushed me through check in without bothering to inform me of the amenities or when breakfast was served. I'm very familiar with these things but this was the first time they were not mentioned. I was given the option to pick which floor I would like to be on and I chose the ground floor. I'm usually assigned to the second or third floor so I thought not having to go up the stairs would be nice for a change. Oh how wrong I was... My room was really close to the lobby and I could hear the muffled voices and shuffling of every person who walked through the area. Someone had a really bad cough and they weren't being quiet about it. I went to the soda fountain a couple of times during the night to refill my cup and the lady at the desk scowled at me every time. I guess I was interrupting the videos she was watching on her phone. The noise from the lobby eventually quieted down and I was able to fall asleep around midnight, but then I was abruptly woken up at 5am by the fire alarm. I wasn't sure what it was at first because it was a sharp shriek that cut off and repeated every 10 seconds or so instead of a continuous siren like most fire alarms. I went out into the hall to see other guests wondering what was going on. I went to the front desk and another employee was fiddling with the emergency controls in the red box on the wall. She was manually silencing the alarm every time it went off, which explained the sudden cut off in the noise. She asked what I wanted and I asked if there was an emergency and if we needed to evacuate. She nonchalantly told me that someone was either smoking in their room or tampering with the fire alarm but there was no emergency. I was concerned about the latter statement but she told me there was nothing she could do about it. She was on the phone with someone (maybe the management, or maybe the fire department) but I was too irritated to care so I went back to my room. Many more guests had entered the lobby in various states of confusion and concern but they were also told "no emergency." I tried going back to sleep but I couldn't due to all the other people in the area, and then I started hearing what I thought was an air compressor filling it's tank. I couldn't figure out what the noise was exactly, but it happened every 5 minutes and would last about 30 seconds before stopping. I went back to the hallway and looked at the elevator but it made a different sound. Since sleep was no longer an option, I stayed awake and packed up around 7:30am. On my way to the lobby I heard the sound again and realized that it was being made by these two commercial refrigerators in a closet at the end of the hall. I was sort of right in the fact that it was a compressor making the noise, but I didn't think a refrigerator was the cause. There was a different lady at the desk and she didn't ask about my stay when I checked out. She asked if I wanted my receipt, but that was it. If she was informed about the chaos that happened a few hours earlier, I imagine she didn't want guests to have the invitation to complain by asking "how was everything?" I was too tired and pissed off to say anything so I left. I had booked my reservation three weeks ago and got a great deal on the one night for $80 (it was actually $95 after taxes). My previous stay at this hotel was about three months ago and after last night, I'm seriously reconsidering staying at this hotel again. Oh, there's also an abandoned van sitting in the parking lot. It's been out there for at least five months and the tires are all flat. I asked the staff about it during my last stay because I keep seeing it but they told me it wasn't their concern. So a broken down, abandoned vehicle languishing in your parking lot isn't your concern? Ok.

The room and common areas were spotless, and there were no weird or unpleasant smells, which honestly makes a huge difference when traveling. The front desk staff were also very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Breakfast was included, which was a nice bonus, although it's more of a light breakfast -- mostly pastries, cereal, yogurt, apples, and bananas. Just something to keep in mind if you expect a hot breakfast. The only major downside was the air conditioner in the room. It seems quite old and makes a lot of noise, to the point where it was difficult to sleep with it on. But without it, the room became stuffy. Opening the window wasn't really an option either because of the highway noise outside. It would be great if the hotel could replace or repair the AC units in the rooms, because aside from that, the stay was genuinely very good.

It is obvious that this hotel was recently updated and renovated (from my understanding it is converting to Days Inn). I was very impressed with my room, pool/hot tub area, front desk area and parking lot. The hotel is well lighted, safe and quiet. Room was equipped with a microwave, mini refrigerator, hair dryer, cable TV, great lighting, excellent window blinds, and a nice desk area and another table and chair. No coffee maker (these will be coming to rooms in near future), but they have juice and coffee available in lobby area in morning (breakfast is also to be added in near future). There are also a number of resturants and stores in the area. Staff is friendly and price was very good, and probably the best lower priced room I have ever stayed in. My bed was also very comfortable, room extremely clean, AC worked well and efficiently, all linen and towels fresh and clean, and the toilet paper even had the end water marked. Only things I thought could of been better is shower waste pressure was a little lower than I perfer and towels not as soft and full. Just be aware they require a $100 room deposit which the CC authorization is cancelled the day of checkout provided the room is not damaged. Definately recommend this hotel and will stay here again if in area. I also had a nice conversation with Cynthia during mu check out.
