Covered parking, in unit w/d, dishwashers, pool, jacuzzi, gym, secured entry, elevators, balconies, a clubhouse, easy access to the freeway and metro, The management staff were the cherry on top. City Lights on Fig has been a great place to be and live! I recently moved in, but I've been here many times before, as my fiancée lived here for about a year before I moved in. The units have nice layouts and are well priced, and it's been nice to move into a place I know has good management. The whole staff is great! They're really friendly, easily accessible, and get things done quickly. When I moved in, Jennifer and Ian made the entire process smooth for both of us and were in constant communication during the application process. I had a very disappointing experience with this property. I called the day before my scheduled tour around 4:45 p.m. asking about a two-bedroom, 1.5 bath. I was told it was available at the price I was looking for. Ian told me the earliest I could come in was 11 a.m., so I was scheduled for the first tour slot the next morning at that time. When I arrived at 11 a.m., there was a woman sitting behind the desk on the computer, appearing to be an employee. She mentioned that she and/or her partner were applying for the exact unit I had scheduled to see (Unit 211). Shortly after, Ian told me the unit was "no longer available" because she was applying for it right then. This felt unfair and unprofessional--if someone was already applying before my scheduled time, I should have been notified before making the trip. What left the worst impression is that the person applying seemed affiliated with the property (given she was behind the desk), which raises concerns about favoritism. On top of that, I had tried to apply online the night before, but the system kept changing the rate to $2,700, which prevented me from applying at the listed price. I also asked if they could honor the quoted rate on a different unit, but was told no--it would be nearly $800 more, which put it out of my budget. Altogether, this felt like a waste of time and gave me a very bad impression of how the management operates. Basic courtesy, transparency, and consistency with pricing should be the standard. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property based on my experience. read more

From the moment we walked into this community we knew this was home. Very quiet And reserve, amenities are great depending on what you are looking or interested on. There is a nice size pool, jacuzzi and also a gym! If you need to get out of your apartment to get some work done and just because there is a leaving area with a lot of room to seat which you can also rent and have your private event. There is a fridge and sink and storage area there as well if you have an even and need to put stuff away and prep for your party. You can walk everywhere and also walk to the corner to take the metro. Convention center and Crypto are pretty much across the street, with ground level and under ground parking I believe we have pretty much everything. Btw when something goes wrong I your unit service calls are always on point and fast! Everyone in the office is always friendly and there to help. I almost forgot to mention there a dog section on the side of the building and yes our building is dog and cat friendly!!! read more

City Lights is a wonderful apartment complex to make home. The pricing is reasonable considering the location in the best area of downtown. The units are nice with balconies for a fresh outdoor space. The building has great amenities including a pool and gym. It is also dog friendly with a designated area. It is a smaller complex which allows for a more hands on approach and individual attention from management. There is a sense of care from the staff to create a positive experience. Maintenance issues are addressed promptly and effectively. Along with the staff, The fellow residents are pleasant creating a nice environment to be surrounded by. I have lived here for a little over a year now and I love it! I have had great experiences with the front office staff/maintenance/security, with any maintenance requests getting fixed very quickly. My disposal recently broke and they had it completely replaced within 2 days. I haven't had any packages stolen and there are rarely loud neighbors. The amenities are awesome and the pool/hottub is cleaned/serviced every morning, which I really appreciate for keeping it nice and clean. I recommend living here to anyone who asks me for advice, the location is really unbeatable! read more

Only giving it 4 stars cause I've only lived here for 2 months. But so far everything has been amazing!!! First and foremost Jen and Bri made me feel welcome from the jump which was the 1st initial sign I was going to enjoy the complex. Jen gave me a tour and really listened to my wants and showed me everything that was on my list. The application process was straight forward and I was approved fairly quickly. You can't beat the rent pricing for the building especially how convenient the location is, we have covered assigned parking, a pool area, controlled access, security, minimal noise, etc. The apartments are spacious and fairly updated w/in unit washer/dryer, the building is well kept which is a huge bonus for me. We are new to City Lights and so far are loving everything about it. Prior to moving in, the leasing office was VERY accommodating in allowing us to tour 3 different times as we brought our kids and settled on which unit we liked the best. The amenities are great including the pool, jacuzzi and gym. This building is clean and has a nice feel to it, the parking area safe and our large 3 bedroom 3 bath unit is spacious with a LOT of storage inside. Our move in was seemless, the office staff including Ian, Jennifer and Angelica are incredibly helpful. The security guard, Carlos, introduced himself to us on our first night here and made us feel well-taken care of. Our dog loves the dog run area and it is maintained well. Upon move in, we of course, found little things that needed repair like tub stoppers, an outlet not working, a clogged shower head...nothing urgent but little things that needed attention. The maintenance employee Hiro has been exceptional at making appointments to fix all of our requests in a timely and efficient fashion. Everyone we have met so far is kind and pleasant, dog friendly, and respectful. read more

This property is in a great location. Walking distance from Crypto Arena and Convention Center. The building is clean, well maintained, and secure. The Mediterranean style is a refreshing change to the recycled modern esthetic of all the surrounding buildings. It's so calm and serene, it makes you forget you're in DTLA. I've been living at City Lights for a few months now, and I really like it here. I like the smaller size of the complex and the amazing management team, who are available seven days a week. The building is well run and clean (I have yet to see one roach in my unit). I love they have security patrols during the night. I've lived here about 9 months now. I only had a few days to choose an apartment in LA when moving from out of state, and initially thought these were cute, had helpful office staff, and fit my price range. Since then, I've fallen in love with the community. The management team is quick to fix the very few and minor issues I've had, and are beyond friendly and helpful. My apartment is across the street from Crypto and the convention center, and have the best of DtLA and South Park within feet of my secure building. Look- you either are the type of person who is going to love living in DTLA or you aren't. If you are- and you want good closet space, secure parking (even dedicated EV chargers!), in unit w/d, tall ceilings, relative quiet, and building staff that know your (& your dogs's!!) names- maybe look into being my neighbor. read more

I'm still struggling mentally with being here but it does make me feel better to know that something is being done to address some of the issues posed. I'm frustrated with my neighbor and probably more with the construction of the building (i.e. non-carpeted top floors with little sound insulation) and feeling hopeless but with a now fresh and fully rested mind, I know that it's not the fault of the leasing office personnel and I'm appreciative of their efforts. read more

To start, my partner and I lived at City Lights on Fig for over 5 years, and moved out last year. I would recommend staying away from this place solely because of the owner management company behaviors. In the 5 years I lived here, there was at least one management company change per year, and it's really impacted any chance the residents had at having a sense of community or connection with the management team. With every management change, the quality of management decreases significantly. They always try to raise your rent beyond what is legally allowed. I even had to deal with a blatantly wrongful 3-day untenable notice of eviction (more on that later). They didn't even give us a call. We were nothing more than a transaction to them after 5 years. I believe the owner is changing management teams yearly to try and squeeze more and more money out of his residents (but that's just a theory), and it's crushing the livability of this place. In this review, I will focus on the latest management company I dealt with, but I just heard they already changed the management company again in the days since I left, so please keep that in mind. To start, the maintenance people are fantastic. People like Edwin (and Saul previously) are the only reason this apartment remained tolerable to us through the pandemic and onwards. They were quick, kind, and thorough. They cared about the community as much as we did. There was no BS when dealing with maintenance, and I really appreciated it. Secondly the associates in the office were always kind and courteous. They often did not have enough power or leeway to make any meaningful changes when problems arose, but I never had an issue with any of them. Many of them were recently fired with the latest management company change, leaving them unemployed (and homeless if they lived there), despite doing excellent work. As for the managers and regional managers, it was always a problem. Promises of follow-ups were almost never kept. They tried to raise our rent 3 years in a row beyond the legally allowable amount, which we had to fight tooth and nail to get knocked back down. They tried to start charging us for parking, despite our lease explicitly stating we get free parking for the duration of our lease. We were promised a cleaning fee below $150, only to be charged $305 for no absolute reason. Whenever you challenge any illegal activity, the manager in the office actually has no power, and has to go consult a regional manager you have no contact with. Then came the threat of eviction. To start, we have never missed a rent payment. We are quiet and keep to ourselves. However, being there 5 years, and knowing our rights regarding rent increases, we were paying a much lower rate than what newer residents were paying. So you'll imagine my surprise when I found a note in my door at 9pm, which ended up being a 3-day untenable notice of eviction for smoking in our apartment, which we do not do. I was scared. Would we be homeless? Can they only give us 3 days? (Yes). Does untenable mean unchallengeable? (Yes). Why didn't they just call? We went down to confront the situation the next morning, we asked what their proof was. They said the AC in the office (right below our apartment) was smelling like smoke, so they just decided to evict us, even though the ducts are not connected. As we are fighting this, the AC turns on and a smoky smell comes through. They instantly realized it couldn't be us because we were right in front of them and cancelled the notice. I was furious. I lost a day of work, a night of sleep, and was mentally destroyed because they got trigger happy and used the harshest method of eviction possible without even asking us. And we were not the only one who dealt with this. I recommend staying as far away from this place as you can, until they can figure out how to treat residents as residents, and not a coffer to extract the most money possible at the expense of livelihoods. read more

This building has paper thin walls, dismissive management, and hardly functional amenities. If you're about to sign your lease? Don't. You'll never see your security deposit again & they'll still find a way to charge you an extra $700 for work you did for them. The only positive I could've added was about a previous maintenance employee but I'm pretty sure they let him go. Good riddance. read more

The apartment has a new management company and the staff are great. Responsive and very helpful with your questions. Maintenance requests are prompt and overall cleanliness of the complex is kept up. No noisy neighbors and overall chill atmosphere given we are in the middle of DTLA. read more
