My wife and I have been coming to City Nails for at least 3 years, on this visit during Covid-19, appointments are required. There is plastic shielding between you and the staff at all stations. The staff are all very attentive and work with attention to detail, case in point, during my pedi, I have a scar on the top of my right great toe that has a calus, the gentleman noted that and worked on it. Helen always greets us very warmly and it's great to see her each visit. As all reviews for a service such as this, it can be very subjective as to the team member you may have, your past experiences etc but I feel the City Nails team do a great job and I would recommend giving them a try. I've been going here for a while now, and it is by far my favorite place. Everyone who works here is so nice. The salon is clean and you rarely have to wait with an appointment. Also, if you get a manicure that requires a removal like dip powder, they use these machines that you soak your nails in for about 5-10 minutes and they come off effortlessly! So much better that grinding them off or flicking them off with a credit card. The prices are fair and they are totally truthful about how much things cost before they do it. Sadly I have had to stop going to City Nail. I got a pedicure from an employee who was sooo disgruntled and made me feel like an inconvenience. He was loudly sighing and rolling his eyes and would slam his hand down on the foot rest as he completed my pedicure. I wanted to leave because of his hostility. I've been getting pedicures for probably 15 years and I have always squirmed a little during the process-I'm extremely sensitive and pretty ticklish. This has never been a problem with any other pedicure but for the man doing my pedicure at City Nail it was the end of the world. I used to come in here years ago, but then I moved out of NYS. I have fond memories of coming here and one of my good friends in the 518 still loves coming for pedis. I noticed a lot of negative reviews on here for this place, not sure why, I always had positive experiences. I stopped in while in town for the $35 Hot Stone Spa Pedicure. It was very relaxing and pleasant. I'd say my pedicure took about 45 minutes. The lady that took care of me was pleasant enough. The spa seems to be very clean and hygienic. There is an ample amount of parking in the lot, if you come on a weekend you may need to park closer to Home Depot though. I waited to write this review because I wanted to see how my nails would hold up. I'm happy to say that 21 days later, my toe nails still look great and have very minimal chipping. read more

I've been coming here once a month for the past year and yesterday was the last day I will step foot in there again. The staff is unfriendly and ungrateful. I would only get manicures (which is $15) and give 15-20% tip based on how the experience is. Lately its been anything but pleasant. When I went in yesterday, instead of thanking me for my loyalty and business, the girl who did my nails kept sighing heavily (as though I was bothering her) and when it came time to pay, she grabbed the tip right out of my hands and shoved it in her drawer. The place was fairly quiet when it came time to leave, and no one bothered to even look up from their phones to say "thank you" or " goodbye". Basically, customer service is horrendous. The woman who took my nails off drilled too deep into my nails that there was blood underneath them. I told her it hurt so bad I could not put nails in the acetone. I went back and they said it happens to everyone and that I need a break from acrylics, however this was only the second time getting them done and I've never had this experience. I got a pedi and my first anc mani ever. We'll start with the mani. I was not prepared for how my cuticles would be ground down and once ripped away, doused in stinging chemicals. And then the color was applied and jimmy went in with an additional round of grinding and dousing. Never has an attempted spa day been so torturous...he is not even remotely trying to be gentle. My thumb looks super lumpy, and I'm not into how puffy the general appearance is. If you look at these puppies from the side it's as though my nails look chubby. (The one area I thought was safe!) I was also considering getting these tips people have pictured since my nails are tiny, but the girl talked me out of it, and I regret it cause they appear even squattier with the puffy polish application. My pedicure is one of (if not THE) least attractive I've ever had. The girl doing it was training and she did everything up until the actual nail color and the shaping (or lack thereof) and choppy base coat she did is what's causing them to look bad. The girl supervising (jenny) came in to paint on the polish while my girl watched and learned. I totally get that she's learning and she was sweet and I am more than happy to be trained on, but jenny should have pointed out what went wrong and helped her fix it instead of just ignoring it. I didn't see how truly bad it looked until I got home and now I'm really sad I spent $30 on this! I want to take it off and do it better myself. (And it's saying a lot that I could do it better because I am not good.) I will probably still try going back and making an appt with a specific person from the good reviews because they've obviously done a great job with the other nails pictured, but I'm sad about how much money I threw away today. The 2nd star is only there because they were nice and they put in a decent effort, but they do need to set their own standards higher and fix things more readily when they see that they are not well done the first time. read more

I had a horrible experience at this salon. I travel for business and depend on Yelp when looking for a local nail salon. The reviews were good for this place, so I went. Having been in a lot of salons in different cities, this one immediately seemed like a factory cranking people through. And it wasn't very clean at the individual stations. I should have left, but my gel polish was three weeks old and growing out too much. So against my instincts, I stayed. A man named Jimmy was the first person working on my nails, and he was rough. While clipping the cuticle on my right index finger he cut me. I flinched and it bled a little, but he didn't say a word to me. No I'm sorry, nothing. I would have stopped the service and left - but by then he was soaking my old manicure on my left hand with acetone and I felt stuck. As he started on my left hand, a walk in arrived asking for a pedicure, so the desk person said I would have to move to a different station and have someone new finish me so Jimmy could go do a pedicure. So, he grabbed my purse and we moved me to a man named Charlie's station. He was much more gentle, but sloppy. He cut all the nails on my left hand differently then the ones on my right done by Jimmy. By now, I'm just done. I pointed this out to him very politely, and he tried to even them up, but honestly, he just wasn't very good at his job. I asked him if he had any alcohol to put on my cut cuticle, and he put something on it I couldn't identify in a little blue bottle. Frankly, I couldn't wait to get out of there. My nails are EASY. They're natural and strong and I do barely there polish - nothing fancy at all. Yet they screwed it up. My nails are uneven, my finger with the cut cuticle hurts, there is residual polish on my fingers, and one nail has no sheen on it. That for $40. Beware! read more

I gave this place 3 chances over the course of time And each time was a disappointment. This last time (June 2023) was huge rip off! The lady literally trimmed my toes and hardly got any dead skin or worked on plucking back my cuticles or anything that goes along with a pedicure. She just painted my toes quickly, she could not of cared less , I was in the seat probably 15 min from start to finish! I went to city nail on September 3rd to take off my acrylics and to get get a gel manicure. The ladies/gents there did an amazing job with my nails. The lady that did my gel manicure was so careful with my nails, she made sure my whole nail was covered and no excess gel went on my skin. I really appreciated how beautiful it turned out. The picture that I attached to this post is one and a half week old but you can still see how beautiful the job still is. Additionally, the acrylics that I had on before was a pain to get off because I had a lot of bling on it, but the workers were patient and they made sure to not scrape my real nail by accident. I only have one small complaint, when taking off my acrylics, I was able to tell they were annoyed while taking off my acrylics. This made me feel like a bother and not a welcomed customer. This is fine though because later on while they were doing my gel manicure, I had a really good conversation with one of the ladies and it made me feel welcome. I do recommend this place to anyone wanting a manicure. The ladies are nice, the atmosphere is nice and you barely smell the toxic fumes of the acrylics. I am sure to come again. read more

They were very accommodating to what I wanted, though it was hard to get over the language barrier at certain times, I still walked out with a manicure that I am getting tons of compliments on, and that I am particularly fond of. Price was $43 which included a bit of a design (I chose 4 different colors of the ANC, red and black and their sparkly counterparts) Everything seemed clean, and I was taken immediately. (I had phoned ahead to make sure they could take me) There is a check in promotion on yelp for Mondays-Thursdays for 10% off any service, I would definitely try using that the next time. The nails were not smoothed down on the inside and were very sharp. Also, did not smooth out the top of my nails so they were lifted and rushed when I went around 4:00, they close at 8 and had plenty of time to complete my less than an hour nails. The owner Helen's mother, older woman about late 60s, 70s runs the front desk. When I went up to pay after my nails were done, the owner's mother was telling me I need to tip $20 on my poorly done $35 nails. Then she was very RUDE and told me that was how much a 20% tip costed on $35 & that I'm unable to do math. I said no she is wrong, that I had no more cash and she said "No money!? Then pull out your credit card then you have no excuse and more money to finish the tip. You are tipping." Sorry, you can't force someone to tip large amounts of money on a bad service that they refused to fix for me. Then, she told me I was wearing a lot of rings and an Apple Watch so she knew I was wealthy. First of all I am not from money, I had on 3 Pandora rings. They are inexpensive and costed less than $100 for all 3. I was very insulted and felt super uncomfortable in front of everyone there. I told them I am never coming back there again. My friends have encountered the same problem at this place and they all were there at different times/days. I will never recommend this CITY NAIL to anyone. I've come here for years but lately the services have decreased in quality. About two months ago I got a manicure there and the guy messed up 2 of my nails and only fixed it when I pointed it out. Then today I went for a wax and the woman spoke no English. I kept telling her to take the excess off but that I like it thick. She instead made my eyebrows thin. As I started to realize that she was over plucking, I kept asking for a mirror and she didn't understand what I was saying. Then when she grabbed another person who told her what was a mirror, I saw the mess and left the room. The owner could tell I was not happy and gave me a gift certificate for $10 off $25 service but I'm never coming back. How can you send someone that speaks no English do a wax? The quality of their nail polish is poor. I got an acrylic gel set that cost me $50 and the next day my nail polish peeled off. I didn't do any strenuous activity all I did was wash my hands ONCE. Every time I make an appointment they are 30-40 minutes late. They have never been on time. I can understand 10-15 minutes but they are consistently late and it is frustrating for customers who drive here and show up on time and have other things to do. I've been coming here for about two years and I think I'm gonna call it quits. The whole vibe of this place is just oppressive and tense. Usually the quality of the service is decent enough that I can deal with an hour of awkward silence and passive aggressive looks from the staff but the last gel manicure I had was pretty bad. The polish was going on splotchy and when I requested a different polish, the manager came over and told me no because it would take too long. So she did about 3-4 layers. I almost never get manicures or pedicures. I find them to be overpriced in the Albany area. I average them about once a year. Wanting to get a pedicure before heading to the beach, I searched Yelp and landed on City Nail. With mostly good ratings, compared to some pitifully-rated nail salons in the area, I figured it was worth the haul out to Wolf Road -- a trip I generally try to avoid. I made a same day appointment on a weekday evening. There were eight techs and two customers when I arrived at about 6:15pm. I wanted a basic pedicure, and knew from yelp it was $25. I forgot to check in for my 10% off. After picking my color from many options (Opi, Essie, etc.), my technician (ID tag said Mary) showed me a sheet with pedicure options. However, the "basic" pedicure was not on the sheet, and the options on the sheet started at $30. Knowing that the "basic" was indeed an option, I told her I just wanted a "basic, you know, a regular" pedicure. She spent a good amount of time cleaning my cuticles. I liked that when she scrubbed the bottoms of my feet, she attached a disposable scrubber -- it felt more sanitary. She also used a n exfoliating scrub and some lotion on my feet and legs. All that was wiped down with a very hot towel. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of time she spent massaging my feet and legs (3 mins each or so). The tv was turned on the evening news, which I preferred to music or muted soap operas that usually are on nail salon TVs. One negative for me is that a male tech sitting at a booth about 20 feet from the pedi chairs was doing something with a jar of acetone and a brush. I'm not sure if he was cleaning the brush or what he was doing , but it smelled so strongly of acetone that my eyes really stung, and, in fact, bothered me for some time after. Ultimately, my pedicure looked ok. I'd give it a B. It didn't look as polished (pardon the pun) as I have gotten before. Perhaps it needed another coat. There are spots around the cuticle that were not fully filled in. It's definitely better than I can do, but doesn't look like it will last too long (disappointing). What I did like is that, after sitting down at the drying station, my tech noticed that the toe separator had rubbed into my big toe. After trying to fix it, she called over another tech who rubbed it off and started again. She didn't apply a base coat, but did reapply the polish and top coat. It was nice that they didn't just pretend not to see it or try a quick fix. I was offered and accepted a complimentary massage -- about 3 mins. It was a nice bonus. With tip, the basic pedi was still a costly indulgence for something that will only last a few days. I am not sure I'll go out of my way to try City Nails on a frequent basis, but I'm ultimately glad I checked it out. It seemed clean, the techs were nice, I never felt rushed, and its pricing is on par -- if not slightly cheaper -- than other places I've looked up. read more
