this person kept filing my nails until she filed them down to below my skin. She said she was trying to get them all even so she had to keep filing. You can see they are still rough and below where my fingers are. I was coming in to get builder gel with French tips. She wanted to still draw the French tips on. My daughters and I have had our nails done many times at City Nail in Latham. Joy is the absolute best! She is so sweet and really can do any design or color we want. Joy has done chrome , cat eye and any treatment we ask for . She really goes out of her way to give my middle daughter (who has autism) the intricate designs she requests. I don't get all the bad reviews! I was here back in April for a pedicure and had a 4 star experience. I visited in September and I would give it maybe 3 stars. I think it really all depends on who the nail tech is. I would say overall 3.5 stars. I came in around 6pm in the late summer and it was DEAD quiet. I am wondering if the fact that Walmart left this strip mall could be a reason it's less packed. The guy who did my pedicure was pleasant, but I did have a hard time understanding him. I have never left a review before but this woman deserves it. The owner of the establishment was the rudest woman I have ever experienced. I have been going to this salon religiously for 10 years I get the same thing every time ANC +$5 for tip +$5 for almond shape. Today she doesn't ask me how long I want them I said wait I want them a little longer bc they're gonna be shaved to almond shape. She says if you want long extra $5. I said I have come for 10 years and never been charged extra for length the point of the tip is to add length to my nail (I stil get them pretty short so I can function). So very disappointed in this place! I came to get a quick polish change without an appointment and they said it would be 10 Minutes, about 20 minutes later they still didn't take me. They took people who were getting more done. I asked again how long, and they said 10 more mins...still waited but they still didn't attend to me. Just had one of the worst manicure ever. The gentleman doing my nails appeared upset that I didn't want him to Dremel off my ANC polish. I asked him to soak them and I could tell I upset him. He seems very rushed and ruff while filing my nails. While the nails look pretty my hands are a mess. There are remnants of the old polish all over my fingers. Bring a picture to show them what you want if you really can't handle stumbling over a few words with the language barrier. I feel bad they have to deal with such rude and demanding people. Two 20 something year old girls came in demanding money back because her nail polish chipped after three days. Let me clarify, the girl speaking was not the one who had her nails done but was speaking for her clearly 'traumatized' friend. Came from out of town on a business trip and stopped here. Basic pedicure was $27 and worth it. Kiko was a little rough at times but great. They have dips and up to date tips at reasonable rates. Worst Pedicure have ever had! Kept trying to communicate. I should of know better then to just pop in.

I came here with my sister-in-law for pre-wedding mani/pedis. There was a group of about 6 of us, including an 8 year old. We had made appointments and they were pretty good about getting us all done in a reasonable amount of time. There was a lot of staff and all 8-10 pedi chairs were full and people were working hard. My only complaint was they didn't put us all near each other in the pedi chairs so it was a bit awkward. The pedicure lasted quite a long time and was great. The manicure lasted an average amount of time, but I'm terrible about chipping my nails. Their prices were reasonable and it seemed like coupons were easy to come by. My baby wasn't really having it this time (not terrible just a little fussy) and the staff went out of there way to make him happy. I decided to get a mani pedi, as I entered I recieved a welcoming greeting. The manager "Steve"(?) Told me to pick my ANC colors. I showed him a picture of what I wanted done, as I found a picture on Pinterest. I picked out the colors, and was assured it was no problem. Then I picked out my pedi nail polish to match. I was escorted to the pedi chair. Old plastic covering the remote and the cup holder was ....dirty. The young lady showed me a plastic menu, water stained and blurred and asked what I wanted. (I'm a nurse, on my feet sometime 16 hours a day. ) I chose the hot stone massage with callous removal. $35. Pulse $2 for brand new tools. The tools came out of an autoclave not new. (Again I'm a nurse and know the packaging. ) Immediately, the young lady, (who was very sweet but neither could speak or understand English) started her work. After cleaning my feet the massage began. It was rather rediculous, she obviously had 0 training. Literally just rubbed my legs, no pressure, no kneading , no massage. Then she got the hot stones, again, rubbing them up and down my legs. (Okay inexperienced, New to country but working hard and very sweet I gave her a pass.) Then out of the back another young lady came out of the back speaking in another language while looking directly at me said something I did not understand, and she and all the other Asian women began looking at me and laughing. (Feel self conscious much?) My feet were not bad, I take very good care of them so I have no idea what that was about, yet I felt very uncomfortable. Then the painting of nails began. The nail polish was old and gloppy. No problem, she just poured acetone in to thin it. Toenails done , on to fingers. They sat me down at the drying station while I waited for nail tech. I was then escorted to nail table. The young lady looked at the picture and was obviously very nervous. She began unwrapping my nails, I told her I would like tips. Apparently, she too did not understand as she started out putting tips only on my pointer fingers. I then had to show her by pointing at every finger. The girl literally got a terrified look on her face and I told her not to worry she didn't need to do my nails like the picture. She got up, called someone else over they explained sparkles on ring finger, ombre, on middle finger, and solid on every other finer. She apparently couldn't get it. I told her to get Elin, who did a wonderful job doing ombre on my nails two weeks ago. (Obviously, you can't have who you want do your nails here) instead they sat me with Eddy. 2 weeks prior I paid $5 for tip, this time I was charged 10.00, and $2.00 for ombre. My ombre was not ombre, it was gold dust sprinkled on the base of my finger. In total I paid $ 89.00 to be laughed at legs rubbed not massaged, thrown around the shop, gawked at by other customers who watched on as the nail techs circled me trying to figure out how to do my nails. Laughed at by them, even after I expressed they didn't need to do them like the picture. All the time the shop manager "Steve" played on his phone. Umm yea, word of mouth is the best advertisement. This place was dirty, inexperienced, uncomfortable, and unprofessional. I won't be back. Oh and no, my nails are not what I wanted. read more

I have only visited this location twice & I may go for three -- perhaps just to fully under the "Three Strikes & You're Out!" policy...? My boyfriend & I were originally given gift certs. for a pedicure back at Christmas (2013), so we booked app'ts. to go get our pedis. sometime in early 2014. It was his 1st pedicure, ever, so he wasn't sure what to expect, & came out of it saying he'd NEVER get one again! That was my first time & I also came out of it w/ a sub-par, quickly-done, pedicure. I tried again a couple mos. back now (early summer 2014) because I happened to be up in the Latham Farms plaza doing some other shopping & was like, "Eh, I could get a pedicure today..." The man* who performed the service (*term used loosely -- as he was MAYBE 18 yrs. old, if he was a day?) barely spoke a lick of English & had to keep looking to other City Nails employees to "translate" for him. The pedicure was -- just like my 1st experience: rushed & quickly done & though I sat for what seemed like an eternity waiting for my toes to dry, they apparently never FULLY did. Even though I had on flip-flops when I came in, by the time I got home, things were STILL not dry & the polish & its clear top coat were just "goopy". I literally took it all off as SOON as I got home...which was then basically like throwing away the $30-some I'd spent on the damned service!? I have two girlfriends who claim they LOVE this place & it is their "Go To!" nail salon in the area -- but, the 2x's I've tried so far? Yelp's 2-star, "Meh, I've experienced better" definitely sums it up. read more

Terrible expirience! I came here with two women who are disabled. The staff here all gathered to talk about the services we requested grabbing the attention of every one else in the salon. They refused to give one a pedicure because she was unable to sit in their pedicure chairs, since she uses a wheelchair. Besides the humilliation of having the employees surrounding us telling us they would not provide services to her, the other women was not spoken to as she waited with her choice of polish in the front of the store. read more

I've had OK experiences here in the past, and usually liked their pedicures because they last longer than other places...however the last time I went in for a pedicure the guy filed so hard he literally sliced my toe open and I started bleeding. A lot. And never said a word to me about it, no apology or anything (although he did apologize later when he accidentally brushed my arm trying to help me out of the chair). I've been here several times for manicures and pedicures. While City Nail & Spa is usually clean, the service is always hit or miss. The level of service greatly depends on the tech you get. Today, I went in for a mani/pedi. The pedicure was ok. More attention was paid to the massage, but it would be beneficial to have the tech do a little more in the way of nail work- shaping, cuticle removal, etc. My tech also seemed unsure of the steps involved in the pedicure and I had to remind him to do the callous removal. Finally, there is a lot of staff, but most speak very broken English and are difficult to understand. It may be helpful to have someone who speaks English well man the desk and then tell the nail tech what services they will be doing to avoid any confusion. read more

I called ahead to see how much my nails and toes were , I chose to get a French tip but asked if it was extra and no one would answer me so after I got my toes done they charged me 5$ extra and they also charged me another 5$ extra to soak my already more then half way acrylics off and they didn't tell me that was extra either Iv never paid for that , so instead of my bill being 60$ it was 71$ the girls there started an argument with me before I was done then once I paid they told me I couldn't come back, they are nothing but rude and I always catch them talking about me I will never go there again read more

Very disappointed in the pedicure I received. Paid $37 (without tip) for hot stone / callus removal pedicure and lets just say the job was absolutely not done on either foot. This is the second time ive had a bad pedicure. Yes it feels good them massaging your feet and legs but one of the main reasons we get pedicures in winter is the dead skin. Super clean with a wide variety of nail services like ANC / acrylic / gel, friendly people, plus it's newly renovated with nice massage pedicure chairs. I'm shaking my head as I read some of the previous reviews. Yeah, they're busy. Want to know why? Because they're GOOD! Don't want to want long? Make an appointment or try not to go when they're slammed. But don't show up to a walk-in business and then complain that they didn't give you something free because you had to wait. Have a problem with their English proficiency? Please, you're not there for book club -- their English is perfectly fine for the job at hand. If I could I would give them zero stars. I went to get my eyebrows and upper lip waxed. It has been 3 days and my lip feels numb. I've gotten my eyebrows and upper lip waxed multiple times. I usually go to other places but since I was in the area decided to go to them. My lip and eyebrow has broken out terribly and are numb and still feel like they did the day I got them waxed. This has not happened before. It seems like they didnt clean the stuff from the last person that got waxed. Very dissappointed. Do not recommend this to anyone. read more

I have gone to City Nail for manicures, full sets, fill, and pedicures 3-4 times in the past. This last time, I was extremely disappointed. My pedicure went well, but my manicure was very rough. He slipped with the dremel about 4 times, cutting my fingers. Unfortunately, later that night and into the early morning, I began developing a strange rash on my hands and feet. I went to the doctor who diagnosed it as a skin infection as a result of the mani/pedi due to the slip of the dremel. The rash continued to get worse, so I followed up with my doctor who continues to think that I have an infection from the nail salon, but I still don't know how to get rid of this awful rash. To top it off, it is the week of my birthday and this rash is spreading to my arms and legs. It is awful looking, swollen, and extrmemely itchy. What disappointed me the most about this salon is that when I stopped in to show them the rash and explain to them that my doctor concluded that the rash was a result of my mani/pedi, the "manager" of the nail salon questioned me and would not give me my money back because "noone else has every complained." They didn't even care that I am covered in this awful rash that is keeping me from work, the gym, and enjoying my bithday because I can't go anywhere as the doctors do not know if what I have is contagious or not. I will never step foot in that salon again because of the way I was dismissed. The way I was treated was completely uncaled for and I hope that noone else will be unfortunate enough to be covered in the same rash I am experiencing right now. read more
