I've been getting ANC manicures and regular pedicures from Nail Works for the last 4-5 years ... I think that I've had each person who works there at least a handful of times. I've been to a LOT of places around the capital district and now I won't go anywhere else. While I don't get anything fancy, I'm pretty picky about the length of my nails and how they hold up until the next appointment (usually 3 weeks later) ... I always get compliments on how nice they look and feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Another reason I keep coming back is that I never feel pressured into make small talk. I'm not always in the mood to chat, but when I am, we have fun conversations ... I appreciate that they follow my lead. read more

It was my first time here and they were able to take me right away as a walk in. I picked a darkish pinkish ANC color. The older woman that did my nails didn't say one word to me the entire time I was there (1.5 hours). I don't really mind I'm not a fan of small talk but she didn't even ask me what shape I wanted or anything. The way she filed my nails made them look crooked and weirdly shaped. This could just be because of the color I got but she only dipped my nails 2 times and you can still clearly see my nail under the color and it looks terrible. By the time I was able to see that and want to ask for another coat she was already putting the top coat on to finish. (This is petty) but I didn't get any hand lotion after my nails were done which I thought was kinda standard but maybe not? Over all the prices were good, it was a clean environment, maybe there are others that are better there but I'm not very satisfied with her work. I don't think I'll be going back though:( read more

I really, really, really hate to renege what I already wrote about this place. But...after several more visits, I have a few big gripes. I've gotten Shellac/gel nails each time, hoping that the next experience would be better. The first time, the polish peeled off because a bunch of it got on my cuticles. The second time, I made sure the cuticles were clipped better, and the polish still peeled. Then now, I went back the other night, and nothing has peeled yet, but the polish job looks like I did it myself. It was pretty sloppy, with polish on my cuticles, and on the sides of my nail beds. My pedicure isn't better by any means. Pedicures go first in a mani-pedi combo to ensure that your toes are dry by the time your gel is done curing. Normally this is fine. I got home to find that the polish must have been glooped on because my toes were wrecked because of the shoes. There was plenty of time for them to dry. Also, another sloppy job. Finally, the massage jobs and skin care is really short (almost nonexistent), and really had little-to-no pressure. The people here are all very, very nice so it really pains me to re-review this place with less stars, but I've brought up my concerns (especially regarding the cuticles/peeling of the gel), and nothing has improved. If I can't find another place with comparable pricing and better service, then this is an okay option. But...I want a better experience and end result when I go for salon services. read more

As a guy who appreciates a clean, well-kept set of nails, it's important to find a good salon that will consistently treat you with professionalism and courtesy. I love NailWorks for precisely that reason! The office manager is always friendly and polite, and I think Kim gives the best manicures around. You can find cheaper prices at salons that offer coupons and promotions, but I find the prices at NailWorks to be competitive and very fair. I have always been satisfied with the service here and look forward to scheduling a manicure whenever I'm in town. The facilities are clean and pleasant, and they give you your own kit of tools to be kept in a locker in the back, so that you have it waiting when you return and you know the instruments are only used on you. read more

So disappointed in the service I received at Nail Works. I asked for a Deluxe Pedicure, which according to the pamphlet on the table in the waiting room, includes everything in a Spa Pedicure, plus a 20 minute massage and paraffin treatment. After a 3 minute massage, I asked the nail tech if he had heard me ask for a Deluxe. He insisted he did then asked me if I wanted a paraffin treatment as an add on. Understandably confused, I said that the pamphlet on their table stated that a paraffin treatment was included. He insisted that it wasn't, so I asked him to get the pamphlet. I pointed to the Deluxe Pedicure and read the description to him. He audibly sighed, then said ok and proceeded to continue the massage and paraffin treatment. When it came time to pay, I noticed a sign near the register that said "Special Pedicures- Deluxe regularly $50, now $40". When the same nail tech asked me to pay $50, I pointed to the sign and said "This says it's on sale." He insisted it was a different Deluxe Pedicure (although there's only one on the menu and only one pedicure that's $50 - the one I chose) and then the manager came over. They proceeded to speak in their language, then the nail tech stormed off, yelling back "pay whatever you want, just leave." I was shocked by his response as I was not rude to him. I was then informed that the sign near the register advertising the special was old. Shouldn't they take it down if they're not going to honor it?? Needless to say, I will not be returning, which is unfortunate because I was looking for a new nail salon since moving into the area. read more

I just came here for a lip wax and the woman (Kimberly) apparently decided my eyebrows needed to be waxed because she took it upon herself to wax them without asking me...!? I even confirmed with her before we started that we were doing a lip wax. And once the wax is on, you can't really say "stop!" I'm very particular about my brows so I was pretty much having a heart attack, but they turned out ok. I liked the way they were before, but they don't look bad now. She only charged me $13 so I'm assuming I only got charged for the lip wax?? I really don't know what just happened there except that I have less hair on my face now and it was cheap, so all in all, a good experience. :) read more

Definitely would not go back. I called ahead to make sure they had time for a manicure and they assured me they'd be able to do whatever I needed (they close at 8 and it was 6:15). When I got there I explained that I was a bridesmaid in a wedding that weekend and the bride wanted us all to have acrylic nails in a mauve color. My nails were already a length I liked so I asked my tech to keep them long but maybe round out the edges. What I got instead was short, as in almost down to the nail bed, squared nails and an ANC manicure. When I tried to protest he interrupted me to say that this was way better and only a little more expensive. I don't get manicures often for this reason but I was also in a hurry and I didn't want to argue. So I have short nails and he decided on ANC. Whatever. As he was using the dremel to rough up my nails, the tech was taking phone calls, talking to his coworkers and watching the news. As a result, my poor cuticles got chewed up. I jumped a few times and even yelped when the tool jumped off my nail and dug into the side of my finger. To his credit, he apologized and paid closer attention so it didn't happen again. Overall, it was a subpar experience. But it wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't started talking to me about the fact that his family in his home country accepts money to kill people. He was an interesting guy and very nice, but once he brought that up I was pretty uncomfortable. ALSO- I don't know if this is standard in most nail salons (since this was my first mani in 7 years) but you cannot tip when paying with a debit card. So be sure to bring cash or they'll scold you at the register. read more

I had been to this place previously with a friend and the pedicure was just OK--a nice experience and a decent polish job. I went back and things have gone downhill. The first problem was the huge bug that ran from under the coffee table to right under the couch. I jumped up and decided I really didn't need to wait on the couch. Not sure what it was, but it was fast. There were also ants crawling around on the floor in the back where you put your feet down under the dryer. They would benefit from a good pest control service and a deep cleaning. Happy Spring, I guess! I was also really disappointed with the pedicure itself. The technician was elderly and very feeble, not really strong or dextrous enough to do the job. Also, she never asked me what I wanted, just pointed for me to sit down, turned on the massage chair (which I do not care for) and started working. Usually they want to know how short you want your nails, which type of service you want, etc. There was definitely a language barrier with my technician, but there are plenty of people there who can speak English who can help translate. I could have said something, but I felt bad for the lady. She should be retired by now and even though I looked for it, I didn't see her license on the wall when I was leaving. I wasn't confident that the supplies they used on me were new. I asked and was told yes, but they looked like they had been used before. Can't prove it either way, but my gut says they were "recycled." Another small but to me significant thing...the toilet seat was up in the unisex bathroom. There were at least four men working there at the time, and zero male customers. I am just surprised that with a majority of their customers being femaie, the staff isn't more considerate. I hate to sound so picky, but I can't see myself going back there until it sparkles and the technicians are more focused on the customers instead of just processing them like they are on an assembly line. read more

I've been here twice. The first time was five star worthy. They did a great job and I decided to come back. The second time I went there everything was great...until I took off my polish. I got toenail fungus! Granted this could have been from something else and you can take this review for what it is. The older woman at Nail Works gave me a manicure and a pedicure and didn't do a very good job. My nail polish on my toes chipped after a couple of days and she didn't do a good job with the cuticles on my feet or hands. read more

Do not get your eyebrows done here! I have always had excellent shellac manicures, and the occasional pedicure at this salon and have been happy. I got my eyebrows done and they used boiling hot wax, I had to keep asking her to cool it down, and she continued to ignore me. After I told her the wax was burning me, she blew on it, then after asking maybe 10 times for my eyebrows just to be cleaned up, and not thin because I love my eyebrows and wait a long time to get them done, they were almost not there, so thin you can't see them, she waxed off the arch on one eyebrow. I brought her to the front of the salon, in front of the owner and said how upset I was, and was completely ignored, and also charged full price for my services. They have just lost a customer who had been going and bringing friends for the last 6 months. read more

Me and my 2 friends were able to walk in without an appointment and get served almost immediately. The employees were very thorough and friendly. I should've asked for my money back. I just needed a simple manicure with black nail polish. She cut up every finger while she was buffing them. When it came time to paint I think a 5 year old right handed kid could've done a better job with their left hand. The paint was everywhere except where it supposed to be. The paint was all over my skin but not even covering all of the nail. I had to ask her 3 times to cover the nail with nail polish which you would think is common practice. Then, while I was drying my nails I pulled them out of the dryer to check on the progress and noticed that she literally painted my pinky nail a different color. 9 of my nails are regular black paint and my pinky nail is black with dark red glitter in it. I was past the point of caring so I just left. Even if someone offered to pay for my next manicure at this place I would decline. Lastly, they have Asian pop music on.... I get it that that's maybe what they like to listen to but don't you think your English speaking customers would prefer something they can understand? read more

The place is clean however, the manicurists are very rude. I speak Vietnamese and the woman who did my nails did not realize that and would talk about many of the customers in the store. She was very shocked when she later realized that I was Vietnamese and still did not apologize. And when she did my nails, they could've been better. She still fixed any of the imperfections when I asked but the nails still were painted on poorly, she kept missing all of the corners of my nails which indicated she was new or just a poor manicurist. read more

Been going here for years and was very disappointed with my pedicure today. There was some new girl who did mine and she was horrible. She was too busy watching the tv and would pause in the middle of my massage to watch tv,. My entire pedicure was 30 minutes and then I had to come home and fix what I could. She didn't clip my nails, filed them but they are crooked, sections of my nail don't even have nail polish on them and she got nail polish all over my skin and flip flops. If I didn't have a newborn at home, I'd be going back tomorrow to ask to have them done over but it's not that easy to find somebody to watch my child. read more
