City Nights - Dance Clubs Near Me - San Francisco, California

Long gone are my teenage years of clubbing at the "18 and over" City Nights, but if anything can bring me back to those days, it's Mortified. I attended the show at this alternate location in SF on Friday night, and had a blast as usual. The venue worked well for the event, for the most part. No balcony seating like the DNA Lounge (the usual spot for Mortified), but they had more bar height tables and chairs for couples on the side, and open seating both on the floor and along the back wall on a raised level of the main room. A small bar in the back corner too. Excellent lighting, and great view of the stage from anywhere. Technical difficulties occurred at multiple points of the event, related to the sound and screen display. They did short music clips in between readers' performances since there was no live band for this particular show. Sometimes the music volume would be excruciatingly loud, and at times the images were projected off the screen or were accidentally changed mid-performance. Can't speak of the nightclub atmosphere here, as it's been decades since I've experienced that. But based on my recent visit, I'd say the venue overall was decent for an event space, and even if not perfect, I still had a good time. read more

Avoid if you're over 21 cause this place will be filled with outrageous teenagers. Insane price for drinks to the point I felt that should be illegal. Why did I have to pay $53 for two shots of Patron?! And why tf do I have to tip when you already added 20% gratuity to my bill? SITREP City Nights was a spectacular venue that brought together a cutting-edge group of musicians, dancers and a wonderful dark-wave crowd..........but this was back in the 1990s to the early 2000s. THE RUN-DOWN Then 2001 rolled around, the welcome mat rolled up and so began a steady-decline of what was once a superb music performances and guest DJ-spots. I witnessed the beauty of Faith & The Muse, VNV Nation, Diva Destruction, the Hellbillies, and I MET Trent Reznor and Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson) in these hollowed halls. But no more. THE EVENTS The wondrous DJs that once graced these halls - "X", DJ Blixa, DJ Nako, and others - created some of the most spectacular events to attend: "RODERICKS CHAMBER" (1994-2001) and "CAMERA OBSCURA" (2001-2003). I cry many tears that these days could be relived again. But they are not. GIRLFRIEND CENTRAL Of no small consequence to me is that fact that I MET four (4) of my most significant relationships in my life at this venue. [I even "did" it in the broom closet with one of those vixens during the "Faith & The Muse" concert - seriously, a LIFETIME memory I will always cherish, as the mop handle was digging into my back, but f*ck, did I care? F*ck no!] But I don't find myself going through these doors as much these days, and, ALAS!, probably why I am still single! ;^D TODAY Periodically I find myself coming back here now and again - mainly because of two sweet Russian girls I was dating - but the music is more Hip Hop and Rap now these days, the crowd is more rude and uncouth, and I can not find adequate reasons to praise this venue any more. I am 22 years old and I look a little bit young. When I tried to get in for a reserved party I walked up to the bouncer and as soon as the bouncer saw my REAL ID he slapped it out of my hand, picked it up and threw it into the street and told me to get lost. I'm not sure why he was picking on me, but I then showed him my passport ID card and he didn't accept it. I asked for the manager and thankfully he realized I was over 21 and finally let me in. Went on 5/26/22. Was my first time going to a nightclub, the line was around the corner as expected but a lot of people were constantly cutting the line, which they should have more crowd control or barriers but a majority just waited in line like decent people. There was only one security guy patting people down which made the line go even slower while two other security staff just watched the line. My friends and I got there at 11pm and didnt get in until 12:45am, so waiting an hour and fourty-five minutes (1:45 ). When the club closes at 2am. The music was like a 7/10 with a few good songs but mostly songs only a handfull of people knew or the dj would change the song after only playing it for a minute. It was also very hot and crowded but that's a good thing i guess. Overall it was a dope experience and a cool place to be, I definitely plan on going back soon read more

Not sure why the recent reviews are so bad but I came here a couple weekends ago with some friends and I had a great time. There's 2 different rooms so when one gets crowded you can easily walk over to the other one. Both rooms play new and older 2000s pop music and there's places to sit if need be. It was also super cheap to get in-only $5. If you're not a fan of crowded places then don't come here or any other club bc clubs get crowded fast, but I personally don't mind. 10/10 recommend if you're a fan of pop music. The short: avoid if you're 21+ Some friends wanted to go here, and of all the clubs I've been to and heard in passing, this did not register on my radar. And for good reason. My lyft dropped me off at the intersection because oh geez, the line is so long. Thankfully, I found my friends who were halfway there. Which actually turned out to be a very long wait (read: one hour) because a huge number of youngsters cut in who were initialy behind us and a group of Europeans who weren't even in line that cut in. I don't think these people have any understanding or respect for the people they cut. Pure and simple blatant cutting in line. Because, hey why not -- it's cool to do (not!). They're also sipping on drinks and throwing bottles (sometimes unfinished) into the gutters, where the club attendants have to sweep it up. The bouncers were not really enforcing either (I later learned they were short staffed that night). First is an ID check. Then another person to accept $20 cash only admission with a wristband (really! A stamp would do). And then right after is ticket collection. So many people to slow down the line. And then coat check is $3 cash only. These folks look bored out of their minds. We try the room on the left. Music is not danceable to. Ok, let's try room on the right. Music is tolerable. A few good songs and a lot of weird songs with no fluid transition between each. Plus, the DJ would cut songs and drop in all the wrong places. Additionally, people weren't dancing. What fun is that? Wasted people all over. People bumping into each other. Crazies who seem like they're letting loose for the very first time. Usually, I dance in the same spot on the dance floor, but somehow we kept being pushed around like a dinghy in a rough storm. Later in the night, creepers danced behind us, tried to gyrate me and my friends. I thought I was there for awhile. Nope, it was only 2 a.m. and we had only been there an hour. We noped out of there. Oh well. Memories of disappointment to reminisce and laugh on. Not sure if this is the only 18+ club out there. If you're 21+, there are better clubs available. I only give this review 3 stars because security let me and my friends cut the line and then let us cut again when we only brought card to pay the fee to enter. We literally ran home and he let us back up to the front to pay. Other than those two separate incidents this club is trash. I first went for my friends 18th birthday ( now being 21 ) I realized how @ss their music was compared to many other clubs in the area. They also pack the main venue to the point where your basically stepping on toes to get around. People have no manners what's so ever so don't bother buying a drink because it'll most likey get dropped out your hand, someone else's got knocked on to me. Once I went back the second time being 21, same things. Overcrowded, @ss music, disrespectful teens . Did I mention their dress code is weak. I guess my memory had repressed this disturbing experience because I forgot this place even existed until I saw a review on it on Yelp just now! I came here with some friends to celebrate a bday in 2007. First thing my boyfriend noticed as we got to the main dance floor was a couple having sex in the corner of the dance floor! Skanky much? Anyways, the crowd looked like they were 15-16 (although it 's18+) Guys were dressed in jerseys down to their knees (no exaggerations) & the majority of girls looked like cheap whores. Many of them were dancing on poles on the elevated platforms & in the cage... To make matters worse, this is an 18+ club so you can't even drink away your disappointment here... There are 2 dance areas: the main floor which plays the freak-em hip hop songs of the year and then the other small & random "near the bar" area that has some other music.. SO, here it is. If you do not have a 21+ ID and really want to go dancing, invite some friends over, put on a CD, & designate one of them to flicker your light on & off...you WILL have a better time doing just that. read more

I went to City Nights last Saturday and bought drinks. The bartender who served me was a Mexican male about 5'4 to 5'5 tall, long hair, maybe in his 40's. He was serving in the back left corner on the first floor when you walk into the club. I bought drinks from him twice and he added extra tips every time. I remember writing the total amount on the receipts and the amount charged to my credit card was more. It may not be a lot of money but this type of behavior is unacceptable. We made a few friends but we noticed there were groups of older men (30-40 yr olds) watching us. They followed us around and some tried to compliment us and touch us without permission. Being younger than 21 and not having many clubs or dance places to go to, having the ViP going through the quick line is the best thing that could've happened. Unfortunately that seems to be the best part about city nights. Honestly, I don't think it's really worth it to pay $20 let alone $5 bucks for admission admist the long line (for people who don't got VIP) . Because everything else just kinda goes ehh or iffy down here . This place honestly has a good but not great decor and there's a fuckton of people as well, if you're into that . Me personally, having too many people can differ if it's the right crowd or the wrong one at any given day or time. From my past experiences being there and now ,I can tell u that the crowd can give off bad vibes , or whatever vibes almost 100% of the time. What I can say that is the worst part of city nights, is that most of the guys I see there are not dancing at all, just standing there even when the good music is on. They're literally ain't gonna dance until they find a girl that happens to allow them to grind or dance with them, ( which doesn't work like 90% of the time, amazing way to spend your money idiots. ) Not to mention from my past experiences going with friends and having them get off some of my friends, the guys can be hella disrespectful and saying shit like cmon man. Honestly, the most important first question to ask yourself is what the hay do you expect from an 18+ club? That being said, especially for this place, it'll be quite necessary to let go of your expectations and just make the most out of this $20 entrance fee + $3 coat check + other additional expenses. I had a great time I went to this place last night mainly because I went with a large group of international friends. City Nights is most definitely an entertaining place to go with international friends especially if you want to see looks of shock and disgust at all the lovely booty grinding of the young teenage gangstas on the dance floor. The main problems with the club are the music and old creepers skulking about the edges of the dance floor. Please, could you play at least one fun non-rap song? And little girl, watch yourself and bring backup and pepper spray. But, I must admit, one star for the cool lightup floor. one month later.... I've changed my mind. Just don't.... I have been to some shitty bars and clubs but this takes the cake. If you're into 40 year old dudes (and really just every dude) reaching up your dress to grab your cooch this is your place (a little dramatic it was mostly bare ass grabbing and a close call but still..). I came to this bar because a friend wanted to go and I already knew it was going to be questionable because some of her friends were saying they were going to the club in slides...? It's pretty gross inside and even if you are just standing there doing nothing guys grab you and get ON you. I was dancing with my girl friends and just ended up trying to make sure I moved as least as possible in hopes I would be left alone lmao. It was a fun club to goto but security sucks they yell and get all up on the guests and they don't prevent shit from happening, last night I was at this club for Halloween with a couple of friends and when we left this girl came out crying saying there were guys preying on her. Keep in mind she was extremely drunk and security not in site not seeing any of this happening so that's why I say security needs to be better. We waited with her and made sure she got into the right Uber so she could go home safely but please everyone going to this club beware of this happening.
